I’ve been trying to implement need to have vs nice to have and it helps.

GAS isn't anything new. I had an awesome stereo setup in college and the smallest collection of music to play on my awesome stereo. I still love recording and editing on my TEAC 4-channel tape deck. I loved Nikon and Leica glass, but I always had some excuse (usually $$$ related) for a different system. Would have loved a 2 1/4 format Hasselblad back in the day. I've collected digital cameras from the early days, but got annoyed at how fast the SLR technology was advancing so I refused to "Buy Now" knowing in a year I'd wish I'd waited. I finally bought a Sony Alpha 500 rationalizing I didn't need video, I was a "purist" just wanting to take pictures. I wish I'd waited another year and got something to capture video with. As for the iPhone for video, well, you can tell by my other references I'm from an older generation. I spend a LOT of time talking on the phone. It is the most annoying thing to be recording a video on the phone and have a call come in - which seems to happen pretty often to me - so, as good as the phone camera is, the device is still a PHONE!! It is for talking on! And, as you point out, you can fill the phone memory pretty fast with high quality video, so, no, I don't want to rely on my phone for video. I'm in the market for a new camera, but, I just can't decide what my priorities are. Compact and convenient is pretty high on the list. Carrying a bag with two camera bodies, a couple of flashes and a set of 3 or 4 lenses got old a long time ago. Modern still photo setups like the pro's use for conferences, weddings and events are crazy big. I'm not a pro. I just want something basic, but I want to be able to mount bigger glass when I want it. Thanks for giving me a new acronym I can use to rationalize my dilema. Here's to having GAS.

Get the Sony a7CR! Seven cameras isn't bad at all! Also, you could always sell the Q2 if you need to justify the purchase (I just think Leicas and Apples are overrated)

well if staying in the sony ecosystem is important, the a7c series make sense. just like what Becki from Becki and Chris did when she chose to get one because it is a much more manageable size and making it feel less of a chore to carry = using it more. But but if you are open to other system, well the x100Vi would be a much greater everyday carry camera although it's APSC and the lens is not wide, it does have IBIS and 40MP though. (and presume if you could still get in the preorder and wait for it to actually arrive). Another great option is the nikon zf with it's 40mm compact lens, but then again 24mp and not a wide lens. As a fuji user myself, i still feel that the A7C series is rather clunky mainly due to the lenses being big and they felt imbalance to me but then again friend's around me don't really have a lighter compact lens for me to try. lugging around my X-T4 with my 33mm lens does feels clunky to me as well a time but i do not have the funds for X100Vi and my hands are too shaky to use X100v without IBIS. (i am spoilt by ibis)

I usually flip a coin. Regardless of how the coin lands it will make the decision for you. If it says no-and you want to do 2 out of 3-it means the answer is yes. On the other hand if your good with it-then you also have your answer. Or, you can have Judy make the decision.😂❤

Was just about to suggest pairing the new 16-25 with one of the A7cs. I have a A7Cii and its become my take everywhere camera. Does everything I need, small form factor and huge lens range including some equally compact lenses. Maybe because its capable not cool sometimes feel its under-appreciated, however it costs less than the likes of Leica, gets the job done and you can take it anywhere

GAS is 100% most of my life. I am a woodworker, photographer, sim racer, fisherperson, book collector and the list goes on. I am glad there are more people out there like me……:)

Love the ending!! GAS is common. I sense that this purchase is more of a "Want" than a "Need". I don't see how much smaller or lighter the A7CR will be. but hey go for it! :D I have 4 cameras and can't justify having more than 2! 😄

But did you see Fuji's latest stuff?! The XT50 is so fun! As the internet says, step on the GAS XD. But yeah, the GAS is real, I even want Peter's new filters because they looked so fun, even though I have no problem with my stacked filters.

I still use a Panasonic DMC-FZ70 16mp camera. It works great for most situations.

Questions that you or anyone else ask them selves before buying a Camera. Question number one how often will I use it? Number two do I really need it? Number three are all the features really worth it? And last and final question does it bring me joy? Good luck

If you’re struggling with whether or not you need it. Because price should not be the factor whether you decide to buy something or not. It should be are you really gonna get you sound a bit. Because That will determine whether you should buy or not. Having the latest and greatest isn’t always the best thing.

A7CR is terrific...but IMO you really gotta roll with the compact primes to get the most out of that form factor. The Sony 40mm f/2.5 on that body will change your life, lol.

I still fight with G.A.S. and I'm retired! I literally bought a little Smoke Ninja and I'm retired. You don't need the camera... FYI the DJI Pocket 3 is the best little camera I have! We went on a trip and I took iPhone, Pocket 3 and X4 nothing big and it was great. But if you go someplace like Biltmore Estate Break out the A74 and the 35-150 Tamron!!!

Yes, I am with you. Software Engineer, Photographer, Wanna be violin player, sometimes gamer, and now building a NAS server. I thought I would do CZcams/Podcast and have mics sitting in the boxes only used once. Definitely have GAS.

GAS’s best friend is rationalization… do yourself a favor and stick with the Q2(3) and iPhone combo. I have bought and sold many a guitar and camera. What I think I know is - any perceived bump in quality or capability disappears in about a month. Now here’s a tip for handling the iPhone - pick up a “GGrip” - best iPhone grip on the market - AND you get to buy something new! You can thank me later…

I've been using my iPhone more and more for vlogs, just because it's easier to carry around and most of all, people don't give me weird looks when I vlog with it. I do still use my full frame from time to time, but I don't rely on it to be my only way to capture footage for my travels.

You will not bring the Sony after some time because it is too bulky. Use the Leica Q3, it takes wonderful Video too.

i have GAS too lolz , every year when i look at the new APPLE ad (i stopped myselg from buying a new one since iphone 12) but as a gamer it is so hard to deal with it

I mean cameras are cool, but I came for the baby pics.

I have had gas for years and its caused my wallet a lot of problems...
