Great video. Decided for M2 Pro 14. It is a portable and the right size for most uses. If need a bigger screen, can always get external monitor as second screen which will be great!
Sara, im in awe how much your channel has grown.... I have been a subscriber for years.... well done đđŸâș
Thanks for confirming my love for my M1 Pro. †And, congrats on the 900k. đ
Thanks for this review. M1 Pro it is. Keep them coming. Gratz on your product launch.
16" M1 Pro for me and would never get smaller. Screen real estate is everything!!!
I totally agree on the MagSafe thing. I celebrated the return of it, but I found myself never using it. I use a USB-C Hub with PD USB-C port, and connect a USB-C charging cable to it. Then I got all the other USB-C ports free, but also the MagSafe unused
YAY, Love getting to see new videos from you
Thank you so much for this video! I canât decide if I should get the M1 Pro, m2 pro or the m2 air, Iâve been debating with myself for a year it feels. đ This was very informative.
so what did
you decide finally?
I just got the M2 Macbook Air. 16gb, 1tb. Best computer I've ever had. Davinci Resolve exported a 56 min 25gb video in 7 minutes, Madness!!!
I got the exact same spec. Itâs great and while I think I need the max chip for playing some steam games I am still happy with it.
@@davidlazarus67 thatâs probably right. But I have my gaming pc for gaming. But as far as editing, the m2 air kicks itâs butt lol
@@JeremyLeech With the price of PC graphics cards right now I can wait before getting a PC.
@@davidlazarus67 I feel that. Iâve had the same one for almost 5 years. I want to upgrade, but not right now lol.
@@JeremyLeech I do follow a number of PC channels and they all say avoid the latest graphics cards. All over priced and underperforming. They are destroying the gaming industry. I actually bought an Xbox with the money I saved from not getting a Max chip. I still have some money left over for a PS5 if necessary.
Got the M2 Max 1TB storage & 32GB RAM. Thing is a beast.
14 or 16 inch with these specs?
I have the 16 inch@@Renjber__RenjStudios
THE COLOR BIT OF EXPORTING AND IT LOOKING DIFFERENT!!! THANK YOU! lol I did not expect that piece of info and was not why I was watching...but it was everything I needed!! Lol problem solved!
Such a nice review, thanks
Congratulations on 900K subscribers
Hope you can make comparison between macbook pro 16 inch m2 pro chip vs mbp 16 inch m1 max chip.
Great video! Thank you
I just wanted to say that my experience with Battery has been pretty good on my 16" M1 Max machine. Usually sitting after quite a bit of video editing in FCPX, intermixed with a lot of Google Chrome, and Zoom meetings. I usually can get through a full 8 hours off the charger. Usually I end up plugging in at around 15% ish at the end of the day. Typically the big thing that ruins my battery life is letting those service just run in the background like Adobe CC, Google Drive, and etc.
yeah âbadâ battery runtime is only a 14â models issue
For a daily driver and not using an external display would you still recommend the 14" over the 16" which has the bigger screen, better speakers and battery? For traveling I have my iPad pro.
great video sara, as always. i have just buy my mbp 14 m1pro refurbished because the gap with the m2 pro doesn't deserve the price. very powerful machine.
I plan on buying my first MacBook. I want to get the 16 inch m2 pro 32GB ram and 4TB ssd MacBook pro. Is it a good configuration for university work and video editing?
Sara, please let me know what backbag you are using (the one you pack the M214 in? looks very cool?????
Could you please share the configuration of your 14 inch M2 MacBook Pro? You said itâs a M2 Pro but at 2:31 it shows M2 Max.
I still got 2019 16in MacBook Pro but Iâm def investing in a 38core m2 max later this year
I have a 15,6â Windows laptop now and I couldnât downgrade my screen size from that. I also like to use it as a 2nd screen and imagine Iâd do that way more with the superior MacBook display.
I just got a M1 MacBook Pro 14" & for the price & its awesome performance I'm very happy indeed
I do full-time, professional photo editing on my machine but no video editing. Is the 2023 M2 Pro w/16GB sufficient? I also see a 16" M1 Pro Max in the Apple refurb store I'm thinking about, but that model is already 2 years old.
That EMPHASYS on the differences in MPro/Max Vs MVainilla/Air is important and is the 1st time that I see someone talk about it on YT đ€
I'm coming from the windows ecosystem. I'd like to hear your honest opinion do I gain any benefits if I get MBP pro 1 max over MBP Pro 1? I mostly use laptop for web browser based graphic / web design.
Picked up a base model 14 MacBook Air M1 Pro for 1100 in basically new condition! I added AppleCare on it and it its the best laptop I have ever owned! Fast charges to 50 percent in 30 mins with USB C so battery life is great for my workflow. Its a tank and helping me take off in my new career :). Skip the M2 upgrade and find an M1 Pro!
Itâs so hard to find tho, in Europe at least itâs almost impossible (except refurbished, but for business Iâd rather choose new).
Thanks for helping me get over my fear that I bought the wrong machine getting the m2 MacBook Air. Itâs been more than capable for the remote work I do and I especially need the battery it has
Just ordered the 14 M1 Pro đ
Sara, for the M2 MBA and the niche mentioned (occasional creative work + browsing) which core and ram option would you recommend for that? 17:50
I think it's only worth the upgrade if you're going from Intel to Apple Silicon. It seems at the beginning of the video to me not that noticeable.
thxxx for thissss
I got the 2023 m2 with 512gb w/16 gb ram whatâs the best drive to use for editing ?
Good vlog!
Hi sara Dietschy and john hill, you're appreciated thank you
This kind of product review is the only one of value. Everyone "knows" to get the latest and the greatest, so there is really quite little value in making those kinds of reviews. These kinds of test results are surprising and counterintuitive, hence very good (and more consumer-friendly).
I have the M1 Pro. Love it. Best computer Iâve ever owned
I've always been Windows PC I finely got a Mac Book Pro 13' M2 chip late last year
Sara deserves the Million Subs!
Probably the updates of the last few months have improved and optimized the performance of the m2 Pro chip?
Ok, I don't use Premier for video editing but only Final cut Pro and doing an export test about 1 hour and 36 minutes of 4k video, with masks and effects applied, it took 40 min with 14 m1 pro (8-core) and 26 min with 14 m2 pro (10-core, 16gb ram, 512gb ssd).
I've always been the bigger screen the better. Moreso with the old Inel Macs, faster and better cooling. I have an iPAd pro with keyboard for portability. Run mostly PC but do have a m2 Studio on a 48in machine for most work. And a 17in laptop for work work.
As a DJ, the answer is YES for MagSafe. Especially when we work with gear that isnât USB-C and when one depends on our laptops to perform, the last thing we want to worry about is battery loss. Also, Iâm so with you on the 14-inch size. A number of CZcams content creators poo-pooed about the smaller size, only to regret it later and, in some cases, switched from the larger size. I have the M1 Max and yeah, not a fan of the battery loss in it, but otherwise to unplug it from my desktop dock from a single USB-C cable and slip it into my backpack on my way out seamlessly is so very satisfying. And yes, spending the extra money to upgrade to 4TB, after putting up with years of HD tethering with music, sample libraries and video, is hella convenient and priceless IMO. Hands down, almost a year later, the best computer I ever owned. Thanks again for another great video.
Is the m2 good for online college work??
I have 2019 16 inch and it works like a charm
Hi Sara, I'm Topher Picazo from the Philippines, thank you for review
I moved from an M1 Air 8/7/16ram 512ssd to the M2 pro 12/19/16 32 gb ram 1T ssd. This is a huge upgrade!
I'm honestly waiting for them to put 120hz ips or xdr displays on macbook air screens and bump the refresh rate of macbook pro to 165hz
14â is literally the MacBook I have been dreaming of since I became a developer. Powerful without compromise for size, best screen ever, ports! Itâs perfect.
Hey, Sara! Would you still recommend the M2 Pro 14" for when editing 4k videos in Premiere? đ Thanks!
The 14â has massive thermal throttling issues. This is why Sarah didnât see a performance difference between the machines. Highly recommend 16â as they do not throttle nearly as much so you will actually be able to use the performance you paid for.
@@ryancooper3629 thermal throttling is a problem of the Air, never experienced thermal throttling. Sara doesn't see difference, others see difference. The question is easy: M1 Pro has a better value, M2 pro is a better machine (just upgrade the ssd). Period.
What kind of backpack do you have?
So happy you put in the title who this clip is for. Not for normals!!! It is for content creators.
Normals who need a laptop can get by for the five or more years they use them with the Apple M1 MacBook Air. iGPU FLOPS Apple M1 2.6 TFLOPS. So how much power do you need for a normal?
In the content creator world always get the best tools you can to work on your productions.
They should add data to MagSafe. That seems like what they will do with the phones anyway. đ
Do you use 14 or 16 inch macbook?
I picked up the M1 Pro 16gb ram and 1TB open box for $1700 a week before the m2âs weâre announced.
congrats on 900k. cant wait for 1 Mil.
I've been a Windows user all my life. Now I'm in a bit of a dilemma deciding between sticking with a Windows laptop or making a complete change to a 14" M1 Pro Macbook Pro. I'm sure it'll be a bit of a learning curve to switch but the curve shouldn't be too steep. I was considering the 16" MacBook Pro (since I love laptops with big screens) but the weight might be a bit much and I mainly do writing which means I won't be maximizing the full power of it anyways. I was also considering the newest MacBook Airs but the displays are too small for my liking (despite the rumors that a 15" Airs could be announced sometime this spring or June)
I don't want to rush the decision considering the hefty price tag. Maybe I should wait for the next MacBook Airs to be released considering it's lightness and overall functionality ? The 14" MacBook Pro is an excellent middle ground in portability and price and from what I'm taking from this video, it's a very powerful laptop.
My decision to possibly switch to Apple seems more of a reality by the day after watching this video. But still, I got a tough choice to make
if it were me and you don't need it immediately i'd wait for the new 15' macbook air. Personally im leaning towards the 16' macbook pro M2 but i need it for coding/data science not simply writing. The air will be so much nicer for carrying around and using in cafes/airports etc. But not enough horsepower for what i need i think.
I have a Predator laptop and the newest Mac Air. No regrets. I think it's great to have one window and 1 apple laptop.
Just bought MacBookPro 16' M1 Max Ref , i switched from Windows laptop!
Great video
woo! That Apple refurbished store 'bout to be lookin' reeeeaal nice!
I have the M1 Air, and would love a nice little upgrade if the price is right.
When the M1 Pro 1TB is as low as M2 Air Base :O
You can use m2 max with low power mode)
Hi Sara. Help. So so I settled on the 16inch (I know đą). But listen Im trying to decide between an Apple refurbished mbp 16 â.max chip âŠ.64ram 4tb for basically an even 4k Vs brand new m2 same specs except 2tb and after tax comes to 4.3k is having the latest worth losing 2tb workflow. Iâm a CZcams video editior / podcast producer (3shows) plus a few 5 /10 mins skits /short film/music videos sooooooo please đ need a lil push towards one of âem. Iâm so wishy washy. It has to last 5years at the least Iâm coming from. 2018 mpb 15 touchbar intel 32ram 1tb Ssd n things are getting a lil rough (yes I use clean my Mack) despite getting rid of cruft heâs getting a lil slow n rough. Oh I use safari n FCP and logic and Pixelmator ( Mac photoshop ) a lot
What year?
I LOVE my 14 inch M1 MBP, it's the best. Nice to know you are a fan of it as well. I've been using the Anker charger for it, it's so small and awesome.
I ended up going with an MBP 16" M1 Max (4tb ssd, 64 gb ram) because over two years and multiple windows laptops looked at...it ticked every single box for me with no compromises. 20+ hour battery life? check. Excellent build quality and (finally) keyboard? Check. Ridiculously gorgeous screen? check. Excellent camera? check. Ease of setup? check. So I'm now going all in, with the only thing missing being the mac studio and display to replace my PC.
In my opinion, 14â MBP plus a monitor is the best combo. Better portability & dual screen when you are stationary. The Mac screen is good for viewing the edit & on the go, but you just canât compete with an additional screen when you need it.
16â is heavy and bulky, especially when you are in Europe where you need to take trains/buses instead of driving.
I might go with a Max chip in the future when M4 MBP is out, but my work is more cpu dependent, so Iâm already very happy with my M1 Pro chip. (Iâm not sure if the Max chip is any more powerful cpu wise. If someone knew, please correct me.)
M2 Max chip is only more powerful on the 16â inch MacBook Pro đ»
@@peppyp7323 Will you actually benefit from the sustained performance of the 16" due to the larger thermal envelope? Many think they will, but in reality they'd be just fine with the 14" or even the fanless MBA. The bar is really high now with Apple Silicon.
The 16â comes with a couple of bonuses: the display is larger, you will get more of that beautiful mini led display, the bezels look slimmer due to the ratios, the notch looks smaller for the same reason. The 16â gets a larger trackpad which is more convenient to use and the speakers are better giving richer sound. As far as battery life the 16â gets three hours more in terms of web browsing, and also gets a more powerful 140 watt power supply.
If you donât mind relatively small screens, an iPad Pro 12.9 makes a perfect second monitor on the go with Sidecar
@@peppyp7323itâs equally as powerful on either, you will just reach throttling temperature in sustained workloads more easily on a smaller machine. Thatâs just physics. But most of us donât do workloads that max the CPU for 30 mins at a time unless youâre exporting video or image renders, and then most people wonât be standing next to the laptop waiting either.
I love your videos...nuff said
Debating over 14" M2pro or M2 Max. Mainly going to be doing music production, video/photo editing with Adobe. Is a Max necessary? or should I not bother?

im debating on a 16inc macbook pro m2 pro or m2 max. final cut is the most intensive program i would be using. which is most ideal? the m2 max is like 1000 dollars more
Either will serve you wonderfully, the more expensive max will be more future proof and will handle mega loads like 8k editing better but for standard editing work right now either one will do an amazing job.
Need to get a better video editor. Vegas sucks with video preview. Lags so much I can barely edit. My sepcs are quite high too but don't want to learn a whole new editor though.
If you could decide between m1 pro for 1400⏠and a m2 pro for 1600âŹ, which one would you choose? It is purposed for 4k editing and matlab simulation
I don't know what your choice was, but I was faced with a similar choice (for video editing use) and I bought a base 14 macbook pro with the m2 pro chip (16 GB ram, 512GB ssd). And I do not regret this choice. It's faster, cooler and (as demonstrated by Max Tech), in low power mode has exactly the same performance as the base 14 with the m1 pro at full power. Truly beast
Anyone got any suggestion on which macbook 14 m2pro (10core or 12 core CPU) configuration to get? I've heard issues on throttling when getting the m2pro 12core CPU/19-GPU in the 14". Is that true? I can't chose between base m2 pro chip or unbinned m2 pro for the 14 inch (both with 32 go of ram and 1to ssd).... I guess ill order the cheapest one and if it isnt powerful enough I'll get the other one. Anyway great video, thanks for sharing!

Upgrading the Macbook Air to the spec I want it at, it isn't so much of a jump to go to the Pro so I'm just not sure where I should stand
just because of you im ordering an m1 pro 14inch
Nice. I think for regular users, getting the one with less storage makes sense as Apple storage is ridiculously expense.
I think you convinced me to get the Pro instead of Max I definitely not that sophisticated of an editor as you my needs are simpler

sara I don't watch your videos I just watch you all the time. Why are you so cute?đ„ș
Listening to these reviews is so frustrating, because every reviewer seems to have a completely different opinion on how good the 14 M2 Pro is. Who should I trust? You, MKBHD, one of the other dozen tech reviewers I watched? I'm about to make a documentary and I was thinking of buying the M2 Pro with 32gb and a TB of space. For the price I'm paying, it should be top notch. But then you're saying the M1 Pro renders faster? And that's my primary concern. I'm sure this will blaze through my photography workload. And I'm not blaming any of the reviewers. I'm sure you're just giving your honest experience. It's just really frustrating.
magsafe was, hands-down, apple's best idea ever. i don't have a macbook but EVERYTHING i own that can charge by usb, has a magnetic usb plug in it now.
The only thing is, the 14 obviously cannot compete with the 16âs screen real estate, for those of us who code and use multiple VMs together at the same time on the same screen đ
Sure if you code and dont use external monitor 16 inch is the only right choice.
I didn't even know you could code without an external display - I couldn't imagine doing it all one one screen even 16inch, Ultrawide monitors are fine though.@@ShredzZ
