16in is still my preference. If I needed more portability I have my iPad for that

I agree with you, but I have to stress the words you said towards the end: "... if you buy brand new". I you can't afford the M3 Pro MBP, don't go for the regular M3 MBP, but get a refurbished or used M1 Pro/M2 Pro MBP. Or even do this by default, you save real money and help the environment. You get all the benefits of the M3 Pro MBP, just a little less crazy performance, but it's still crazy.
If you really do a lot of 3D rendering, the M3 Pro might make sense, or the M1 Max/M2 Max, as they only get even more graphics power compared to the M1 Pro/M2 Pro (different for the M3 lineup where the M3 Max gets quite a bit more CPU power as well).
I got a 14" M3 Max MBP (base model) from my employer, coming from a 16" i9 MBP. And it's overkill! But if you push it (I do), the fans will speed up. Now I always run it in low power mode, it's dead quiet now and still crazy fast! But I wouldn't recommend it to most people over an M3 Pro, it's so much more expensive. Only go for it if you know that you're really pushing the CPU and/or GPU extra hard on a regular basis in a way that it pays off, and that's not easy to do.

I had a 16” M1 Max. Great machine. Didn’t like the size. Traded it for the 14” M3 Pro MBP 12/18/18 1 TB (the $2500 variant). Space Black of course. Love it and completely agree with Greg’s astute and insightful analysis.
I just tried the 14-inch size on a display laptop, I found it a little small, you got used to it, I have the M1 Max too. and I want to trade for one of 14 m3 pro space black
@@prodsk8miles It's usually hooked up to a couple monitors at home and when I'm out and about the screen size for what I'm using it for is just fine. If it were a stand alone and I was mostly content creating (video/photo editing) and I wasn't traveling with it a lot I would prefer the 16". For me though the 14" has really been a better choice and I'm ok with the screen size. Hope this helps. Never an easy decision when these are a major investment.

Well, I went ahead and purchased the $1999.00 M3 Pro MBP, but spec’d it up with 1Tb SSD for $200 more. We have two user log on so, more photos, more files.
M1 Pro max is more than enough for 99% of us.
Until apple stops giving the m1 updates. Even though it’s more than a capable computer.
M1 pro max doesn’t exist it’s either M1 Pro or M1 Max 🤦🏾♂️

I recently got the m3pro Pro after 6 months with a 512/8gb m2 air.. needed that extra ram! Found a killer deal on the Pro after xmas.. $1600.. and couldn't pass it up! The ram is perfect for me and the processor is admittedly overkill, but it makes it feel like a machine that I can keep for years to come. Would have kept the air if I'd gone for 16gb ram but I didn't.. Long story as far as pricing goes when I bought it. Love the M3pro Pro though! would definitely recommend and honestly I probably would havew bought one even if I hadn't found the deal that I did.

Why at Best Buy is the 13 inch m2 MacBook air with 512 gb $1,524 and the 14inch m3 MacBook pro with 512gb $1,579.
I wanted the air because it’s smaller and thinner, but for about $60 more dollars, I could just get the pro.

I'm probably going to go for the refurbished M2 Pro MacBook Pro 14 Base. It seems to be a way better deal with a much more price/performance ratio.
I just ordered that exact model, and it was defective. Having to return for a refund and start over. I did tons of research, and although I was nervous to buy refurbished, I saw so many positive reviews, that I bit the bullet and did it. Now afraid to go refurbished.

looking for a mac that can be used for editing with iMovie...would be using video clip contant stored on an external HD. Would also use Laptop to dump videos from GoPro and Digital cam to external. What would be the best low end ($$) Mac laptop that would work for me? I do not need to store much on the laptop itself. I use many external drives for storage. thanks
The beats everything negative to the 11-core M3 Pro is the reduction in performance cores make it slower than an 8-core M1 Pro in real terms for running DAW software or anything else where the number of efficiency cores mean nothing. They’ve deliberately removed performance cores from the Pro chips to make the Max versions more appealing.
When MaxTech runs their tests on the MacBook Pros, they run them in High Power mode, which will have the fans revving up more than usual. Apple’s text next to High Power mode says, “This may result in louder fan noise.” What happens if you use Automatic mode? They never tested their MBP’s that way, so there’s no way to know from their results.
Max texh recently did a video running the m3 max on low power mode. The fans were quiet .. .battery life improved, and it was still faster than m2 max.
@@KC-lg8qf Yes, I saw that video and that’s a great thing. The point of this was that MaxTech was suggesting that a downside of the MBP is that the fans run louder. Most people will run their computer on automatic, not low power mode nor high powered mode. Do the fans run louder than the previous versions on automatic? Seeing that Apple warns of higher fan noise if run on high performance mode, is fan noise really a downside under most circumstances?

Its simple ..16 is better for productivity. 14 for portability.
I was going to get the 14” M3 Pro on sale for $1,799 18/512 but I decided to go with the 15” M2 16/512 spec on sale for $1,399.
Only reason I wanted the 14” was for the fans just in case I needed it while programming. But the bigger 15” is great for programming.
the 14" MacBook pro has more pixels and a higher pixel density than the air. Are you still satisfied with the 15"?
@@XxXStoneFingerXxX yup, true story I did try the 14” for 5 days. 14” battery life did last longer than the 15” but the 15” screen made studying and working in Xcode a lot better.
Since I don’t connect the MacBook to a monitor, the 15” will always be my preference. I’ll sacrifice an hour of battery, mini-LED and fans for a bigger screen.

My M1 Pro MacBook Pro from a couple of years ago is still more than enough for me.
Same here, its already tooo fast. Why replacing, when it fixes 90% of your needs.
And I'm sure this will be the case for many years to come. I'd recommend most people to get a refurbished M1 Pro/M2 Pro now. M1/M2 Air for casual users.

Debating between the base 14” $2000 and the 16” $2500 models. I have to wear reading glasses so I’m thinking the 16” might be a better option. Plus, wouldn’t the 16” be better for gaming just because of the size of the screen?
I work in IT and help many people at work with laptops. 16" is definitely better than 14, lots of extra real estate and easier on your eyes. Better for gaming too.
Make sure to get at least 16gb of ram, and 32gb is even better if you can manage it.
The M3 pro comes with 18 with an option of 36. The problem with Best Buy is the ssd is set at 512. Don’t really want the Max chip and since I have a Best Buy gift card that leaves Apple Store out of the loop.
@@DerekDavis213 I feel that the text is too small on the mbp 16. (I need to zoom a lot) I feel that the default resolution is better on the mbp 14 making the text clearer and sharper.
@@oscarsuarez4843 MBP 14 and 16 both have screens with 254 pixels/inch. The 16 just gives you more screen real estate. The text should look identical on both.

I have m3max . Stick with the old m2 m1s if you don't do 3d and heavy GPU work. Btw video encoding is the same cuz they all have the same decoders on the maxachines so almost zero benefits. See a lot of m2max on sale . Probably that would be the best deal
"Most people" don't need a Macbook Pro. an Air is ok making the 14 inch a niche option. If you need power you also need screens.
The Air is the best model for most people unless you're planning to do more demanding tasks such as 4K video editing or 3D modelling you don't need the Pros. The is basically the stranded model

I am a normal how much power do I need to watch CZcams clips, surf the net, IM/Text, eMail, and and simple document work? I am good to go with my Apple M1 MacBook Air for five, or more years. Used my 2014 Apple 5-K 27-inch iMac for over seven years.

M3 pro 14 inch base model is his choice.
I bought a Mac Studio with the M2 chip. £2000. 3 apps costing over £6000 won't work on it because of Tsunami. So I take it to the Apple shop and ask them to put on Ventura. Can't be done, said Apple. You cannot downgrade to a macOS version earlier than the one that came preinstalled with your Mac. There's something in the M2 chip that doesn't permit it. And Apple doesn't provide printer drivers for it and I cannot find any printer driver at all from any major manufacturers for it. Air Print doesn't work and I've tried three printers. Angry doesn't cover it.
Promising a new OS a year has backfired big time and Apple couldn’t care less. The entire release of both Big Sur and Sonoma have been like a public beta program nobody buying a new system with either OS the minimum for that model had any choice in and mindless fanboys just make excuses or flat out deny it’s even an issue. Since Catalina, only Monterey and Ventura have been any good.

So at 9:59 your argument against 14" M3 MAX is that it's louder under load? In other words You said don't get that faster model, because even if it does more work, it heats more than the slower M3 PRO. Duh
If you are comparing them, maybe consider the fact they're working at different loads? Generally using them should barely spin their fans. And if you're editing an 8K video in a cafe, then I'm sorry it's not a regular use case, maybe don't.
Also cite your sources better, a "Source: Max Tech" is like citing Wikipedia.

I have one. Got it from my employer, it would be too expensive for me to buy. If you give it loads of work to do, it will get loud. It's nice to have the power if it's needed, but now I prefer to run it in low power mode all the time. From what I heard, this is still quite a bit faster than the best M3 Pro, but it stays dead quiet now. I just don't know if it's 1000 bucks faster 😉

I am still personally using the 16” laptop and enjoying it! However this is a video going over the best laptop for most users which I believe is the 14” M3 Pro variant due to many factors.
No one should buy mac this year.
