At 3:35 I should have said 10% smaller, 20% lighter
NOT the other way around got it flipped sorry :) IT'S SMOLLER OKAY.
Thanks for the correction @ben_chao
Sara, check out Sigma 16-28mm f2.8. Small, lightweight, fantastic lens. If you do, let us know about it in a vid! Sigma also makes a lightweight 28-70 f2.8 lens, worth check it out.
Oh well, let it be, you talked about it near the end 😅
i can easily see the wb shift in your video 😆
So do you introduce the 3rd party in the space - the 2nd Shooter? Is that Mark?
Watching you, so often is like watching (to quote Alanis Morrissette) "another version of me" except that whilst we are both wives, I also have one.
Also CZcams business question what is the percentage do you get from Printful on every sale or perhaps what is their percentage if they do fulfillment or if you do fullfiment
BTW did you know that Zeiss also makes the lenses that are used in all the new Extreme UltraViole(n)t Chip manufacturing machines that for example TSMC use to make the main chips in your IPhone.
The modern world could not exist without Zeiss
One thing I found interesting with the Sony vs Canon thing is that some people don't really know the difference they just want to complain about it.
I got hired to film social media content for a few creators that use Canon only and I use Sony only, so there was about 2 month stretch where all their content was shot on Sony and the comments people left were "See this is why Canon is the best, content is looking great" and "Got to love those Canon Colors", etc.
I love watching all the comparison videos CZcamsrs do. Watched one the other day - FX6 vs BMPCC 6K Pro - managed to guess the correct cameras, but dang... The CZcamsr had used an awful BMPCC 6K LUT with green colour cast. Goes to show it doesn't really matter about gear, it is always 'how you use it' that counts really, and end consumers wouldn't really know the difference between an iPhone or and Arri... Sadly
What I don't get is the arguing over brands , All and I mean all cameras these days are great , loyalty is such a "mine is bigger than yours " mentality I have Nikon , Sony and Canon and each are equal now
I've used Nikon and Fuji , never used Canon, and now Sony FF, in my experience, you can take great pics with either one, I changed from Nikon to Fuji because of DSLR weight and , at the time, they were lagging in the mirrorless offering, got tired of Fuji JPEG oversaturated colors (RAW processing in LR is a known issue) and settled on Sony, and never even considered Canon because of their reluctance to let other third party lens vendors to let them in , Happy with Sony.....I also heard that canon glass is more expensive than Sony's ... I've seen some great photos from pros using canon .......and Nikon and Sony.....any other tribal arguments is just silly
Can listen to you talk AND SHOW camera stuff all day. Show and tell is so much better than people who just tell and don't show. Great video as always!!
Also while I've never shot Sony, I regularly use regular image straight out of the camera and people love the look. And I only shoot with a cheap nifty 50
Would kill for your color grading process tutorial. Love it.
Great job on the video Sara! Thanks for making it. The lighting in this one is positively dancing in your hair when you're surrounded by the vicious greenery. What a great shot. Well done.
Really love the outdoor parts of the video!
I just love the look of your videos man. Perfect aesthetic
Thanks for the video, Sara. Enjoy the trip!
loved the camera rant, please more content like that
I love nerdy lens videos, thanks Sara!
Was just wondering when the next peachy video was when I refresh to see this gold. Thank you!
Thank you so much sister for sharing your ideas in this video.
I recently got the Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L, it is my current favourite lens to shoot with!
I've been considering this one for my FX3. I only have a 24-70 GM II which I use for everything, so I guess do I really need that extra wide angle 😅 at events like CES I have to step back a bit far from things to get shots even at 24mm, so the answer might be yes!
here are none reasons to switch to mark 2 for videographers
Yeah or consider the 12 to 24 that fits right in with the 24 to 70 and then you're covered from 12 to 70
You Rocked this! Thanks so much ❤️
Love the bags!
You and Justine are my favorite CZcamsrs for these kinds of content.
Excellent lens review thanks Sara! I've been Canon since 2012, moving to Sony this year (currently just FX6 and 24-70 G Master). What you said about the novelty of certain wide angle focal lengths wearing off combined with the size/weight challenges are spot on. A contributing factor to shift from Canon was the outlook that my new RF mount lenses may be impractically HEAVY. The RF 24-105 on my Canon R6 is already making me wonder if I should pack an FX30 for next trip. I'm leaning towards the basic 3 standards as G Master lenses (16-35, 24-70, 70-200). Thanks again!
The Sony 14mm is such a cool lens, but a little niche due to how wide it is. I just picked up the Viltrox 16mm 1.8 and I love it!! I've only used it for photo so far, but would definitely recommend!!
Great run down👌 Thank you ! 😎
Had to hear the Peachy take on this lens! the weight reduction looks soooo nice!
Oh thanks I’ve really been thinking about doing some Murch so thank you for this also don’t stay gone so long I miss your videos they are so positive
Printful is the best!!! Sign up using that link in my description 😊
Thanks for watching!
Great video. Thx for tthe honest opinions on the differences of the Sony 16-35 lenses, I have the Zeiss 16-35, very happy, but always want that more open aperture.
The 14GM is beyond amazing!!!!!
I love this camera-nerd style of video! Why not make a second channel for the really 'deep-dive' gear talk videos and get the best of both worlds? I think you would be surprised at the number of people who would be interested in that!
After years and years of 'enthusiast phone photography' 😅 and flip-flopping on whether to get a 'proper' camera setup, I decided on Sony. I got a budget oriented setup of a 2nd hand a6100 and a new Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 and OH MY GOD I love this combo already. I can honestly say it is more camera than I will be needing for a long long time but I love seeing the different looks you get from different lenses.
I don't see myself getting a G-Master lens any time soon but I am definitely looking at a wider lens for my next one - potentially the Sigma 16mm prime (f/1.8 I think).
I have the 16-35f4 PZ and just love the size of this thing. Do you find the GMii substantially heavier or is it worth the trade off for the 2.8? I also have the Tamron 20-40 2.8 which has been great as well. Really debating selling both for the GM or just keeping what I have and be happy 😃
Loved the video❤
I love Sony. Didn't think I would since I had Canon cameras up until then. But since I bought the a7ii in 2018 I have been really pleased with the colors
Upgraded to the a7siii last year and now I really can appreciate the colors and flexibility of the camera. Would love a shorter lens, but for now I have a 24-105 G f4 and a 200-600 G telephoto for getting birds. I also have a 35mm Slr magic t1.3 that I rarely use anymore because it's manual focus. One day I'll sell it to put it towards a 14 or 16mm prime for Astro or just some fancy b-roll.
Great a trip to meet the iPhone 15 pro ultra max?
Good video as always (although I haven't finished it yet)
Correction at 3:35, the 16-35 GM II is 10% smaller and 20% lighter, not 20% smaller and 10% lighter (when compared to its predecessor)
Love the DR3 helmet in the background 😍
Really appreciate the break down .
I have the original 16-35 gm and it almost lives on my camera. Just wondering if I should plan to upgrade to the new one to make it easier to use on a gimbal and also the close focusing might be better for food shots at restaurants. However it's a expensive upgrade and the original is already very good.
@matt Nice camera work my man!
Jeez, I wish a skate company had someone like you shoot some of the videos. You really nail a quality level that I'm not used to seeing in skate videos.
Great video, looks like a very good lens !
18:56 This is one reason I'm considering switching to Sony or maybe just adding Sony, easier to bring around and carry around vlogging than Canon full frame.
This is Sara in her true geek mode and we’re here for it 😂 I have a Canon and lenses currently but I will be swapping to Sony in my next upgrade. I also love a good wide lens, as you say it’s so helpful for VLOGs. Anyways great video as always! 👌
Love your camcorder content
@@NARFALICIOUS thank you 😊
GLORIOUS!!!
Canon M6 mark II + Viltrox speed booster + Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM (F2.8 with speed booster). It's tiny, a hair shy of full frame and just fun. Plus portable external battery plugged in via dummy battery adapter means one battery that lasts all day.
My travel kit has the original 16-35mm GM and primes at going up to 135mm. I can't see upgrading since I don't have an issue size, weight or minimum focus distance. Looking forward to Sara's take on the new A7c2 and A7cR.
Yes, I want one and pretty sure I will eventually buy this new GM mkii. But I'm in no hurry so will wait for a half decent deal or maybe a Black Fri event.
I had owned the Sony GM 16-35 f2.8 mk 1, but found it quite heavy, bulky and whilst OK it didn't really excel much beyond circa 24-28mm when compared with other lenses I tested. I kind of anticipated this release, so sold my mk 1 about 3 months ago (taking a reasonable loss). I then bought a neat, relatively compact, Sony 16-35mm f4 PZ - pretty good. I do like the uber compact PZ for video on my FX3, but less of a fan about f4 - especially for stills use. That's why I'm thinking of also buying this new version as well as keeping my PZ albeit that sounds profligate and a bit crazy! I like to shoot primes, when I can, for something specific (not travel, as it's too much heft and hassle). I currently own and plan to keep my GMs 14, 24 and 35mm primes and a G 20mm.
I too have had a history of buying and trying wide zooms. Originally starting with a more affordable Zeiss 16-35 f4 bought when I first started using Sony, late 2018. I then compared to the excellent Tamron 17-28 f2.8 - super value and typically sharper than the Zeiss, but flawed as it didn't go beyond 28mm. At that time I didn't yet own a 24-70 f2.8 GM mk ii. Both wide zooms got sold when I compared them to a GM 16-35mm f2.8 mk 1. However if not for being limited at 28mm then, the Tamron might have been a keeper. It was an excellent lens optically, albeit it felt a little 'plastic' and lacked Sony's GM build quality.
ahhhh I wish there was a brand-a-thon for the updated brand :( love those
I started with a used Canon 5D Mark II. Then I upgraded to a used Canon 5D Mark III. Then I bought a used Canon Rebel T7. Today I use a new Canon R100. I have an EF 100mm macro lens and an EF 24-105mm zoom lens. I use an adapter to mount my EF lens to my R100, since the R100 is RF mount. I plan on saving to get the Canon RF-S 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM Lens for my R100 camera.
Got the A7Cii & A7CR ahead of release - nice
have you not tried the ultimate in wide lenses of the sony 12-24? I prefer the 2.8 such a great lens esp for wide
Linear focus means to set the bounds of point A and B and then pull focus to these two places
This is my dream lens. And I will get it, sooner or later. :)
The g12-24 is goated for wide angle wide lenses
i live in co and have a lot of photos from breckinridge in the spots you have been to.
I love this video, and I hav not seen video from you before. So I hit the subscribe button and look forward to the next video. Thanks🙏
glad you found the one...
Sara if I was to buy a a7siii what two lens would you recommend? mainly using for photos.
Great comparison video. I didn't bother waiting for the new GM ii since I couldn't justify the price (it costs $3,100 here in Canada before taxes) so just grabbed the 16-35 PZ recently to complement the 24-105mm that I have had since 2019. Here's hoping that Sony is working on a second version of that 100-400 GM because I would save up to get it (got a chance to use the 100-400 from Sigma for a week and I just didn't like it, so won't get it even though it's less expensive).
Hey Sara,
As always VERY nice video! 🤩🤩⭐
I too am Sony shooter I recently purchased the 70-200 GM (II) which I think is great. I do have the 135 GM 1.8 which honestly I VERY like since the dept of field is lovely.
I VERY much liked you going through all the wide lenses as you did, that was great, thank you!.
I was considering these 2 lenses:
1. 14 GM 1.8
2. 12 - 24 GM (just not all in love with price or size)
The 14 because of your video is probably out from my selection.
I do have the 20 G 1.8 which i like but I do not love. The 24 GM 1.4 I like - first world issues to be clear.
Maybe I just might grab the 🔴16-35 GM (II) and 🔴24-70 (II) and call it a day until the🔴Sony 300mm f/2.8 GM (they were testing it at the World Athletics Championship in Budapest, Hungary in August) maybe announced in May 2024.
I do prefer Fuji color science though but not switching systems for many reasons.
Thanks For you REVIEW!!
What size Protactic bag is that and would you recommend it or alternatives?
I clicked this SO quickly. Sara Peachy video usually gets but good choice of title!
Sigma 14-24 IMO is a bit sharper and cheaper so went with it. I know theres no front filter thread but I have a matte box so hey!
I've always had Nikon, but I'd love to test this, just need a Sony DSLR. Thanks for your videos, as always ❤
nice skating!
Now I just need to find $2300… 😬
Excellent video, Sara! Love Breckenridge, I need to get there in the summer sometime. We’ve only been in the winter.
*I'll eventually get a G Master Lens for my FX30 but I just got my first cinema Lens*
Tough decision for me, I have the excellent 12-24 2.8 GM, but the 16-35 GM2 with its smaller size and compatibility with circular filters is compelling. If it’s as good as the 24-70 2.8 GM II, I might have to buy it.
Thanks.
Currently owning the 14 1.8 GM. Its great but you cant always zoom with your feet. So the 16 - 35 2.8 mk2 is on my list. A perfect lens for me :)
Dream lens for sure.... one day!
Hej Sara! what mic did you use for this video? thank you
I got A7mk1 with FE24-70 mk1 len but I want upgrade my body to A7iv or A7iii or A7riii or A7cii and should I get FE200-600 or FE70-200F2.8 + 2x Teleconverter?
I want to shoot Travel, landscape, Plane spotting and wildlife please me a recommendation?
I have the Mark 1 16-35 and love it and the 20mm 1.8, buuuuut I hope that Sony improves its 12-24mm 2.8 and please make sure we can add a ND filter on the front!!!! That would be awesome!
This is awesome video! I love it! I’m Canon fan but I also like Sony, Olympus and Nikon. At the moment I take pictures with old Canon DSLR and old mirrorless Olympus. If I had the money I’d get Canon R5.
Is the 16-35mm f2.8 GM I that bad off center, or is that particular lens decentered? Most of what I heard of the GM I vs GM II for the 16-35mm is that the size and weight is the biggest difference but the quality is comparable. I picked up the 24-70mm GM II lens recently because the quality seemed to be a vast improvement over the GM I from what I could tell on reviews like these.
Also, for the heated brand debate, I'm used to Canon since my family has been shooting Canon for a long time, but I recently picked up a Sony and I've been loving it. I don't particularly like how the new Canons have very few dials, I like being able to easily see that I'm in the right mode, or what my EV compensation is, and I do like the standard Sony color too as you have mentioned, only tweaked a little from standard to get the color more natural.
From what I can tell, the color of the Sony lenses are actually not necessarily "too vibrant" I think at times they can be too "flat" and I think that's what people mean by too clinical, it's like Hi-Fi systems, where the flatness makes it less musical, and I do notice that sometimes but I also like that about the look, it feels more accurate instead of tinting your view through rose tinted lenses. You can always grade the color to pop more in post but it's hard to have a truthful and balanced image from the beginning.
I've been rocking Canon for a minute now, but I'm definitely thinking heavily about switching to Sony. I've been leaning more into video lately and Sony is really investing in their cameras for video and social media stuff and that's basically what I do/need.
but nikon z6 is all you need.... 😛
Still rocking the 20mm 1.8 G. You can find them used for $600+. Best bang for the buckaroos imo
My fav wide lens of all time : 20mm 1.8
Sara i love your videos
yes
my huge problems with this videos is that for many many years people praised the 16-35 (or insert another sony lens here) and when the new one comes out, the flaws of the first one always became very apparent.. so that's why we shouldn't believe influencers in the first place, not now not ever.
exactly! They present the predecessor in a away like it couldn't take good pictures anymore 😮
I love when Sara is among green things😂😂
Holy quality content
Re Canon lens sizes, yep. But an added benefit of size...people get out of my way, esp. when I break out the RF 28-70mm f/2L USM (and I don't need to carry 2 extra lenses) 🙂
i had a a7siii since 2020, but im not a film guy, footage is nice but shaky, i have zero patience for my $1000 gimbal... the other day i got my gopro11 and a zoom recorder and boom, footage was smooth i can move like crazy....result? I just ordered two more gopros (hero 12) and i'm thinking about selling my Sony @ Setup... I still will keep my Zv10 just in case i need that DSLR thing
hugh i just remember i need this sony hahaah for long telephoto shots lol haha, but i can keep my cheap tamrom 70-300 use it on the zv10 with a tripod and i should be fine...
I had a chance to use this at Sony Kando, and this might be my first G Master lens!
Also, we gotta talk about the BTS of that 1:13 shot lol. Was this always this wide and you punched in, another camera that you transitioned to, or or or?! 😂
Lol photoshop gen Ai fill :)
I remember when you had that wide angle look and it was a unique look to your tech videos compared to the other tech youtubers. So while it may not have been "the most accurate" it was a stand out look.
Your beautiful green eyes look great in the green outdoors, or is it the lens🤔👀👍😍 Nothing against Sony but still can't beat the feel of a Canon in your hands. When it comes to images can anyone really tell the difference between images produced from high end Nikon, Sony or Canon cameras, there all so close, heck even Fuji does a great job, especially with those greens💚
I'm using Canon through and through, since I've been using Canon for a long time. Was about to switch to Sony if Canon hadn't announced the R5.
I think most things regarding the "too sharp" stuff or "too vibrant" stuff is just coming down to applying a LUT. Which is also, why I mostly think the colour as a main talking point is BS nowadays. You can create presets and LUTs so that your camera/lens combos match (almost) perfectly if using RAW or LOG which doesn't really take up more time 'cause realistically you're not changing gear too often.
So, I feel like this has blown up into a topic which really isn't a big deal. I'm always happy if companies are innovating and improving gear.
My 16-35 gm ii is on preorder, can't wait to get it. My only gripe is that Sony lenses and cameras can have a 'plasticy' feel to them. Other than that, Sony is awesome. I like the images coming out of the Sigma lenses better than Sony though, but Sony colors have come a long way.
Been using Sony since NEX 5N and have become a Sony guy since. 5R, RX100MKII, A6000, A5100, ZV-1
What about the 12-24 GM?
Hi Sara! New subscriber here! love the colors of the skate scene. What picture profile & luts did you use to grade? please share🙏🙏🙏
I shot with Nikon "F" cameras in the 80's and 90's. Switched to Canon in 2003 with the 20d. Thought of moving to Sony. The whole sony photographic evolution has been amazing to watch. Shooting with a Canon 6d markii. I have relied on my creativity to make my images stand out not the equipment.
i shoot on a a7r2 and rokinon cine lenses and fx6 and the same lenses, The Mk 1 and 2, are not worth the upgrade BUT if you don't have it go for it. hehe. Also, Ms. Dietchy loves new tech, i enjoy the videos.
@@hi.imgonner5813 Sony has done a tremendous job of reinventing the mirrorless camera. I love seeing the lenses in action. Sony has mind blowing technology. I would love a Sony 645 camera. Much like the Mamiya 645.
I have a sony Alpha 250 with a 15 til 100 lens.
Is there a Lumix lens in that bag?
Never mind I just saw that you use the Lumix cap in the Tamron 17-28mm 😅
What backpack is that in the beginning of the video?
It’s a tenba! Forgot the exact model but go a few months back in my videos to my last camera bag tour that’s the backpack
Full HDMI is nice as well... Canon ... I love my Sony and e mount. However Lumix is definitely tempting me. But I'm already so invested in Sony.
Do you check all that gear?
Dear Sara:
Great videos and lively energy!
Two words, though ~
• Slower
• Enunciate
With a scintilla of effort managing your pace and diction, you could be a bigger YT star.

usually aspherical lenses help correct abherations
I always enjoy your videos, Sarah, and while I am very interested in this new 16-35, what really struck me was your comments about Sony’s images looking “clinical”. I’m a stills shooter, and I’ve seen a number of videos lately that relate to the “clinical” look of photographs, talking about applying negative dehaze and negative clarity to make images look, what?, better? I find the whole concept a little absurd. These current cameras from Sony or elsewhere, along with the lenses that are available today are capable of creating unbelievably sharp and highly detailed videos and photographs. Isn’t that what we all are expecting from this current imaging technology? So to complain that a camera’s image is too good or so precise that it’s boring or needs to be dialed back somehow seems crazy. Don’t we want to capture absolutely the best image possible in camera instead of expecting a camera to capture an image that is “soft” or “creamy” or looking like it was shot with Velvia or whatever? If you have captured the highest quality image data, you can always do whatever you want to it in post. Software today is so sophisticated that you can make your image look like whatever you want, but don’t you want to start that process with the best possible image data? I want the images coming off my camera to look “clinical” because then I know that this incredible piece of camera technology is doing what I’m expecting it to do.
I love sony from a6500 untill now with a7r5 ..
You make me get a 16-35 💀 what gear case did you use there? The compartments seem neat!
Now thar the A7Cii is out, looking to upgrade to an used A7C from my 8 year old a6000. The 16-35 GM us not on my list though, a bit to bulky and out of price range haha
