Oh no, not "priceless". That's readily quantifiable. (I know, you're parodying the credit card commercials, lol).
First, he's out a job. He works in a cubicle, so let's assume $45k a year is gone. He's in prison for 3 years. So that's $135,000 right off the bat.
He'll need a criminal defense attorney. The whole "If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided to you"... the threshold for that is like $16k a year, which he clears, so no free lawyer, he's out of pocket on that one, and his defense will conservatively run $20k.
Prison isn't free either. You do have to pay for your own upkeep. You come out with a nice big bill that can't be dismissed in bankruptcy. Usually only about $15/day, plus several thousand in surcharges, so somewhere around $18k will be owed when he gets out.
Based on my guess about his salary, he likely doesn't own a home, but he'll lose his apartment and any deposit because he likely won't be going to jail exactly at the end of his lease, so he's breaking the lease. His belongings will need to be moved to storage, and that's about $100 a month. We're likely looking at another $15k total for the disruption to his living situation.
Assuming he's smart enough not to keep his car while in prison. He'll likely need to sell it to cover his lawyer's fees, and in that salary range he's going to take a loss on that. I can't estimate that but easily a few thousand dollars minimum.
When he gets out, his career is over. The only reliable industry for ex-cons these days is in food service or call-center work. He won't get back into a skilled vocation with his criminal history, it'll be some industry that needs bodies on the cheap and has a high turn-over. I don't know how old he is, but let's guess he has 25 years left in his working life. The lost income will be spread out over that time, with fewer raises, less opportunity for promotion, etc. Over his life, this is easily worth another $200,000, and that's assuming he's not in a skilled vocation before these events. It could be much more. So if my first guess at his lost income for his time incarcerated is too low, this levels it out quite a bit.
He will likely have court-mandated conditions on his release, including psychiatric visits, that can cost tens of thousands.
All said and done, this easily cost him half a million dollars, which is a LOT for a guy who I'm guessing is making less than $50k a year, lol. Financially speaking, there is no such thing as coming back from prison. Your finances are forever fucked, recovery is almost never possible.
He'll get out, file bankruptcy, start flipping burgers or answering phones for a living, and probably end up in subsidized housing in the worst neighborhood of a shit city, take the bus and he'll live in poverty until he dies young. And that's the best-case scenario for him. Many in that situation end up homeless. Ask an ex-con, Prison is usually the easy part. At least there they have guaranteed shelter, clothing, food, medical care and an end-date to that specific obstacle. Getting out is when the real punishment starts.

Now I’m no psychologist/psychology professional by any means (just an autistic chick with a special interest in psychology and psychiatric disorders) but this man’s strange obsession does remind me of a disorder called erotomania. It’s an uncommon delusional disorder in which the individual is not only fascinated and ‘in love’ with someone of usually higher social status than them, but also believes that the person they’re obsessed over loves them back. The delusions can be so overwhelming that they can believe that they are in a secret relationship with them, reading every word and action the person does as some sort of sign of their ‘love’ for them. Coincidentally, there’s also a French movie about this, it’s actually one of my favorites because it’s use of perspective, it’s called He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not. It’s very interesting, so give it a watch if you can :D

Many people throughout history have done horrible things within their own lives while also accomplishing other great feats that ultimately progressed society. Dr. Seus is a great example of that as well, and I'm sure you could find more names if you wanted to. Anyway, my point is that the stalkerish/creepy behavior isn't justified just because we acknowledge that he was good at what he did: story telling and writing. Two things can be true at once.

I wrote a horror story in college about a workplace stalker and was told it was too over-the-top, which it probably was. But this story is 10 times worse and actually happened. I'm glad she's okay and everything turned out fine for her in the end, but it's clear this did a number on her. I think it would on anybody. How absolutely terrifying!

Oh the moment he said that the cubical neighbor was keeping a journal, I knew exactly what the story was. The guy is fucking insane! This is the first time I did hear the woman's side of the story whenever someone read the story. This poor woman went through so much with this crazy man.
Just finished the story and I think RSlash's mood is perfect. He went from laughing at the stupid entry (because at first its just funny and stuff) but as the guy gets more and more unhinged, he stops laughing besides uncomfy chuckles. It really shows how he went from just being a weird guy to a total psychopath. At least the woman is doing okay and said she can laugh about it nowadays.
That creeper wasn't ever anything but a dangerous freak from Day 1.
When the "Why? How could you do this?" entry came up, I thought OP of the story got engaged and was wearing a ring and talking to co-workers about it. The craziest part of this story in my opinion is the HR and complete lack of judgement. But maybe it was a blessing in disguise as OP was in a different city and that guy was delusional enough to camp outside her place for days. But that part was just lucky, very lucky. Could have been far worse.
This guy could write a novel that would make even the author of Fifty Shades of Grey's skin crawl.

What gets me the most out of all of this is that in the entry from when she went to mexico, he's clearly aware enough that his obsession would probably freak her out if he had "gone with her". And all the entries have the vibe of "I'm semi aware that everything im doing is insane and could be received very VERY badly, but im doing it discreetly and going nuttier with every entry".
As soon as I heard "cubicle neighbor", my brain just logged out, I KNEW what was coming! "Our Love Forever" is such a blast from the past, it's fun to see this horrifying story resurface again, thanks for pushing through the terrible, abhorred details with full gusto just to make this more entertaining for us. You're a treasure, R/slash, truly.

Dabney’s crazy-stalker voice/persona, especially the maniacal laughter, was gold. And I love all the commentary too, because that’s exactly what I’d be doing if I was reading it myself! Obviously the story is the stuff of nightmares, but having Dabney read it with a bit of humor makes it more consumable. The important thing is the guy landed his ass in prison and that he was never able to physically harm OP.
He should be fired, publicly outed why he’s fired, have a protective order against him, sued if possible and be put in a mental home

I knew about this reddit post about x years ago. I saw the pictures of the journal. you can see that the person was so upset just the way handwriting went. From time to time, I remember that post and it always chills me. I hand't thought about it for years, and now I'm kind of scared again of how people creepy can't be.
I can just imagine the look on Dabney's wife's face as she's walking by the recording room and hears a snippet of this lunacy entirely out of context, especially the "seed" chronicles. The things that poor woman must hear on the daily must be both baffling and hilarious.

There is actually a Netflix show, from the perspective of an obsessive serial stalker! Throughout the show the audience only sees his pov and hears his thoughts, of why he's doing what he's doing.. It's called "You". The show gets a little more silly with each new season (typical for Netflix) but its still pretty interesting! Could definitely be a fun watch with your wife lol
You do know who he's obsessing over, but its still interesting to see his twisted world view, how he makes excuses for his behavior and how he reflects any and all blame.

I really enjoyed the first two seasons but stopped watching during the third. It had some good parts but the whole affair plot was just uninteresting to me and Love's affair with the neighbour boy was just so uncomfortable.

I remember this story/guy! What scares me is the slow descent to madness. It’s visible in the handwriting and what is being written. What makes it worse on how it was so undetectable to OP or anyone. The guy really kept up the mask well

I love listening to his voice, but honestly, throughout this story, I felt so bad for rslash, I would've died from the cringe.

I know someone (NOT a friend) who seems like the type of person to do something like this. He sent the SAME letter to two women he had only met once at the time, confessing his love for them and why he thinks they should be together. The two women found out about each others letters.
This story is wild!!! But what really made me jump was Dabney's in-character laugh from time to time. Kudos, mate!!!
I remember Sorrow TV doing this one a while back. On one hand it is entertaining how weird this dude was but on the other it’s absolutely terrifying. I get chills every time I hear this post.

This happened to someone my father knows at work. One of his coworkers confessed is ever dying love to this lady in front of everyone at a meeting so ofc they fire him and they found a journal full of entries of him writing about her. It’s so creepy

Holy cow!!! This guy was a total stalker! I hope he never gets out of jail, EVER! He is the classic psychological definition of a stalker and their mental machinations. They perceive a complete relationship with someone who may not even know they exist.

Aw, man. I saw the title and thought this might be the same story that Sorrow TV read in a special edition about 5 years ago, and I was really hoping it would be a different story I hadn't heard before. I guess I will hear it from a different voice which will be pretty cool, but there won't be any ambient music or any *"you just heard something traumatizing, so here's some puppies"* at the end.

Edit: usually Dabney has a bit of a problem with missing parts that other CZcamsrs read, but this time it was the opposite. SorrowTV didn't read any of OP's commentary or the conclusion, even though the editing and voice acting was great. I had to go into the comments to find out if OP actually got kidnapped or anything.

In the TV show "You", the main character isn't a stalker who patiently waits. He is a full blown psychopath who engineers situations and massive lies to get their "love."

Yo this went from creepy cringe to a literal horror movie real fast. My stomach started to sink at the "WEARING: WHO THE HELL KNOWS" and that feeling just kept getting worse and worse. Thats truly terrifying.
Sounds like he has erotomania. I don't know whether it's still recognized under this name in the DCIM, but it is actually a thing: One person obsesses over someone and convinces themselves they have a mutual relationship with that poor soul that barely knows they exist. It can actually turn violent and dangerous for the stalked victim. I don't know if it can be cured, but yeah, it's a thing.

This reminds me of a mission in Dishonored.. You either kill a woman, or neutralize her. I always chose the former, because neutralizing her was delivering her, unconscious, to her "beloved". The guy actually says when you bring her "ah my love. You won't understand what I did, but you will have the rest of your life to appreciate it" or something like that. Creepy asf
This gave me the willies - and reminded me of a stalker I had in the 1970s. I had dated the jerk, discovered him cheating and broke up. He went around telling everyone how we were engaged to be married! Eventually it turned to violence. Back then, anti-stalking laws didn’t exist, so the police couldn’t do anything until he actually broke a law. These men are just sick in the head. I hope there aren’t women who are equally crazy.
I sure hope rslash's studio is well sound proofed. Ms. Rslash does not need to hear that creeps words in her husband's voice.
