@@sageart4771 Oh, absolutely! Especially at that age. If they were older and had more of a grasp of what was happening, I think it would hurt more. I wonder what he told the kids, or if it really was just "it'll hurt mommy's feelings that she couldn't come with us." Sometimes it's really easy to take advantage of a child's empathy at those ages.
Yea Im pretty sure they didnt know about the fathers 'feelings' they just thought they were having fun and didnt want to 'get in trouble' He was probably lying to them as well.
When you're a kid, you go for self-preservation, even if that means straight up lying. My mom told me that she _knew_ she had to leave her abusive boyfriend when I was 2 or 3 and I lied right in front of her. We had gotten stranded and stayed the night with a friend of hers who happened to be a guy. Mom and I slept on the couch, he in his bed. Boyfriend accuses her of sleeping with the guy, she says she was with me the whole night and to ask me if he didn't believe her.
Now, I'd been on the receiving end of his horrific abuse as well as see him hurt and try to kill my mom. I could read him, even that little, and apparently I went with "tell him what he wants to hear". My mom said her heart broke when I looked right at her and said, "Yeah, she slept in his bed and I was on the couch by myself." She realized what kind of position she was putting me in day in and day out, and she got us out after. We had to live in a women's shelter for a while, and she did end up going back to him for a while after he love bombed her, but she was a battered 19/20 year old. I don't hold it against her.

Oh my god, I hope the first OP gets her oldest son therapy ASAP. Being manipulated by your parent to lie to your other parent can screw up your head so bad. It breaks my heart way more than the cheating.

That's not what the sentence "Aren't they yours?" means lol. It means the husband didn't know they weren't the wife's and thought they were.

My husband was always surprised and frustrated when our son was a baby because I had an encyclopedic knowledge of our child’s wardrobe. Even the clothes that didn’t fit yet.
I also always knew which ones were clean and which ones were in the dirty laundry.
(Now my kid is a teen and I’m slightly less knowledgeable about his wardrobe.)
So, if I had that kind of knowledge about my kid’s belongings, you better believe that I have similar knowledge about _my_ belongings.
My husband, on the other hand, can hold up a t-shirt and not be sure who’s it is, even though it’s obviously a men’s shirt in a 2XL. Our son wears a mens medium. Guess what size my husband wears.
He’ll say “I don’t remember this shirt”, and I can tell him when we bought it and where from.
Heck, if we bought it online, I can probably show him the receipt.

That third story was relatable as hell for someone like me, who is also incapable of realizing when someone is flirting with them.
Story 1 - it's worse than just the husband and son lying to her. When they got caught, the husband tried to throw the son under the bus, saying he found the glasses in the son's backpack. So dude is a cheater and a terrible father. I don't blame the kid for lying. When your dad tells you to do something, most kids do it and aren't mature enough to question it.
To give the father the slightest bit of decency, it was the son who came up with the lie, the dad just played along

Story 1: he was so cocky he wouldn't get caught that he went up to OP's face and compared the two, as if he was bragging to his wife that he was getting away with it. In the end that's what got him caught, believing his wife with too stupid to not read in between the lines. Before we all crucify the oldest son for covering for Dad I need to know why, is there a chance he was manipulating his kids in the keeping it secret but the younger one was too small to fully understand?

Yeah I can't really blame the kids too much here at their age. It's so easy to say "if you tell mommy this, she will be upset at YOU and never want to speak to you again".
The youngest boy still told his mom the truth whereas his older brother chose to lie to his mom.
Stop lying to yourself about the sons being manipulated because the oldest took it upon himself to lie about the sunglasses without any prompting from his dad.
Kids do know right from wrong and they also know how to lie.
The younger brother might not have known but his older brother was aware of his father’s treachery towards his mom.
That son can live with his dad.
This isn’t the first story where a son was duplicitous in helping his father cheat on the mom.

The thing is you don't know if there was "no prompting from the dad"
I was an older sibling in a broken relationship and parents use their own kids ALL the time to either get back at each other and/or hide things. Sometimes the prompt is way before an actual discussion happens.
Also, they're starting to develop a moral, perhaps at at the age but:
1) this moral is influenced by the caretaker
2) kids at that age can be brided so easily without necessarily knowing they shouldn't. As in "why wouldn't I do that? Dad said he would buy me x toy"
3) 11 is so young, they're not even teens, or barely starting depending the age you believe it start
4) A kid that think he can saves their parent relationship will sometimes do anything as long as they don't fight
5) it's so easy to think that if they're the one to bring it up then they will be the one that did something wrong and will be blamed for it
The youngest did choose honesty over 'hurting feelings' but maybe the dad said something different to the oldest because "you're older and you'll understand better". Also, 9 is still at the age where sometimes you don't understand the consequences of your own words so he maybe simply didn't think about it.
Plus, kids can be conditionned through a lot of things.
And you know what? Often kids just want their parents to be proud. Even if it was unprompted, maybe he just wanted to make his dad proud. And maybe he was told a similar thing to the youngest "your mom will be sad if she learn about it." People react differently to the same information all the time.
The gist of it is - Did the kid do the right thing? Obviously not. Should he be taught better? Obviously. But it's not reason to be super harsh because we don't know what happened behind the curtains.
And yes, we could say the same thing about my side of things. We don't know what happened. And frankly, especially because of that, I don't think we should focus on the kid.
Its highly likely that he manipulated them constantly, so i dont blame the 11yo even tho he probably felt it was wrong. Wow that story really got me annoyed for op and the other woman.

Story 2: Desperation will do that to you. It made her arrogant and unqualified for what she wanted. But, she did learn and I'm glad that she actually is a nice person

Yes. At least she had the introspection and self-awareness to look within herself that the measure she had taken to improve her way of life were very badly judged. Not everyone is capable of this. I used to know someone who lied on her resume and essentially every time she opens her mouth. She was one of those people who played the victim / charity case to get what she wanted but never could keep her story straight. In other words she was a pathological liar, a total asshole and would sell her own children up the river to get what she wanted. In the end, it was discovered she was so inept she couldn't pour piss out of a boot if the instructions were written on the heel.
She wasn't entirely wrong for saying that everyone lies on their certified vitae, as I've read from well known redditor "Older-Sparky"
@@Josh_the_jester not everyone. Let's say it's an actor's resume. It's one thing to lie about your hair color, your age, your weight, your birth year. That's just sheer vanity. To lie about years of experience that you don't have, make up credits that never existed or claim to know people when you don't know them, that's just pure fraud. People will fact check your resume. Sometimes no answer is an answer.
1st story: I bet the father told his son "if you will tell mom you are the reason for the divorce"
Likely he didn't need to be this overt, at that age the kid most likely knew by himself that his parents were going to divorce if the mum found out about the dad's affair and didn't want things to change/ his mum to be upset.
I would not put it past him. I love my dad, but he can be a real ass sometimes. He's never cheated, but him and my butted heads about us when we were teenagers. I was in the room when he told my brother once, "if your mom and I get divorced, I'm coming after the person responsible, and that's you."
My dad also used me brother and I to lie to our mom so he could carry on his affair. I still feel awful about what we put our mom through. Parents who use their kids to hide their affairs are a special kind of awful.
Last story: that's adorable, it's okay OP I suck at flirting too. Some people love comes easy, and others are completely oblivious when it comes to themselves.

Thats always a possibility, but 11 is still an age where they can definately know and understand what cheating is. The fact he covered things up how he did knows he had to keep the secret to a bigger degree than what the 9 year old said the dd told him. An 11 year old wouldnt think her feeling bad because she was working and they were having fun is like an actual reason for keeping it secret.

Personally when I was 11, I got manipulated by my dad really easily into repeating insults to my stepfather, covering for his abuse, and lying about how late I was actually picked up from school. I really doubt that the kid really understood, but that's just anecdotal experience, so if he did, that's a job for a very accomplished therapist.
First story: maybe get a therapist for the son as well. I get the feeling that he’s covered for his dad more than once.

First Story: Obviously OP's husband is cheating on her and he either coached the 11 year old to lie on his behalf or he bribed the son into keeping quiet and lie to OP about it. That said, I won't fault the kid because he is a kid but OP's husband is a scumbag for cheating and getting his own son to cover this cheating. Wow, this man is an absolute scumbag and selfish. Second Story: There is being confident and then there is what Annabelle did lmao. She really thought she was going to get hired on the spot with all the things she did and how she was acting? I know lying during interviews is common but she took it up to a different level. That was a good ending to this story; I'm glad Annabelle saw the error of her ways and apologized to OP and learned her lesson
Third Story, NAH: Why does OP need to mention what she does for a living? I don't get what this nurse is talking about. OP isn't obligated to tell this lady anything about what she does. Just because OP is a doctor doesn't me she has to tell every school nurse she goes to about it. Unless a kid is literally dying and OP happens to be there, then thats a different story but in this case OP is not obligated to tell this lady anything about herself but it is crazy how OP was oblivious to the flirting lo l
On the third story I think the nurse was just saying that to use so she could say that OP could make it up to her lol. Like acting upset about it so she could use it to flirt lol.

Story 3-ish: it only took me the best part of 20 years to realise that a friend of mine from school had been annexing parts of the friendzone. We were always a bit closer than normal friends, and often engaged in a bit of (I thought) playful flirting. Sweetest, most attractive girl in my year, and I had a crush on her, but she was so far out of my league that I was 3 promotions away from her. I was the guy she used to ward other guys off, by hugging me or holding my hand if they got a bit much. Were we in a relationship without me knowing? Why didn't she just tell me outright? Why didn't anybody else point it out to me?
PS I totally would've. Saw her recently, still would if she wasn't married with kids. I'm not going to break up a happy loving relationship just for self-gratification.

Story #1: OP needs Noelle to give a statement for the court if she is in an at fault state.. Typically it is frowned upon to bring your kids on dates with the other woman.
First story, OP really needs to talk with her sons and Noelle about everything. Outside of their youngest, her soon-to-be ex was lying like crazy to everyone on top of telling their other son to lie for him. That man is in the negatives in regards to trust and the kids shouldn't be left alone with him. Hopefully OP can get custody of them from him.

@@Rosskles Yes, but there's no way to prove or disprove any of it from behind a screen, so I take it as "possibly true, but maybe fake" for the sake of simplicity.
That, and with some stuff that's insanely crazy but is _definitely_ true out there, I lean towards assuming it _could_ be true than just assume it's fake because of personal incredulity.
It takes a lot of energy to lie and make up a story. Embellishment is easier but there is still that core truth in many stories

I agree honestly. Parents in broken relationship use their kids to get back at each other or hide thing from the other all the time.

2nd story: I remember hearing that story a few years ago I’m thinking “ good, she deserve that for making yourself look stupid”. It’s kind of surprising to hear how this update turned out. At least she learned from that experience and became better for it
First story gave me PTSD vibes of the story of the woman who's husband cheated on her and got her narcissistic son to lie for the husband because the husband gave him gifts to maintain his silence. With the update that the son contacted OP to get her to pay for his college, after he went NC with OP simply because she was poor.
If I were the mother of that first story, I'd get the kids in therapy immediately and explain the ENTIRE story of what was happening so they knew and understood the pain they were causing or potentially causing.

Rslash videos are my daily dose of seratonin. Trying to read the Reddit posts is difficult for me, so hearing them is great. Thank you Rslash for your videos and making my last couple years tolerable. I have stories that could be up on here, but I can't write it out to be entertaining enough for people to read.
I was fully going "oh yeah, of course Dr. OP is clueless." Admittedly: it can be hard sometimes to tell if a woman is just having platonic conversation with another woman, or if there's flirting. 10/10 not surprised Dr. OP was having a moment of it all just nyooming over her head.

Haha, I remember reading a Reddit thread a while back and the topic was "Tell your stories about the moment when you realized that dang, that one girl/guy back then was flirting with me and I didn't get it until now". People are very capable of missing so many clues that should be obvious. And it's even more funny how they can just as suddenly and out of nowhere understand it days, months or years later.
If that last story was flirting, I suddenly feel way less guilty for any signals I might or might not've missed over my life. That just seemed mean and tense and petty for no reason. Even if reddit was all 'they were flirting' I can't imagine someone being interested after an interaction like that. It honestly seemed a little hurtful and disgusting to see OP go crawling back to someone who verbally attacked them for not sharing something they had no reason to then expected some kind of recompense for that lack of unreasonably expected sharing. It's like one I heard where an employee published a fanfic about dating their married manager online, the manager found it and confronted the person, and then after reddit's advice the manager ended their on the rocks marriage, apologized to their employee, then started a relationship. Idk... the TL;DR is romance is weird and the r/AITA and r/relationships crowds have some odd standards for what qualifies as wholesome flirting and effective ways to approach someone.

From what I’ve seen I’ve concluded this is an average day in a grown man’s life: -gets flirted with, incredibly not used to getting flirted with- “I’m just trying to be nice why do you get progressively mad?” 😂

My favorite "tell me a time someone missed your obvious signal" story is the mom telling her daughter a story about the girl who showed her a tattoo on her nether regions that was something like a boat above her pubic region and a hidden fish. This was decades ago, and the mom suddenly snaps to and goes, "She was totally flirting with me."
The last story was so wholesome. I also missed those cues as well, being a clueless being, lmaooo

I recently saw a Reddit post about a guy who literally had just realized someone was flirting with him 20y+ ago but he reacted like op in the last story and did not know why the person got mad at him and blocked him everywhere 😂😂😂

My ex-aunt did what happened in the first story. my uncle and her were relatively rich and she was paying my 16 year old cousin 500 dollars a month to not tell my uncle, until my 7 year old cousin whom was always at daycare when the cheating was happening found a engraved necklace with the name Drew Collins on it and started wearing it around the house. My 16 year old cousin said it was his BOYFRIENDS to cover for his mom even though he was straight anyway my uncle found out and lost both kids and his house in court when they divorced. Lesson of the story don't trust your kids they will lie for money.

Glad it worked out for them in the last story, but I'm so glad that wasnt me. I hate getting flirted with by strangers especially when I'm "stuck" with them for a bit (on the street I can just up and walk away, if I'm working at a counter or in an appointment and the customer or employee starts flirting I've got to wait through it)

I was like that older son, I hide my parent's affair for so long. My family was fallint apart and I didn't want it to. I think I wanted my family to be together and "happy".
I regret it. Tell the other parent if you're a kid in this situation; it won't get happier and parents like that shouldn't be together.

Job application story: honestly, I like the redemption story much better than the revenge story any day.
Story 1: Not only did the father involve the kids but I think that the older son lied because he knows what's going on and may be scared that his parents would separate
If it was me in story 1 I would not get angry on the child. I would tell him that I am proud of him wanting to protect his father, but also that adults shouldnt aak children to keep secrets unless it is a surprise party.
The kid didnt do anything wrong, he just listened to his dad, and wanted to keep the family together
the son doesn't know any better, he's young
the father has been making his sons lie to cover for him, that's disgusting and incredibly damaging to the children's mental health

I'll do you one better on that last story - my girlfriend and I have known each other 12 years. YEARS. We're both aro ace spectrum and have apparently had feelings and lowkey flirting for YEARS and both didn't really realize it, on TOP of "oh this is my bestie, of course I'm going to stay up til 5 am talking while she's 16 hours ahead of me. That's what buddies do!"

Can confirm, most lesbians I know are absolutely clueless when it comes to flirting. I knew a bartender back in the day who wore button-down shirts, vests, and bowties and had the most amazing sense of humor. She and I spent a lot of time teasing each other, hanging out, and generally having a good time on the nights I was in for a few drinks. However, I had no idea whether she was actually flirting or just doing her job. I know I had a crush on her, and that she'd chase away any creeps that tried to mess with me, but beyond that I was just fumbling through my first real adventure with flirting and joking around.
Looking back, it's entirely possible she was as into me as I was into her, but I have no idea which it really was. She was on the job and keeping it fairly professional, but I'd catch her waving or winking whenever she saw me. She'd tease me about my taste in drinks and we'd tell each other awful jokes whenever she had a spare moment. All in all, whatever that was, it's been a good memory to look back on for the last five years.
Not gonna lie, I'm like OP in the last story. I recently hung out with a friend at the farmers market and totally miss the fact that she was flirting with me until I told my sister and therapist about the interaction. What's funny was that I had a crush on her for a long time. 😂

Story 1: how did the husband think was going to happen? Like if his feelings were true and he wanted a divorce to be with the other woman wouldn't it look suspicious that the 'ex' wife leaves the house one they start dating? How would he be able to explain things? I think he planned on just dating the other woman for as long as he could while keeping the wife strung along. The 11 year old son most likely thinks it will all work out if he covers for his dad, like "Dad will realize how much he loves mom and they won't get divorce" or he just can't handle the idea of his parents separating and his 11 year old brain thinks this way they are still together since they live in the same building.
