- A playthrough of Electronic Arts' 1991 arcade game for the Sega Genesis, Marble Madness.
I absolutely love Marble Madness. The EA version on the Genesis, however, is not among my favorite ports of it - it's leagues behind the NES and Japanese Genesis ports. It plays well enough, even if the control feels more awkward than it should, and the graphics are reasonably good (even if there are some strange changes that have been made for no apparent reason - why is the marble red, and why have some of the tile patterns changed?), but the sound is pretty brutal on the ears. On the rare occasion I pick this version up to play, I typically mute it before I hit the power button.
If you want a really good port of Marble Madness on the Sega, look at the Tengen-produced Japanese-only version. It puts this one to shame, seriously.

Love this version
they used to have one of these at the airport near one of the terminals , dem was the days
It's a major step up from the Game Gear version - that's gotta be worth something, right?
Yeah, the Japanese Tengen version is far better than this one. That is the port you should dedicate your time to, if you must play MM on the Genesis.
I had this game on the Tandy 1000 EX... I never knew Sega Genesis had a version!
THE SOUND RRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Oh my God, i'd rather listen to the soundtrack of Sonic Genesis on GBA! The Genesis was capable of much better sound quality. In fact, the Japanese Genesis version is just about identical to the arcade version. Why couldn't we get that?
I thought this game was only on NES. Never knew Sega did it.
+Rob West It was on pretty much every system ever
This was the Hamsterball of the 90s
It seems as if this version is based on EA's 1986 Amiga version (which was played with a mouse), while the Tengen version is obviously based on the original Arcade game's code.
The Amiga version? How lazy could EA get at the time?
Alex Kenderian
Well, for years the Amiga version was by far the most accurate conversion of the Arcade game, and it was pretty revolutionary when it came out in 1986. And since the Mega Drive had a very similar processor to the Amiga, they could just use the graphics and most of the code from the Amiga version rather than making something completely from scratch.
The Tengen port is definitely better, but I don't think this is a bad version of the game at all. Considering how much the Japanese version goes for, I think this one makes a perfectly fine substitute. Just wish the marble was blue...
swiggan What's The Difference?
Xdddddddddddddddddddd! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
What year is this game?
My God this game is so short....
1:41 that music sound terrible we know Joe talk about it on Game Sack
3:27 el sonido tapa toda la música
Freakin' EA, at least its better than Sword of Sodan
The music on intermediate
Music and sound by Steve Hayes... BURN HIM! My fucking ears >_
Is… this based on the Amiga port? Because, it screams "Amiga," to me.
*Edit:* Comparing the two versions… I'm inclined to say "no," but also… "what did you _do,_ EA?" Yeah, this is _Marble Madness…_ but, something feels off. _Really_ off. The _audio._
I mean, both ports have the recolored ball and stages, and different text drawing. And considering how Amiga to MD ports by EA tend to look similar with a couple of presentation improvements (See: The Immortal), I'd say this is an Amiga port
As for the audio... they used Steve Hayes' sound driver. That alone spells trouble
And then, there's a port like _Risky Woods_ where EA _completely_ redid the game mechanics while keeping the base gameplay. Collecting coins in the original was a pain, but collecting Armor Links and becoming *literally invincible forever* is a bit crazy…
Also, _heeey, I know yooou!_ Dig your old (effing) videos~!
Game lag always killed me when playing Marble Madness on NES. THIS Genesis version def has better sound than NES.
Are you on drugs? Ear-splitting shrill Genesis noise?
Bro. No. I love the Genesis, but you have to admit the Japanese version sounds way better than this garbage.
are you steve hayes?
Lazy Amiga port, this is. The Amiga to MD ports remind me of how the Amiga actually got lazy Atari ST ports for arcade games.
Back to the future 3 :v
Wow! You can't do this on Nintendo huh? Well in that particular case, Genesis does what Nintendon't, and Nintendon't have that annoying ear shattering music and noise in it's version of this game!
Wow. Worst music in a video game ever.
Agree, but there are much more worse game music on the Genesis like Dark Castle!
