They look extremely similar, the main difference for the Genesis version is the black bar at the top, and a lot more dithering on the colors. I like both, honestly.
@@bacsutek Sure, the differences are obvious now, with the graphics going direct to HD displays. But they certainly would have looked similar on CRT TVs at the time, where the Mega Drive’s dithering was not detectable. Back in the day, the most distinctive feature of SNES games (aside from mode 7 background scaling and “uncanny valley” sampled sounds) was that they looked paler and less vibrant than Mega Drive games.
SNES Ganhou de lavada nessa principalmente no aspecto sonoro xD Eu tenho uma sugestão, faz Dragon Ball Z: Buyu Retsuden ( Mega Drive ) 1994 vs Dragon Ball Z : Super Butouden 2 ( SNES ) 1993
The SNES version wins this one. It can be expected that the Genesis version will have fewer colors than the SNES but it looks like they put more effort into the SNES game. It is full screen, has more voice samples and it has more little graphical details like the school of fish in the selection screen or the dust cloud at the feet of the fighters or the pieces of clay flying off the fighters after some hits. With that said, I do have the Genesis version and I like playing fighters with the Genesis 6-button controller over the SNES controller. All in all a very fun and unique fighter. I have not played the SNES version for a while but the Genesis version controls very well with the 6-button controller. That in itself can be the deal breaker but it is hard to see how a game controls via a video but it does look like the player was able to win easier on the Genesis version and that could be due to better controls.
The SNES version wins IMO, but it's not absolutely clear cut. The SNES version has better colour since it has more colours to use, it's got a few graphical flourishes that the Sega version is missing, and it has more speech samples and the vocal intro theme. However, the SNES version feels more sluggish to me than the Sega version sometimes (slowdown?), and the gameplay received a rebalancing in the Sega version which probably made some of the characters a little fairer. The music's not great on either version (except for the SNES title theme). The sound samples on the whole are clearer in the Sega version though. What was really disappointing with the Sega version was that it was released after the SNES Tournament Edition, yet it didn't get its improvements.
Why would Interplay re-release the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive version instead the superior Super Nintendo Entertainment System version on the Wii Virtual Console?
More soft on Snes but MD have better animation (a tight gain in speed in my opinion and more frame for animation detail on background like the left statue at 7 minute for example) but both are very near. Difference between them are very closed.
snes character models less grainy. both look great though. but...I can't comment on control, I do know that about all fighting games I've played that's been simultaneously released on both systems the control on Genesis has been better in my opinion. I'm not the biggest Snes controller fan.
This is one of those games that are truly awful, but fro ma technical aspect the SNES version is the better game. Any time you've got a game with digitized graphics, the Genesis/Megadrive shows its age.
Genesis looks sharper/crisper thanks to it's higher resolution and has some extra parallax scrolling in some stages, but has that black bar behind the lifebars. SNES obviously has way better colors. Sound is almost even, SNES has the advantage on sample sounds of course thanks to PCM based audio. Neither truly wins, both are comparable considering what each console can do and neither really takes full advantage of the hardware.
They're closer than I thought graphically. I own the Tournament Edition on SNES so I think a couple arenas and fighters were redone on that. SNES has more voices but the Genesis voices aren't nearly as scratchy as other games (ex Turtles in Time vs Hyperstone Heist). If they put bigger ROM chips in the Genesis carts they'd be identical. The synths of each game aren't the worst on each system but neither one are particularly shining examples of the consoles. Luckily the music itself fits the game well regardless if the synthesis method. Overall I'd lean towards SNES.
@@saddamoneil I don't think is that. There are other games that sings in mega drive. They could have used fm synthesis for the music and then the dpcm Channel for the voices.
Snes by far, it has more colors (tho some may argue that it makes it look more washed out than genesis), more screen visible during combat and more voice clips
The Super Nintendo version has better color blending and better character models, but funnily enough, the color pallet on the Genesis looks more true. The background in the first stage for instance is blacker on the Genesis version than the SNES. The SNES having a full screen display of the backgrounds also give it a notch above the Genesis' effort. All in all, you couldn't ask for a better multiplatform effort from this generation, even if the game's quality in of itself is questionable. I'd say the SNES is the better version, but only by a hair.
I'm not sure how people can choose the SNES version here. The genesis version is sharper, runs slightly faster and runs much more smoothly than the SNES at times. It continues to amaze me how the smoother sound quality of the SNES twists peoples perception. At 3:40 look how much better the Genesis version is running. The difference is huge. Also the SNES colors are totally blown out and look horrible. Look at the color of the ship.
I dont give fuck what anyone says genesis version wins. I like the music better there plus I grew up with a genesis it was my first console. Much love to the SEGA GENESIS.
Yes this game sucks on both systems, but the SNES version beats the Genesis version by far. Better audio, better visual effects, more vivid colors. It shines over the Genesis here.
As Vozes Estão Nítidas No Mega,Melhor Som Durante As Lutas,Controles Muito Melhores. Som Do Super Nintendo Só Ganha Na Abertura. Eu Não Estou Como Fanboy.
lazy port.. game play was exact on both systems, so there was no priority in image quality for the genesis, the port was "on the fly". the genesis was more than capable of being an exact replica visually. too bad.
SNES ALWAYS WINS WHEN IT COMES TO SOUND, THE CONSOLE GOT BETTER SOUND QUALITY, PLS DON'T FORGET, SONY WAS BEHIND NINTENDO HEY, SONY USED ITS HIGH QUALITY TECH ON SNES,CHECK WHEN SONY RELEASED IT OWNS CONSOLE PSX, AND NINTENDO RELEASED N64, WHERE ARE WE TODAY? SONY WINS!! BUT ANYWAY, GRAPHICALLY I WILL GO FOR MEGADRIVE, I LIKE THE DARK AND HEAVING SHADING.
I don't know...seems this game knows only losers no winners...since this whole series is just a gimmick up to the CF games on the N64. Graphics in all the games look real nice on screenshots, but during real time play, the animation is poor and gameplay is a real letdown. Should be funny, but becomes annoying after 5 minutes of gameplay. Megadrive version has better gameplay and sharper graphics, less colour though. And the absence of full screen makes it feel slighty claustrofobic to me....even though the character sprites use the whole screen... Snes version has the full screen, little bit smoother but washed out graphics. Actually I only enjoy playing this game for only 5 minutes or so, once every 10 years, but if anyone would point a gun at my head I would choose the Megadrive version but probably regret that choice because of the 'no full screen' soon

Credit where it's due, Clay Fighter was brilliantly presented at the time. A good idea too.
It's just a shame the game engine itself was lazy.

"win easier on the Genesis"
For me, the Genesis version is dang near impossible compared to the S.N.E.S.!
The game was made with the SNES in mind. The Genesis version just seems like an afterthought.
XD

The snes version rocks, better sound and better graphics.
Yeah. Hands down. Genesis did a hell of a job on the looks though.

The snes version has a lil bit better graphics (less grainy/pixelated) also more sounds, and the awesome intro theme
Nintendoes what segadon't!
Omg clay fighters I loved this song
*listen to the theme songs (snes side)* I don't recall that listening to the whole song lol
For Bad Mr. Frosty's KO in the SNES version, he blows up into shreds, but in the Genesis version his KO animation is being melted
