- This is the Japanese version of Marble Madness on the Sega Mega Drive.
The Japanese version is very different compared to the PAL and US version of the game. The Japanese version looks better, sounds better, plays better, and is probably as close to being arcade perfect as you can possibly get.
In this video, Thomas (RetroGameModz) and Zebbe from WaterMelon (the creators of Pier Solar) are playing two sessions of this version of Marble Madness as they try to complete it in 2 player mode without using any continues. Note that this version of the game is much more difficult than the PAL and US version, and that even the "very easy" level on the Japanese version is harder than the hardest difficulty level on the PAL/US version.
The game is played on a real Mega Drive in 60 Hz. No video capturing hardware has been used. We just pointed the camera towards the screen, so the picture quality is not the best.
The Swedish conversation during game play has been subtitled for your convenience. - Hry
OMG.. this is amazing... used to play the US version for hours.. but this is NEXT level stuff! Thanks for educating me! Big like and smacking the big red rectangle for more!
About time we see video of the rare version of Marble Madness, the hard to find Japanese Mega Drive Tengen version. Beats the crap out of the US EA port on the same system.
Yep, this version is definitely more difficult to find than the EA version, and also more expensive. I don't even have it myself (yet). We have been playing it using Zebbe's cartridge so far.
Indeed I saw one on ebay recently, the price was not nice.
+Bloodreign1 I just picked up a boxed ver for $50 and it had ten people watching it.
still worth it

Not a bad price for it, it can go for far more.
Much Better than the EA Version!!!
Absolutely! I don't think anyone can disagree on that one.

even back then ea screwed games up
they couldn't port the arcade version just like tengen did, so they have "ported" the Amiga version
Great game play,is always nice to be able to play with a friend .
Believe it or not i saw this on youtube kids once. GG to both of you guys!
From what AVGN once said, “Why bury the gem, and give us the turd?!”
EA nabbed the rights to Sega Genesis Marble Madness before Tengen could. EA rushed out their turd on the cheap in 1991 to USA and PAL, not releasing it in Japan due to its niche fanbase out there. Tengen took advantage of that, nabbing up the Japanese rights to release Sega Genesis Marble Madness and took their time to create a much better port of the game for Japanese audiences, releasing it in 1993. Im certain that if EA didnt beat them to the punch, Tengen’s Marble Madness would have been released in USA and PAL, too.
Great job on the editing :). I wonder if we'll ever beat easy and any of the other difficulty settings. This was hard enough.
Thanks!
Maybe we will be able to beat the harder difficulty levels sometime. Let's try our best. :)
You both made it! Good job, guys! :D
I don't know which yell made me laugh harder! 4:40 or 9:26.
O_O...... WOW this one is more 1 to 1 (1:1) on par with the arcade than what we got.... man we had to wait at least 4 more years until Midway released their arcade classics for the PS1(X)
So fun @4:41. It's miracle.
8:11 That's svenska (Swedish) 🇸🇪
Dang I Can't Tell The Difference!
Is this the Tengen Version?
EMTecKing Yes.
