Tutorial For Complete Beginners
Hello everyone and welcome to my EU4 Tutorial for complete beginners! Are you new to Europa Universalis 4, or are you having the game and don’t know what to do, then this tutorial video and playlist is the one for you! I will be explaining and teaching you how to play EU4. I hope it is beginner friendly enough with all the explanations at the start of the series. When the tutorial progresses I will play the game and explain everything I do and why I do everything. Have fun with the Europa Universalis 4 tutorial! I wish you succes!
▬ Contents of this video ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
0:00 - Introduction
2:22 - Starting dates for a new game
7:56 - Starting a new game
11:00 - Nation starting screen
16:20 - Explaining things visible on starting screen
27:42 - Explaining different Mapmodes
I play this tutorial with no DLC’s enabled. I chose for this since a lot of people only have the base game when they want to start playing the game. Also with no DLC’s enabled I can easily find out which mechanics I miss the most since I normally play with all DLC’s enabled.

Thanks for doing this without any DLC - great to find a tutorial that is truly for complete beginners 👍🏼
I think this is the best tutorial I've seen because many others jump in too quickly and show you all the features up front without really going back to the beginning and explaining in depth. That said, this game is ENORMOUS and it's a bit intimidating. I had to seek out a tutorial because when I loaded it for the first time I was completely and utterly lost.
Thank you!
I feel the exact same way!
@harim1678 wow thanks!
This is what I’ve been looking for, I’m glad you made it
You are welcome!
@@FlyingDutchy Idem, zeer welkom geheten introductie voor EU4
I dislike other youtubers tutorials on EUIV but you are the best, really like how composed you are.
Thank you for the compliment!
This was extremely helpful. I have hundreds of hours in CK2 and when i bought this game i thought it was just gonna be more CK lol. I was a bit shocked to see how much more complex this game was. Thank you very much for the helpful tutorial brother.
I have watched a lot of other tutorials claiming for beginners but you are the best. You are the only one that goes through everything. I have played Europa 3 for thousands of hours, but now I finally want to try Europa 4. You are the only one that actually explains every single detail. I will keep watching your videos thank you
Glad I could help you!
Thanks alot for these video’s. I think your tutorials.are the best since you really take your time for the details and the big picture and as important, talk at suitable pace. If you do similar games in future, please do more like this. Thanks again.
Great video, and really sound advice on waiting for the DLC to go on sale. I managed to get the base game and got Art of War, Right's of Man and Common Sense in a bundle.
This is incredibly professional! Really great work
Remember that you can join the discord channel if you need help! The link is in the description.
Thanks. This is probably the most detailed tutorial of EU4.
Thanks for making these videos, it helped me a lot!
Thanks for this, loved your Netherlands run and I’ve already sent this to my friends who are new
Thanks Gregory
The right-click tip to add more map modes was a good one!
I like your accent G, sounds cool.
Oh and thanks for the tutorial. I'm still a disgrace at EU4 but at least I already understand the game
A flyingdutchy EU4 tutorial! Thanks for this. Been following your videos since I bought EU4 last year. Great stuff.
Have fun :)
Thank you very much for this Tutorial, Picked the game up with a load of DLCs a few weeks ago, was a little overwhelmed and didn't do much, I am now revisiting, and this is helping me a lot, I will be watching the next videos for sure. You have a great voice for this btw.
thanks
Excellent video I have learned a lot. Thanks for sharing.
Really appreciate these man, very helpful. i love 4x games but this one just confuses me, a big learning curve to do well. ty for the playthrough!
Thanks!
Just starting to watch this video as i felt like playing it, gave it a quick go once before but got confused as i'm used to hoi4. Seems good so far and can finally enjoy the game.
It’s crazy I have over 500 hours but didn’t play for 2 years and when I came back I don’t know what the hell is going on with anything anymore
I've been playing this game since EU2, but I watched your last series yesterday, And I came to the conclusion that too much has been changed, I have to admit it's been over 2 years since I last played and what you showed me with sailors and such was just completely new to me. So I stumbled across this series and I hope that even when I am pretty experienced I can still learn about the newer stuff in this series. If not I'm sure I can learn some new strategic ideas here.
The game has changed dramatically indeed over the years.
Just what I needed, new to EU4 from utilising your excellent CK3 videos..
Have fun!
Thank you for creating this for the Austria patch. Incredibly overwhelming for a first-time player, so this is a helpful introduction.
Glad I could help. Also in the discord people are willing to help as well.
@@FlyingDutchy Good to know. Thanks!
When I first played this game with a friend of mine that wanted to introduce the game to me I was falling asleep on my chair. I didn't know what to do and all I really wanted to do was declare war but after war and ignore other mechanics of the game since I didn't know anything about them. 2 painful hours laters and I grasped enough of the game mechancis to keep me occupied and thinking. 100+ hours and now regretting looking at a map for that long. I'll do it again.
Thanks for this tutorial, but you mentioned some "important" DLCs that could be a good start. It's big sale time these days so diving into this monster (at last) I do appreciate you mention your picks as "must" haves. Scanned your discord but found none mentioned.
No because I don't have the list ready yet so there is nothing to find.
Bro common sense is important ( not human common sense in an offensive way. I'm talking about the DLC LOL)
Thanks!
I just bought the game, but its super complicated, I'm enjoying your tutorial :)
Thanks! I hope the goal and the beginner how to play tutorial will help you!
Same bro
Promise me you don't buy the DLCs at full price. Hahaha, I love it. I have several hundred hours in this game (WC, one-faith, and more completed), but I haven't played in so long, I don't really remember anything. Seeing a relatively new guide that covers the features I haven't played (last version for me is 1.22) seems a good idea, and I'm looking forward to it.
thanks man, ill try to learn this game
The discord also wants to help new players!
Thank you! And sub’d. :)
Well thank you then! If you have any questions I have a friendly discord channel.
I got this game awhile back because i love what potential it has. but ya holy crap is it complex
I love the thumbnail with the guy thinking with the helmet on XD
Splashy made it. I like it as well :D
I'm going to watch as a veteran / new beginner (did a 1 year break :////), completely lost when I launched the game today
Im gonna go through the long haul of teaching my gf eu4, i think i will send her this video also.
I may as well be a complete beginner from a 4 month break
Whah well it is always good to refresh the knowledge :)
Same my friend I did a 1 year break, I was alright at the time, and I want to play back... But OMG I'm a complete beginner too as well, its pretty much discouraging... Really boring that we have to learn everything again... This game is really nice but way to complicated
kinguin is best for eu4 dlc each one cost 2 quid instead of 20 quid
Don't be scared by the trade map..... wow that was the most interesting map.
The thing is there is so much to explain. I really hope I don't scare people away because when you once are into the game it will be the best grand strategy game you will ever play.
@@FlyingDutchy better than crusader Kings 2?
This game? Definitely. In CK3 there are not that many aspects compared to eu4. I am already getting a bit done with CK3 since I saw so many of the events and they become repeatable.
@@FlyingDutchy yes i have to agree with this sadly
Maybe you could direct people to an explanation to trade. This is the main reason I've sat through his of these tutorial videos, and it hasn't ever been explained.
You can currently pay a $5/month subscription fee for access to all the DLC, js.
Hello what mods would you reccommend?
Thanks
Heyo. I am not really a mod user. I only use graphical mods that just change the view. But no gameplay changing mods.
@@FlyingDutchy please share wich ones you use
@@RonRacer100 I did not use any mod for a year I think xD
Is there beginners video how to get Through the tutorial. I always get stuck at some point for some reason. Maybe i do something differentiaali than tutorial supose by accident and tutorial gets stuck. Or at least seems to get stuck. Last time it was about getting fleece to certain poin and it did newer tricker... So the Tutorial tutorial would be usefull! :)
Also would you consider beginner tutorial with every dlls on. That also could be interesting, to see the difference!
Is this tutorial series still valid in 2022?
Yes it is still good. Most things are still the same.
@@FlyingDutchy perfect, thanks!
FYI y’all it starts @ 2:30 😂
Whos else is here only because its free?
Oh boy are more people going to watch my tutorial? :0
me :)
No, no, yes
same lmao
You lost me when you turned off the dlcs. I have all of them
This is a tutorial for a total beginner mate
