      Correct.
      The only time the cornering lamps illuminate is when the turn signal is engaged.
      At 6:57 I turned the ignition off with the headlights on, and the driver side turn signal on just to demonstrate what it would look like without the turn signal flashing.

      Yo FA,
      The Police Model Vics, (P71, P7B, CVPI) have a different wiring harness for the turn signal / side marker bulbs. I confirmed this with my friend WJ Handy Dad. So this easy, "plug & play de-pinning" method only works on civilian Vics.
      In order to do this on a police model it's going to be slightly more difficult, and require some parts like a relay, etc.

    I recently put in those same cornering LED lights in my 04 Grand Marquis from your last video and they’ve helped with visibility a lot. When I first got the car I noticed the headlight just don’t seem to have much throw or brightness so I put the best Silverstar Ultra halogens I could find but only got a slight improvement. At this point those cornering LEDs are practically brighter than my headlights and the prices are very affordable for LED headlights and most on Amazon have good reviews. I was thinking about spending the $40-50 to try them out but I’m not sure how the process will go. I’ve read some Grand Marquis need the retainer ring for the bulb to be cut down (which I can do if necessary) because it doesn’t allow the heatsink to fit past it. Then I’ve read some people say you also need to buy the resistor kit or you’ll get flickering or a light on the dash, but not all the reviews for these cars said that. It’s been years since I pulled the headlights out to change the bulbs but looking at them recently there’s also that rubber dust cap on the back of the headlight housings that I assume would need to be removed or modified to allow the heatsink to fit in the lens. Also being an 04 Grand Marquis with the LCM recall I wonder if any voltage or resistance values between regular and LED lights could cause any issues with it as I plan on keeping it in my car and not having the bypass done unless I ever actually get an LCM failure and have no choice. I think LEDs would really help with visibility and for as cheap as they are I wouldn’t mind giving them a shot but at the same time if everything is going to need modified to get them in the lens and they still might not work without the resistors then I’m not sure it’s worth all the trouble.

    • @PanzerPlatform
      @PanzerPlatform  Před 3 lety +1

      Yo Mr. E,
      Thanks for watching.
      I tried those Sylvania SilverStars first, and had no luck with them either.
      Based on my experience you should not need to add a resistor when replacing the halogen headlight bulbs with an LED headlight bulb, only the turn signal bulbs in my case.
      I share your concern with the currently active LCM recall on 2003-2005 model years. I just got another notice last month to take my car to have the recall performed, but I don’t want it done until I actually have a problem. My 2004 Vic still functions properly, even with LED headlight bulbs. If it ever fails, I have a resource that repaired his by re-soldering the relays on the circuit board in the LCM black box. Or I may even bypass the whole LCM all together.
      Since you have an ‘04 Grand Marquis you’ll have to overcome that “rubber dust cap” issue. My two Panthers don’t have that.
      Choosing the right LED Headlight bulb for your intended application is going to involve some form of “buy & try & return”. For that I recommend amazon since they have a 30-day no hassle return policy. You should know if they’re going to work out after a few days of driving at night in various conditions.
      When it comes to LED headlight bulbs I don’t really like the ones with built in cooling fans. Of course they are brighter, but it just seems like a week point in the design. I prefer fanless with a big chuck of metal to dissipate all that extra heat.
      Stay tuned, I’m currently working on 2, or 3 LED lighting experiments.
      -Chuck

    • @Mr.Everything
      @Mr.Everything Před 3 lety +1

      @@PanzerPlatform Thanks for the response. I’ve also gotten those letters, the first one a few years ago was for a replacement LCM and since then it’s been the bypass which the dealer told me is a 5 hour job so I’ll pass on having everything under my dash cut up and spliced together unless it actually fails since I don’t think it’s a time sensitive recall. I’ve replaced the interior, cornering, and reverse lights with LEDs but I’m keeping the rear lights and turn signal incandescents since they seem to have more problems even with the ones that have resistors and being brighter doesn’t really help with those lights anyway. Plus the taillights take 2 bulbs per lens so that would be adding up money pretty quickly. As fas as the headlights are concerned the ones I’m looking at on Amazon are Sealight 9007s because they are cheap so if they don’t hold up I’m not out much, have a lot of good reviews (including some panther reviews) and they also sell their own specific resistor kit for them if it would be needed. They also are fanless which is one of the reasons why I’m leaning towards them over another brand that has a fan, especially if they’re going to be a bit more exposed without the dust cap then there’s probably less chance of a failure with them, but having a larger heatsink instead of a fan will probably take up more space than the factory set up but hopefully would work.

    Does the cornering lamp come on only with the signal on your Vic? Or always with the headlights.
    Also, since police models don't have those two wires, is there empty pins for those wires at the LCM to wire them up?
    I also LOVE the 06-11 Grand Marquis marker lights. Just wish they didn't "bulge out" as they don't sit flush with the crown Vic headlight when seated. That is why I had to go with a 2005 Grand Marquis Marker Light.

      The only time the cornering lamps illuminate is when the turn signal is engaged.
      At 6:57 I turned the ignition off with the headlights on, and the driver side turn signal on just to demonstrate what it would look like without the turn signal flashing.
      I failed to explain that, sorry for the confusion.

      “Also, since police models don't have those two wires, is there empty pins for those wires at the LCM to wire them up?”
      I do not have access to a police model Vic to take a look, so I’m unable to answer this question.
      However, the wire for the additional turn signal bulb can just be tapped into the existing turn signal circuit in the headlamp assembly. So really, there’s only one “difficult” wire to run, and that’s for the cornering lamp.

    Chuck I revisited this video to reach out to you if you notice. Just scrapped my '04 CVPI to be picked for parts by others after using it as my daily driver for 16 years and replaced it with an '05 Lincoln Town Car, Signature Series, the entry base level car. It has as oem the signal configuration you are modifying to your Crown Vic. Could there be an easier way to reach the same end by plugging in some oem LTC electric harness parts ? Its a nice feature and there are other upgrades in the Lincoln just with the 1 model year advance. Best Regards.

      @@PanzerPlatform Good to hear back from you too Chuck, the question is answered satisfactorily thank you very much. The LTC is a step up in luxury and creature features comfort from the CVPI. Having a Crown Vic and a Mercury you know the experience, its like comparing work boots to dress shoes. I miss some aspects of the trusty old ride but appreciate benefits pf the new acquisition. Mostly performance. The LTCs are sluggish while the CVPIa are energetic and want to blast off.

    So to continue with my blacked out theme for my car, it's probably best to order some Marauder lenses , then go to a wrecking yard and find a newer year Marquis and take the wiring harnesses going up to the corner markers and then wire them into my 2011 p7b ?? I'm understanding the cars are wired quite a bit differently now.

    • @PanzerPlatform
      @PanzerPlatform  Před 3 lety

      Right on Chris,
      Before you spend a dime you need to find out if your car is pre-wired with the 4 wire connector just like this;
      czcams.com/video/7GcFFMGkTUM/video.html
      -
      If your connector only has 2 wires, you're not going to be able to do this as shown in the video.

      Yo Lee,
      This should work for '98-'11 Civilian Croen Vic's.
      Before you buy a set of Marauder, or Grand Marquis side markers, and swing by your local junk yard to pick up the wiring harness, you may want to check the connector on your car first.
      If it has 4 wires like I show in the video it will work plug & play.
      If your connector only has two wires, you'll need to run two additional wires for the cornering lamp bulb, and the extra turn signal bulb.
