For anyone attempting this LED upgrade with a earlier year Crown Victoria 1992-2000 - the key must be in the ON position. The headlight switch bulbs do not come on when the key is OUT of the ignition and the headlight/parking lights are turned ON. They come on automatically when the key is turned to the ON position and powered by the IGNITION. There will be no power to the bulbs with the key out of the IGNITION. Also, the polarity needs to be correct. Just pull the socket and rotate 180 degrees (this was addressed in the video). Just did this on my 96 and 99. Thanks for the awesome video!
I just wanted to thank you for this great video. Crown Victoria headlight switch illumination was out. Found a specialty LED shop, told them about video, they were able to replace the bulb with LED. Works great now.
When I was converting over all my dash lights over to red I realized that the old bulb was burned out like yours. I didn’t know it even illuminated. I wanted to make sure it lit up red and man I had a fun time carefully removing the green film inside the switch
I did this about 2 months ago, couldn’t figure out why it lit up once when I was installing it now it doesn’t I think I have the positive and negative switched !! Thank you again
Hey, appreciate the vid but your thumbnail shows the bottom sections being illuminated as well but when I replaced mine exactly like yours only the top lights up. Is there an additional bulb for the bottom half maybe?
Does anybody know what the hell bulb to buy if I'm looking to simply replace the bulb & not worry about burning my car down because of the bullshit that can happen with using cheap ass LED lights etc? The description gives links to the leds & the ENTIRE switch but NOTHING on the actual point of this entire fix.

You said you had to grind off the lip on the lightbulb to make it fit. What did you use to do that? I have a bulb close to it but one of the legs is just a little shorter than the other and won’t reach the connector. Need to make the bulb go down a little more.
I have a question have you ever replaced the 12v power in a Crown Victoria Police interceptor? Both of mine didn't work in my 2010 I got the bottom one working by replacing the fuse under the hood, can't figure out how to remove the one in ashtray.
sad news... I really liked them. If you go to their website it says several of the employees started a new business and has a link to their new website.
are you talking about the headlight switch or something else? The headlight switch is a fight, I was thinking I showed in the video kind of the "trick" to it, but it's still gonna fight
I put a new led into mine and it seems there isn’t power going to my switch for it. I tested the led separately outside the switch and it works fine but when I insert it Into the switch nothing. I double checked it was making contact and reversed the polarity multiple times and tried multiple leds. What do you think this could be? Fuse maybe?
I replaced the bulb in both of my CVPIs and the "off, parking, and on" now light up, but the dimmer bar below the dial does not. Is there a second bulb for that?
@WJ Handy Dad same question: the dimmer switch seems to light up in yours, I changed the bulb but it only lights up the top of the switch, where the headlight selection is, not the bottomm of the switch where you select the brightness. Is that normal?
I don't like to disconnect the battery unless I absolutely have to. Mainly because I hate reprogramming the stereo. But yes, you can certainly do that to make it easier and safer.
@@WJHandyDad that makes sense, my stereo is very simple, all i have to do is reset the led color. Unfortunately it has bigger issues at the moment. No reverse gear, but im prepared to have a transmission replaced if i have to, needs a new starter as well, but if the transmission is being replaced thatll be a good time to replace the starter too.
You know the other day I I had tried to put it led in that spot and I know the LED should have resistors on them but I wasn't thinking that it was going to do what it did all I did was hook it up I didn't even turn the switch on I just hooked it up and I turned the car on and when I did that the LED turned green and then did something I never seen another dude it changed fucking colors. It went from Green got super bright green then it went red and I popped my hand and I was like oh shit I didn't I never seen it like that before in my life you know what apparently I got I got the polarity correct all I did was touch the prompts to the surface you know just see I was just seeing if it you know if if it worked at all apparently it did because I just did it for 2 seconds. The result has been catastrophic I smelled Burns something burning those plastic then I look and I see all kinds of smoke coming out my vents and my dash. I'm freaking out! I pulled the battery terminals off and of course it was still smoking man when I opened it up man all the way from my LCM to my radio they had three wires and particularly two the dimmer and the an elimination wire were melted and to a point to where they even broke off like a fuse they burn like a fuse but all of the insulation the whole the whole wire 2 seconds of doing it burnt it up all the way to my radio you can see the problems and and the damage to the harnesses and everything it looks like the other thing but I think something might be wrong with my LCM or is damaged now for sure I'm sure but I've never seen nothing like that before and I'm pretty surprised that it would let that much fucking power all that I had to be a whole lot of current or maybe a whole lot of voltage it was a lot of power my guess is that it was a current because the voltage should say the same generally you know and I wonder if I would have had a resistor built in or if I would you know added one if that would have happened but I'll tell you what my car has been disabled for about a week now and I'm still trying to trace the wires it's like I got to go dash apart

yeah same had one of these cars for years, thought "stupid ford"
Same. Just got my CVPI last month and just assumed it was never illuminated.

That switch actually lights up 😳
Thanks for this helpful video! My OCD raged over this burnt out bulb! Ford wanted to sell me the entire switch, not just the bulb!
I noticed on my new cvpi that the switch panel gets very hot. LED isn't as hot as halogen so I'm going to do this to prevent it from burning out
I did this about 2 months ago, couldn’t figure out why it lit up once when I was installing it now it doesn’t I think I have the positive and negative switched !! Thank you again
Glad I could help
Fixed mine today. I didn't have a dremel so I just used some sandpaper to even out the edges on the LED bulb. Works great.
Same thing happen to me on my 2008 Lincoln town car. I have your video in my descriptions yours more detail on the bulb. Big thanks and thumbs up.
Wow, I was sure they lit up but it has been so long gone in mine that I accepted it wasn't on. Tomorrow I'll try to fix it
Your Video's are ALWAYS helpful.
Awesome actually. I have been looking forward to this video for 2 years thank you thank you handy dad
Nicely done. So glad you did a video on this
Hey, appreciate the vid but your thumbnail shows the bottom sections being illuminated as well but when I replaced mine exactly like yours only the top lights up. Is there an additional bulb for the bottom half maybe?
just the 1 bulb... the thumbnail did that because of the way I had to edit it to make it look illuminated.
Thanks for the video. Now ima have to do this to my switch.
I had the same problem with my 94 Chevy pickups a/c controls. With that, I desoldered the old bulbs and resoldered the same LEDs you used into place.

I get them from allelectronics.com

My lights for the heater controls are out also, do you know If this is the same kind of lights for it also?

would you know how to remove the switch pannel from the plastic dashboard? I am struggle to do it.

Yeah the headlight switch. It’s scary to remove lol
get you some plastic pry tools (they sell sets with all sorts of shapes and sizes) and hopefully that will make it less scary
I have a 2001my bulbs are to short and the bulbs are green i ordered a new switch but its not for a p71
good luck with it... I've never worked on any Panther older than 2003 so I don't have any helpful tips

dimmer side doesn't have a bulb as far as I know
I've gotta do the climate control soon, have you done that before?

what would I look to buy if I didn’t want to just replace the bulb, what is the part that holds the bulb called?
the headlight switch - amzn.to/2VCGWL2
How do you get the dimmer panel to light up??
if I'm understanding your question you'd have to do a custom modification

@@victorrand8811 It's extremely rare to internally lose reverse. You may just have a bad sensor or solenoid.

Is it a 3mm or 5mm bulb?
5mm
If you have a 50-50 chance of getting it right why do you get it wrong 75% of the time?

How many people tryed to wipe the white spot off there screen
