  • Been wanting to make this video for a couple of years now, finally got around to doing it.
This is gonna go over the basics and instructions of installing a message center cluster into your P71, or non-message center cluster Crown Victoria or Grand Marquis. (They had civilian models without message centers, but they were pretty rare surprisingly)
    What you're gonna need:
    -Message center cluster
-Message center buttons w/pigtail (A few inches of wiring)
-3 pins to add to your cluster's harness
-Message center button dash trim (optional, but required for factory look)
    Gauge Cluster Harness: (Adding these)
    Pin 13 - Gray/Orange Stripe
    Pin 14 - Light Blue/Yellow Stripe
    Pin 15 - Light Blue/White Stripe
    Button Harness:
    Black - Ground
Orange/Black Stripe - Illumination (Only necessary if you want the buttons to light up)
Gray/Orange Stripe - Pin 13 on cluster plug
Light Blue/Yellow Stripe - Pin 14 on cluster plug
Light Blue/White Stripe - Pin 15 on cluster plug
The illumination feed is 12v. You can tap into any switched 12v circuit, and the lights will just be on whenever the key is on, but you won't have the dimming function. If you tap into an illumination wire, the buttons will come on with the headlights, and will dim with the dimmer.

Just did the swap today, everything works great! couldn't figure out where to tie the wire for illumination. Found all trim and wires at the Junkyard. Thanks for posting this its been a big help.

Take switch illumination from Defrost switch.

I was looking for a video on how to fix my odometer illumination issue when this popped up. Instead of fixing the old one I made a trip to the junk yard. I pulled the cluster out of an 07 mgm along with the button module and an extra harness. I followed your instructions and it worked perfectly. Thanks for the idea and instructions man!

I just want to say I'm really grateful for this video! I watched it a few weeks ago and then stumbled upon a 2006 Marquis at the junkyard in Ajax and pulled everything I needed. Strapped the buttons to the fuse panel bracket. Thank you so much! If you want the remainder of the donor harness so you can pull pins it's all yours.

Thanks for video. Very helpful. Just finished my MC swap. Cluster came from non-TCS car so getting error light in my TCS equipped car. (No, I did not put a 06 cluster into a non-06 car.) I am told FORSCAN config needed to restore traction control function.
Illumination and ground taken from Defrost switch.

Took forever to get OBS Link EX for Forcan. Anyways, figured out how to configure cluster. Turning off TPMS light and turning on hour meter were straight forward. Still getting TCS error regardless of how TCS is set in the cluster. I have IC bit 2 set to 1 which is how the car was built. Ideas?

U the man!!!! I been trying to do this for the longest. I just did not know how. Thank u. Now I do have a Question. I have a Gauge Cluster from a 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis, my personal vehicle is a 2011 P7B Crown Victoria. My question is I have the 2010 Cluster and I got the wiring harness for the 2010 cluster. Is it easier if I just ran the wires from the control button to the wiring harness by matching the colors since wiring harness came from the cluster in that 2010?

I have a 2010 crown Vic P8B and my message center screen only displays odometer, trip meter, and idle hours. Is there a trick to get the other functions to work? I had a 2011 Dodge Avenger and the message center showed fuel levels, tpms guage, mpg levels, ect. I was under the impression that the 2010 P71s and P8Bs had pretty much the same info on their message center. Is that not correct? Or do I need to "program" my cluster or add pins or something? Any info you have is greatly appreciated. I'm new to the interceptors but I will DEFINITELY be buying more. Thanks in advance for any help or direction you may have. Happy new year as well.

I believe your message center by default only shows the 3 features you mentioned. The civilian crown vics/MGM message centers are bigger. They are taller vertically. This is why one would need to do the swap demonstrated in this video

  • @sussextechautobody9914

Hey Brian great video. I just bought a 07 P71 and the cluster will only work for a few seconds at a time, mostly it doesn't work at all. I found several videos about repairing the dime odometer at it also showed re-soldering the main connector pins that go through the circuit board. I re-soldered it even though nothing looked wrong with it. I got excited when I reinstalled it because the cluster stayed on for as long as it ever had (maybe 35 seconds) then off again. if I twist the connection it will come on, this is driving me nuts! I don't want to spend much money on this thing, it is just a fun project for my teenage sons and myself. Do you have any suggestions? I would appreciate any advice.
    Thanks John

Check the wiring harness (and connector that plugs into the speedometer) for any looseness and or corrosion. If you do have to replace the wiring harness for the speedometer you will need to disconnect the negative battery cable and take out most if not all the dash components and possibly remove the dash to replace the harness (gain way more access to it).

    • @BriansGarage
      @BriansGarage  Před 3 lety

It IS possible, but the amount of work is usually deemed not worth it. You basically have to start out by replacing every single component of the HVAC system, all blend doors, blower motor resistor, I believe the blower motor itself may be different but I don’t remember for sure. Then you also have to replace the dash harness which also involves dropping the dash and taking most of it apart along with it being dropped
