    Nice review, I very much agree with most , if not all, your points of view! Hard to tell what is most misplaced at its battlerating; the ultrastrong, speedy and well gunned B-34 at 2.0, or the new Hellcat at 5.0, yes indeed the last one is very, very weak, like expected, at 5.0 arcade.
    Good to have you back, Sir!

    I look forward to seeing what you have to say about the He-100 in-game. I've flown it myself in RB and have been relatively pleased with how it handles, though I agree that its armament is a lot lighter than I'd've expected it to be.

    @long5hot  Před 7 lety +3

    The "disappearing shell" bug I refer to in this video was, it seems, only for tanks - and apparently has now been fixed. For planes this is still another patch with concrete damage models and underperforming cannon. Though at least .50 cals (apart from the early belts) have been improved, so there is that.

    Hey Long5hot - nice summary. Top quality as always.
    The ground pounding IS an issue but there are maps in the rotation that have longer battles. I feel anything BR 5,0 or less is ok to play and have reasonable matches. Top props (5.7 > 6.7) are a mess with bomber spam in arcade. I almost wish all players would fly just bombers to force Gaijin's hand. Imagine how quick you would research the tree with bomber payday's and no opposition.
    Keep positive and be open minded. There is still plenty for the game to offer. Hope to see you in the sky sometime.

    Completely agree with your comments on groundstrike. Had a game the other day which lasted 3mins and 24 seconds in Arcade!! In fact the majority of Arcade battles are lasting about 5 mins which to be honest has stopped me playing the game with any regularity. Nice to hear your dulcet tones again Longshot. Come on Gaijin, stop the rot please!!

    Oh wow, i thought i just saw a ghost!
    Seriously though, great to see you, man! As far as La-11 is concerned, it is another useless piece just like Tu-14... The plane is nearly identical to La-9, though heavier somehow, and has one less 23 mm cannon.. Who would want this plane? I don't know... only maybe as a collector's piece.. And what i can gather about the Ki-100 II is that again, it is identical to the original one, only with the tear'drop canopy.. I might be getting one, though.. Ki-100 is one of my favorites in the game.

  • @CoyoteCourtney
    @CoyoteCourtney Před 7 lety +1

    Glad to see you making videos again, well a video, but I can't really recommend the game at the moment. Nothing's changed, although there might be some light at the end of the tunnel with World War mode and a buncha other promises that have yet to become real. One thing you didn't mention but is pretty cool and useful is extra component info in the X-Ray view, like engine type and power output or gun type and caliber, etc. They also did technically change the Hellcat's model (not flight model); the F6F-3 had a pair of extra windows behind the canopy, and the F6F-5 version deleted them.
    I have been having a great time with the C-6, she's tough as nails and the flight model is not as bad as it might seem. The one and only time I've actually been shot down happened because some dude rammed me in a head-on, then respawned and crossed the map to kill me while I floated around without tail controls. The bomber spawn is nice, but in my experience the bombers all dive when they notice you're in a C-6 and I end up taking on a lot of single-engine interceptors instead. I know big twin-engine fighters are more my cup of tea than yours, but don't underestimate the Ju88 airframe. It's no super-plane but the German's didn't build it throughout the entire war in almost every possible role for nothing.
    I'm not actually flying regularly right now, and when I do fly I'm moving towards SB as my primary mode in any case, but if you do happen to see me online don't be afraid to say hello or send me an invite. Good luck and good hunting!

    Long5hot! You're not dead!
    Now, now... I respect that it's your decision whether or not to play the game and I don't blame you, but it's scary when no one hears from you for so long. At any rate, always a pleasure, mate.
    And as far as the patch goes, well... I haven't had much time to play with it. Holiday travel and all that jazz. I HAVE however, had the chance to play (and spade) the He-100 and the Ju-88-C, and I can say this:
    The 88 is very much a bomber hunter (and in fact, I almost feel like Gaijin is trying to bring about a resurgence of the Heavy Fighter with this role specifically for Arcade, as they tend to be little more than 'hangar filler' for most people). The flight model isn't great, but with it's classification (and bomber spawn) it really helps mitigate that impervious bomber damage model. Also, at the time that I spaded it (which was two days ago) I don't think anyone was yet used to the idea of a Ju-88 at bomber spawn with nose cannons, as they were all too happy to oblige me with plenty of head-on opportunities. As a scrapper, it's not much (obviously) and like all heavy fighters, it relies more on it's elevator than it's rudder to get around, which means you need to predict where your target is going and use the keyboard to angle your plane in the right orientation, but for players that don't see you coming (or don't see you as a threat) their deaths are quite swift.
    I found the He-100 quite a joy to fly, in spite of it's lackluster armament (though personally, I feel the, as .30 cal rifles go, the German's probably have the best of the lot). It's turning wasn't the greatest, but it had that 'floaty' feel of the He-112-A0 and a fairly good rudder. In the three flyouts I've used it, I've taken down 18 enemies without the loss of a single plane. You'd be proud of me.
    I haven't had much chance to get a feel for the new American M2 belts, but the P-47 seems to swat planes out of the skies even easier than previously. know they're using the same belts they always have, but the .50s seem just a bit more effective after this patch.
    Anyway, hopefully I'll have more time in the near future to pick it apart a bit more. Glad to hear from you, and hope to hear from you some more!

    Got the Ta 154. Its more fun than I thought it would be. I share your distaste for bomber spam. Always have. I spend a lot of time cleaning them up to elongate the matches and really its kind of impossible as they are very risky to engage now since they have gunners that no longer seem to miss. So I welcome this new plane to my German line up.

    Very well made video, Longshot and well formulated and justified criticism. I agree to most of your views completely. Very nice to see you making videos again. In order for me to enjoy arcade in WT I had to completely quit the idea of "winning" in the sense of not going for ANY mission objectives appart from the occasional Arcade Power Cap just for giggles. This sometimes makes for very interesting matches that have nothing to do with the main game whatsoever: It has all become just a matter of shooting down planes, preferably those who are going for objectives, bombers, people who are on the lookout for duels etc.. It is so sad that Gaijin won´t listen to renowned and respected CZcamsrs such as the leader of this here clan, =DMH=, and many others when it comes to game design. Hope to see your more often in the skies nonetheless. I hope that this little not listed piece of mine may serve as a lil appetizer and advertisment for my concept of "game in game" for WT arcade and make you fly out more often, perhaps? We all miss you very much!

    The He 100 is an absolutely awesome plane, and the weaponry is sufficient at its BR of 1.7. You should try it, it is a joy! Btw it was the fastest plane at its time for a short period.

    • @long5hot
      @long5hot  Před 7 lety +1

      That's the thing, for a plane with such an excellent FM, it deserves weaponry that would allow it to be rated alongside similar opponents at, say, 3.0 - rather than fighting biplanes. Especially as there's tons of evidence that the plane had a motorcannon.
      I believe Gaijin have mentioned reports that the MG FF caused too much vibration (which didn't stop them putting the Yak 9K into the game which had terrible issues of that kind), but the FF/M and 151/20 would have solved that problem. There's also documents saying that the later models had three 151/20s, replacing the two wing-root machineguns.

Tbh I completely stopped playing this game because of all reasons you mentioned in the video.The game is just not enjoyable anymore.Arcade is broken for airplanes which I allways enjoyed more than tanks. I remember the good times where I had between 8 and 15 kills per match in any mode and if it was air domination you could get even more.Now the games last 4 minutes and if you get 2 kills you can be happy.i started playing this game because of you and got very good at it also because of your videos and guidance.But gaijin screwed that up. Oh hey since you mention the Ki 100-II, let me piss and moan about that for a second.
      The Ki 100-II is like a Ki 100, but whereas the Ki-100 is an endwar superfighter built in limited quantities in 1945, the Ki-100-II is an even better endwar superfighter with better cockpit visibility and an improved engine which (according to our buddy CL) looked great on paper but wasn't actually available for production. It has about a 30% increase in horsepower over the Ki-100, which is great because the original Ki-100 was artificially reduced to the share a BR as aircraft from the Battle of Britain, leaving a vacancy in the latewar era where it properly belongs. Now, with the advent of this new and improved version, the new Ki-100-II can come in and join the exact same BR as the existing one! Wait. What?
      Well, that's the outlook from simsville anyway. Your mileage may vary. Might actually be a good subject for a long5hot plane analysis.
      Salty much? Yeah I know. I'm just blowing off steam. At the moment my opinion is just based on the stat cards. I'll see what the reality looks like after I've played it for a few months.

    • @long5hot
      @long5hot  Před 7 lety +1

      Ah yes, that's always the way with new vehicle patches - you just know that some planes will be drastically overtiered, but others will be outright clubbers. Remember the FW-190 A$ at 3.3? Good times :)
      One thing on the Japanese late-war planes though - they were rarely as good as the allied equivalents, due to poor fuels, poor build quality, poor engine materials, poor pilots and rushed design/testing. An earthquake in 1944(?) really messed up their aircraft production & they never recovered. Hence I don't think its as simple as saying that its a 1945 plane, so it belongs at a BR of 6.0. Some of them will, and some will not.
      The Ki-100s are really just Ki-61s with a radial engine ad-hoc bolted onto the front, they're really obsolete designs by late war, but the Japanese were going with what they had.
      But having said all that, if the Ki-100-II is as good as you say, it definitely deserves an uptier. Then again, it could also be just a case of an initial placeholder FM which will eventually be updated/nerfed.

    • @apieceofstring
      @apieceofstring Před 7 lety +1

      Time will tell. I will say, the existing Ki-100 already seems quite strong to me when I encounter them in sim. It does have the exploitable limitation of being not super fast in a straight line (even compared to the competition at 3.7)... but then again, you could say the same thing about nearly every great Japanese plane; their strengths tend to lie elsewhere.
      I know what you mean about Japan's late-war situation, and it's bound to create a historicity problem for even a well-balanced BR system. My comments about it being a 'superplane' may be a bit hyperbolic. Then again, it is based on things like this:
      "During March and April 1945 experienced instructors from the Akeno Army Flying School flew the Ki-100 in extensive tests against the Ki-84, which was considered to be the best of the JAAF fighters then in operational service. Their conclusions were that, given pilots of equal experience, the Ki-100 would always win in combat."
      (from the wiki; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kawasaki_Ki-100)
      Anyway, whatever else bears out, it will always strike me as extremely fishy to have a premium with a 30% boost in horsepower share the same rating as its nonpremium counterpart. At least _one_ of these planes has got to be on the wrong rating.

    • @TheSphynx311
      @TheSphynx311 Před 7 lety +1

      I've always felt that the original Ki-100 was set to a too low BR at 3.7. I'm not great at flying and only play AB but I have a 53:1 K/D in 11 games it took to spade it. and the only death was when I accidentally put it in my 4.7 lineup and got a full uptier and got jumped while it was stock by an N1K2-J. I think it's OP at it's current BR.

    • @long5hot
      @long5hot  Před 7 lety +1

      I've died a few more times in this plane, but nearly always from bomber gunners setting me alight. Once I made the mistake of taking a head-on vs a Blenheim, and his single .30 cal lit me up ... but yes, at 3.7 its undertiered. Should be at least 4.3 in Arcade, not sure of the other modes.

    Its sad what WT has become, it could have been a great game. Removal of the BR system and back to the tiered system would be a great first step

    • @long5hot
      @long5hot  Před 7 lety +1

      Yes, but that's the problem - occasional weekend events don't cut the mustard. There's no reason why it couldn't or shouldn't be permanently available.

    • @GumMagnum
      @GumMagnum Před 7 lety +1

      I absolutely agree, but I don't think gaijin is capable of that sort of wisdom just yet. In the mean time, I'm just going to take advantage of these events as they come and play other games. In a way I'm sort of glad War Thunder is increasingly unenjoyable; I would have never discovered competitive Team Fortress 2 if it weren't for gaijin's incompetence :P

    • @long5hot
      @long5hot  Před 7 lety +2

      Speaking of Gaijin's incompetence, their failure to leverage the creative people in their playerbase is simply bewildering. I mean, they made the CDK available which allows anyone to develop planes, tanks, camouflages and missions - its the same tool their own developers use to create maps. It seems pretty obvious that they either lack the staff resources to commit someone to working on EC and other maps full time, or that the developers they've given it too are incompetent. Fine, why not hold a competition for the community to come up with maps?
      There'd be plenty of submissions, out of which there'd doubtless be some absolute jewels which would promote excellent and varied gameplay. Gaijin could reward the winners with a couple thousand GE - even pay them a few hundred dollars which would be a fraction of the cost of paying their own developers, adopt the winning maps into the game - lots of goodwill is created, and everyone wins. But now, they keep the community at arm's length and persist with their own uninspired mission designs which seem to take forever to implement. It just boggles the mind.

    • @GumMagnum
      @GumMagnum Před 7 lety

      long5hot Having been with the game this long and watching the gameplay slowly slipping away from the original vision throughout the development of the game, it kinda feels like watching your neighbors kid growing up into a drug addict. It's a tragic situation, but all you can really do is hope they do a better job next time.
      Honestly I've given up on War Thunder at this point, but I do think that there is a bright side, even if it's only for me. Now that I'm not spending my time grinding out new planes, I've got enough time to run a competitive team which involves getting to know new people, making a splash in a new community, and possibly even playing in the big leagues for money.
      Perhaps more people ought to boycott war thunder until gaijin becomes a little more responsive towards their community, or are forced to sell the IP to someone who does.

    hey longshot i think you did something wrong with rendering or the recording software was being weird because i did see a solid 60 fps in the bottom left corner so it shouldnt be your pc perhaps just recording software?

    • @long5hot
      @long5hot  Před 7 lety

      Yes, in the game the fps was smooth - I was surprised to see how jerky the resulting footage was. I'm really hoping its not a failing hard drive ... recording video does involve a lot of disk I/O.

      @hendrik457 Před 7 lety

      What hard drive do you have (i'm not a computer guy and if you also arent i can ask a friend and ask him if the hard drive is still suitable for making videos)

    • @long5hot
      @long5hot  Před 7 lety

      Its a 3.0 USB SSD drive, which has served me well for 3 years - I'm thinking it may just be approaching the end of its life cycle. Not the end of the world, its easy to replace.

    • @hendrik457
      @hendrik457 Před 7 lety

      Glad to hear it's easy to replace. Because of this episode are you gonna make more now or are you waiting till War Thunder fixes more things? If you are gonna play more War Thunder will it be AB or RB

    • @long5hot
      @long5hot  Před 7 lety

      Well, there's little point making AB videos as the mode is quite broken in its current form. And RB requires a time investment that I just can't make, due to the real-life pressures of having to scratch out a living for myself and my family. It really sucks being in my late 40s and not able to find a job, but I know I'm far from being alone in that situation.

  • @Wes5501
    @Wes5501 Před 7 lety

    you were saying about Gaijin and "the no relief from terrible ground strike maps in AB"....It's arcade.....and honestly, arcade sucks. i think honestly, Gaijin is more focused on RB and SB matches and that is the way it should be. More of the adult players play RB and SB. Yes, AB is ok, I guess for like......getting research points for certain vehicles.....but AB is certainly where I would not put my time and effort into.

    • @long5hot
      @long5hot  Před 7 lety +1

      Well of course, if you don't play the mode, you won't care about it - and your condescending attitude toward it is quite typical I'm afraid. However Arcade is where most people start out, and is still by far the most populated mode. If the fun factor disappears from Arcade, which it largely has, then that will not bode well for player retention or for the future of the game. Which is something that should concern you as I seriously doubt WT would earn a sustainable income from just its RB and SB populations.

    • @Wes5501
      @Wes5501 Před 7 lety

      Typical? I just don't enjoy playing with children....because it is a free to play game. I don't thing Gaijin is looking to keep their AB playing lowbies.....because they play for free and never pay for anything. To me, it looks like they might be looking towards their older players.....the players who play RB and SB and also who pay to have maybe a week at a time of premium....or even a day or two...based on how much they got paid that week at work. I do care about the future of this game. I love this game and it is my number one game that I do put time into. Because of that tho, I do put money into this game. I beg to differ with your opinion on your view of sustainable income from "just RB and SB population". I happen to know quite a bit of people who do put money into this game.....and not one of those people play AB.

    • @Wes5501
      @Wes5501 Před 7 lety

      Now also.....I only really mainly focus on planes. I also see you to have a lot of skill within the flying aspects of the game. I believe once you started and stuck with the RB and SB of the game....you will never go back to AB. I do sometimes, (play AB) only to play to low level friends. you have a lot of skill. now take that to RB. I'm only writing you still because I do have respect for you as a youtuber and a fellow player of a game i sincerely enjoy.

    • @long5hot
      @long5hot  Před 7 lety

      Well, this is getting rather anecdotal. I know a lot of people who've put money into the game, and who btw are adults and behave as such, and play Arcade - or did before the mode went to rack & ruin. Most of them left WT, they didn't switch to RB. You can count me as one of them (I've put more money into WT than I'm comfortable with). Its just untrue that AB players are all free-to-play leeches. Indeed, they're more likely to try to unlock and spade every plane for every nation, hence purchase premium and buy premium planes to ease the grind.

      @long5hot  Před 7 lety +1

    All i know is this, The yak 3 is still a fucking UFO. I was boom and zooing in my p47, missed the shot at a yak 3 who was in a turn fight at the time. Started climbing away at 800 kph, 15 seconds later the yak 3 was gaining on me already... That piece of shit loses 0 energy in a turn now. From full on dogfight to climbing after a zooming p47 in 15 seconds.
    I was climbing at 15 degrees and started from the same altitude he was at. so around 1000 meters. This game is still completely unplayable because of overpowered planes like the Yak 3
    This was warthunders last chance. Im fucking done with this steaming pile of shit of a game. It used to be great, but ever since br system was added balance has been worse than ever and never improving. Im uninstalling.

  • @dr.michaelr.foreman2170

    In my humble opinion, the British and Japanese tanks are pure garbage, with the British being the worst. At least Japanese tanks can kill something, whereas, the British tanks can neither kill anything nor do they have any amour. In other words, a complete waste of time and money.
