Just wanna articulate that I do think people who lie or break the law should be held accountable, including Mikayla! However, hold Jeffree to the same standard as Mikayla before you support him. I was following the cancer lady scam, honestly big shout out to gofundme, they gave the people who donated their money back from that campeign. They KNEW they were gonna lose money but did the right thing and gave these people their money back. Bravo! 👏👏👏

Gofundme is like the only 'fundraiser' site thats good. They know that like 90%of their users are for needed medical support. The founder of gofundme did an interview a while ago and pretty much said it turned into a popularity contest where the 'losers' die. Good on them to go this far in these situations

I really wanna address the Mikayla thing. It was not about just mascara, if she is lying about this product then her entire review catalogue is now called into question. It's a matter of ethics and disclosure, as she was in fact sponsored by Loreal to post about that mascara which she did not properly disclose. People weren't upset about the mascara itself, they were upset that they trusted someone to be honest and they were lied to. It's about consumer protection.

as a person who lost her beloved lifepartner to cancer, he worked till the day he died so he could afford pay for all the treatments,i feel sick to my stomach that there are people faking this horrible disease and using other people to gain money in the name of cancer. lets hope carma doesnt get you with this, because getting cancer isnt so funny when u have one and waiting to die. :( people are sick.
Perhaps her getting Karma and coming down with cancer is the best thing that could happen. It might teach her some humility. Many times, saying something bad happened when it didn't, actually jinxed themselves and what they lied about actually came and bit them on the butt. Even a false positive test could help to humble them.

I am undergoing aggressive active treatment for cancer as young patient. It makes me sick to see monsters that take much needed resources and funds away from real cancer victims and instead make profit to get rich at our pain and expense. I had barely anyone contribute to my Gofundme. Cancer org didn't want to help. They care about influencers only. Real cancer patients like myself are left to face poverty just to stay alive and not become homeless from cancer treatments and medical leave from work

My youngest son, who is 20 was just diagnosed in January, with stage 4 lymphoma. We are an absolute wreck over it. He still lives at home with my husband & I. The kid was never sick a day in his entire life, & started having pains in his lower back area, a few months ago, finding out he had large masses in his body. One on his kidney & another in his lung. They said it just must've happened so fast, that it metastasized. It's been the scariest time ever, in my life! He's actually handling way better, then any of us are. & he's the one going through it. I'd do anything in this world to take this away from him. Just so he wouldn't have to go through one more day of pain, or chemo, or have cancer, dammit! He does not deserve this!
It makes me so mad. People who could fake an illness such as cancer, in my opinion, really must have major undiagnosed mental health issues. It has to be a form of munchausen syndrome, or something. Because, if you really had it, it's the last thing you'd be flexing for clout. But some people starve for attention, fame, & money. She lied to recieve money. That's literal theft. So she deserves her punishment. & she should be made to work at a cancer hospital or something, help in assisting the patients with their every need. Maybe if she actually sat with, & seen what these patients go through while they're getting their treatments, she'd learn a little something. But that's just wishful thinking on my part!😘

Update on cancer girl as of November 2023: she has been sentenced. 100 hours of community service and she has to pay back a charity that gave her money.
That’s it. That was her punishment. Because the PROSECUTOR argued that she had good grades.
Was gonna comment the same thing, I have a terminal genetic condition and my ex husband lied about having cancer, people like this need more of a punishment. Have them volunteer at a hospice, or children’s palliative care ward… let them see the reality of life with a serious condition like cancer (or in my case vascular ehlers danlos syndrome).

Where I live judges DO take into account whether someone is a first-time or a repeat offender and also what their prognosis is. So if someone is a first-time offender and has a good social prognosis that indicates that they might not offend again (e.g. having good grades that allow her to find a job that will pay her money) could lead to such a sentence. Also, who said that the community service will not be in connection with a hospice or something like that? Where I live that would be completely reasonable and likely even. personally I don't think it's such a bad sentence.

As someone who lost their uncle to pancreatic cancer, that influencer who faked their cancer had my blood boiling. I'm so glad she got arrested.
Indeed! Besides the fact that all cancer sucks, pancreatic cancer is a special kind of evil. Incredibly painful, you get very sick and it often progresses really fast.

What's awful is that she isn't the first one. I was thinking "wait isn't this kind of an old story?" Because I was thinking she was going to talk about the wellness influencer a while back who faked a brain tumours and then flogged a 'cancer diet' that she said had replaced her treatments. People literally died while on her diet because they believed her when she said her tumour had 'stopped growing'. Her name was Belle Gibson.
As an actual cancer survivor, I’m not appalled by the fact that she lied about having it, but I am appalled that she asked for money for her ‘recovery and treatments’ when that money could have gone to people who needed it. Serves her right 😒

If influencers or celebs are getting paid to talk about a product, they HAVE to disclose it's an ad VISIBLY, mainly by doing #ad or #sponsorship or w/e in the first bit of the description. If it's hidden/hard to find, that is not allowed.
If it's an ad, it's obviously not going to be "honest", but it is required BY LAW to say it IS an ad.

I agree . It called truth in advertising and just because you say everyone does it doesn’t change the fact it is wrong and in some cases illegal. Plus the callous way she chose to not address it speaks volumes about her character and how much she truly values her followers. The Makalya issue is that it was a paid advertisement for the mascara and she didn’t disclose it and then flat out lied about it. From what I hear it’s actually a decent mascara, but not life changing.
The main issue is she’s getting paid to sell us these products, she’s breaking the law by not disclosing it and then lying about its performance.
Allegedly 😉 she also puts on filters when reviewing foundations.
Any influencer getting paid to advertise a product and being deceptive should be held accountable.
The loophole is she’s an individual and there are no laws regarding how these individuals promote these products, or any stipulations regarding transparency. That’s why these companies pay them to advertise.

The thing with makayla, or however she spells it, is that its not just about the false advertising with the false lash, its that how she did it actually broke the law here in the US. The FTC has laws in place about how to disclose ads and she broke at least one if not more of those laws.
Yeah I get that, if she did break the law then she should be held responsible but the thing is, no one knows if she broke the law or not because she never admitted to anything!
I find that most advertising in America breaks the law! Think about how for years everyone thought it was okay to smoke and how heavy it was pushed on the society. The issue with her post aside from if she is wearing falsies or not, is that she tried to hide the fact that it was a sponsored ad. She didn’t make it obvious that it was a paid partnership until after everyone called her out for it.

The only gripe I have about the whole Mikayla situation is the fact that she didn't make clear it was a sponsored ad. There have been handfuls of influencers who didn't properly portray makeup products and they have been called out for it. I've just never seen a reaction this severe.

The young "lady" who faked cancer is a student at the college where I work, as the person in charge of the mail room. I can assure you that this girl did not need the money as she lives in a very influential part of our area, and, as someone who has to manage all online purchases being delivered to the students, her name, when she lived on campus, was very familiar to me.

Knew a guy years ago who lied about having cancer. He was actually just a drug addict. People put on a benefit concert with a bunch of bands, raffles, tshirts and all that. Raised a bunch of money. Someone volunteered to take him to the cancer center to give them the money for his treatments or whatever, and he literally walked out the back door with it and took off. Didn't take long for the bands and fans to find out and he went into hiding. He ended up catching someones boot to the face, instead of jail for it.
The problem with Mikayla isn’t that she put false lashes on for an ad, the problem is that she blatantly disrespects other people who are doing CZcams videos on her that she doesn’t like. She revealed super personal stuff about her Boyfriend, claiming she wants his life to be private, but shared personal things to defend her case. I am sure there is more to her that we have yet to find out, because I don’t really like how she treated youtuber Rich Lux. All he did was make some drama videos, and she says “I hate you” out of nowhere

I'm honestly confused why some people think it's okay to fake illness. Cancer is a serious thing. I watched a loved one slowly waste away because of lung cancer. Seeing someone you love slowly deteriorate to the point that they can't even speak, sleep or eat properly is painful. So painful that in the back of your mind, you would just think that death is better than suffering everyday with no hope for a cure. I hate those kinds of posts so much.

There's definitely worse people who get cancelled and come back (Social Repose, Jeffrey, Trisha, etc) but I definitely think that when your entire career is based on giving "honest reviews" it's reasonable to be cancelled for being dishonest and not addressing concerns. My mom passed away from Cancer in 2018. I send my book sales money to my sister to pay off her part of the funeral fund for her and my dad. Seeing that lady infuriates me cause I was struggling with selling books and she instantly gets money for faking cancer. So jacked up.

Respectfully, it isn't about the mascara, it's the fact that she lied and jeopardized other influencers. And the fact that she can't even come on camera and apologize is a huge lack of accountability that I don't mess with. Cancel culture doesn't exist for some people unfortunately, like you said, but people HAVE been cancelled before for a plethora of things. Do I think she needs to be cancelled off the platform, no, but I do think she needs to address this situation before it destroys her credibility completely. It's also a bit frustrating to see influencers/youtubers acting as though it isn't as serious as it is, and I wish some of y'all will stop dumbing it down to "it's just makeup". It's okay to not always be neutral in every situation, Charlotte. The people who enjoy your content will stick around even when you talk about the difficult stuff.

If things like this are just let go and ignored, we are essentially ENCOURAGING companies and influencers to make false claims and fake results to sell products. That should never be ignored. @@kiayadeaver The FTC has laws in place about how to disclose ads and she broke at least one if not more of those laws. I think that's what has people more up in arms about it. Do I think people should be giving her more attention no, but I also don't think we should be turning a blind eye to blatant law breaking.

Confronted the friend and he left and never spoke to us again. PEOPLE SALE THEIR POSITIVE DIAGNOSIS PAPER COPIES AND HE USED ONE.

It is a scar. Multiple doctors have come out and explained every question about it. The ”white line” is some of the cotton getting stuck in the rough/dry edges of the scar.

So, not only was what she did ethically wrong, it was illegal. And Lo'real happily fed her to the beast called the internet and laughed about it all the way to the bank. Her coming back "unbothered" only makes her look worse. In fact, she's not "unbothered." She's trying to save herself. If she admits what she did, that's an FTC fine up to $50,120

Not sure why everyone is so up in arms about the lashes, seems must be looking for something to be upset about. My lashes are long, curly and invisible without mascara; but with a good mascara, people ask me if they are fake. I have not ever even tried fake lashes but try lots of mascara and a good one does make a big difference.
