As a business owner, it's important to stand up to entitled influencers. It's not fair to force your business on people who don't want it, and it's not fair to take advantage of small businesses. In this video, I'm sharing my thoughts on the article and what business owners should do to defend themselves against entitled influencers.

Hi, I'm Charlotte Dobre. I'm an actor, reactor, singer and sometimes (not really) comedian. On this channel I do reactions, commentary and occasionally I make a joke or two. I love poking fun at social media, weddings, entitled people, tiktok and OF COURSE petty people. I upload daily, usually 7 days a week, unless life gets crazy or I get lazy. Come hang out, it's a good time.

I had an "influencer" who wanted to use my artwork for her "branding" and pay me in EXPOSURES LOL. I'm NOT an artist who is " just starting out"...I have paintings in several galleries, my art has been used by over 2 dozen recording artists for their CD/Record covers/posters etc. and I even have pieces in Museums. So when I declined the "influencer" USED MY WORK ANYWAY....When my agent sent her a legal notice stating copyright law " Copyright infringement can carry criminal penalties including imprisonment for a period of up to 5 years, fines of up to $250,000.00, or both per violation." She took down the material. STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS .

I am a professional tattooist with almost a decade of experience and I HATE ‘when I get those influencer types in my dms’ I literally have a copy and paste message for them. Like it costs me to do the work, it costs me in electric and heating and rent for my property to work from, my licence and insurance that’s before I even count the price of supplies like needles and ink and cling film and kitchen roll etc, but people will still ask me to do it for ‘exposure’ like I have almost 10YEARS experience I do not need exposure. For my very small wedding last year, I was able to get a discount on my wedding photos. I didn't ask for one. I did go through thier portfolio and I genuinely loved thier work. I was honest about what I wanted and was honest about willing to pay for the work. Because I did my research, the size of the wedding, and did not try to haggle, I was offered the price of a graduation shoot. It was half the price of a wedding shoot. I was given not only beautiful pictures, but also got a video of the ceremony which I never insisted I wanted. I have had no issues referring others to the photographer. I also had no issue tagging the photographer either. I even made it clear I was willing to pay for thier time if they wanted to attend the rehearsal so they could plan thier set up and find out what the priest would allow in form of filming locations. My offer to pay for that extra hour was declined. The moral is: Don't be entitled. Working professionals have bills too. If you cannot afford it, then don't ask and prevent them from taking a paying job.

    • @maurer3d
      @maurer3d Před rokem +7

Wedding pricing on photos is usually based on the assumption that he/she will need to bring at least 5 assistants to help with the wedding. Small weddings usually only need 1 at most. Which is why you got the graduation price. Also, most photographers add a Bridezilla/Groomzilla tax based on your first meeting, you obviously passed the meeting test.

He was a master plumber, and it took him years to achieve that. He had a wonderful boss who paid for his training because he considered it a good investment, and he was like a son to him. I was always impressed by the work he did, and very proud of him.

"No, they're really not my thing, why?"
She didn't respond. Turns out, *rather than pay me $, she sent me some crappy little 'coloring book' somebody made on 3x5 index cards.
I'm disabled. I *try* to survive off less than $1,000/mo (rent, electricity, water, food if I can afford it, not much else). I sent her btwn $300/$500 worth of jewelry ( *if* charged her what I sell them for at market. I didn't expect anywhere near $300/$500 from her, thought maybe $20~$50 or so? SOMETHING?!? ANYTHING to show her appreciation & cover my costs?!? (again, SHE asked for the jewelry AND said she'd pay (from the jump) to cover all the materials and shipping but 👎! All I got was a crappy little coloring book. Not so cool!
It'd be one thing if she gave me the option but why is it she could financially support the crappy coloring book small business owner but not me? Maybe the crappy coloring book person owed her a favor so she just assumed she'd trade one favor for another 🤷🏻 still... NOT COOL!

Not only did I pay $ I didn't have, to send her jewelry, I told her I didn't really care for coloring books (I'm an actual artist, I don't really enjoy coloring in people's crappy drawings) yet she still sent it; in lieu of much needed money! I missed out on some really beautiful creations because I couldn't afford them at the time and OTHER PEOPLE PAID FOR THEM. I finally had the money and he had posted a new painting and I snatched it up; buying it because his work is worth it.
I received it in the mail and excitedly showed my husband. He asked what I paid, and he commented that it was a great price, when you factored in his time, the supplies, packaging, etc.

That job application 3 months sounds familiar.... When I tried to get out of disability I made use of a specialized temp work agency for people with disabilities after I was kicked out of a regular one who first really wanted to find a job, then crisis hit (2008) and 6 months after being taken in to be a temp worker I was "unreliable due to my status of disability".
The second specialized agency found me a data entry job like I wanted and I applied to the company who would hire me after the guy I talked to discussed with his partner. It would be for just 4 h but hey it was work. Note that I was doing re-schooling to become a pharmacy technician and our disability office paid for that. I had a great contactperson who thought the same about stuff as me.
So then I got the news that the partner said there wasn't enough money to hire me but they had come up with a great solution. (Enter sarcastic mode)The disability office has this arrangement where employers who are interested in hiring an employee can do so for 3 months without any payment for the employer. One would still be fully under disability so no risk for either the employee or employer. The catch is they HAVE to have the intention to actually hire the employee and offer them a job of all works out well after those three months.
These employers though found it a great way to get me to work for free onder the umbrella of "experience" and said they would be hiring me *if the crisis would be over in 3 months and they had the money for it. If not I wouldn't be hired ". Conveniently these three months were in the summer when less people and more work would be a returning issue for more companies than just them. So they essentially attempted a form of fraud to which I did not agree. Not just because I hated the entire idea of misusing something so positive really for such a bad idea. Also I explained to this person who worked at the agency that if (when....) the economy wouldn't lift up I would not be hired and I would have to explain to future employers IF i even put it in my resumé that I wasn't hired to do a job for 4h a week. It would look bad from every angle. If I told them the idea behind the scheme it would also look bad because it showed I sas willing to commit fraud. The agencyperson was angry at me for staying it that way and said it would be a great opportunity for me.
She never convinced me. This came on top of her trying to get 5000 euros to do some non relevant training program. My disability office was as skeptical as me but after this trick he was not amused. He told me he liked my initiatives but to let it go, focus on my education and rather expand my hours at my volunteerjob that would have some overlap with being a pharm tech regarding handling costumers and being detailed and careful at my job. The agency was dropped of the list of reliable agencies (many were sketchy and I managed to find a new one) and I also never heard from them again.
I think they didn't like critical thinking people who weren't willing to entertain their moneymaking schemes.
I did my traineeship and got my job at the same place 9 months later.
Sadly I am on disability again, for the rest of my working life of necessary, but I am allowed to find work if I can. But dang. They were true vultures because they knew they had a vulnerable group who had issues finding a job as most employers don't like hiring anyone who was on disability and they misused the trust put in them. Luckily my employer was all for people who managed to get out of disability and was more than willing to give someone a second chance.
I managed to work for 7 years and then I kind of fully collapsed. Which is sad but I just can't anymore.
But that one in the video gave me flashbacks to abusing people and systems meant to help folks get back on their feet and all they see is dollarsigns. Yuck.
