It’s true. Any kind of work is difficult when dealing with depression. Be it professional, housework, or even self care. These people playing “I have it worse” don’t help anyone, they just invalidate and make depression worse. They’re allowed to complain ofc, but geez don’t make it a competition.

The point of that is that before one had kids, it was possible to have a little nap when night sleep was bad, get to bed earlier, sleep longer on weekends aso. Take days off when sick, really cure in peace. Most parents need to work perfectly, fever and all. That's really a whole other level as you can't just ignore and neglect your child as you'd ignore work or doing dishes. Before I became a parent I didn't know I'd be sleep deprived for two years during nights and waiting for the time I could do naps in the afternoons. I'll have to wait for a decade for that but when the time comes I'll nap every. single. day. Has nothing to do with being better or stroking ones ego, it's pure envy😝 I wanna sleep so badly🤣

The “influencer job is hard” is something I totally get - is it the hardest? No. But that doesn’t mean it’s not hard. Anything with long hours is exhausting. Anything self-employed is exhausting and stressful - especially if you also have employees.

    • @Analaya749

Difference is how important that job is. An influencer is the least important job I can possibly think of but they get paid thousands, millions a week-month for doing the bare minimum for society. They’re more harmful than they are helpful. Sure they help people pass time in their free time but they’re doing absolutely nothing in reality.

Ngl I think everyone who got on her about and has been attempting to demean her Job (its the least important job....They're doing absolutely nothing in reality) was actually the ones being tone deaf
Like its not easy to gain success as an influencer, and the ones making that much are a minority - people kept posing it as if influencer where making millions instantly. Entirely because your competing against everybody and anybody with a smartphone.
I get so heated when people demean and look down upon others jobs and imply they're just lazy when they say its hard. I've had people look down on me for being in pain working as a teenager, when my job was standing on my feet for hours at a time (both people in question where adults who sat down at their jobs all day)
When someone says their job is hard, I don't care how hard your job is to you you don't get to condescend to them and tell them to shut up

    • @thecoolgrandma7208
      @thecoolgrandma7208 Před rokem +3

Hmmm.... not real familiar about the job but giving it some thought: a new influencer needs to probably work hard to come up with interesting topics/subjects to get the masses to subscribe. This is probably without getting paid to do so..... So probably working a "real" job to get a roof and food. Ok.... now the the girl people are bullying, she has what millions of followers so now has sponsors so is now at the stage where she is making money for being an influencer (but she didn't start there; because let's face it, if it was that easy there would be tons of people making money as influencers). She can quit her "real" job but is she really large and in charge? No, because she is kind of employeed by her sponsors. She is held to her contracts and what they expect of her. So trying to balance her topics based on what her followers lean towards to keep her followers/subscribers, what her sponsors expect her to promote and having to show up at their events, and balance her life/free time. Not to mention all the other behind the scene stuff the other young gentleman mentioned that he does for his videos such as editing and what have you. I expect it can become time consuming and hectic at times.

I also have many health problems. I had stage 4 terminal cancer at 4, was given a super high dose of radiation, which shrunk the tumour but also destroyed my insides. From then I went on to have irradiated organs, causing a condition similar to crohns & ulcerative colitis at the same time. I got a stoma bag, then had several years of serious surgery on my intestines , my kidneys and bladder. I was then given a second stoma bag and also a drain in my kidney called a nephrostomy, I then had a hip replacement! In between all this I still got myself up and went to train as a midwife. I found I I have kidney failure too, I have had 11 miscarriages, 1 being a stillborn baby girl. I get sepsis approx 7 - 11 times a year. I’ve also just found out I have an auto immune disorder and thyroid problems. I have intestinal failure and so my food doesn’t absorb, so I need a nurse to come at night and connect me to IV fluids and also a special feed with calories as well as another infusion of IV vitamins. I had IVF and recently discovered the hospital had mistakenly destroyed 10 embryos from my partner who sadly is not here anymore. With nothing they can do, they’re gone! I could literally keep going. So I appreciate everyone has the right to have a moan or get fed up, but when someone sits there saying she’s been working since around 9 and she’s just finished at 5.09, I thought she meant am. She actually meant PM. Wow, so she worked till 5pm. I used to work shifts 7am - 10-11pm and do it all over in the morning. We do essential jobs, but you don’t see us being given thousands upon thousands to just use a particular product. I just wish they wouldn’t compare their lifestyle, to a ‘normal’ person! I am promising anyone, I would swap my life for hers any day. We have same mental health stresses, but having a multi million £ bank account would certainly help.

Agatha Christie wrote in her autobiography about the moment when writing became her job not her hobby. She never had problems coming up with ideas but the work of putting them on paper and making them make sense was harder once she had to produce on a schedule and not whenever she felt like it.
I think it is similar when you are creating sm content. It becomes much harder when you have to figure out what got the most views, not what you want to create because it interests you.
Ms Christie was stuck with Hercule Poroit who annoyed her more and more over the years but her public loved him so she continued to write about him. In the same way it must be exhaustingg to try to find a new way to cover the same ground over and over.

Or on the contrary, when I was in highschool I had to wake up at 5am every morning to go take the train for 2 hours and go to school. To this day I don't know how I did it but I did and still got good grades cause I was used to my schedule at the time. People need to understand that even if you only work 4 hours a day then that becomes your maximum and so working 5 hours will seem like a lot.

When you are a public figure as big as she is people expect her to be genuine & trustworthy., to be as kind in real life as she is in videos. She is very young to navigate this sort of lifestyle. Her followers bought her $3 million house. She needs to appreciate that. I’d love to see her get some career counselling & coaching so she can navigate being such a popular person. It’s a lot for anyone but at 24 you need a bit of help. She’s dealing with Senior Directors of companies but she has no corporate experience & that’s ok. Hence her need for some help & educating. She clearly feels pressure to perform & sometimes we all need a bit of support & expert advice with our work. BUT no matter how you package this. She put out a false & misleading review. That’s not ok. With fame comes responsibility & she let the team down. Us genuine creators feel the hit for this. It’s disappointing & people are hurt. Let her learn & do better. She needs career guidance & clearly some psychology to work through her issues that she has bought up recently. Such as her depression & perhaps poor time management. It’s an opportunity for growth. Demand better but be kind. You never know how people are coping behind the scenes. Xx

But I kept getting attacked physically b/c my empolyer refused to hire enough staff to keep clients & staff safe. I'm super petite, it was all bad. AND I MADE JUST OVER MINIMUM WAGE!!! Like $2 over after my BA. Plus changing diapers, moving clients w mobility issues, having no resources etc.... Ya, no.
Now I work in a factory. 7-3:30 so up by 5am. I kinda/not really make enough to almost live. I'm lucky, I get to leave work at work. But my job is SUPER PHYSICAL. For the 1st time ever I have to make sure I'm eatting MORE calories. I kept dropping weight, getting dizzy at work, headaches
I get that creative work IS WORK. It's hard to never turn off. It's hard to consantly self promote. It's hard to be that driven & focused. I couldn't do it w art- altho to be fair people care WAY more about youtube & tic toc than oil paintings lol.
BUT: This girl is still priviledged and tone deaf AF. While in college I worked every crap low paying job EVER. Waiting tables, phone centers, retail cashier, Chuck E Cheese, office work, cleaning hotels, changing diapers- done it ALL. IT SUCKS!!!
Getting treated like a slave sucks. Dealing w Karens who think they own you sucks. Getting up at the butt crack of dawn sucks. Getting paid sh^t sucks. Sexual harrassment sucks. Bosses who want to micro-manage EVERYTHING sucks. Cleaning poop sucks. Going home exhausted & hungry while making barely enough to EAT sucks.
This girl has MONEY. No boss. She can CALL OFF W/O GETTING FIRED. Even my current job doesn't care about doctors notes. She doesn't have to risk her life driving in 3 feet of snow. She doesn't have to clean poop & pee. She doesn't have to slap herself awake otw home so she doesn't drive off the road. No toxic coworkers. She has fans who LOVE HER. Haters too- but so do we all. She has her own place, no going home to your roomates/parents/inlaws. If she has an appt- she can just GO.
And again- THE MONEY. I sometimes have to think- do I risk driving on fumes or do I skip lunch? I'm one emergency away from debt or homelessness. My medical insurance covers almost nothing. I have medicines I have to save for EVERY MONTH. And if I had kids .....
Like C'mon, yes she has a 'real job'. Yes I'm sure she works hard, and it's not easy. And she has alot of skills & talents.
BUT SHE IS SO PRIVILEDGED & LUCKY. If car breaks down she can fix it. She can go to the ER w/o crushing debt. She has a beautiful home- including the 'old one'. She can afford treatment for her mental health issues. She can TAKE A DAY OFF!!! She can afford to have SOMEONE ELSE cook & clean- FOR HER!!! She can hire people to edit for her at this point!! She can buy clothes & makeup w/o worry. She has all the latest tech- on & on.
Most of all she has a safety net. Most of us don't.
I'm sorry but I don't feel very sorry for her. Yes life is hard. But she has resources to help her most of us can't begin to dream of. Most of us are on our own.
She needs to learn to read the room. Sorry for rant lol.

She has amazing artistic skills but is struggling to market her work. She lives in a regional area where art is not valued and does not have the resources as a single mum to move elsewhere. She has a few friends and loyal customers who she does commissions for every now and then for a few hundred bucks if she's lucky, but nothing she can depend on as regular income. She has so many large canvas paintings but really struggles to sell them, even at less than $100. I can only imagine what it's like living as a content creator in the public eye all the time, and especially when you're suffering from depression. I'm a fiction writer in my spare time, have been for over 10 years, and I rarely let people see the things I write; I also live with severe ADHD and bipolar disorder. Those things together is a horrible mix, because no matter how much you want to create, no matter how much imagination and how many ideas you have, sometimes you just can't get it out at all. Sometimes, even thinking about having to do that thing is the worst thing and I'd rather write an essay where everything is structured and organized (though I don't like that either on some days.) I can only imagine how it would be for me if I had been a published author with high expectations and constant pressure of spewing out content, only to then get harassed and ridiculed by the masses because they don't see your pain as actual pain. I hate how society feels the need to 'justify' your well-being. Why do we need a 'real' reason for being depressed/tired/anxious/overwhelmed? Why isn't it enough to say 'yeah I'm really tired and this is really hard even though I love it'?
Prime example; a close relative of mine passed away a week ago, and one of my first thoughts were ''Oh, great. Now I have a reason to be exhausted and depressed that people will accept'' because me being bipolar and having ADHD isn't a real reason. That's how stupid that entire rhetoric is. Bear in mind, some of these influencers had a ‘normal’ life beforehand and suddenly they’re known across socials when their audience hugely grows. The transition between being a ‘nobody’ to a mass audience knowing you, must be hard because your life is suddenly on display and open to criticism. You have strangers commenting and messaging you all the time. Positive and negative.
Unlike celebs, these influencers don’t start out with agents to guide them. I understand why she must be suffering from her mental health. You’re suddenly a brand and it’s so personal. I wish her the best she seems very down to earth and ‘normal’

But you do because if you don’t you risk becoming irrelevant which intern for influencers is detrimental to their income. at least for those of us who do work a traditional 9 to 5 we can call in sick and still get paid for the day. Influencers do not have that luxury. I think this opens up a bigger conversation about people in the public eye.
Yes your job might be hard at times and you are aloud to think that and feel that.
But I think it’s still important to be aware of how privileged your job still is. You get to pick your own hours, have lots of travel and experience opportunities, not have to work for someone else and be your own boss.
I think it also partly comes down to us as the viewer. Without us watching, liking, commenting and interacting with influencers content then they wouldn’t be where they are. If no one is watching them then they aren’t making any money.
Why do pro sports players, influencers, actors etc who are making millions and millions for what. I’m not saying they don’t work hard at what they do and that they don’t put time and effort into it.
But how is it that a TikToker doing a 15 dance clip or something like that is making more then someone in the healthcare space. Or someone trying to fight climate change or anything else going on in this world.
We put these people on these pedestals and they make millions but what about the people out there saving lives, or helping out after a hurricane. Where are their millions.
But again we put them there. We helped create this society imbalance.
It’s really all about taking a look at the bigger picture.
I took a class in college called the Sociology of Fame. Why do we idolize celebrities and what effect it has on society. It’s really eye opening.

People literally just want them to shut up and look pretty. If as a society we valued having huge hearts and doing for others than people like Mother Teresa would be the famous one not Marilyn Monroe, I mean at least that Nun wasn't having an affair with our very married president and his very married brother, then stalk them until her death. Like the great iconic sports stars back in the day were uneducated and were promptly taken advantage of for that. Same with actors. What changed were laws protecting them from being basically owned outright by their employers. I would say that we need more laws protecting ordinary people too. I've been depressed for over half my life by now. last year I was in college with only 4 classes in my schedule (so about 12-15h of class a week) and wasn't working a job. everyone around me kept telling me how lucky and privileged I was as if I had the best life. it just made me feel even more guilty for the fact that I was just as exhausted as when I had 8-9 classes in my schedule.
there's a difference between complaining that you "have it so hard" when you don't (which is entitlement) and simply stating how tired you're feeling (which is... literally how you're feeling, so it's valid). it's also important to keep in mind that depression and most other mental illnesses do make every single task seem extremely hard, even simple or easy ones. just because someone is an influencer doesn't mean they can't get depressed, have a hard life or struggle with work.

If I'm depressed I can't take a week off and then resume my job. I don't have brands handing me free PR to aid me in my job, or sponsoring my vacations. Hot take: I don’t think it actually has anything to do with how hard the job is. It’s about the intricacies of the relationship between the audience and the influencer. Influencers primarily make money by selling the audience’s attention through brand deals and ads. Each audience member’s attention has value that they give to the influencer. When the influencer complains, I think it can feel like an attack on the value of their audience, even though it’s obviously not.

I also see where Mikayla is coming from. When you’re working towards being an influencer, it takes a lot of work ethic (esp when you’re trying to keep up that momentum long term.) I can see why for some people, being an influencer is a real hustle. For Mikayla she probably wasn’t an overnight sensation, it was likely years worth of work that payed off overtime. I can understand that filming content and editing is a lot of work. I’m not even an influencer, but the times I had to film and edit my videos, took a shit ton of effort. From the outside it may not seem like it, but it drains the fuck out of you. Another thing people ignore is that being an influencer is also hard bc there’s a ton of commentary you have to deal with. You have to put your mental health at risk and develop thick skin. I hope Mikayla doesn’t allow the negativity to get to her. It’s not a one size fits all situation… there are shades of grey. I’m gonna leave it at that :)

Even if an influencer is lazy, and finds their job hard. That's OK. But I think the tone of delivering how you feel makes the biggest difference. It's like when someone has a broken arm, and the person next to them is in a full body cast of all broken bones; it doesn't mean the person with a broken arm only can't feel the pain and complain about it. It's just again a matter of the tone and delivering it. I think complaining the way Makayla did is where she went wrong, heavily. I have no doubt she gets fed up and hates the job sometimes. Like majority of us, we all do. It's OK to feel that way, she just did it terribly and she's seeing the repercussions of what she said - as she should, putting her word out there it's up for commenting by the public.

She just wanted to vent. If being an influencer was so easy then why don't all the people wailing about how easy it is give up their terrible jobs and become and influencer? Why can't she complain to her audience? They want to feel as though she's their friend (as weird as I find that because it's a person who won't ever even know you exist but hey) so your friends do the same things weekly. No one is forcing them to 'influence'. I do a job that I love, and I am freelance, I will say my job is easy BECAUSE I love it, because I choose my own hours etc. The job itself is hard but I would never consider it so hard that I have to complain because of all the perks that come with it. I'm glad you're picking this topic up. I think a lot of the general hubbub about it was just a vicious cycle in mutual lack of empathy.
Everybody runs into situations in life where they might feel burned out, where they might suffer terribly emotionally and physically, even the richest and most sheltered of people who technically never had to lift a finger to feed themselves. No matter who you are, chances are, if you do have the spare mental space to look around you, there will be someone who has it worse than you. Does that mean your feelings of being burnt out or suffering are invalid? No. Those feelings are real to every single person respectively. And it is okay and healthy to vent those feelings from time to time.
HOWEVER, and that's a big however, one should pause a moment and reconsider who you are venting those feelings to. Again, no matter how tough your position in life, chances are there will be quite a few people who will feel they have it worse and thus will perceive your venting as entitled. You just lost your beloved dog and are grieving? Of course you are, it's understandable. Dogs are like family members. But maybe don't chew somebody's ear off about it whose actual beloved parents just passed away. You're suffering a mean cold and your head is killing you? Damn, that sucks, I'll happily make you a tea. But maybe don't whine too much about it in front of someone who's just started their chemo. You feel it's terrible how heating costs increased? Of course, that sucks. It may mean a significant hole in your pockets. But it's also understandable somebody whose house was just bombed out and for whom winter is now an actually existential fear, will shrug their shoulders and advice you to wear double socks to bed. You get my drift?
If you put yourself out there - which btw. super brave, I could never - publically on an app that millions of people of all walks of life use, many during their short breaks while working awful grueling shift jobs just to make ends meet somehow... it is kind of a given that a significant amount of viewers will consider your - absolutely valid to you - complaints as entitled whining, and from their point of view they are also not wrong.
Now, I do not believe that being a successful influencer or content creator is easy by any means. At the end of the day you are your own product, you are self-employed, and every outcome of your business, no matter if good or bad, falls to you. Your views and subs stagnate or even drop? You have nobody but yourself to blame, and I do believe that this creates tremendous psychological stress and will drive many people to overwork themselves (some really seem to run on just 3-4 hrs of sleep) and burn out. I have a slightly similar experience from the side lines since marrying my husband, who has been running startups for the last 15 years. If you don't hustle, you'll just sink like a stone. Something like 'time off' or a fixed sleep schedule doesn't really exist. When an opportunity rises, you better take it, cause it most likely won't come back. It's fun and invigorating, because you are your own boss, yes, and because what you do is what you chose to do, yes, but 100% of the responsibility of failure and success being on your shoulders alone can absolutely weigh very heavily.
I could never, frankly. If I wasn't with him I'd much rather push my 9 to 5, where even bigger f-ups can most of the times be smothed away by admin and pr somehow, where i clock my time, faithfully get my money transfer every month and am left in peace once I go home. And I really worked some shitty jobs, the worst being shifts in an insurance call center where you would be basically yelled and cursed at 8 hours straight every day. I did plenty of night shifts too cause it meant more money. It was awful. Still if the question was something like that or starting my own business... I'd again go for employment. I'm just not cut of the cloth to bear that kind of responsibility, just like my husband is not cut of the cloth to be just an employee. Both my job and him being an entrepreneur are tough occupations, but guess what, neither of us would be able to opt for the other's way to make money.
Do I think her complains about being burnt out were valid? Of course, because I am sure to her it was that bad in the moment.
But did she chose a good platform to vent about it? Nope. It was bound to seem tone-deaf to countless people.
Is being an influence/creator a harder job, or being employed? Well, that really depends on the person, doesn't it.
See, if she was suffering so much from being an influencer, there is an easy remedy for that, throw the towel and find a job.
Similarly, if being an influencer/creator was that easy, why isn't everybody quitting their job and doing it then? Hmm? You need to be ready to take the financial risk and be ready for the grind with a minuscule chance to rise to the top... that's also far from easy, because else, again, everyone would be doing it.
And no, it is not okay to bully anybody over something like this. Have some empathy, even if it came across as entitled to you. See it as what it is, somebody needed to have a venting session, like we all sometimes have to have one, regardless of if there are people worse off than us (spoilers: in 99.99% of cases there always are).
