What a legend. 🔥
Literally Mentzer
Mentzer trained him then he won his first Olympia
Literally not. Dorian trained nothing like Mentzer's moronic ideas.
@@Pyryp2 You're also wrong. Dorian took many Mentzer's advise and his training method was highly influenced by Mentzer's Heavy Duty system
@@filmanowski So why did Dorian use several times more volume than Menzer recommended?
@@Pyryp2 I said influenced, not idenctical.
Short Intense Workouts Only to Build Maximum Muscle. Dorian was my Favorite bodybuilder!💯👍💯
Well said, Dorian 👍
Love this guy
Total GOAT
Mentzer actually told a story of how he train Dorian in the mid 90’s
Totally agree, cause you grow outside the gym 🏋️♀️ 💪. Plus, you have to stimulate, not anialate (Lee haney) ,and my personal favorite "You have to use the muscle to work the muscle 💪 ". Peace out.
Mentzer was right
Yeah but not one body part every 10 days or some mental garbage he was selling books too the average lazy office worker at that stage
And every other lifter was wrong, huh? I don’t think so… Greg Doucette and Mike Israetel are right.
Who where the biggest and best bodybuilder of all time? How did they train? I don't think mentzer and yates come even close in that discussion and their methods where defenetly not the best.
Also this video is out of context yates is smarter, he knows. Even mentzer admited that HIT is not the best training method for hypertrophy.
People who still train like that use it as an excuse to not train hard because they don't know what mentzer meant with high intensity.
He certainly wasn't wrong
@@drakeheeley5995 nothing speaks for him to be right though.
And every bodybuilder that trained that way is now dealing with debilitating injuries. While volume guys with reasonable weights (Jay Cutler for instance) are physically fine.
Like who?
Well good thing it's their life and their choice to sacrifice future health to achieve forever greatness. Ronnie Coleman isn't complaining so what do you care?
@@willmach I have great respect for Ronnie, my point it's not necessary to destroy your body. Coleman would have looked the same if he never trained below 12 reps, and he would have greatly reduced his risk. Look at Dorian Yates, he trained the same way and his body is destroyed also. It was a mistake made starting with Mike Mentzer that propagated for decades. Now we know through many studies that muscle gain is independent of rep range, in other words 1-6 rep, 10-12, 15-20 all produce the same muscle growth, but higher reps greatly reduce injury chance and severity.
It's always been about intensity. No matter what system you're using, if you don't do deliberate controlled intense training, it's all for nothing. I hurt my back last year. I have just returned to training a few months ago, and people are like man "You are so genetically gifted you are getting it back fast." When the truth is I just understand how to train and eat. There is no secret even if you use the secret sauce. You still have to do A and B to get C.
Great podcast
He was massive
Mike's prodigy!!!
What does it do for your joints
It’s all about how much volume is right for you and that’s what they should be stressing.
MENTZER!!!
Give it another 5-10 years and we’ll see when the pure volume dudes arrive
If sleep was a key factor in stimulating growth, wouldn't we be sleeping more and more every night? If food was a key factor, wouldn't we be eating more and more every day?
Or maybe we should sleep intensively for just one hour a night and eat food till failure once a day?
Or maybe we should stop thinking in absolutes and start seeing that key factors in muscle growth exist in moderation.
Both intensity and volume matter.
The Shadow has a way with words.
Dorian introduced the bodybuilding world to the effects of growth and insulin. REMEMBER THAT!
What?..he wasn’t the first & he surely didn’t introduce it...
If it wasn't him it would have been someone else..ppl actually think if Dorian never existed no one would have used that kind of gear and usher in the mass era ..that's funny
🤣🤡🤣 where do you get your information
You say that like it's a bad thing
52 sets. The science proved it.
Mike Mentzer
If intensity was the sole determinant of muscle size wouldn't we be continuously increasing weight until the top pros were benching and squatting thousands of pounds?
Stupid comment
Kreat bodybuilder
If sleeping helped recovery why wouldn't I sleep 24 hours/day?
If eating protein helped build muscle, why wouldnt I eat 100000 grams of protein a day?
And steroids. Don’t forget the steroids, hgh, testosterone, etc.
wow you’re really intelligent guy haha he just talk about exercise . Even a 15 year old kid knows to build that much muscle you need peds
Go ahead. Take what Dorian took, I'm sure you'll look just like him LOL
You ain't got the last one never will
Yeah a lot of steroids, but that’s completely irrelevant - the steroids don’t make his training easier, don’t make the dieting easier, don’t make the missed social occasions easier
@@domfellait's completely relevant. Without steroids he'd have achieved nothing.
Michael Gambon voice.
To some point he sounds like Tywin ✌️😄
You are my son !
12 pints o Guinness n fish n chips
I thought this☝🏻would turn me into Dorian Yates….I ended up like Eddie Yates!
Dorian Yates, still a decent size and healthier
The volume I've done in the past especially my youth was a complete waste of time. Absolutely 0 credit given for the additional sets. Just really sore joints and wear and tear on my tendons.
Training a muscle every two weeks sure is optimal
Volume works too..for billions..especially on legs
He didn’t say it wouldn’t work at all.
He said IF it was the key factor, then you would be having to KEEP increasing that volume.
He is just stating it’s targeted intensity that is key. You can get there with volume, but volume is just the longer way to get there.
@@jdawgb7642 no you would not have to increase volume just keep the volume at a level the body can handle period no need to keep increasing volume when volume is already high. Intensity stays the same there is still new growth either way you do not know much lol
@@seanlatterson did u even watch the video? YOU have no idea what you’re talking about
Nope
Facts , I’ve been training legs seriously for 2 weeks and I’ve been doing lots of volume , my legs are getting thicker and bigger now, of course increase weight and go till failure and then lower it and go till failure and then lower and do this till the bar is empty , I do this on a hack squat and my legs have gotten bigger
Volume doesn't necessarily mean longer workouts though. Volume is weight X reps/sets. You could lift I pound more than last time and that's increased volume from last time. No disrespect to Dorian though, I'm sure he knows this more than anyone, guys a legend.
That's more weight not more volume. Volume is how many sets generally
@@ruckerbrady8342 volume = sets x reps x weight, therefore an increase in any will result in an increase in training volume.
Mike came up with this first
Whats your point?
He credits Mike on Joe Rogan podcast
Arthur Jones introduced Mike Mentzer to High Intensity.
Mentzer theories were flawed, that's why almost nobody trains like he suggested.
@@domfella no point just saying
Nice rolex Daytona
Roids, test, trenbalone, orals
And medicins
Roids over work
Has anyone done a study on eating dogshit between sets though? Could be the missing ingredient in muscle growth! 😂
Foolish argument, like saying if we really need food to live why do we ever stop eating, no one argues unlimited sets , it’s higher volume to around 20 sets for most high volume guys and anyone that argues one way is the best or only way is arrogant and blind, we are all different
Same bullshit like mentzer. So if volume is not a thing, why Dorian added more volume in his HIT to the heavy duty from Menzer?
All comes down to the quality and the amount of shit you're taking
And if a half a set was better than a whole set I’d have done that too yeah….😂😂😂
Clock looks sheap
Steroids and 12 hours in the gym. Like Arnold.
Were they good thanks to or in spite of the hard training?
We've learned a lot of what they did.
Since then the sport has evolved enormously.
@@JCKeus-cx1wm They had high dedication and high precision towards their goals. If we are not like them we did not do what they did.
You're half right. Arnold's routine worked for one guy and that was Arnold
Arnold trained 2-2,5 hours, 6 days per week, according to Jerry Branium, who witnessed Arnold in the gym.
He speaks like mentzer
Volume works for me more then anything. Dorian also did a shit load of volume still compared to any average person he trained like every other body builder and did 2 to 3 sets and major weight ..he did not just do 1 set and go home
2 to 3 sets is pretty low volume compared to most bodybuilders
@@darklord220 he did not do anything considered low volume in reality he lifted hundreds of pounds just for a warm up and was also on steroids. Hit does not work on natural people volume is needed over a long period of time hit is a tool it works but not as a soul way of growing maybe if your on juice
@@seanlatterson That is literally not true. Maybe it doesn’t work for every single individual because it is true every one can be different.
However, there are countless testimonies of natty bodybuilders who this does work for. It is silly to say it can’t work for them when it’s even been scientifically documented.
@@jdawgb7642 it has not been scientifically documented and it does not work volume is needed for beginners it wont work for beginners he was on steroids sinve the beginnig never did hit without e,nense amount of sterpids which means all he says is bullsht for natutals sorry to burst ur bubble buddy but u cant talk about whats done off drugs when your arrogantlu on drugs and not even including it in what he says is dishonest stay with the newbie gains all u want
@@darklord220 he did about 5 sets of every exercise like everyone else his warm ups would KILL most men
It takes steroids. Steroids make it very easy to build muscle and drop fat, it makes it like ten times easier. It’s not that hard.
You don't have a clue😂
You have to be joking😂
90 % of people who use anabolics dont even look like they lift
Hahaha you bellend
10 times easier based on what? Everyone would be a Mr. Oympia then. 😂
😂😂😂😂 Just ignore the science Dorian. So as you increased the weight volume didn't increase. Total volume is the key
Low intensity training and give it all 5-8 reps pr set with heavy weight is hhe key. Doing a million exercises 15-30 sets i have done before, and did not increase strenght snd mass. I only weight train 5 times a week now instead of 7, and my results is much better
.... Why don't you go show Dorian how many Olympia trophies you one? 🤔
You clearly don’t know the definition of volume in the scientific literature
Lee Haney was scared compete with Dorian
They competed and Haney won.
Volume isn't the only factor. However, it's a BIG factor. There are extremes and diminishing returns with absolutely everything. But completely negating volume is the ALSO the wrong approach. Dorian's logic is flawed.
😂😂😂😂 its called gettimg stronger, intensity and volume are all trash. Focus on simple things and get stronger if youre natural. Now if youre on the secret sauce, then go ahead, pick a juice building program
So no intensity, got it.
Keep lying to yourself bro. Intensity and volume are definitely big factors
You sir are a goof and have no idea what your talking about
@Jmf2507 you can a great physique doing 2 sets a body part lol if you want some muscle and not a bodybuilder. That is all I want and I'm.always feeling fresh and workout daily
