- One of the first modifications I do with my cars is the Short Shifter. Getting more connected with the car and the driver controls is something that I strongly suggest when you are first getting to know a new car. Overall I am more than happy to do!

That second wiring harness was a backup camera install harness. I installed the Honda Fit backup camera on my Frs. This is the universal one that was from the 86 forum DIY.
That makes sense! Have been. Trying to find that wire that went to the camera 😅
been watching you for a while now and decided to look at short shifters and just my luck turns out you have a video on this one lol looks like I'm buying it
Worth itttttt 🥳🥳🥳
I installed mine a few months ago. Lived with it for 10k or so. Really did not like the feel until I added the rear bushing and front carrier bushing. it really cleaned up shift feel. Solid thunk when engaging gears and zero slop.
I ended up swapping back to the OEM shifter but kept the bushings. Wasn't a fan of the feel compared to stock. Now shifts are light and easy with very little slop, just from the OEM bushing where it connects to the shift rod.
Love the channel man! About to install a TS short throw on my STI!
You'll love it! Also appreciate the support 🙌
Smeedia I can’t wait and of course man! I just started uploading again, gonna strive to put out content that’s as qualitative as yours! One of my favorite youtubers for sure and I only found ya yesterday. Much love!
Bro your just an awesome dude great content 👌
Appreciate the feedback! Try to be as genuine and real as possible 🔥
@@Smeedia I hear that. I love how you explain everything so people know what to do and which route to decide going. I have a 19 wrx and your access port video was great since I almost have enough 💵 to grab one. 👍👍👍
Man that train is something else !
I'm so over the trains 😅
Very cool
When you turned the lights on, the front end looked reallllllyyyy excited lol
It got all happy inside 😅
Criiiiispy shifts...👌🏻
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Nice video. Just here to comment cause I think it helps the channel.
Appreciate the support! 😁🔥
I like when you throw stuff on the ground. LOL!
Also, its Torque Solution. No plural. I think its better sounding as Torque Solutions, but its not my company. Maybe they started with only one Solution.
Anyhow, cool video as usual. And I don't even own a BRZ.
Fun little part to add on to increase the driving experience, should be going back to some STI goodies next week. Almost done getting the BRZ up to spec 🔥 lol throw it all on the ground 🤣
Not hating, because I've done it, but maybe the 'kid' that owned it before you thought he was an electrician. My first car (2000 dodge neon) looked like a damn spaghetti factory. Now that I know better, my wiring looks soooooo much better. Also I absolutely hate those marker lights on the FRS/BRZ. I do collision repair and more often than not I completly forget those have to come off in order to take the front bumper off. Great video as always, keep up the good work. Wooooo!!!!
I think we've all done it and looking back on when I first started working on cars and my wiring. Ooooooof it was awful. And those corner lights can burn in hell 🤣 they never stay in!
so i don’t really need the dust boot? I also accidentally ripped mine out and am thinking about ordering a new one but is it okay to just put it back together without that boot?
a lot of people replace the stock reverse lockouts cuz they are made out of cheap plastic and feel cheap. Some cars have a problem with them rattling while driving too.
Good to know and makes a little more sense now 🔥
With the running lights your front end looks 100% like a smiling Raichu.
It's just always so happy 🤣
Cold morning shifts from 1 to 2 are typicly clunky in these cars
I was wondering if a short shifter would make this worst.
I've noticed it's a little clunky when cold but nothing worse than the OE shifter 👀
Upgrade to motul gear oil, definitely helped that
in order to fix the OEM shifter feel, the entire shifting mechanism needs to be changed out from cable to direct link with solid metal.
Any chance you can do a clutch bleed on either the BRZ or STI?
In the Perrin pitch stop brace I did one, but I can do a dedicated video to it in the future 🔥
I need your help.... with the shifter bushing that comes with the kit. There are two rubber washers.... do those go on the bolts for the bushing
Yes they do
You're talking about the 2 o rings that come with the bolts right? They look like spares for the one on the plastic bushing
Have you had any rattle noise with it? I used to have the ft86 speed factory one, which was just a buddy club replica, and it would rattle like crazy.
No rattle at all with the Torque solutions one, overall been really happy with it over the past few days.
I’ve had this too. I think my torque solution shifter is hitting the bolts that hold the reverse lockout
Did your shifter happen to come with two small o-rings? If so, where were they installed? I can't find any information/instruction and haven't heard back from Torque Solutions. I'd greatly appreciate it, hopefully it stops this terrible rattling. 😅
I don't think so 🤔 tbh it's been so long I can't remember but I don't think I had any 😅
@@Smeedia Thanks, I appreciate your response. It's looking like it's optional and goes on either side of the sifter along the linkage. Although the bushings on mine were so tight that the cotter pin is also optional. Don't think the shifter would come back off even if I wanted it to 😅. Thanks again.
I can relate to the mystery wires frustration lol I found some mystery wires in my WRX and I was not happy to find exposed wires just chillin' near the firewall.
Ended up tracing them back to fog lights, no idea how they wored it that way 😅🔥
I just got this short shifter installed at Subaru (throwout bearing went out so did whole clutch) and this shifter rattles a bunch. Is this normal? Did the tech do something wrong?
Mine never rattled I would double check to make sure everything is installed properly
Another commentor tightened down the Allen bolt in the center of the stud on the new shifter. This apparently fixes that
You do know the purpose for the Perrin reverse lockout right.....I just got one for my GD
Suppose to reduce "rattle" but tbh it did not fully engage and did not feel the best.
Found it funny when I got my car 2 years ago that sound was so annoying and I did everything from a zip tie to a piece of foam to try and stop the rattling and I just found just a few months ago about this, i was like where the hell was this info 2 years ago
So I installed this same shifter in my BRZ and I get a crazy rattle from what I think is the reverse lockout at like 4k RPM. Do you have this issue?
Never had that issue with mine, double check that the reverse lockout cable is not rubbing on the driveshaft
I actually fixed it. The shifter has a screw that you need an allen wrench for. I tightened it as much as I could and now the rattle is gone. 👍
@@JorgeOrtiz-vl1mf hey I just installed one as well and experienced the same issue (rattling around 4k rpm) which part specifically needed tightening?
@@reignerrrr0805 if you take off the shifter knob there is a screw on the top that goes down the middle of the shaft. You need an Allen key(not sure what size I used) tighten that. I eventually ended up switching back to the OEM shifter because I bought a new reverse lockout but was not compatible with the shortshifter.
@@JorgeOrtiz-vl1mf ah I see, thanks so much man! Will try it later on. Gonna see how long it’ll take before I go back to OEM
WE NEED BRZ DRIFT VIDS😆
Coming soon! Have to get the cars maintenance done before thrashing on it 😅
Did you have any whining noises? When I go into 5th and 6th gear it whines.
Some but nothing too loud
@@Smeedia for me it's pretty loud. Have you had any issues with it so far?
Sold the car back in December but for the year I had it on, never had an issue with it 🙏
Savagegeese did some forced induction work when the frs had just come out and after months of fab and professional mechanics working on it that thing was leaking oil so much he sold it. Scared me straight about the whole thing. I think itd be a fun track car to learn to drive and push your abilities but trying to push the car itself wouldnt be my choice.
I still need to take mine in for the valve spring recall so hopefully Subaru can take care of any leaks for ne if there are some
@@Smeedia oh no I meant the turbo kits leak oil. You should be fine.
The STI is feeling sad and lonely! When are you going to show the STI some love again bro.
Just took the STI last night lol, have parts on the way for it should get them this week 😉
@@Smeedia dope, looking forward to it!
Hey bro, what Gear do you use for the vídeos? Looking good
Saving Money for a subie 😂
Appreciate the feedback 🔥my main camera is the EOS R with the 15-35 RF lens, I use my girlfriends EOS R also with the 24-105 RF and my on the go camera is the Canon G7X Markiii
Some greasy ballllsss bro? 😂
Gotta keep em greasy 🔥👀
@@Smeedia oh fuck yeah. Good video today brother.
Ahhahaha
I think you transferred the dust boot up side down.
Pretty sure I did 😅
Probably line output converter and remote wire for an amp and sub that he pulled out before trading it in. Janky AF lol
Lmao I know right! It was ran half decent so i think a shop may have installed it for the previous owner
Good way to make more power is giant turbo fyi
Lol was looking into some turbo set ups
". . . a good omen. Ugh."
That was a mess wow
Slowly fixing the issues 😅
