    Oh my GAWD!! I have never had a movie take me from feeling SO annoyed to suddenly so entertained and creeped out. What an experience. And... there's something about Annie. (I can't say likable, cuz THAT she was not... but there's something about her performance in this movie that just enhanced the whole experience somehow. I dunno.
    There's something about a women in a terrifying situation, running for her life, screaming "c**ks in my face!" that I'll just never forget. I mean, how can you? 😂
    Who knew this was just the kind of EPIC, fun, creepy, gross, lewd, disrespectful, annoying, amazing found footage flick we needed!?!
    I'm pumped for whatever Rob does next.
    Great review, as always, friend!! ✌

    I'm only commenting because you mentioned that you were nervous to put out this review! I agree with you 100% I feel the exact same all-around about it! The ending was surprising, the shaky cam almost made my partner sick, lmao. I was shocked at the realistic bodily fluid moments! I was pleasantly surprised and had to just embrace the fact that, although I detested Annie, she was like a cockroach that kept toughing it out and I was just along for the ride. I liked the film more than I thought I would. Thanks for all that you do!

But was weird as the UK part was filmed in my home town and didn't know they had done that! Was cool to see. An pre dates Sam Menses new film that was filmed in same place but we were very aware of that filming lol. Keep on trucking Emma. Love the channel and content đŸ˜đŸ’œđŸ€˜

    So glad that you reviewed this! I'd been excited for it but must admit I'm a little on the fence about it now.
    It's interesting what you said about unlikeable protagonists - for me personally, I feel like it depends on the 'type' of unlikeability. If the story's good enough, I usually don't mind it, but I think Annie's particular brand of unlikeability is just something I've seen too much of the past couple of years and would just annoy me, haha.
    Great review, though! I always look forward to seeing your videoes and hearing your opinions :)

 At the beginning I thought this is the true representation of how pandemic drove people crazy. Annie was really despicable and edgy but true to herself. Pushing boundaries in others and herself. • @aramfingal
    @aramfingal Pƙed rokem +1

    I just watched this and I think it's incredible. The tone and everything worked for me. Not to sound too much like a pull quote from the 1990's but this literally had me going from laughing to cringing, to scared, to even crying as I followed Annie on her journey. I realized about half-way through after the scares started happening that a good way to frame this film is almost like a cartoon. Because, yeah, the first 15 minutes or so could be a rough slog, however, if you look at Annie, almost like an Elmer Fudd, or Yosemite Sam or something like that the whole thing really seems to work for me.
    Also, the incest thing was a throw away improvised "joke" at the beginning. It's not really a joke per-se as it's something the character thinks is funny.
    As to the "Why they are filming this." issue that found footage always needs to address during a lot of the action scenes. I believe, now I could be wrong, but I think she had, like, a go pro or something and it was attached to the hat. Which ties, I believe, into the metaphor which I'm still kind of unraveling in my mind (the hat was a MAGA hat which is synonymous with Tr*mp). This doesn't explain, why, at one point the friend puts on the hat, but I may need to re-watch this, since throughout, I wasn't paying attention to the chat (since it was saying toxic stuff that we, in America - perhaps everywhere, see too much of already on the internet).

  • @ndsmith7119
    @ndsmith7119 Pƙed rokem +5

    I've watched most your videos and enjoy I don't agree with a many of your reviews. But just watched Dashcam and TOTALLY agree with you. It's wild. And Annie for that first 20 mins...oof. But now watching your thoughts and thinking through it, I've turned around a lot on Annie and the excess of her stuff. I am beginning to really respect and LOVE the decision about making her too much. Almost like it was a challenge to grow to root for her as the stuff hits the fan (and the backseat. Mmm, nice). I'm still reeling from the whole experience, but that initial character choice is so interesting and unusual and rare in these films, as I say, I'm coming round to loving it more because she goes so far. We need more anti-heroes to the max and Annie is right up there. Total cult film in the making. Thanks for turning me around.

    You had the same reaction I had after seeing this one Emma. Yes, the horror aspects are excellent in this film but, because you will 'hate' the lead character so much, it will take away what makes this a good horror movie.

    I love found footage and I was pretty excited about this one since I really enjoyed Host. Safe to say, this was not at all what I expected. There were some cool moments but overall I did not find myself enjoying this. The main character was annoying to watch and I also thought that the camera was indeed very very shaky - and I am usually not bothered by that in found footage! This was just too much. I expected this movie to feature more Dashcam footage instead of it being a livestream. Regardless, enjoyed hearing your thoughts!

    I just watched it! I enjoyed your commentary on it. As an American, I honestly wasn't shocked by the views expressed by the main character... I don't agree with her at all, but it was all totally in line (and I mean - barely exaggerated) with the attitudes of the edgy alt right movement. I live in a pretty conservative area, and have met people like this. Again I *DO NOT* support these views, but I do think it was interesting to see a character portray them since it's not something that's been done before. Because, let's face it, they exist. It felt very of the times, I suppose.

    I just watched this blind and was both repulsed by some of it and still very hooked. I know people like Annie in real life .... I think this cartoon version of her is actually easier to deal with than a more banal but realistic version would have been. In fact, her character is pushed so far, it's compelling. The things I would have changed: (1) cutting down a bit on extended hyperactive shaky-cam scenes (a little bit of that goes a long way) so that we can see more background detail; (2) a bit (but not a lot) less of the gross-out stuff, and (3) allow Annie to add more to her character and views. I appreciate that they didn't back off: when they rammed two different kinds of stories together here, they went full-bore all the way. The ending feels both too abrupt and yet perfect.

    I really enjoyed “Host” from a cinematic enthusiast but I almost enjoyed dashcam more so which is SO odd to me lol. The humor and the bodily fluids are kinda iffy for me “some” is good but it’s easy to over do. I think it’s weak point were the politics and her as an actor bc it had to play into her (most likely bc she hasn’t done a lot of acting. Just from what I’ve seen). It’s short but the pace was so greatly set it made it feel like an hour and 40 lol but over all I think I enjoyed it so much bc it’s so different and off the cuff in it’s own way. I’m still a found footage fan. I’m just a good movie fan despite the genre or sub genre! Love the review, very executed and informative!

      Sony a7 s2. But look into your lighting first, it’s not as easy as just getting a good camera and turning it on you have to do your research and find what suits you.

    I watched Host this week and that was really short too. There's stories of one UK cinema chain banning Dashcam for being offensive, but they've since denied that was the reason it was removed from their schedule - My local cinema is a different chain and has cheap showings for members Sunday eves, Mondays and Tuesdays - so I'm waiting for Sunday to see it (their reward scheme means I get to see this one free too). The couple in front of me actually walked out halfway through Men - so God knows what they'd have made of this by the sounds of it (how Men is a 15 and not an 18 amazes me though.

    I didn't had any kind of expectations about this movie.. And damn, what a ride and nice surprise!
    It was really viceral on some aspects. Annie? Well.. that's how she is, and somehow she deserves everything that happens to her on the movie.
    I really missed those kind of found foutage movies like Rec, were the actions so present and always keeping you on edge. RVery good movie, loved it a lot :)!

    Annie Hardy of Giant Drag?! Whoa. I grew up listening to her music in that band. This is super trippy that she's in this and that she's not supposed to be likeable in this. I'm seeing Crimes of the Future premiere tonight but I might have to come back home straight after to watch this! Thanks and congrats on your wedding.

    The movie was way better than I expected. Annie will for sure be a divisive character but the actress did a great job, even if she's playing an exagerated version of herself. Also she has great comic timing, I would find myself laughing out loud in the middle of a very tense situation because of something she screamed out. Thanks for the recommendation.
