SPOILER:
DON'T OPEN IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT!
So basically when I was younger I watched the Oprah interview about Charla Nash, the woman who was mauled by a chimp. If you know me well you will know my only fear is chimps and monkeys (yes I know they are different). That interview changed my life and gave me a lifelong fear. Both Oprah and Charla are hinted at in this film. Oprah when they talk about getting an interview, and Charla who the woman who does get mauled by Gordy is dressed similarly as. Chimps combined with aliens are two things I believe to be my biggest fears. How wild that they are combined in this film?
Love this thanks for sharing I guessed the alien but not the chimpanzee fear! đâ€ïžđđŒ
The chimp scene was scary but not the scariest for me. The scene that has stuck with me for two weeks is the one that touches on my fear of being eaten alive. That one 10-second scene made me feel so uneasy and sick I almost had to walk out of the theater for a break. I loved this movie so much and so glad you got to see it early!
Exactly my thoughts as well. I remember seeing that Oprah interview . He even included the face covering as well!
I watched the same interview!!!! So creepy watching it as a young child. Itâs scary to watch but you also canât look away.
Itâs like Jordan said imma take every Spielberg film and pay homage to it.
Aliens for aliens sake are not explored enough in horror!! When I was a kid I remember laying up at night, staring at my window 100% convinced that I was going to be abducted. I was in love with the fact that this movie explored aliens and made them scary without going super action/adventure.
We def need more alien films!
I was obsessed with daniel &kekeâs acting in this! 10/10 I felt like they were real people.
As someone who drives through the filming location pretty frequently I havenât been able to stop thinking about this movie especially when I see a cloud roll in lmao this film is definitely gonna stick with me for a while!!
I walked away from this film just blown away. My boyfriend and I drove home talking about all of the different subtleties and themes and how we both agreed it definitely needs several watches to pick up on everything. I also walked away wondering what exactly about it scared me, because I was definitely unnerved and uncomfortable afterwards. But I wouldn't really call this a scary film. However, there are 3 scenes in particular that I thought were terrifying:
- The scene in the middle of the film. It's hard to talk about it without spoliers but I'll say it's very closterphobic and when you realize what is going on, it is terrifying
- the fist bump scene
- the house during the storm
I know I'm being vague but I'm trying not to give anything away. But man, those scenes and images have stuck with me.
I often wonder what defines horror, I think being terrified in multiple scenes over scared throughout works better for me! It keeps you on your toes
The first scene and the full version of that is one of the most terrifying things I've ever seen. So unexpectedly scary because of the relastic nature of it.
You should watch the interview on Oprah about the case itâs based on đ„Č
@@spookyastronauts oh shit. Watching now đ€Żđ€Ż
Iâm looking forward to seeing a spoiler review or discussion about this film. Really want to hear your thoughts on certain scenes and characters.
I donât think Iâll be doing a spoiler one, Iâve got my schedule already packed⊠Iâll see how much people want one.
@@spookyastronauts I think you should! As you said: "There are layers"!!!!
Omg! Yes please
If you have time đ
@@spookyastronauts Please I would love your spoiler review! I just saw the movie today, and ooh my....I loved it.
Heâs 3 in 3 in my book! So goood! Keep up the great work Emma!
đđŒđđŒđđŒ
Yes, I can't wait to look up this Oprah interview! That little tidbit of information about what movies inspired Nope was amazing! I definitely guessed Jaws and Close Encounters. The cameraman in the movie has such Rob Schneider vibes - it was awesome! I hope you do a spoiler version - so much to unpack đ
I love how original this movie is! The location where this movie was filmed looks like my momâs hometown in Nevada. Nope wasnât filmed there, it just looks like the town. You actually drove very close to her hometown during your visit to Nevada. We have family in Alamo, Nevada too. I noticed you were driving through Alamo in your Area 51 video!
đœ
So interesting because Sarah Hawkinson has the same fear and mentioned how triggered she was in her review too
Yessss! đŻ
Oh wild I didnât know that
Yes immediately said the same thing!
@@spookyastronauts me either đ
I heard another reviewer say it too
These "homework"-movielists are always super interesting to hear!
Yeah I agree!! Gives some real insight
Emma, your enthusiasm is contagious! I can't wait to watch :)
Thank you!
Nice interview there Emma. I can see the similarities between Jaws and Nope as that was going through my mind when watching Nope. A very effective and different take on a sci-fi film
Thank you!
This doesn't come out in my country until next week, I'm so excited! And so cool that you interviewed Brandon, I was thinking his jumper was amazing and then you commented it lmao. I think he might be a new crush for me when I watch the film...
OMG Emma, you got me so excited to see this film! The whole interview with Brandon was awesome and all I kept thinking was where can I get that sweater! Lol! I was happy when you mentioned it! Also, you mentioning Joe Bob Briggs was awesome! I would stay up on Saturday nights, in the 80's and watch him. I watch him on Shudder now. When I seen the trailer for Nope, Keke is wearing a Prince shirt from his 1988 concert, Lovesexy. It was my first Prince concert. Many more would follow, but I just thought I'd mention it! Lol! Well once again, great video Emma! Take care my Aussie friend. All my best đâ€
So glad I get to start my morning with this. đ€
đ„°đ„°đ„°
Over anything, I experienced NOPE as one huge love letter from Jordan Peele to the classic cinema of Steven Spielberg; JAWS, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS, RAIDERS, DUEL. Several shots or scenes were lifted directly from JAWS or CLOSE ENCOUNTERS.
Unfortunately it couldn't hold a very small candle to any of those films....
so happy you liked keke's character, I've heard some people complain about how annoying she was and all i could think of was it couldn't be THAT horrible... also i hope you get to do more movie/tv cast interviews in the future, love the way you do it and the questions you choose to ask... maybe a peele version of the flanagan video??
Thank you! Yeah Kiki was the star!!! Iâd love to do a Jordan peele video, I just need a few more films!
She was super annoying throughout the entire film, wasn't a fan of the film at all, wasn't a big fan of "Get Out" either, "Us" was really good though..
Wow! Congrats on your interview - hope to see more stuff like this! I haven't seen NOPE yet but you have made me make sure I see it when it's out. Thanks heaps, stay safe!
Another interview? That's why I love this channel. Quality and content on point!
Awwwwwwww snap!!! So awesome Emma!!! Congrats on the video and finally being able to release it! Iâm hype, Iâve only heard great things!
Thank you so much Tanner
Hi Emma! Iâm a long time subscriber and Iâve never commented before until now.
Just wanted to say I love your channel and Iâm jealous that itâs winter in your neck of the woods.
Itâs the middle of summer for me here in the States and itâs miserable.
Anyway, thank you for these videos! High quality horror movie content is rare nowadays so Iâm definitely appreciative of your channel!
Keep âEm coming!
Thank you so much!!! Our summer broke so many records this year so Iâm so glad itâs cool right now, dreading the next round! I really appreciate your comment! Thank you Derek!
I've seen NOPE 3 times and still like to go back and watch reviews. I loved so many things about this movie but one of my favorite things is how Keke realistically went from a confident, self assured extrovert to a very frightened girl when they first see the ship. She did such a great job acting that out. I loved OJ's quiet personality, which typically happens when you have a sibling like Emerald that takes the spotlight.
Going outside and seeing bright blue skies will never be the same, I will now be scared for life đđ
Emma....you always get me so psyched to see these gems!!!!! Your reviews are always spot-on!
It's great how you keep interviews focused on the film and the art and not about the fandom and fluff. You rock and set a fine example of quality independent content. Cool beans!
So very exciting! Still havenât seen it, so Iâm running away for now. But congrats on the early screening and landing that interview! Jordan Perle is definitely a young master and I canât wait to see what everyone means when they say âitâs not what youâd expect.â Or something like that. Iâm plugging my ears now!
BRANDON đ, i love when a horror movie gave me a new "boyfriend"
Bahaha dreamy eh
I absolutely LOVED this movie. Everything about it. It checked every box for me and there was a different scene for me that played on a huge fear of mine. I always am afraid something will fall from the sky and kill me. Loved the interview at the to. Angel was a great part of the film.
Seeing this on Saturday! So excited! Well done Emma â€ïž x
Love your channel and reviews. I just finished watching NOPE in the cinema and it definitely is something that stays in your head. It combines genres and really keeps you on your toes. I guessed the fear you mentioned without reading the spoiler and seeing it referenced in this film...WOW! (the fist bump gave me chills) Spooky stuff.
Great review and interview at the end. I also liked his sweater
Hi Emma! Amazing video, I always look forward to your take on all things horror!
I watched Nope in a relatively empty theatre this evening. Me and all 7 people in the theatre stayed after and were chatting about our perspectives and I recommended that they all check out your channel to watch this video. I hope you have some new Canadian viewers coming your way âșïž
Another great video!
thank you for your review Emma!
Thank you for watching!
Really excellent interview! It's fun to see you as excited as I was when I first watched this. Jordan done did it again. Can't wait for horror number four!
I'm originally from quite close to Agua Dulce where this movie takes place (my dad actually lives on a ranch much like the one in the film), and this movie is also such a love letter to LA and specifically the outskirts of LA that are less privileged but make the glamour and privilege of LA proper go round. Like, the electronics store they go to as a real life LA institution, and their logo very famously is a 3 dimensional UFO crashing into the building.
Emma! Great video. I love your enthusiasm for film. Makes me feel normal for how weird I get about movies lol. I may have missed it in some other update, but why the delay in this review?
Itâs not out in Australia, because I was allowed to see it early I had to sign an embargo.
@@spookyastronauts Makes total sense!
Wow now I'm excited for nope, great seeing you walk to the cinema too!
NOPE might just be my favorite Jordan Peele film. It was near perfect for me; the sounds, the cinematography, the actors, the horror, but also the beauty of aliens.
Cannot wait for your spoiler review discussion of this film, I feel like I know âthe sceneâ youâre referring to. Iâll just say this.. claustrophobia was hitting me hard! Love Peele and this film certainly grew on me after
Saw it Sunday, truly excellent film!
Great interview, Emma! Canât wait to see this movie, havenât yetâŠ. :( but I will soon! đ
Thanks for the review, Emma. I have seen "Nope" and overall, I gave it a 7/10. Jordan Peele is an amazing director and I love how he took some unexpected elements and gave us a truly scary story. No spoilers, but I will say what got me scared was the cinematography and the sound design. Sometime, the audio alone can be even more terrifying than the visual. Also, I loved Lucky!
I think it's pretty clear that Jordan Peele is a fan of The Twilight Zone. I'll even go so far as to say that the "Mirror Image" episode must have been an inspiration for "Us". With that logic in mind, I figured that the Twilight Zone episode "The Fear" would be an inspiration. Obviously, that's not the case, yet I would still recommend that Twilight Zone episode for its "scary aliens stalking people in a rural location." "The Fear" is a season five Twilight Zone episode.
Finally, congratulations on the surprise interview with Brandon Perea. You've earned your reputation as a great horror supporter/critic.
Ahhh such a great review!! Amazing as ever Emma!!!!
Thank you!!
I really want to see this one. Love Jordan Peele! So cool you got the interview!
Thanks Julie!
Hey there Spooky!
Thanks so much for posting this amazing review vid w/o spoiling the entire movie for us. Writing this from across the channel in Belgium and my "Secret Preview" is this Friday at 20h and through twitter got a chance on 2 tickets to go watch it! Ever since that very first poster i was definitely all in for this new Jordan Peele movie đż! I asked on socials why July 22nd wasn't the worldwide release date for everyone and unfortunately got an answer back that with the dubbing for the french and Italian etc.. part the EU release date would be mid August. which is ridiculous if you see that Disney's (US HULU) Prey movie got international release on the same moment. Plus the NOPE social media embargo was lifted just 2 days after its US release, meaning that everyone as a JP fan really HAD to get off the internet where the plot was discussed!
I'm so happy that you were blown away by it and i am SURE the same will be for me and my friend coming along this Friday night.
Add: We always watch the English language version, without dubbing but some people seem to need subtitles with their movies so I honestly thought that was such a huge mistake to not release it at the exact same moment though.. CAN'T WAIT! And join in on the discussion later! Saw you had an unforgettable time and that makes me even more excited for Friday! Friendly, Spooky Greets from Ostend, Belgium. And please keep up the amazing work on your channel, cause i'm such an huge fan of yours.. F.
Us is my favorite horror movie of all time! Strangely enough, I was going through a rough time when it came out, and I legit watched the film 9 times in theaters. It never gets old. Jordan Peeleâs demand rewatching. And Us rewards you every time.
I need to find Brandon's jimper/ sweater đđâ€ïž
Great video review!
Looking forward to seeing it soon !
Please tell me if you do!
Gr8 review w/o the spoiler!!Ive been leaning on the fence with this one but you have convinced me to see it!!Thankyou for your quality!!
Oh def check it out in cinemas while you can!
I dig it when you're Totally Stoked about a movie...it's infectious!
Wow! Iâm excited to see it now. Another (spoiler free) review I watched was less enthusiastic, calling it the weakest Peele film. The subject matter interests me, and I was sort of obsessed with aliens and strange phenomenon growing up. And scared by it too. While I doubt Iâll be scared now, I look forward to watching something that makes me think. Thanks Em! đ»đ©đ»âđ
BTW, nice interview you scored! Youâre big time now đ€©
Thanks J. :)
Waiting anxiously for this one, letting your review for later, since it only premieres on August 25 around here and I donât want to know anything about it.
Love your reviews.:)
i loved the human inside to to the UFO plus ofc the monkey scene - a lot scarier than i expected
Emma, the cold open in the film was the most terrifying in the film for me. I was a zookeeper for 15 years, and Iâm well aware of the potential of Gordy. Plus the real incident in 2009 was the clincher for me. That entire thing sat with me for days after seeing the film.
The genius of Jordan Peele amazes me ! Third time he has knocked it out of the park! The elements of all those âhomeworkâ films spoken of were mixed in there. Love this film â€ïž
So glad you enjoyed the film! Totally agree
Hey Emma - so glad you enjoyed the film too! I was a little surprised you didnât speak much about the cinematography in this one. I was blown away at how great this movie looks - especially the nights scenes. It is really beautiful to see it on the big screen.
I did talk about the fades but I didnât think it was too flashy just beautiful sweeping landscapes!
Hey! Just coming back after seeing the film twice! Seeing it on the big screen (before I saw it in a very small theatre)⊠I really appreciated the night scenes⊠i think that escaped me the first time I saw it, although I did note down âsilverâ but didnât mention it in my video. Thanks for pointing this out
@@spookyastronauts cool! Now Iâm jealous - Iâve only seen it once so far but Iâm trying to get to imax this weekend!
Get Out doesn't have re-watchability for me, but it is one of my favorite movies ever. I loved seeing that one in theater.
just watched this recently and it was really original way different that I thought it was going to be and I really liked it.
Glad you enjoyed it
finally! so glad you loved it, haven't watch it yet, running to the cinema rn
Hope you enjoy it!!!
I was spooked and anxious during the first half of the film especially. The killer chimp right at the start really threw me of kilter and that's the way I stayed until the Spaghetti Western ending.
That scene that you are scared of was really well done. That was a hold your breath with out realizing it scene for me. And then he introduced her and showed her in the scene. That was really great.
Can't wait to see this movie. Great review awesome surprise at the end.
omg Brandon!!! love the outfit đ
đ„°đ„°đ„°
Just here to leave a comment lol. Nope will be out on August 17 here in the Philippines. It sucks to skip all my favorite youtubers who posted their reviews. I donât wanna spoil the fun. I know Emma does a good spoiler free review but still đ
What an awesome opportunity!
I heard someone say the ending felt a little weaker because the middle of the movie was so strong and I do agree⊠but I still loved it.
The entire film was weak....
Ohh this is so cool!!! Nice surprise đ
Loved the movie, even more after a couple of days thinking about it!
I can't believe it took me this long to see it. I finally saw nope tonight and I have to say I thought it was brilliant. A friend of mine had seen it at a drive-in. I guess a while back when it first came out and he told me he didn't like it at all before I started watching it and I said you know what let me just give it a try well I'm happy I did because I thought it was unique, creative brilliant the acting the special effects the creature at the end, when it opened up and flourished was almost beautiful.
Haven't watched the movie but I heard there is a little side plot about a monkey, and I'm terrified of monkeys. ( if they r bigger than a cat )
And that doggo of yours, is just.... đ„°
Damn thatâs annoying kind of a spoiler for you
seeing it this Friday on opening night in the UK, with my partner; I am SO HYPED!
Hope you love it!
Hope you do a deeper dive spoiler review and discussion
I saw this at the drive-in and I was worried I that I wouldn't get the same effect as in an indoor cinema. WOW was I wrong. If anything it just made the movie more impressive to me. There were a few scenes that I can't get out of my head. The fist bump, and the very claustrophobic scene in the middleđł
Excellent đ
I plan to go see this movie đ„ soon hopefully đ
I'm probably seeing it on Monday, hopefully. đ
Iâm always up for Jordanâs projects! Angel was close to my favorite character. My son laughed when I told him I loved the character in the theater lol
He was the best haha
I put off watching this until I saw the movie. Great interview with Brandon!
Your guest's sweater image looks like an animation here on YT called Felonious Bolus
One of my favorite movies of all timeđ„â€ïžđ„â€ïžđ„â€ïž
I just saw a preview screening in Adelaide tonight - Absolutely LOVED IT!!!
I get why people wouldn't find this their favourite, but out of Peele's 3, this one had me the most intrigued and drawn in.
Yeah people keep asking in what order I like them but they are all so different!
@@spookyastronauts Keep them coming, I say! Regardless what order I would rank them, they've all been fresh, fun and original! In this day and age, that's (sadly) a rarity between sequels/reboots/prequels!
Looking forward to the next Peele outing!
Emma I honestly thought this film was terrible!,get out was great,us was alright but this fuck me sideways keep up the good stuff đŽó §ó ąó „ó źó §ó żâ€ïž
Re Brandonâs jumper; I donât think itâs exactly the images from the film, but it immediately took my mind to le Voyage dans la lune from 1902. May be a reference to that film?
Even though I knew what was going on with the main plot line, very early on, it didnât take away from enjoying the movie.
I hope this gets Michael Wincott more roles, as I havenât seen him in an interesting role for awhile.
I can definitely see the influences of all of those movies Peele recommended to watch after having seen it. I definitely felt like this was my least favourite of his movies but there was still so much to like, and the horror elements were truly unnerving!
What a fun surprise!!! :)
Thank you!!
This movie was filled with little gems to let us know what was really going on. I like how he says "It's not a ship" because that got me thinking about the bug that landed on the camera and the "ship" flying around. Also that creature design was pretty cool too especially when it opened up.
I loved it, mostly because I love horses!
Wow I would not think this was for horse lovers, made me sad for horses if anything
I think this movie is absolutely incredible. I am so lucky I got to see it as a staff screening so I could see it again the next day. Honestly, it was genius the 2nd time around. Onto Bodies Bodies Bodies! (Which Iâve also seen at an A24 screening and highly highly recommend).
Definitely watching this
Enjoy!
@@spookyastronauts OMG
I've have seen the movie and enjoy all of Peele films. Believe it or not my family and I have moved to omg a horse ranch. Not as big in the movie but still and can you believe I always look up at the sky. Because of that movie, Nope truly scary đłđłđłđł
Wow, that's so cool you were able to talk with an actual actor from the film how exactly are you able to contact them or do they contact you? I'm sure this video is so old I won't really get a reply, but I would be curious to know, I think it's amazing.
Depends on the video, but for this universal helped me out
NOPE is one of the greatest films ever. If you don't get it you need to rewatch it.
I put off seeing it for a couple of days because I was worried that my expectations were too high, yet it still GREATLY exceeded them. I swear this movie got me high it was so good. Kind of similar to Hereditary in that regard but in a more positive and uplifting way.
I want to say that although it doesn't give off strong *horror* vibes, the thrill of this movie is strong and hits my emotions like an effective/good horror movie would. Peele is simply a master and I'm really glad you loved it too đ
Iâm so happy to read this, sounds like you had a great experience
Yh , I seen it once, but cannot stop thinking about it, I think he may of made a masterpiece
Happy Wednesday đâ€ïžđđŠđđŒđ»đŒđżđčđđ
I feel like Shyamalan would like this kind of movie, especially with all the detail to ominous little messages throughout....or wouldnt he?
wow i saw this movie i guess it was over my head
