It makes me sad and a little angry that you feel the need to apologize for liking a movie. We have the freedom to like what we like. I love your videos, even when I don't agree with you! Thank you! ⚡
The world sounds scary when you have to apologize for liking a horror movie.
It's a good movie, love any new surveillance-horror movies
7/10
2 finger snaps WTF LMAO
I tried watching this movie for 20 mins nothing happend NOTHING just the protagonist goofing around and vloging , nothing interesting atall
@@pralayaryan Should have watched 30 mins
I hated it but can appreciate some of the horror elements in it were amazing. Couldn't get past Annie's character making pee pee poo poo jokes while horrific shite was going down
Yeah seriously
Literally butthole jokes while innocent people are burning to death 💀
Lol, well said
Lmao
I think it’s an interesting choice to have a main character that many viewers won’t find likable. It’s a different kind of vibe to say a movie like drag me to hell where I think we’re supposed to root for the lead.
She was the most unbearable character I've ever seen. I think she even beats out that kid from The Gallows
😂
🤣🤣🤣
I found her fucking hilarious 😂😂😂
Yeah I loved this. There are so many FF movies where the whole thing is buildup to like, one interesting idea in the last 5 minutes. So I love when I find one that goes absolutely nuts and doesn't let up.
Also when rewatching it the other day I noticed a cool reference to Host in her BandCar comments:
"Remember that thing with the girls last year? On Zoom?"
Aah i didnt catch that!! And yeah, i loved it too
One of the scariest movies I've seen in recent years, but I've never rooted so hard for a main character to die.
i think i did more in wallys wonderland
@@fifi8690 where can I see it for free??
@@fifi8690 Ha! I mainly just wished he'd speak or have some sort of personality
Well by your profile picture i can see why you hated her character.. keep that mask on
@@FirstmaninRome 123movies!
While I understand that Annie’s character is supposed to be a bad person and annoying, it made this movie insufferable to watch. It’s not really her political/social views, it’s her cadence and humor. (I like her music so no hate toward the real Annie!) Found footage is my favorite genre of horror, so I can praise the gore and some of the set pieces, but just because the movie knows she’s intentionally annoying, doesn’t make it easier to watch. Also there really isn’t a plot to follow along with, and despite being called Dashcam; there’s about five to ten minutes total of actual Dashcam footage, so I’m confused why they went with that title… apologies for being so critical, but this just pulled from all the better found footage outings I love to make itself look like a better movie. This was a hard miss.
Also, a little spoiler… the scene with the married couple was so jarring and out of place in the midst of all this ridiculous slapstick carnage. It felt mean spirited and added nothing. It made me so… sad? Icky? Idk it just wasn’t it.
I laughed so hard when she covered the bride with the white sweatshirt :) and i didnt see bothered by that car accident as much as i did the whole feces scene.
interesting to read how people react differently!
@@Littlekitten_ admittedly I laughed too, but it was more in disbelief! It definitely adds to how comically terrible the main character is but I could help but feel utterly terrible after watching that guy burn alive
100% agree
You're right
It’s so interesting to me how Annie is basically a more extreme version playing herself, and was ok with being in the film. I wonder why she’d accept the role and take such a large part In The movie
This movie didn't need an annoying main character though, it could have been 10/10 if it was a relatable main character. I genuinely think this was kind of a waste of talent? Because the movie IS good, except for her. Like it's an enjoyable horror movie, but it could have been so so so much better and more grounded in reality if they just made a normal character.. The "edge" of her character is nothing but annoying, like I get it. But the movie was literally ruined by the main character and I "get" why they did it, they just didn't need to. *shrug*
5/10 for me
I don’t want a relatable character. I’m over the goody two shoes. Give me spice
@@corybess221 that's not what I'm saying, you can have a spicy main character that's relatable and not a complete and utter annoying pos lol
every horror movie has the same relatable person .. like host for example… this character is different 🤷🏻♀️ im sure directors get tired of writing the same crap … you want another hot college girl in a horror movie? Or a female in distress ?
@@Littlekitten_ SHE IS UN FUKING BEARABLE. Totally made me turn it off. You can be unique character and still have some elements that the viewer wants to see you win. I had NOTHING for that main character chick, too bad
This movie caught me off guard. It was an absolute blast, bonkers, bloody, and ran at a fever pitch. Despite Annie’s obnoxiousness, I found her hilarious and was laughing out loud throughout. She is very much a hippie-ish conspiracy theorist type in real life, but she seems to have a good heart IMO. For what it’s worth, she has openly been an indiscriminate drug addict for years, so I think that explains some of her quirks to an extent. Her band, Giant Drag, made some great indie rock albums in the 2000s.
love your video! would love to see video where you give your personal insight on the "top 10 scariest horror movies according to science" and maybe even do your top 10! :)
Well after your description of the main character this is one of the times I’ll be rooting for the horror villian or whatever evil entity 😂
Normally I would agree if the horror villian/entity wasnt just as goofy and moronic
I absolutely despised the main character of this film, but still enjoyed it nonetheless. I definitely agree that it was a wild ride, kept me guessing the whole time. I was surprised at first that so many of my friends had rated it so low, but then again, I know the politics can be hard to look past. Thanks for the review 🤗❤️
you're such an inspiration ily
Thanks for the review, you're honest with your reviews, now I know what type of films you like.
I didn't particularly like Host, and this film doesn't really sound great; I think I'll be giving this a miss. Thank you for giving an honest review 🙂
The word is "amazeballs". This is a very good example of what a good movie should be in that everybody hates the main character and yet everybody really likes the movie. She's a gigantic crass, obnoxious a-hole but she is so much fun. Also, there's really not much representation of a-holes in movies that are worth watching, so it's only fair. I have been watching a lot of really good (old and new) movies lately, but I can't remember the last time I had this much fun watching one. I only wish I could've seen this at the theater. Probably a bad idea in terms of motion sickness (just like with every other aspect, they really went crazy with the shaky cam), but man I would've loved to see this with an audience.
I’m going to try watch it this weekend. Love that you enjoyed it so much even with such negative reviews!
I wanted to suggest a tv show called Brand New Cherry Flavour, its a bit older from last august I think it got released on Netflix, it's more of a supernatural horror but I think it's really different and unique haven't seen anything like it before its definitely something to check out.
Been seein this movie pop up a lot lately. Dope review. Gonna give it a watch tonight; had no clue it was so short.
I really enjoyed this movie! Good performances, new cinematographic shots, a dynamic plot... A breath of fresh air for found footage.
Horror is about trauma. The unlikable main character challenges the audiences biases and assumptions that we need to like or agree with someone who is being victimized onscreen. It also points out the political battles going on in real life that make a portion of the audience cringe with disgust at the main character's viewpoints and a portion that agrees with her.
Good point
She’s very much not unlikeable . I freakin adored her
@@oheymario says a lot
You make an important point but it's the opposite of what you intended. She wasn't traumatized at all. She suffered nothing. Her sociopathic hate and disregard for anyone left her untouched by the trauma. This made the whole reality of trauma seem more like a nuisance than something terrifying or painful. People like her are oblivious to the realities of trauma and suffering of others, so maybe that was the point.
@@oheymario lmfao. Room temp IQ.
Found myself nodding along and agreeing with everything you had to say. I totally think it's a film people with either "get" or won't, especially when it comes to the over-the-top caricature of Annie. I was thoroughly entertained and just had a genuinely fun (and grossed out) time.
Grossed out indeed!
Is it on a particular streaming platform? Or in theaters?
soooooooooo excited to watch this !!
I loved seeing how free and honest the main character was, it was refreshing to see someone genuinely not give a fuck, and yes it dumb and over the top but it's rare to see a modern movie pushing edgy views/propaganda from the right rather than the left
the horror aspect was sorely lacking I felt. Demons jumping out of nowhere, run, drive, scream, car crash, go somewhere new, repeat..
There were some really cool environments on screen, but it was full of non stop plot holes and it pretty much made no sense which really took away from the horror
The live stream comments were laugh out loud funny. By the way it wasn't filmed in London, it was actually shot in Margate, Kent.
I’ve been trying to watch this movie with my boyfriend ever since you and Emma did your reviews and he’s been so resistant. He’s not a horror guy, he thinks they’re boring, and I REALLY have to sell him on movies for him to sit and actually watch them with me and now just be on his phone or being obviously bored throughout it.
Well, he liked it. We both did. I’m glad there was the warning of how obnoxious the main character is because knowing that going into it made her more tolerable and honestly she definitely was not as bad as I thought she’d be (but she still sucked).
I was very happy with this movie and I really liked it. I see why it would get such negative reviews but honestly…it’s not a BAD movie. It’s just not for everyone.
I give it 7/10
Great video as always but will have to pass on watching it so I don’t give more of a platform to Annie Hardy. Excited to see your Watcher review to see if that one is any good!
Just saw the movie this weekend. Great review! I absolutely agree....👍🏼
Aside from the awful protagonist? I get why someone would like this movie but for me it stumbles in the trappings of the sub genre. The shaky cam for me was way too much, took me out of the film a few times and I know it's found footage but there were just too many times where I was like, why are they filming this? Especially when her male friend starts picking up the camera in the middle of the chaos.
The gore I think is pretty on point and yeah I do agree the horror elements are good but for me it's not enough to save the film. I do feel like this could have been like a short on V/H/S or something, it definitely had that "feel" of the franchise. I thought Host was amazing in the horror elements and it's simplicity but this was kinda a step down. I do think if the protagonist was likeable this would have been a lot more enjoyable or if she actually died.
Hey can you recommend any horror movies to watch tonight??? Any new 2021/22 thanks 😊
Love the haircut 🥰
I hated the movie, but I found myself thinking the lead actress did a great job portraying alt-right trolls so brilliantly,
And then I found her real Twitter page and realized it was actually just her playing herself.
Alt right ? In the movie she didnt say anything racist .. but youre a white male so Ofcourse youre the first to point that out
@@Littlekitten_, alt-right in that she spent the whole movie being anti-mask, joking about COVID, bashing Black Lives Matter, and talking about ANTIFA.
@@aaronmichael1201 she never made an antifa joke . She did make a feminist joke towards Strechs GF . Alt right means racist towards minorities , like i said she never said anything racist . Making fun that her friend had a BLM sign so he wont get his window broken isnt racist . You obviously didnt watch the movie . Again you’re a freaking white man crying about a female character who is supposed to be an obnoxious Trump troll . If you think you gain brownie points nah.. us minorities dont get triggered by fictional movies / characters.. we have way too many issues to worry about .
I thought they were setting Annie up to be killable so we didn’t feel bad once she died! Surprise, surprise.
Annie is cool in real life. Truth. How anyone could confuse an exaggerated caricature of herself over the real person is baffling to me.
I'm excited to see this new found footage movie!! And I would recommend this upcoming movie with Jenna Ortega in it, which is “American Carnage”.
Struggled with the 1st 20 minutes or so ,but then began to really enjoy the horror. Might have to watch it again to try and figure out what the monster was all about .
This was a hard one for me too. I came out of the film liking it but whenI started to look into the production and interviews for my review it was clear just how little acting was being done by the main character. When I looked into her it was just a nightmare of racist and transphobic comments and blog posts going back as far as 2016. So I am one of those folks who while I dug the movie, and if this had been acting I would have been enthusiastic about telling folks to watch it. I just cant with how uncritically they gave her a platform. I also think it's a hard story for foreigners to tell. If you aren't in the soup every day with these kind of folks I think it's hard to get beyond a surface level of how damaging it has been to us as a collective.
Youre white woman . Can you relax a bit, im Mexican and i had no clue who the actress was nor did i give a damn about her politics. Its a horror movie, people and children are starving to death everyday enjoy life and stop being bothered when you’re not brown or black.. trust me us minorities dont need you all to speak for us ..
@@Littlekitten_ I'm a member of the LGBTQIA community her transphobia/deadnaming is disgusting. I specifically said that the film was a hard one FOR ME. not speaking for anyone else. My Family lost 5 folks to Covid. So Yeah I have a problem with her politics and how the film blurs reality and fiction around said politics. That wasn't a deal breaker for you. Great, no one especially not me is making a value judgement on your or anyone else's enjoyment of the film.
@@msnintendique64 you’re still white, you have privilege ,You’re not a minority like me . also in the movie she said nothing homophobic or against that group .. 🤷🏻♀️ its 2022 the anti masks jokes are not causing harm anymore since there’s no more mandate in the US or UK. I almost lost people because of covid but im not going to blame a horror movie for it ..
DYING to hear what you thought of Watcher. Weirdly have a feeling you'll like it a lot!
Love all your videos and how genuine you are! Haters gotta leave our Sarah alone... Definitely going to watch 'Dashcam' asap. I just watched 'Watcher' yesterday & soooo looking forward to your review on Friday!!
About to watch it tonight!
Found footage is my favorite genre/sub genre/whatever. It’s my favorite horror everything. I can’t wait to watch this!
I love, LOVE, LOVE this movie. Also I wanna point out that Rob did an interview where he does says that the "hole plots" and hints are in the comments (that the viewer mades on Annie's live) and that the whole vibe of the movie was about being overwhelming and creating anxiety.
About the main character.. Well.. She's a sort of "anti-heros" and I loved that. We aren't used to this kind of characters and it's kind of refreshing.
Also, I might suspect that his movie is gonna do extremely well outside of the US or even UK. Simply because her "humors" doesn't hit home.. So there's that.
As for the gore, and horror elements.. Wow. Hands down the best and unexpected movie I've seen this year. Wanted more.. And I do agree.. The ending was sloppy.
well, one of the reasons I keep asking for spoilers, I can't watch found footage movies. I get sick very easily, like 10 mins in, the nausea and headaches kick in. I know not everyone has this problem but I'm still interested in the plots of these movies. So I really enjoyed the reviews where there's small spoilers at the end.
This one is so so shakey! I really struggled to focus. I'm sure I missed a lot of details also. A good spoiler review of this is on the Fish Jelly Reviews channels if you want to know more about the "story"
@@tonyabrookes9931 yea, but I like Possessed By Horror better, XD
Dang that sucks because this movie was funny and the jump scares were good but yea theres no steady scenes :/
It's pretty wild that we're getting Crimes of the Future and Dashcam at the same time. It's the perfect time for controversial horror movies apparently!
I've been catching up on horror movie watching and after each film I find myself searching to see if you have a video about it, especially when I don't really know how I felt about it lol.
It’s ok but I know she’d be knocked out by somebody long before the monster got her. I liked the cat. It’s really old now it would have been better a year ago st least.
Never clicked so fast!!!
Will have to check it out
i ABSOLUTELY agree with you!! this was so much fun and downright hilarious
I had a similar experience. I found the ride enjoyably crazy and applaud the movie for having a different take on the main protagonist and antagonist which made it feel fresh despite lots of found footage tropes.
I love found footage horror
Where can we watch this movie?
I just got done watching it and I enjoyed it! Yes, annie was a total eye roll when it came to her political views and it sucks that that will turn a lot of people off from what is otherwise a wild, highly entertaining ride. Several of the scares made me audibly gasp and jump, and usually I am immune to jumpy scares. I highly enjoyed the ride, 7/10.
this movie also does not offer any explanation for the "supernatural" aspect, if anything they bring up more questions while telling you "who" the old lady is in a way that makes you ask more. that'll frustrate some people, but if you like horror to leave a lot to the viewer to theorise, it's good
I found the horror a lot more scary in this film because I'm from the UK and it was clearly filmed here so it felt eerie and relatable
Sounds interesting to watch
"You were never bored." *goes on her phone* -_-
i really enjoyed this movie. found footage movies are some of my favs (especially as above so below). and the suspense and jump scares were AMAZING.
4:35 - italian ghost channeled
Maybe I was outta it but I didn’t understand the ending. At times the camera was shaking so much that I couldn’t really understand what was going on. Imma need an ending explained for this one.
Have you seen Spree? Loved it!
Despite all the negativity surrounding this movie I'm holding onto hope that I'll enjoy it like you did.
I think there is also a lot of confusion on this movie because there was ANOTHER 2022 dashcam release that was not a good movie. I watched it thinking it was this movie but was highly disappointed realizing I watch the wrong one. Looking at letterboxed reviews it seems like quite a few people made the same mistake
OH NO i stayed away from all reviews on dashcam to see it today. I loved it UNTIL i come here and found out Annie Hardy wasn't playing that character ironically. I really thought she was.
I saw it at a local theatre where I live and it was honestly a blast. Of course, HATED Annie but it was such a fun ride.
As of watching this video, I went straight over to Shudder and watched Host, cuz I literally had no idea it existed (I’m a bad, BAD horror fan 😅)
And I gotta say, Host was pretty good. I went in blind, and I LOVED that it was only an hour long (I don’t have a lot of free time these days, parenting and all…) While it had a few cliches and jump scares, it was creative with the premise and I loved the story behind the making of it. So you’ve sold me on Dashcam 😊 I’ll be checking it out ASAP.
Host was one of the best times I've had watching a movie in the last 5 years.
excited to check this out!
off topic, but i just watched I See You a few nights ago and it was so good! have you seen it? i think you should check it out if not
This is only for VOD right? I can’t find it streaming anywhere.
yes! I rented on Amazon
I’m 100% with you on this one, even though I wanted to personally take out the main character. I know a lot of people didn’t like it, but I feel like the reviews I’ve watched have been mostly positive. While the character is polarizing to say the least and abrasive and obnoxious throughout, it really felt like satire to me. There were moments in this film where any normal person in the same situation of Annie would have a nervous breakdown or be crippled with fear, but she just kind of makes jokes as the chaos is exploding all around her. It’s not meant to be taken seriously. It’s just meant to be gross, nasty fun, and it was. One last thing, despite her spewing hate for much of the movie, I found it interesting that her best friend/bandmate in the movie is actually her bandmate in real life and he’s Indian, I believe. That felt a little off for her exaggerated, presumably racist version of herself, but it was another interesting casting choice for Savage.
I loved Annie lmao
If she's the main character, she is by definition the protagonist. Sounds like Dashcam is a good example of the difference between "protagonist" and "hero".
Without Annie Hardy’s Band Car there would be no film. Her exaggerated self is the only reason it exists. Rob Savage and Jed Shepherd created it because of Band Car. Annie Hardy Rules and Saves.
The main character is obnoxious unfathomably but it´s a very effective found footage movie. Still very curious about the origin of the antagonist " issue"
Admittedly it is disappointing to hear she has similar beliefs in real life, but her comments while traumatic stuff was going on had me burst out laughing at the absurdity of it. I was expecting her to be a changed woman at the end and be genuinely scared/traumatized, but she kept on with the crazy comments, which was an interesting take! haha
Why is it disappointing? The director said he enjoys having people with different believes.. you should be more opened minded
Can u do a ranking of insidious movies !!!
Looks like I need to watch Host asap. Dashcam wasn't my favorite...but it definitely had some cool scenes.
Edit: I think after hearing you talk about it again I would do a second watch even. And yes...the lead is kind of the worst And the ending was actually my favorite part hahaha
I’m all for an unlikeable protagonist, and was enjoying the movie until I found out that she really is that way inclined irl 😣 makes me sad that she was given a platform of any sort, albeit in a cartoonish fashion
I was highly entertained by this film therefore I gave it a 4/5. Also I don't agree with any of Annie's views but despite all that I didn't hate her. She made me laugh a lot
I am torn on this movie. It has some good moments. The scares are good. The effects are well done. The horror elements are there. However, like you said, Annie is annoying (and meant to be). I get we are supposed to dislike her (her views, actions, and the way she treats people all suck). However, the fact she has no redeeming moments or self reflection (even after all she sees) is what makes me groan. Also, I love found footage horror (it is one of my favorite sub-genres), but the shakiness of the camera at times is a bit much (even for found footage). There were times when the camera movements and shakiness made it nearly impossible to tell what was going on or where we even were. I give it a solid C+ or B-. Like you said, the horror is spot on and the scares were great, but some of the camera movements and shakiness made it difficult to enjoy at times and Annie's personality made me not care what happened to her. Great review.
Honestly, this movie was so entertaining and I found Annie weirdly hilarious and was kinda rooting for her at the end.
Found footage movies is not my thing it's a hit or miss for me most of the time, by the great review
Saw on the internet?? I wish I only saw it on the internet... I've never disliked my husband and in-laws until they showed this side.... if we get divorced, this will be the root cause
Have u seen the other Dashcam film, released in 2021?
It's a screenlife film, involving a police conspiracy and cover up.
I liked this move! Definitely more of a black comedy to me than horror to me but I thought it was pretty funny, especially towards the end when she keeps rapping at super-random times
god this is worded so poorly i'm so sorry to anyone who reads it 😭
I went to a Q&A with Anne and the director and gotta be honest, she made the whole thing very awkward. Some of the comments she was saying was not it, and tbh since it was her birthday, I don’t even think she was sober. She seemed like she didn’t want to be there and Savage and the person hosting the Q&A had to do a lot to try to save the situation.
Damn that’s real unprofessional to be there not sober minded for the folks trying to support her work and what comments did she make that was wrong and make it awkward??
About "Monstrous" with Christian Rucci have u see it?
I agree with your comments on the Film i thought it was very entertaining but it's probably the only Horror Film I've watched where I was hoping the lead character would get killed at some point!
It's okay that enjoyed it! I personally prefer Spree as a dashcam found footage horror movie. I just had more fun with that one lol
I absolutely loved this film. I grew up enjoying Howard Stern and shock jock radio. Annie was hilarious and I liked how she challenged a lot of what would be accepted in the mainstream. This movie completely held my attention and it was one of my favorite found footage films. I had never heard of Annie prior, but will definitely want to follow her more!
Two words: "Acid Trip"!😂
The Exorcist is probably the scariest
In your opinion what is the scariest movie.
Yes! I would love her to do a video on the top 10scariest movies she’s ever seen
I appreciate your review, and your take on the movie. As somebody who didn't like host, I hadn't even heard anything about this movie, let alone the divisive nature it has. I may skip it or skim through it instead of giving it a full watch, just doesn't sound entertaining to me.
Have a nice day!
Yes excellent take on this movie. You’re right the main character is absolutely annoying but that’s how she was meant to be and that’s fine the horror aspect of the movie are pretty horrible no doubt so Rob made his point with that also most people are really confused about what this movie is about if you watch the movie when she’s hiding behind the cars look at the license plate pause it and then look up those first three letters/#’s yes I think this was a very unique way to speak about the pandemic 😷 A31 WTF
I know you fit in my genre somewhere.
i just finished watching it. it was good!!! 7/10
I liked it too 🙂
It's a really fun bad horror movie. I definitely think people are taking this film wayy too serious ,it's ridiculous and over the top and that's the movies charm, kinda like an Evil Dead where the movie isn't taking itself serious and I can respect that. I am insanely critical when it comes to movies and especially horror, but you can't watch this movie like any other horror movie, you have to understand right away what it's trying to be. I mean come on the film opens with a naked dude on a bike it's completely batshit and hilarious. Glad I watched it, it was again an enjoyable to watch "bad movie"
I didn't know this movie existed until I watched this review xD.
