Reeker outmatched Joyride due to the care invested into making it a movie worth watching.
As an Aussie, I've had the pleasure of meeting John Jarratt (The Killer in Wolf Creek) on multiple occasions, he's such a nice guy in real life, always great to chat with.
Wouldn't you have to be nice, to be on Play School?
I met him and he murdered me
Thank you for these videos sarah! they’re really helping me get through my depression and boredom ~~ road trip horror’s are my favorite
Hope you are doing ok
@@heatheraggus7501 How kind need more people like you, you have my respect keep being you
Joy Ride is one of the most entertaining movies for me, and one of the few films I watch at least once a year. As far as horror goes, it’s definitely not scary or disturbing at all.. but I think it’s so well made. I love the dynamic between the brothers. It just never gets old for me.
After seeing some scenes from Dead End, I know I saw it a long time ago but I remember almost nothing about it. I’ll have to check it out again.
I totally forgot about Dead End too! Definitely rewatching that ASAP
Same for me re: Joy Ride. It's so funny too, the dynamic between the bros because initially I CAN'T STAND the older brother. But then as the movie goes on and shit starts to go down, he grows on me. It's such a good flick!
Besides some classic & popular films, I liked few underrated Road trip horror films:
Road Games (1981), High Tension (2003), Eden Lake (2008), The Final Terror (1983), Jeeper Creepers 2001), Splinter(2008), Killing Ground (2016),
My top 10 Road Trips Movies R: 10) JoyRide 9) The Hills Has Eyes 8) Jeeper Creepers 7) Wrong Turn 6) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (76) 5) Greenland 4) House Of 1,000 Corpse 3) The Hitcher (Remake) 2) Dead End 1) House Of Wax
Love your list!
I was looking for a comment mentioning house of 1000 corpses!
Glad you said Remake for The Hitcher lol - many will say original.
Hearing you call The Strangers: Prey at Night underrated made me so happy.
I'd add "Trapped Child", free on Tubi. This woman and her young child become stranded on the road, in the heat, with no one else around and no water, when her car breaks down. She can't get into her car because it's a 'smart car', she can't call 911 because her phone is locked in the car. The situation becomes dire and dangerous very quickly. I enjoyed this movie a lot, fast-paced and you're not bored.
The Hitcher(1986). Two words Rutger Hauer.
Near Dark(1987) Because it's a vampire road movie, mostly hot desert sun while on the road.
Just my two cents.
Southbound is SO DAMN GOOD. One of the best anthology horror films to date and they way it weaves together is spectacular.
The map quest era was a hell of a time lol I can't even imagine doing that now.
I feel you could also add Rest Stop. It’s not the best movie ever made of anything but it’s a good watch and has a great twist
"Duel" from 1971 (directed by Steven Spielberg) is a great road trip horror (well, maybe more terror) movie. Originally made for television, it as so successful the studio released it in theaters. And to cheat a little bit, there's an episode of "The Twilight Zone" called the "The Hitchhiker" which never fails to give me chills when I watch it.
Race with the Devil with Peter Fonda is another 70's trip horror. It's worth a look, if you haven't watched it.
I just started exploring horror book CZcams because of your horror book videos! It’s such a fun genre of CZcams! I’d love to see more on what your reading, reviews etc. omg! Ranking videos of horror books the same as you do with horror films! That would be sooo fun!
6:20 “ they knew to hold back”
* flashback to the head on a stick scene and remembering how that stuck with me for years * 👁👄👁
Hi Sarah, I just want you to know that I really REALLY love your channel. Your videos bring me joy and you have the same outlook on horror as I do, which i really love. Thank you for treating us with your vids
Dead End (2003) is a highly underrated road horror movie as well. Probably my guilty pleasure with all the intentional dark comedy n creepy atmosphere. Its perfect for a road nightmare. ALSO ALSO it stars LIN SHAYE n i love her in horror. Wow just comppleted the video to discover you already included it at the end, DAMNNN lol
I was coming to say this! That movie freaked me out as a kid
To this day anytime I drive through the woods at night, that fucking movie pops in my head and I start freaking out thinking I’m gonna get stuck in a loop .
@@appy2609 I just saw it last year. Im from india n we hardly get any horror films. Anyways, i really loved it
Yes! I always watch this movie during Christmas!
@@onethousandlostsouls brooo spoilers lol
I'm not sure if you have, or if you can, make a list of your skip scenes. I wouldn't expect you to describe them, but possibly indicate what part of the movie it's at, or the events leading up to it. For certain types of thrillers or horrors I like to either read the plot of it ahead of time or skip scenes altogether as well.
Sarah you have the best compilation videos, you understand what it means when a certain mood strikes and you ~deliver~. This channel has been my go to for horror recs in general for years, but especially when I'm looking for something niche and specific. Thanks for being awesome and passionate about what you do
ahh yes thank you so much!! I get those moods all the time for something very specific haha
Great idea Sarah. I don’t think any other movie channel lists have thought of this theme. I have to include one of my favs the original The Hitcher and also Steven Speilbergs classic Duel. Love your channel💕
Great list Sarah. Some I haven't seen and a few I'd like to revisit. I love your videos. They always put me in the mood to explore outside what I typically go for in the horror genre.
the strangers: prey at night is one of my all time favorites!! so happy you mentioned it 🖤
right, mine too. it literally changed the way i saw horror. i was maybe too young to watch it because it was pretty disturbing and i really had to look away sometimes but i'm so grateful it exists even though it's more of a fun than an intelligent film
as someone from the southern hemisphere here, thank u for thinking about us lmao
I’d add Eden Lake here. From all of the roadtrip movies I’ve seen so far /all of them from your list/ that is the most disturbing for me.
That one always pissing me off so bad, 10/10 movie tho!
Oh and also the Hitcher remake from 2007, loved that era of horror movies
good choice Marci. That movie is one of those I can’t watch but I have to movies. Horrifying ending for sure.
RIGHT
Love this list! In terms of sequels you may have missed, both Joyride 2 and 3 are both highly watchable! Wolf Creek 2 is also pretty good (haven't seen the TV series, but want to) and Wolf Creek 3 (!!!) is scheduled to come out in 2023! I think that Wolf Creek is seriously underrated, the movie lets you really get to know the 3 road-trippers before all hell breaks loose!
aaaah if you haven't already you should check out the movie In Fear from 2013 !!! its highly underrated and fits the road trip gone wrong theme
I was just about to comment this too. I think everyone’s forgotten about this movie
the first time I watched Southbound, I was in awe with how seamlessly and well all the stories went together. I didn't know it was an anthology when I started it, and I'm not the biggest anthology fan. but Southbound was SO GOOD. I can't recommend it enough, and the stories are so good and disturbing. The hospital scene is engraved in my memory forever.
Yes! The hospital scene is so f'ked up for real. It went on way too long for me lol.
been waiting for this 😍
dead end is such an underrated gem. The infamous 'scratch' scene will always stick with me
did you hear that darren aronofsky is directing a new horror film titled “Adrift”? starring jared Leto which is adapted from Koji Suzuki’s dark water story collection (author of the ring).
the plot:
A fishing boat discovers an abandoned yacht with a strange distress call. A deckhand agrees to take lone control of it while it's towed into port, but soon he discovers why it is called it a "Ghost Ship."
Sounds interesting…🤔😌
Great recommendations! Wrong Turn (the whole series) is a huge guilty pleasure for me!
*JOYRIDE* IS CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED
It's actually got great reviews from audiences and critics.
@@heatheraggus7501 True, but I meant underrated as in it doesn’t get talked about enough
thank you so much for such a unique list
The Hitcher is also a great road trip movie if you haven’t seen it! I love the main actress Sophia Bush is in it, and it also does something really interesting with the screenwriting in that the protagonist switches in the middle of the film.
You should watch the original 1986 "The Hitcher." It's so much better than the remake.
@@joshknoll5172 Yeah it made me sad when I ketp reading the comment and saw it was about the remake. Rutger Hauer is so good in the original.
Thanks for including us Southern Hemisphere folks!!
joyride scares the sh*t out of me ... its actually really good and I love the actors
I saw Wolf Creek 2 at the cinema with my dad as we were fans of the original. Definitely reccomend the 2nd one, in my opinion not as good as the 1st, but definitely still worth a watch if you enjoyed the original Wolf Creek.
And when it comes to the series, so far I've only seen the 1st episode, and it's pretty violent, like I'm a fan of the movie and was still surprised by the series.
The first season was a bit different, but the second is more like the movies.
The series was great! I like it even more than the movies.
the series is quite great
I always find it interesting, when titles differ from country to country. Joyride is called Road Kill in Denmark. Awesome list btw. I’m so glad you mentioned Carriers and Wind Chill, which are movies I love. Same goes with TTCM (2003).
I remember watching The Hills Have Eyes when I was 8 yrs old.. I’ve been scarred ever since.
The remake? Oh man, you shouldn’t have watched it at that age
I was SO EXCITED you put Dead End in your video, let alone where you placed it♡♡♡ it's SOOO underrated & fantastic. This definitely brought me back where I went to Blockbuster to grab this movie (more than 4 times lol). You are the Horror movie queeeen❤🖤❤🖤😉
Great list. I am so glad I found your channel. Great stuff.
Joy Ride is one of my fav horror movies to rewatch. Well among a bunch, cuz it is so fun.
Going on a road trip in 3 days and was just thinking of something to watch to get me hyped, incredible timing
Great video Sarah! Would you ever consider making a top 10 exorcism movies? There's so many out there but just a few have managed to be good and somehow creative and I'd love to see a list of the ones you recommend!
Dead End is one of my favorite horror movies in general.
The Hitcher is like the most ultimate road trip movie.
Great list. Unlike another channel that picked films that were not even road trip movies. Keep it up.
I love that you put Joy Ride in this list! It's one of my favorites and I never hear any one talk about it. More of a suspense/thriller than true horror (IMO), but it's great.
I love Wind Chill, watch it every December.
I'd call it Lifetime Movie Network Horror, think it actually aired on there a few yrs ago.
Wrong turn is my favorite horror movie
Joy ride and jeepers keepers are my fav
Great movie Review! Excellent choices. Thx a lot for your work!
Definitely going to add a handful of these to my watch-list!
Joy Ride is one of my all time favs, amazing in every aspect and super rewatchable. Just checked out Wolf creek 1&2 they both were actually very good 👍
I love this list but also love your makeup!
oh thank you!!
One of my absolute favorite road trip horror movies is the hitcher. It’s pretty psychological but still really good
The pool scene music rocked on my 9.2.4 system. Loved it.
The first half of TCM III (1990) has one of the most tense "road chase/horror" scenes in the whole series, it's a shame the second half isn't nearly as good, but I definitely recommend re-watching the first half. The "tire changing scene" is one of my favorite moments in horror movie history!
Just found you via your video ranking all saw traps/test and let me say I have been looking for a channel like yours. DeadMeatJames and FoundFlix is not enough - I need more horror CZcamsrs!! ❤️
Oh my gosh! I can't believe you didn't include The Hitcher from 2007! I might be bias but such a good contender.
I’ve never seen it but definitely will watch it since everyone is commenting it!
OMG YES ROAD TRIP HORROR IS ONE OF MY FAVS!
Thanks for the videos sarah. Your channel really feels like a safe space :)
New subscriber here , I enjoy your videos so much, and look forward to the next one ❤️also love the shirt! Where did you get it ?!
Joyride was my favourite as a teenager.
I would suggest The Hitcher and Rest Stop.
cabin in the woods! obviously light horror but i love a good dark comedy and it’s just such a fun movie
Happy Friday
dead end was the first film that comes to my mind when I saw the title of this vid and I'm glad that you include it on your list. it's such a fun watch and I like the fact that the second half of the movie does not make any sense.
Same lol
I thought of dead end and the hills have eyes. Both great road trip horror movies!
The Hitcher, original and Road Games with Jamie Lee Curtis. Yes you love the early 2000's ha
Dead End is such an underrated film!
Great list! I would add Curve (2015) to the summer list.
Also I watched the call (2013), not "roadtrip" but most takes place inside a car...was surprised how good it was and loved the ending
Road Movies are one of my favorite sub-genres of movies.
I haven't actually heard of Joy Ride, will check it out! Thank you for the suggestion!
Great list, I'd highly recommend Wolf creek 2 and absolutely recommend the series. One thing I really like about it is with several episodes, you get a chance to connect with and care about the characters. It's more of anthology style, the two seasons aren't unrelated but you don't absolutely have to have seen the first to watch the second season. Dead End is a favorite of mine to watch in Dec.
Dead End is fucking dope. I was hoping it made this list.
Yo I really love your videos fasho
I love The Hills have Eyes & Joy Ride. I gotta check out the other ones. Love your videos
your videos are awesome, you rock and it's a weird coincidence because 4 or 5 hours ago I was actually searching here / Googling best road trip movies! haha
But the BEST one is " Race with the devil ", the original, unbeatable roadtrip from hell, a classic like no other ! Great channel.
Greetz, Tom, Belgium.
My favorite type of horror movies
I’m glad someone finally mentioned Dead End. I feel many horror fans don’t know it exists. I’m not going to lie it was very hard for me to watch this movie initially, but I’ve grown to really appreciate it over time.
Some good ones on your list. My top 2 are Bride Of Chucky and Jeepers Creepers.
I never hear her talk about Jeepers Creepers! I loved that movie when I was a kid. I haven’t seen it in forever.
Love Wolf Creek 1 and 2, Wind Chill and Wrong Turn. Have you seen Escape from Cannibal Farm? It's not great but popcorn fun. It also fits this category.
I agree about the strangers!
I watched southbound I think another time you recommend it and I def enjoyed the gritty atmosphere of it. Will be checking out some of these other ones too 🙂
HOW DID THE 2007 THE HITCHER NOT MAKE THIS LIST!?!?! OMG! ONE OF THE BEST!
I love this category so much for some reason lol 😂 I clicked on this video so fast.
Prey Of Night is Strangers 2 Movie which I do like
Absolutely check out the 2nd wolf creek, it's a guilty pleasure for me
I love Dead End! Finally someone recognizes it :)
I love wind chill so much. If you're a gamer and love Silent Hill, I think you will love it.
Joy ride , wrong turn and wolf creek 2 are my fvrt movies.
Also if you like horror films that take place in the winter/cold the Norwegian "Cold Prey" series is really great. The first Cold Prey from 2006 is probably the best, but they are all really good brutal fun, and should be seen by more people.
I’ve always wanted to know your opinion on Joy ride, that’s one of my favorites!
YESSSS IVE BEEN WAITING FKR YOUR REVEIW KN SOUTHBOUND!!!!!!!!!!
Omg Dead End was one of my favorites movies.
One movie I was hoping to see on this list was Jeepers Creepers.
Dead End!!! Love that movie. That's the first one I thought of when I saw the title to this video. I don't really see it talked about much so I wasn't sure you'd include it so when you did I was like YESSS lol. I think I know the scene you mean and it freaks me out too. Overall such a fun movie though
I like Downrange and No Exit in addition to many you mentioned.
I agree with you on Strangers: Prey at Night. I watched it for the first time a few days ago and I enjoyed it more than the original probably because there was more action 😄
