4:37 - If you like really slow movies with nice visuals like _Melancholia,_ then you'll like _Tree of Life_ which was the most boring movie in history, but had a ( _very_ ) long segment in the middle of nothing but nice random visuals.
8:39 - Actually, _Sunshine_ is indeed technically a horror because of the supernatural stuff.
12:13 - Those aren't moon-pirates, _they're whalers on the moon, they carry a harpoon, but there ain't no whales, so they tell tall tails and singing a whaling tune._
14:57 - _Knowing_ was fine. 😛 He was also in another adaptation of _Left Behind_ (not space-y, but still apocalyptic).
    • If you like space-apocalypse movies, you'll like _These Final Hours_ it's very dramatic and moving. There's also the mini-series _Childhood's End_ which leaves you with a very heavy and oppressive feeling.

I LOVE space apocalypse movies, too! I can watch 'em all just for the visuals. Watched Aniara last night. Wow. And I share your hope for the end of the Earth: watchin' another planet hurtle towards us. What a sight!! Have you seen Cargo (2009), German film? Or Europa Report (2013)? The Expanse on Amazon Prime is also a great recommendation! Pandorum (2009), Event Horizon (1997). Not necessarily apocalyptic, some, but close. Oh, and Last and First Men (2020)!! Great video, Sarah!

Thanks for the genre tips Sarah. Here's one I bet you've never seen. On the borderlands between post-apocalyptic and space apocalypse is the unusual film The Quiet Earth. It's a very low budget mysterious 1985 film from New Zealand with a pretty interesting performance by Bruno Lawrence. I suspect that this film is up your alley. Especially the final moment. Hunt it down.

It is debatable that the apocalypse event in 'The Road' is caused by a space related event. One of my favorite books and movies. I would add that to the list.

Melancholia is a masterpiece. As well as The House that Jack Built, Dogville, Breaking the Waves and Dancer in the Dark.

Melancholia was set very low volume wise, kept turning it up higher and higher..........suddenly realised in the last 5 minutes of the film as to why be warned it was goosebump worthy (must have been amazing at the cinema) wonderful film...watch it when you are feeling low.

This is a great sub-genre, and the list contains Aniara, the only one that I haven't seen that I certainly NEED to watch ASAP. I loved 3022 which I saw after you recommended it. Great story. I was so fortunate to see The Wandering Earth on the big screen during it's limited US release and the CGI didn't really hold up for me. If this one ever gets a Hollywood remake, I think the visuals could definitely be improved (predominantly in the disaster set pieces) but the space stuff with the planets did look beautiful! You'll be happy to know that China is making a sequel!! (The Wandering Earth grossed $700M worldwide!!)

If I could give this video something higher than a thumbs up I would. The Titan with Sam Worthington and Taylor Schilling. A neat little pre-apocalyptic, quasi creature feature. 3 out of 5 watch. Also, love the long hair and the glowing disposition you have. IO last on Earth is also a good film but kind of skirts the line on this sub-genre.

A super tip if you like spectacular visuals...one of my three favorite films is called "Chushingura" directed by Inagaki. It is japanese, as my other two favorites 'seven samurai', and 'sanjuro', by kurosawa.

Melancholia hit me hard the first time I saw it. Which would be the only time I've seen it.. it's one of the best movies I've ever seen. And one of the most impactful films to me personally. That ending scene basically took my breath away. I've always been scared of an asteroid hitting earth, or a space explosion, etc killing off earth ever since I was a child, and this movie captured that kind of fear, and nihilistic depression I've felt throughout my life often. Such a strong movie. Now the funny thing is, with a movie I consider a masterpiece, you'd think I would surely see it more than once, but I'm scared of ruining that first time experience I had with the film. Like maybe certain things I remember about the film are actually different or something. Idk. Really strange, so I can't explain it. But when I saw that film, I was in a certain head space.. and it hit me like a ton of bricks. Very happy to hear you mention it lol

This reminded me of a pretty great book series by Susan Beth Pfeffer. I read it like 10 years ago or something so it might be more directed towards teenagers but I think it's still worth a look.
Anyway, the first book is called "The world as we knew it". An astroid hits the moon and pushes it towards earth which causes a lot of natural catastrophies. We follow a family of four, trying to survive in a world that changes drastically from what they were used to.

I didn't see the wandering earth. I had heard about it and was poisoned against it. I heard about it because it was pinned the "highest budget film China every made". I'll watch it now.
I love Ad Astra so much. I loved it on first watch. It's so chill. I watch it pretty often.
I love Aniara as well. Jesus Christ that movie. It's brutal af. So amazing.
This video has inspired me to chat about what films I really enjoy. Thanks Sarah.

As a dedicated fan of science fiction, this video fills me with life. :3
    1) Melancholia didn't really do it for me. :/
    2) Now I want to watch Aniara.
    3) I rewatched Interstellar last year as part of a "Biggest Sci-Fi Films I've Seen Between 2013 and 2020" retrospective and gained a greater appreciation for it than I already did. I was struck by how eerily it felt like the current state of the world.
    4) Did you know that the reason the Sun is dying prematurely in Sunshine is because it's been "infected" by a Q-ball?
    5) I'd watch The Wandering Earth again, but only with friends.
    6) And another movie on my "Biggest Sci-Fi Films I've Seen Between 2013 and 2020" retrospective. Of the films on that list, Ad Astra was the one where my opinion changed the most. I was disappointed when I first saw it, but gained greater appreciation for it after the retrospective.
    7) Hmm, going to have to give Greenland a look.
    8) Yeah, going to have to give Knowing a hard pass.
    9) Hmm, going to have to give 3022 a look.
As to the tenth entry on this list, Life (2017) is definitely a solid choice. Perhaps The Midnight Sky from last year? Or Mad Max: Fury Road?

I was frustrated with Melancholia I was so into it. I was overwhelmed with everything. The story was confusing and it was chaotic. The third part was WILD. It was sad and hopeless. As of today, idk how I feel about it.
