2 months late to the party but I *love* my DW kill team. Its very cool to see someone else not only dig them as a team but set their team up very similarly to mine. I built out a full 20 man roster and just love how much fluidity they have to take on just about anything.
Congratulations on the birth of your second child! That must feel amazing. About the Deathwatch KT, they look really impressive, especially the leader! I love that you made him a Feral Tusk Take care!
You're right, it feels to me like they were very intentional about that with most factions, but especially so with Deathwatch. Makes sense as a Kill Team is a Deathwatch thing. Thanks for the comment!
Deathwatch was my first kill team back in 2018 as well. Always loved the deathwatch and once overkill came out I've been grabbing what I could of them, got enough models for a 1.5k army now lol. These guys and chaos marines are my go to's.
Tips for white scars/similar paint schemes. 1. A good animal hair brush helps a alot in getting the paint to flow smoothly. White is the one time I consider a good brush a requirement. 2.Make sure you can see the tip of the brush while loaded, if you can't there is too much in the brush. 3. Have a look at both Gryphcharger Grey and Apothecary White for shading. Those two contrast paints do so much better than regular washes when used as a glaze or pin wash. 4. For red lining I tend to use red contrast paints. Just runs off the brush easier. Do have to make sure not too loaded. Few other tips out there but if you just want white and not wanna fiddle around with a dozen greys thats some speed tips.

I'm basically building up about 6 or so kill teams for friends who just want to come over and play, so I'm not MARRIED to this idea that these are "my" guys or whatever, so I'm not hell bent on them all being hyper-optimized... so, I'm pretty much using your video as a guide.

Yep, thankfully I stole one from a hellblasters box. I had to order a gravgun from ebay though. Are you running the frag cannon or infernus heavy bolter???
@@battlebrotherstabletop I've yet to play them but have magnetized both for options. I hear the frag cannon is nuts but am leaning towards the heavy bolter whenever I finally get them on the table to try and get as much out of bolter discipline as possible.

Hey Mike, I’m sorry I missed your comment! My bases are really simple, it’s some texture/basing paint from Vallejo or Citadel and then I just do some light dry brushing upwards on their fit. Super simple, but it helps tie the model in with their base. Thanks for the dope comment!

@@mrpink8228 I actually had a primaris scale DW Vet team for KT2018, but they weren’t legal, so I scrapped them. I always use Assault Intercessor bodies as a base because I like the dynamic poses and the little armor pieces on the hips. Regular Intercessors look too skinny at the hips for me. And then I just used a box of DW Vets for all the weapons and stuff. The scale difference on the arms isn’t too bad IMO. If you have any hooded Eliminator heads, they work great too.

Love that DW won out in the votes. With the new KT21 rules, my DW team is the only one that survived the transition. 😒 The spear weapon on your leader is very damn cool.
Oof, that really sucks, man. I’m having to rework a lot of my teams, too. Almost all of them actually… DW is definitely the best of the marines I’ve played so far. Really want to try scouts though, but I feel like if you’re playing scouts, Sisters of battle would be a better choice. Idk tho. Thanks, man!

@@Renigade16 Hmmm, interesting. I think an All Scion team fits the same “archetype” as the 10 sisters or 10 scouts too. Their hotshot lasguns are just bolters now. Nice, I’m undecided if I’m going to play anymore KT18. I think I’m just going to focus on KT2021 for a while and see how I feel. I’ve really been enjoying the new edition.

I ordered a box online and with the additional model rule per the March update, I'm curious if there's are enough torso bits for 6 models. Excellent content! Thank you. Quick question, why do you prefer a frag cannon over the infernus heavy bolter? Seems as though the heavy bolter hitting on 3+ with 5 dice almost guarantees a crit giving you AP1 and couple that with bolter discipline to shoot twice and a suspensor system to allow movement and you’re an absolute menace on the table. Your thoughts?
Hey, I’m glad you asked! A few reasons why I always go with the Frag… The ability to have one gun with multiple profiles is so useful. The frag profile will absolutely destroy guardsmen or cultists that are close together. I’ve killed 3 cultists at once thanks to the frag profile having blast. AND the shell profile has guaranteed AP on it, and better damage. I don’t like leaving things up to chance. With the frag cannon, you can kill a marine in 2 crits, not super likely, but possible. Not possible with the IHB. One of the biggest things is that the frag doesn’t have the Heavy keyword on it, so it doesn’t affect your movement. That’s means you don’t need to spend equipment points on suspend or system, and you do my favorite thing which is move to get a shot, delete whatever you’re shooting at with one shot and then duck back into cover. With and IHB, if you want to shoot twice, you’re stuck out on the open if you need to move to get LOS. This is huge for me. You’re precious heavy gunner can’t get shot off the board if he’s hiding behind some chunky heavy cover lol. I know people love bolter discipline, and I think it’s awesome, but I think it can be a crutch. I’ve honestly never regretted taking the frag, and I’ve seen people all time take the IHB and get punished for it. I mean, this is really just my opinion, but I feel like the frag is absolutely the better choice 9 times out of 10. Also, if the enemy team doesn’t have scary shooting, you can still leave your frag in a good spot to make use of overwatch. That’s a little trickier and dangerous to set up, but if you can do it, it’s devastating.

Hey man, thanks for the comment! 😂 The only primaris team I’ve played is Assault Intercessors, and they didn’t do well at all lol. Unless they give us access to a mixed primaris team, they’re pretty handicapped. I biggest piece of advice is to take the frag cannon. I see a lot of people taking the infernus heavy bolter so you can double tap it with bolter discipline, but the frag cannon has been a delete button for me in every game. I killed 3 neophytes that were bunched up one time with it and I was sold. Other than that, if you want to go straight up half melee and half shooting, you could do a frag cannon heavy, a plasma gunner, a leader with storm shield and power weapon, a fighter with whatever you like and then a flex model with DW bolter and power weapon. Another option is 5 guys with DW bolters and power weapons 😂 it’s the ultimate flex list, and I think it has some legs with bolter disciple honestly. I’ve typed all this out with a baby and a toddler on my chest, so I hope it’s somewhat coherent! 😂

I love the them as a kill team its really cool having really different looking models that can each do something different. However, idk how good they are, they crumble pretty hard against stuff like Scions, Pathfinders, even the standard guardsmen can give these guys a hard time.
@@battlebrotherstabletop Yeah I really hope they help them out in the future, maybe a white dwarf team or something. Its nice not having to buy more than one kit to build a team, but I feel like the Primaris Marines really suffer from a lack of versatility. That and they just get out activated each turn, it always feels like you need kill at least 2 or 3 enemy operatives turn 1 to have a chance at objectives.

I bought a deathwatch team the same night I watched this, I watch it a few times, pro acryl white , it is crazy good coverage, I even used it today to paint a imperial fist shoulder pad, white over black perfect for yellow which is as transparent as shit.

i personally run a leader and fighter with shield and power maul. I'm a big fan of stun and there just aren't enough power mauls floating around out there. I ended up building guys with dw bolters as well, initially i played grey knights and felt that bolter discipline with storm bolters was pretty filthy but the power weapon that comes with dw bolter guys puts then just over the storm bolter
Dope! I haven’t run the mauls yet, but I have them magnetized. I tend to lean towards the power weapon as the sweet spot, but I haven’t really used much of stun in melee, so I should probably try it out. I’ve loved the heavy thunder hammer though. I’m really thinking about the DW shotguns. I’m actually magnetizing them rn. Only thing is no bolter discipline, but we’ll see how it goes.
@@battlebrotherstabletop I haven't messed around with shotguns much but i have a friend who likes them. I think the stun is good on offense because you get to at first so if you roll that 6 you put 5 damage into them and take away one of their successes, the fact that it's a defensive ability in addition is really useful. if you get no 6's you just use your shield to parry 2 hits.
Thanks 😅 Well, I don’t love the idea not having the power weapon, but I think all the profiles are really good. Xenopurge especially looks really good to me, and I like how the long range profile is just the Vengance SIA. Now that I’m thinking about it, I’m going to try running a few in my next game, actually. Xenopurge would eat guardsman or gaunts for lunch.

really great video! I wonder though how are you dealing with the Heavy rule on the frag cannon and inferno heavy bolter? I find it really hard to let a marine stand still for a turn. Do you use the suspensor system for 3 equipment points? Do you throw the heavy weapon onto a vantage point and let them sit all game?
Hey, thanks! Whoah, THE Jay from EOB??? Love what you guys do. Well, I always go for the Frag because it actually doesn’t have the heavy rule oddly enough. I know bolter disciple is really tempting on the IHB, but if you have him standing still, he’ll get destroyed as I’m sure you’ve probably experienced lol. The frag is so versatile, too. I’m a Frag man all the way. The other part of my brain thinks an interesting DW build is 4 dudes with bolters and swords with a heavy gunner with IHB. That way you’ll really get your money’s worth out of bolter discipline.

so I know this video is about 2 years old now. and alot of things have changed over those two years but one thing that has not been made clear as of yet. In general for deathwatch, how does chapter tactics and battle honors work with deathwatch?
Deathwatch definitely stand out for the marines, 1 extra tac is not going to make the difference between special issue and power weapons. Compared to the primaris they actually have choices.
@@battlebrotherstabletop As a dedicated First Born player it is just tacs or scouts for me. I do have some nids and a overkill set of cultists who are waiting on reinforcements.
Also the reason the frag cannon is the choice is that it is not heavy. With only 5 models you do not want to have to make the decision between moving and shooting. You can spend 9 inches to get on that vantage point, shoot once and then overwatch also. Rinse and repeat to bring the weapon into position.
Hey I recently got a box of death watch, and I really like how you made the seargant's xeno blade look. Im curious how you turned the the xeno blade into a polearm, it looks super sick. I have a guess that you chopped up one or both of the thunder hammers and clipped the sword just under the guard, sanded and reglued, then wrapped it in green stuff "parchment."
So i cut a thunder hammer that came in the death watch kit just under the top hand, then I cut the bottom of where the hammer head connects to the shaft as well as where it connects to the cabling and you now have the hammer in two pieces. I then carefully cut the where the top hand connects to the top of the shaft, being careful to get a straight line and saving as much of the connecting bit as possible. I tried really hard to keep the bit of cabling but it wouldn't have fit to the handle very well, perhaps someone more savvy than I can green stuff it or something, but I had to cut this as well. then I cut the sword same as shown in the vid. Then I carefully sanded the cuts just to clean them up a bit, carefully filed off the bottom hand to be as close to flush as possible. I then glued the connector piece to the sword hilt, the connector piece to the top of the hand, and the bottom of the shaft to the bottom of the hand. It turned out spectacularly.

@@battlebrotherstabletop i thought it looked amazing, but I made the mistake of priming before gluing and now small parts don't fit and I've decided to delay them for now until I can get another box or bits to fix the pieces that don't fit. If you're curious about how it turned out I could send it over discord or something. I've since started working on a warp coven team, I made sure not to prime them yet lol.
I'm really excited to run a DW kill team, my list is Sgt-Xenophase + bolter Fighter with HtH H. gunner- Frag cannon Gunner With plasma Warrior with bolter and PW Warrior with Shotgun and PW however you have make me think twice about the SS, plus can you shoot both the bolter and the combi weapon? st the same time? i know melee is lethal but i didn't know is was this bad

@@battlebrotherstabletop yeah lots. Do you mean a recipe? I start with a dry brush of true copper from army painter then base the panels with deep blue from army painter. Just that gives a striking model. Also they're not blue, they're In Midnight Clad :) ...the Night Lords are great to paint because they have so much interesting conversion opportunities based on their lore. Extra body parts, chain glaives, gory trophies, winged helmets, skull iconography. The lighting is a bit of a pain, but it is so iconic and striking. Along with the red winged helmets, they makes the Night Lords actually Night Lords Of course, don't use the GW/FW NL helmets...they're kinda awful.

@@battlebrotherstabletop Of course there's a lot more detail work after the copper and blue. I love all the kitbashing and conversions Ive done for my Night Lords. Getting a variety of heads with batwings and other unique elements and such to reflect the tattered and terrifying aspect of the Night Lords is the most fun part of KT for me. Anyways, love the channel and let me know if you need any more detailed guides for Night Lord painting or kitbashing!
Im gonna make a DW team but using intercessor bodies and still fielding them as veterans. Find the DW vet bodies just too tiny... should i go go the big powersword on the leader?
I think GW's approach to how the Deathwatch KT is structured is fundamentally flawed in KT21. The copy/paste of the team structure from other factions/Fire Teams really shouldn't apply to a Deathwatch Kill Team. They are the elite, best of the best, and the best at what they do. While it's nice to be able to use all the different bits to make your Veterans in the box look like a 40K squad, there really was no need to go that route. There's 2 Heavy Thunder Hammers in the box and you can run 2 HTH in your squad (Watch Sgt & Fighter). Realistically though, no DW KT is going to host 2 different guys specialised in the same niche weapon. It's a flavour fail. On the flip side, running both an Infernus Heavy Bolter and a Frag Cannon on the same 5-man squad wouldn't have caused comment until you had to choose between them. Remember DW weren't a top tier faction in KT18 and you could run 1x IHB alongside 3x Frag in addition to whichever Watch Sgt you put hiding at the back of the board. Here you can't even run 1 of each. Not having the option for both is a huge flavour fail. If we could run it back, here's my take on how the Deathwatch Veteran Fire Team should be structured (based on the 1-box-1-team concept GW seems to be leaning on in this edition): Fire Team of 5 Veterans 3 lists of possible loadouts: - All the weapons molded with 2-hand carries (Frag, IHB, HTH, Twin-claws, Shotgun etc.) - All the weapons & equipment molded with ony left-hand carries - All the weapons & equipment molded with only right-hand carries You may choose any weapon or equipment only once on your roster. For any operative, you may choose either one option from the 2-handed carry list or one option from each of the right- and left-hand carry lists. When composing your Fire Team, choose any 5 guys. If one or your operatives carries a Xenophase Blade, he is your Watch Sgt. Otherwise, choose any operative to be your Watch Sgt. That's it. Nothing more complicated than that. No extra bits or weapons, no "heavy" or "fighter" restrictions. This "one of each specialities each with a convoluted list of restrictions" stuff is not for me. I really dislike how they have done this team and feel that it's a disservice to the fluff and how much more fun the faction could be in-game.

Strangely enough, I actually feel like DW are one of the more flexible teams there are as far as load outs. I do agree with you though, I’d like to be able to run the frag and IHB together. I think your solution is good and keeps things simple. Since I’m a month late to reply, have your thoughts on this changed at all after playing more games of the new edition?

2 months late to the party but I *love* my DW kill team. Its very cool to see someone else not only dig them as a team but set their team up very similarly to mine. I built out a full 20 man roster and just love how much fluidity they have to take on just about anything.
Models look great and the turn table is a nice touch. I love hearing about people's experience with Kill Team. Happy I stumbled across your channel. 👍

Worth mentioning that Grey Knights also have access to bolter discipline, could be real good considering how many free storm bolters they run

Deathwatch was my first kill team back in 2018 as well. Always loved the deathwatch and once overkill came out I've been grabbing what I could of them, got enough models for a 1.5k army now lol. These guys and chaos marines are my go to's.

loving the format, was interested in kill team, and found your channel, deathwatch it is :-)
Tips for white scars/similar paint schemes.
1. A good animal hair brush helps a alot in getting the paint to flow smoothly. White is the one time I consider a good brush a requirement.
2.Make sure you can see the tip of the brush while loaded, if you can't there is too much in the brush.
3. Have a look at both Gryphcharger Grey and Apothecary White for shading. Those two contrast paints do so much better than regular washes when used as a glaze or pin wash.
4. For red lining I tend to use red contrast paints. Just runs off the brush easier. Do have to make sure not too loaded.
Few other tips out there but if you just want white and not wanna fiddle around with a dozen greys thats some speed tips.

I'm basically building up about 6 or so kill teams for friends who just want to come over and play, so I'm not MARRIED to this idea that these are "my" guys or whatever, so I'm not hell bent on them all being hyper-optimized... so, I'm pretty much using your video as a guide.

This is great advice. The one thing the DW Vets box lacks from their loadout options is a plasma gun for the gunner.

My bases are really simple, it’s some texture/basing paint from Vallejo or Citadel and then I just do some light dry brushing upwards on their fit. Super simple, but it helps tie the model in with their base.

@@mrpink8228 I actually had a primaris scale DW Vet team for KT2018, but they weren’t legal, so I scrapped them. I always use Assault Intercessor bodies as a base because I like the dynamic poses and the little armor pieces on the hips. Regular Intercessors look too skinny at the hips for me. And then I just used a box of DW Vets for all the weapons and stuff. The scale difference on the arms isn’t too bad IMO. If you have any hooded Eliminator heads, they work great too.

Excellent content! Thank you. Quick question, why do you prefer a frag cannon over the infernus heavy bolter? Seems as though the heavy bolter hitting on 3+ with 5 dice almost guarantees a crit giving you AP1 and couple that with bolter discipline to shoot twice and a suspensor system to allow movement and you’re an absolute menace on the table. Your thoughts?
Hey, I’m glad you asked! A few reasons why I always go with the Frag…
The ability to have one gun with multiple profiles is so useful. The frag profile will absolutely destroy guardsmen or cultists that are close together. I’ve killed 3 cultists at once thanks to the frag profile having blast. AND the shell profile has guaranteed AP on it, and better damage. I don’t like leaving things up to chance.
With the frag cannon, you can kill a marine in 2 crits, not super likely, but possible. Not possible with the IHB.
One of the biggest things is that the frag doesn’t have the Heavy keyword on it, so it doesn’t affect your movement. That’s means you don’t need to spend equipment points on suspend or system, and you do my favorite thing which is move to get a shot, delete whatever you’re shooting at with one shot and then duck back into cover. With and IHB, if you want to shoot twice, you’re stuck out on the open if you need to move to get LOS. This is huge for me. You’re precious heavy gunner can’t get shot off the board if he’s hiding behind some chunky heavy cover lol.
I know people love bolter discipline, and I think it’s awesome, but I think it can be a crutch. I’ve honestly never regretted taking the frag, and I’ve seen people all time take the IHB and get punished for it. I mean, this is really just my opinion, but I feel like the frag is absolutely the better choice 9 times out of 10.
Also, if the enemy team doesn’t have scary shooting, you can still leave your frag in a good spot to make use of overwatch. That’s a little trickier and dangerous to set up, but if you can do it, it’s devastating.

Hey man, thanks for the comment! 😂 The only primaris team I’ve played is Assault Intercessors, and they didn’t do well at all lol. Unless they give us access to a mixed primaris team, they’re pretty handicapped.
I biggest piece of advice is to take the frag cannon. I see a lot of people taking the infernus heavy bolter so you can double tap it with bolter discipline, but the frag cannon has been a delete button for me in every game. I killed 3 neophytes that were bunched up one time with it and I was sold.
Other than that, if you want to go straight up half melee and half shooting, you could do a frag cannon heavy, a plasma gunner, a leader with storm shield and power weapon, a fighter with whatever you like and then a flex model with DW bolter and power weapon.
Another option is 5 guys with DW bolters and power weapons 😂 it’s the ultimate flex list, and I think it has some legs with bolter disciple honestly. I’ve typed all this out with a baby and a toddler on my chest, so I hope it’s somewhat coherent! 😂

I love the them as a kill team its really cool having really different looking models that can each do something different. However, idk how good they are, they crumble pretty hard against stuff like Scions, Pathfinders, even the standard guardsmen can give these guys a hard time.
Yeah, DW and all marines aside from chaos are basically bottom tier right now!
@@battlebrotherstabletop Yeah I really hope they help them out in the future, maybe a white dwarf team or something. Its nice not having to buy more than one kit to build a team, but I feel like the Primaris Marines really suffer from a lack of versatility. That and they just get out activated each turn, it always feels like you need kill at least 2 or 3 enemy operatives turn 1 to have a chance at objectives.

@@battlebrotherstabletop Yes Logans Fingers and Fredrick's Claw are both Lightning claws Logans Fingers was aquired during the liberation of the Howlett System and Fredrick's Claw was gifted to Franz by night lords master craftsman Fredrick Elmstrrasser.(The only reason there is a duplicate loadout is the contents of the Mark III box made it easiest to build this way) As for the rest Sol's Warmth is Plasma gun, Breath of the Phoenix a Meltagun, Emperors Light is a flamer, Luna's Kiss is a heavy Bolter, Traitors Bane is a Missile Launcher, Solar Flare is a plasma pistol, Emperors Fury is a Xenophase blade (counts as from power sword), Emperor's Grace and Emperor's Might are storm shields, Churchill's edge is a power weapon, The Archaeotech Pistol is meant to cout as a Deathwatch boltgun as I didn't want to re-model Kenji and finally the Four chainswords, Stihl, Makita, Husq, and Varna.
I bought a deathwatch team the same night I watched this, I watch it a few times, pro acryl white , it is crazy good coverage, I even used it today to paint a imperial fist shoulder pad, white over black perfect for yellow which is as transparent as shit.
Dope! Deathwatch are about as good as marines get right now for kill team lol. I keep hearing good things about pro acryl white, actually pro acryl everything! Will have try it out. Thanks for the comment🙏

i personally run a leader and fighter with shield and power maul. I'm a big fan of stun and there just aren't enough power mauls floating around out there. I ended up building guys with dw bolters as well, initially i played grey knights and felt that bolter discipline with storm bolters was pretty filthy but the power weapon that comes with dw bolter guys puts then just over the storm bolter
Dope! I haven’t run the mauls yet, but I have them magnetized. I tend to lean towards the power weapon as the sweet spot, but I haven’t really used much of stun in melee, so I should probably try it out. I’ve loved the heavy thunder hammer though.
I’m really thinking about the DW shotguns. I’m actually magnetizing them rn. Only thing is no bolter discipline, but we’ll see how it goes.
@@battlebrotherstabletop I haven't messed around with shotguns much but i have a friend who likes them. I think the stun is good on offense because you get to at first so if you roll that 6 you put 5 damage into them and take away one of their successes, the fact that it's a defensive ability in addition is really useful. if you get no 6's you just use your shield to parry 2 hits.

Well, I don’t love the idea not having the power weapon, but I think all the profiles are really good. Xenopurge especially looks really good to me, and I like how the long range profile is just the Vengance SIA. Now that I’m thinking about it, I’m going to try running a few in my next game, actually. Xenopurge would eat guardsman or gaunts for lunch.

Well, I always go for the Frag because it actually doesn’t have the heavy rule oddly enough. I know bolter disciple is really tempting on the IHB, but if you have him standing still, he’ll get destroyed as I’m sure you’ve probably experienced lol. The frag is so versatile, too. I’m a Frag man all the way.
The other part of my brain thinks an interesting DW build is 4 dudes with bolters and swords with a heavy gunner with IHB. That way you’ll really get your money’s worth out of bolter discipline.

so I know this video is about 2 years old now. and alot of things have changed over those two years but one thing that has not been made clear as of yet. In general for deathwatch, how does chapter tactics and battle honors work with deathwatch?

Deathwatch definitely stand out for the marines, 1 extra tac is not going to make the difference between special issue and power weapons. Compared to the primaris they actually have choices.

@@battlebrotherstabletop As a dedicated First Born player it is just tacs or scouts for me. I do have some nids and a overkill set of cultists who are waiting on reinforcements.
Also the reason the frag cannon is the choice is that it is not heavy. With only 5 models you do not want to have to make the decision between moving and shooting. You can spend 9 inches to get on that vantage point, shoot once and then overwatch also. Rinse and repeat to bring the weapon into position.
Hey I recently got a box of death watch, and I really like how you made the seargant's xeno blade look. Im curious how you turned the the xeno blade into a polearm, it looks super sick. I have a guess that you chopped up one or both of the thunder hammers and clipped the sword just under the guard, sanded and reglued, then wrapped it in green stuff "parchment."
So i cut a thunder hammer that came in the death watch kit just under the top hand, then I cut the bottom of where the hammer head connects to the shaft as well as where it connects to the cabling and you now have the hammer in two pieces. I then carefully cut the where the top hand connects to the top of the shaft, being careful to get a straight line and saving as much of the connecting bit as possible. I tried really hard to keep the bit of cabling but it wouldn't have fit to the handle very well, perhaps someone more savvy than I can green stuff it or something, but I had to cut this as well. then I cut the sword same as shown in the vid. Then I carefully sanded the cuts just to clean them up a bit, carefully filed off the bottom hand to be as close to flush as possible. I then glued the connector piece to the sword hilt, the connector piece to the top of the hand, and the bottom of the shaft to the bottom of the hand.
It turned out spectacularly.

If you're curious about how it turned out I could send it over discord or something. I've since started working on a warp coven team, I made sure not to prime them yet lol.

Thanks, man! You know, I was super close, but I just don’t think the blue is that chaos-y. Also, idk I’m up for painting lightning bolts everywhere 😂 you have any advice for painting Night Lords???
@@battlebrotherstabletop yeah lots. Do you mean a recipe? I start with a dry brush of true copper from army painter then base the panels with deep blue from army painter. Just that gives a striking model.
Also they're not blue, they're In Midnight Clad :) ...the Night Lords are great to paint because they have so much interesting conversion opportunities based on their lore. Extra body parts, chain glaives, gory trophies, winged helmets, skull iconography. The lighting is a bit of a pain, but it is so iconic and striking. Along with the red winged helmets, they makes the Night Lords actually Night Lords
Of course, don't use the GW/FW NL helmets...they're kinda awful.
@@chaznightlord8664 I like any recipe that starts with dry brushing lol. I will definitely have to give it a go eventually. The kitbashing is what really interests me. Chains and bones for dayz
@@battlebrotherstabletop Of course there's a lot more detail work after the copper and blue. I love all the kitbashing and conversions Ive done for my Night Lords. Getting a variety of heads with batwings and other unique elements and such to reflect the tattered and terrifying aspect of the Night Lords is the most fun part of KT for me.

Im gonna make a DW team but using intercessor bodies and still fielding them as veterans. Find the DW vet bodies just too tiny... should i go go the big powersword on the leader?

Oof, bummer. Box art is two swords, right? You could just run it as dual lightning claws, that’s legal and pretty decent in the new edition.

I think GW's approach to how the Deathwatch KT is structured is fundamentally flawed in KT21. The copy/paste of the team structure from other factions/Fire Teams really shouldn't apply to a Deathwatch Kill Team. They are the elite, best of the best, and the best at what they do. While it's nice to be able to use all the different bits to make your Veterans in the box look like a 40K squad, there really was no need to go that route.
There's 2 Heavy Thunder Hammers in the box and you can run 2 HTH in your squad (Watch Sgt & Fighter). Realistically though, no DW KT is going to host 2 different guys specialised in the same niche weapon. It's a flavour fail.
On the flip side, running both an Infernus Heavy Bolter and a Frag Cannon on the same 5-man squad wouldn't have caused comment until you had to choose between them. Remember DW weren't a top tier faction in KT18 and you could run 1x IHB alongside 3x Frag in addition to whichever Watch Sgt you put hiding at the back of the board. Here you can't even run 1 of each. Not having the option for both is a huge flavour fail.
If we could run it back, here's my take on how the Deathwatch Veteran Fire Team should be structured (based on the 1-box-1-team concept GW seems to be leaning on in this edition):
Fire Team of 5 Veterans
3 lists of possible loadouts:
- All the weapons molded with 2-hand carries (Frag, IHB, HTH, Twin-claws, Shotgun etc.)
- All the weapons & equipment molded with ony left-hand carries
- All the weapons & equipment molded with only right-hand carries
You may choose any weapon or equipment only once on your roster.
For any operative, you may choose either one option from the 2-handed carry list or one option from each of the right- and left-hand carry lists.
When composing your Fire Team, choose any 5 guys.
If one or your operatives carries a Xenophase Blade, he is your Watch Sgt. Otherwise, choose any operative to be your Watch Sgt.
That's it. Nothing more complicated than that. No extra bits or weapons, no "heavy" or "fighter" restrictions.
This "one of each specialities each with a convoluted list of restrictions" stuff is not for me. I really dislike how they have done this team and feel that it's a disservice to the fluff and how much more fun the faction could be in-game.

That’s pretty interesting to hear, thanks for writing all that out! Strangely enough, I actually feel like DW are one of the more flexible teams there are as far as load outs. I do agree with you though, I’d like to be able to run the frag and IHB together.
I think your solution is good and keeps things simple. Since I’m a month late to reply, have your thoughts on this changed at all after playing more games of the new edition?

Very true, DW suck right now. Once they get a bespoke team or a white dwarf team, I’m sure they’ll be much better.
