Are you up for the Intercession Squad Kill Team Hobby Challenge???
The 30 days starts now! Winner gets a kill team box, and bragging rights that last forever. My the odds be ever in your favor....?
Battle Brothers Tabletop is a dude in a room trying his best. More cool videos are on the way, and hopefully will be coming out weekly. Working on some ways to get more consistent with uploads, so thanks for hanging around and supporting. You folks are dope.
#killteam #warhammer40k #gamesworkshop - Hry
that pro-tip is called let the wookie win.
Oh, that's good. Pinned.
I'm watching this video at 12am with the baby monitor right next to me, so I was very confused when I start to hear crying.
Parenting + Hobby isn't easy and you still manage to bring us quality content. Keep up the good work and I can't wait to see those Flame Hawks.
Hobby dads unite ✊
Oh man, that’s the truth! Thanks, brother. Oh man I’ll never live these flame eagles down 😂
I'd like to chime in on the "don't wreck newbs" conversation I see pop up all the time. I 100% agree with you. For the longest time, the wargaming/TTRPG community in my area was punishingly unforgiving and super insular. People would unapologetically crush new players and kids and then the next release cycle they'd be complaining that there is no one to play with. It didn't matter if it was MTG, Counterstrike or Warhammer...it was a tough time to be a newb in the 90s and early 2000's. Thanks to youtube, discord and the podcast scene I feel like the wargaming and tabletop community are more open and accessible than they've ever been.
Keep up the good content and positivity.
Totally agree with you on that. There's a lot of sweaty players out there in wargaming, and they've turned a lot of folks away from the hobby.
Thanks a ton! That's really cool to hear. Thanks for watching and listening! 🤙
Definitely agree with your thoughts on this being a great team for beginners that looks like it can still hang in there with more experienced players. As fun and flavorful as a lot of the box set teams can be, their generally higher model count and very specific rules means a lot of bookkeeping for a new player.
Absolutely! It's a really cool sweet spot, and I'd like to see a few more teams done in this style. I like the stripped down teams lol. Less for my brain to have to think about 😂
I only got into Kill Teams 3 weeks ago and totally hooked and just made my intercessor kill team which I will be playing with in a game next week, I cant to see how they get on =)
Wow you have a lot of teams under your belt for only 3 weeks 😂 yeah, let us know how it goes. They look super cool!
I'm the person driving kill team at my local store. Started with me and another player then have successfully recruited 2 more with a bit more interest shown from some others.
I really like your tip about using blooded or vet guard as basically cannon fodder for a new player to run through. I was considering selling them from moroch but now I'll paint them up as an intro game team for me to use
Oh man, that’s awesome! Keep spreading the gospel of Kill Team 😂 Thanks! It’s worked well for me so far
@@battlebrotherstabletop I'm doing my best! We have a fairly big 40k community but im finding getting players to switch over (like I did) very difficult. But I'll keep fighting the good fight!
I do have someone waiting for necrons to get rules to try it out so fingers crossed one of the next couple of boxes have something for him
Strongly agree with everything you've said here. Games Workshop have really hit their stride with this game and it's a great time to be a Kill Team player.
This team has a great chance to grow the player base, so I’m all for it. I’m looking forward to seeing those Flame Eagles, too! And lastly, I’m a morning commute listener, but I love the photoshopped thumbnails on your KTC podcast videos!
A lot of Compendium teams could easily be given a power boost using this model I think: 5-6 datasheets with a few options, choice of buffs, free PDF release.
I have never played KT or any 40K however when I saw the free rules I went out and bought a box of Intercessors. I think it was a good move to put the rules up for free. Cant wait to get em painted and find someone to teach me the game.
That’s awesome! You’re gonna love it. Where are you located? May be able to help you get connected with some players
@@battlebrotherstabletop Im in Tokyo; I have played Warcry a few times and think I can find some peeps here that play KT. I heard it is popular among the military here.
I've been waiting since launch of 2nd edition for this team. Forget the newbies, I'm maining my Space Wolves for the rest of the year. 🤣 Intercessors are great models and fun to kitbash/customize. I agree about it being better than 40k. My experience with 40k Bros has been different unfortunately. Most of them I have talked to REFUSE to play Kill Team. It's wild.
Dude, my too! Now that Legionaries and Primaris are here, that's all I'll be running lol.
I've also had some "different" experiences with 40k players, too. Worst game of anything I ever played was with a 40k player mansplaining kill team to me and he was getting it all wrong lol.
I just put together a intercession killteam for my brother to try playing with. I agree this killteam is the perfect starting spot for newcomers. I also agree killteam is a better game than 40k. Currently enjoying Horus heresy as well, but still like killteam better.
HH does look super cool! Like how they're leaning closer to alternating activations.
Before jumping into Kill Team, I watched a few battle reports, and Space Marines seemed a little lackluster. When I saw the Intercessor Kill Team, I thought these seem like real space marines that have flavor, and some staying power. Not sure why they didn't have a few more options for the gunner, but hey I guess you can't have your cake and eat it too. I bought a box of Intercessors, and a box of Assault Intercessors. I planned to make two teams, a Blood Angel in your face team (maybe great for Gallow Dark), and a shootie Ultra Marine team. Finished the Blood Angels, with two different Sergeant options (hand flamer, powerfist and heavy bolt pistol with power sword). Working on the Ultra Marines now. can't wait to go into the space hulk Gallow Dark.
I also think this has been one of my favorite kill teams, Yes it still suffers from primaris lack of squad options, but they have enough flex-ability where you can use them as a 'template' rules wise. If you really wanted you could represent the aux gl intercessor gunner with a missile launcher (firing light frag and krak) with a boltgun slung around his shoulder. You want your sergent to instead represent a psyker or sorcerer? Model him as such but his powers are basically a plasma pistol (Gets hot is basically your perils), And I do enjoy them bringing back the chapter tactics for added customization even If I feel they have a few too many 'very good' options which for all but hyper narrative reasons can beat out some situationally ok ones.
I freaking love the Psyker leader with hot plasma as powers. That's super dope.
Yeah, for sure! It's a great plug and play team. Super happy with it. Chapter tactics are awesome.
My favorite Killteam so far…. As a Space Marine loyalist player, I wasn’t to happy with the Phobos strike team. They’re great and all, but I’m playing space marines. I don’t want to hide behind cover and have a ability that switches me back and forth to concealed. I want a fucking 8 foot tall, Power Armor wearing, Plasma pistol slanging, Xenos slashing space marine. And finally my buddy Kevin over at games workshop pushed some executives around and BAM!. The intercessor Killteam was born and by god is it fun to play. They are fast, tanky, aggressive, & strong as hell, literally wrecking balls coming up the board. Having bolter/assault discipline as an ability is so strong. The chapter Tactics are incredible it’s hard to just choose 2, When their is so many good options to choose from. The extra wounds make them feel like literal tanks on the field, Constantly taking damage and either just shrugging it off or taking it at face damage, Because you just have so many wounds. And the equipment is just amazing, What a toolbox to pick from, the rule change that pretty much ending grenade spam was the best thing the Devs have done. This is by far my favorite bespoke Killteam thus far.
Dude, one hundred percent agree with this! Phobos do absolutely nothing for me, don't like that style of play for marines either. I want god killers, not sneaky boys. I only have one match in, but I'm sold on them too.
While I think these are all good points, to me the coolest thing about the Intercession Squad is the compendium like way of roster building. I really missed that. It's much more fun than the "pick 10 specialists from this list of 11" :)
Oh, definitely. You will actually be taking different teams against certain matchups. Love it
Having a working skirmish system is imo crucial to the future if the game. And it is good to see Kill team being something more then " play 3 games and buy a 1000$ army for w40k"
So true. I think this edition of Kill Team will be around for a while!
I know Kasrkins are coming, but I do like the lore aesthetic of Scions. I wonder if we may ever see something similar with regimental traits rolled out for Scions (or Guard in general)?
I’d hope so! I think Kasrkin are for sure coming, and I will be running my Scions as Kasrkins for sure 😉
Lot of space marine players from 40k are gonna jump on this team I think. Definitely a great addition.
I was wondering if you and the KTC guys have thought about bringing FFA/4-player games into your content one way or another (be it on the podcast or in a seperate video). As someone who runs it here and there, I think it's relatively easy to adapt the rules to the format and it is also great for casual-/new players, if done correctly.
Would be interesting to hear your take on it 😉
I know Rhys does that a lot with his mates, so I'm sure he can speak to it! Yes, I'm sure we can talk about that on the pod sooner or later! Would be interested to hear how you do it!
@@battlebrotherstabletop I actually stole Rhys' idea about using 1½ boardsize! Though I think a standard board is good if you want a fast paced, action packed game from the get-go. In general I recommend missions where all players have the same objective to score - Atleast to get going. I am experimenting with the idea of making more nuanced missions, where your interaction with more than 1 player factors in. Something that borrows some design principles from the missions found outside matched play, but adapted to a FFA/4-player format.
For FFA, in short, it is a mix of open/matched play. Right now I try to run the game as much as possible as it is in the 1v1 format. When we sit down and play as 3-4 persons, we don't expect too much in terms of balance. Each player activates an operative/overwatches on their turn. Each players gets 2 barricades and we skip the scouting phase, instead rolling for initiative and for deploying our operatives. Equipment we include as well however it is dependant on how experienced the other players are.
This does make overwatch and some traits/abillities that rely on a single activation a bit weaker. For example Blinding Aura (Novitiates) will shield you from one opponent but not the other. However one problem is how you handle 2 opposing operatives being in engagement range, while an operative from a third player is activated. So far we have played that this does not prevent the third player from taking a shot at one of the two. After playing this for a while, I think it might take away a bit too much protection from fight-heavy teams and honestly I just enjoy using engagement range for more than just the fight action. In terms of fluff, letting the two operatives have their "Let them fight"-moment also works and makes those engagements more exciting. In addition FFA is great for players that like to create uneasy alliances and try to overthrow the leading player(s) - Something that both an experienced and new player can appreciate.
Now for 2v2 we have played with basically 4 teams (seperate CP pools, activations etc.) however each team does share their tac ops and they get to pick 1 category as usual. For this mode we essentially play just like regular 1v1 Kill Team, though this has imo led to more moments where a faction or combination of factions become incredibly strong. We might have to work on this, but I believe each player taking half their usual team size would make for a more fast paced/fun game - While still letting them feel like an individual team.
Yes its accessible in theory in reality even if you have 5 marines you still need the counters, barricades and the special dice, either for GW or some Etsy guy.
If Kill Team were dying, there's no way we'd be staring down a year of scheduled box set releases. In my area, it's just picking up steam - early on, there was some negative press out there that I think led to misunderstandings about Kill Team as a game. Those assumptions are starting to fall by the wayside and people are getting curious, which makes the free Intercessor team super good.
Couldn’t agree more!
I'm still sad its so hard to mix models from different units. They could have very easily let you take a few heavy ints but the current team structure feels really restrictive
Played it last week, they're excellent. They're exactly what I wanted from KT (I played Intercessors and Incursors) and I think my KT tournaments wouldn't have been suffering with this team lol
I finally got a game in with them and really loved it! They feel so good. I agree, just what I wantd
I remember when our local gaming store started to get into war machine. One of the people from privateer came show us how play etc.. Since there was 7 of us, I got stuck with the dude from privateer.. he destroyed me..
Great news for Killteam!
This is the best thing to happen to the game.
Also, i built a white scars team just for new players
While some of the Elites were overkill, GW does need to lean into the special forces squad theme they are doing with their released teams.
The old teams just need a couple specialist options for each, even just the old sniper/demolition/heavy weapons, to bring back some of the tactics and frankly be a bit more interesting, otherwise the system seems to be getting fairly good.
I'm so happy for this team. I'm already happy with Legionaries but It's excellent for the health of the game.
My thoughts exactly. Legionaries and Intercessors will probably be what I play the most now
Nice work
Thanks my man 🤘
Well I have 3 intercessors from Doomsday countdown and 5 assault intercessors from Fireteam game.
Go easy on the new guy? No way, I gotta show my superiority by destroying them! That'll get m in the hobby!
Gotta show em who’s boss!
Ok.
Space marines.
But WHICH space marines would make up a kill team? (Commander, specialist, comms, medic(?)?)
How many intercessors? (I've heard that six marines are enough.)
Which weapons? (Rifles, pistols, knives, swords, heavy weapons, etc.)
For example:
I have five basic intercessors (sergeant (?) with four troops, all with bolt rifles and one with Auspex) I also have three Rievers (sergeant with two troops, all with bolt pistols, knives, grenades and grappling hooks). And I have one Lieutenant (with plasma pistol and sword, along with a shield).
Would it be enough to have:
Lieutenant with plasma pistol, sword and shield (as leader and veteran status).
One marine with Auspex and bolt rifle (as comms specialist).
Two marines with bolt rifles.
Two Rievers with bolt pistols and knives, along with grenades and grappling hooks.
Here’s the free official rules for an Intercessor Kill Team:
www.warhammer-community.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/5a7RlS5vbFWvaWZD.pdf
You’ll need one more Intercessor, or you’ll need to proxy a Reiver as an Assault Intercessor (probably fine, just clarify with your opponents).
@@willroberts4993 Thanks for the useful link 👍
It seems I'd have to proxy most of my models, or just build a dedicated intercessor Kill Team from one or two box sets. (Unless I were to play by the old rules, which was what I built my intercessor team for in the first place, just before the relaunch of Kill Team!)
A mix of 6 Intercessors and assault Intercessors! There’s a few stipulations, but if you read up on the free PDF they released it will explain better than I could!
@@battlebrotherstabletop Thanks! It would certainly be great to have a space marine kill team. I'm only now painting the models from the Octarius box set, which I received a year ago: I really wanted the Deathguard of Kreig and Ork Commandos. Putting the Ork Commandos up against some Marines would be cool!
I haven’t played space marines since 3rd edition black templars & I have have primaries marines on sprues lmao
As someone who hasn't played a game of kill team yet (despite owning kommandos) I can finally have a second army to play with people, or play by myself
It’s perfect! Oh man, you’ll love it. Kill team is such a good game
@@battlebrotherstabletop Oh i dont doubt it, I just have terrain to paint, my friend has the vet guard, so many reasons to play it but it never happens haha
Kill team is good and its make me wanna try build a 500pts Astra militarum
Super hyped for the next release
I can’t wait for tomorrow
@@battlebrotherstabletop same, my wallet is gonna get spaaaanked hard though
@@BB-pn2qv I don't even want to think about it. Probably just going to do the New box and the annual. Will have to recover a bit before I buy the Gellerpox and rogue traders lol
Maaaan that pro tip... I quit playing 40k in 08' after about.. 6 months because the local hobby store owner was a Tau player that would always make campaigns that gave him the best advantage. I played grey knights, so he'd always deploy as far as possible back and just wipe me off the board with no contest, while cackling in classic mean nerd fashion.. needless to say, he won every tournament and campaign and ruined the experience for me.
Losers like that are what turn people away from the hobby. I’ve definitely had similar experiences, and it really sucks. There are good folks to play with, I swear!
Eff that guy for ever. Find you some folks like Ben to play with, I swear they are out there.
Alright Ben, so when are we gonna see some Iron snakes???
As soon as I can find an excuse to use Mark 7 power armor 😂
Hype
Very hype, indeed
You "don't" mean stealing them
Don't worry man I got the message 😉
You, as a jewel thief should know just what I mean 😉
@@battlebrotherstabletop huh, so thats what was in the briefcase
Your're right. You already have or need their models anyway. Why not give out free teams? Sweet Salamanders, Russ and Rhys are just jealous...
Josh is the man! 🤘they just don’t understand me
This is great! Hope they release a real ork team and not these soft sneaky gits in the Kommandos!
Oh man..... what are you talking about? What’s more fun than crushing a twelve year old kid playing her first tabletop game? Laughing at them, calling them names, telling them their paint job sucks. Then stealing their stuff when they run off to cry in the bathroom. 😜 But kidding aside, the first game should always be a win for the new player. The trick is to take it easy, without seeming to take it easy.
ive played like 5 games with my assault intercessors with the base rules and stuff and have gotten destroyed every time. Totally ruined the new version of KT for me :\
