  • Player skill matters so much more than your team at most levels of play! Bespoke teams are "better" but that doesn't mean we should tell folks that they shouldn't start out with the Compendium if they already have the models.

    Ty for the comments about the power weapon - oops! No power weapon and shotgun for the Deathwatch, just shotgun. Still pretty solid!

    Also an upside of compendium is it can be easier to make precisely the team you want from a hobby/faction perspective! If you're really committed to a team for the lore, I'd recommend digging in with the compendium teams first so you can vibe with your faction (and then pick up a bespoke team if and when you're ready to).

    I've been playing compendium Ecclesiarchy for my entire KT career. Overall I find that for what they lack in bells and whistles, they make up in flexibility. Pivoting from full shooty to fighty monsters allows me to set the tone of the match.

    As someone that just got started with KT, I am so happy I started with compendium scouts instead of one of the box sets. Every single scout you own has the same defense dice and save score, as well as all but one of them having the same wounds. 3 snipers, 2 heavies, 4 warriors and a leader gives you enough room to stretch out and consider options from every vantage, boardstate, and enemy distance. A few special rules such as the camo cloak the snipers get and the difference between frag and krak launchers gives you a good keyhole into niche rules. Beyond that, it 100% up to your brainpower to figure out how to best set up your guys. Looking into the legionnaires as my second team, I was blown away and felt super out of my depth when I saw just how much went into them before even placing your figures in the game, and definitely would've been lost, uncomfortable, and discouraged from playing more had I started with them.

    Deathwatch is great! The Warrior cannot get a shotgun and a power weapon though. Only boltgun + power weapon is possible.

    They definitely don't suck for learning. I'm currently running through the first 10 games process with a guy at my LGS... he's running greenskins against my Corsairs, and right now, we're at 2-2.
    Last game felt more like it leant heavily towards me, but I was changing things up.
    If you're just learning the game and already have minis, the compendium teams work perfectly well.

    I have a scout Kill Team and it's my favorite team to play. I really wanted Arbities before they got a bespoke team, so I use almost all shotguns with a sniper and missile launcher and they do great.

    We’ve had hive fleet, deathwatch, grey knights, custodes and death guard players in our local meta. Compendium teams are not something you should take lightly! Especially ITD.
    Their main weakness is predictability - if you know what they do, you can play around them with a bespoke team. But that requires skill on the bespoke players side to maximise their team. You put a compendium team in the hands of Ace, he’s probably still beating your average player.

    Im a lil new to kill team and was lookin for some advice. I play vet guard and my friend plays legionaries, it kinda keeps happening where he will place everyone on next to a vantage point, move on it, shoot then dash off, he has 2-3 people keep doing this every tunring point. I might kill 1 and score more om primary but in the end he gets all his seek and destroy secondaries and we end with a tie. Ill kill like 4 of his im left with 2. I tend to stay in cocseal alot since id rather score on primary but he just shoots me off the board everytime

    • @harris4723

    • @VentrueMinis
      @VentrueMinis  Před rokem +3

      Remember, vantage points only ignores light cover, not heavy cover! Use heavy cover and obscuring to your advantage. I have a video coming soon about how to deploy defensively.

    • @harris4723
      @harris4723 Před rokem +1

      @VentrueMinis oh youre a gem, i think since we're new we've been playing terrain wrong. Basically we have mirrored board with 1 piece of heavy terrain next to each of our drop zones, all objectives and everything inbetween is light cover. I really wanna get into the dark terrain but the boxes keep sellin out :0

    • @VentrueMinis
      @VentrueMinis  Před rokem +1

      @@harris4723 definitely have heavy terrain in the middle of the board! Heavy terrain goes in the middle. It should block line of sight from one drop zone to another.

      Care to explain why you think so?

    • @imdurant
      @imdurant Před rokem +2

      @@VentrueMinis perhaps I should rephrase my comment. I believe that the are similar in this level of skill required, yet the ease with which one can purchase and paint a meta kill team is magnitudes greater than purchasing, painting and tuning a meta 40k army. Thus, this fact combined with the frequent amounts of busted white dwarf teams (void troupe, wyrm coven) and new box releases (beast men, pathfinders) mean that it is much easier to use overpowered teams. While the disparity between good and bad might be similar between 40k and kt, it is exacerbated to to kill team’s scale.
