- Kill Team Chalnath Expansion and Tau Pathinders, never a finer pairing was there! Tau Empire Pathfinders from Kill Team Chalnath seem very strong and these new rules are great!
End of the video messed up, but they

For the Kill Team Pathfinders it's too early to tell just how useful markerlights will be, but I think Tau might just be one of the strongest teams out there!

Great! I’ll just wait for the upgrade sprues to sell separately then, coz I still have my Tau Pathfinders from the 2018 KillTeam Starter Box!
@@theanimaster those models aren't actually Pathfinders, those are regular Fire warriors
Everytime he said stuff like "I don't need to tell you this, everyone knows that" I died a little because I never played the new Killteam Edition, just got this box and wanted to know the rules
Yeah same...
Not to mention where he just went "oops stopped recording" and then didn't go over those things again.
I shall find a better video.
Same Bruh, most people who are watching this are trying to figure out how to play
Same. Which is why I was watching in the first place
Recon Drone back up to 4 Defense? 😝 Pulse Accelerator has 4 Defense too...
I purchased a painted Tau kill team on Facebook today for a good price. I’m quite pleased
With regards to marker lights you can use them from concealed so you can move and marker light instead of move dash or if you are keep a guy concealed on an objective they can still build up markerlights
So against my friend who plays them he would roughly pop 1 or 2 markerlights a turn just due to using it on his concealed operatives
Yes that's a fair point. I had always been thinking of MLs as being something done instead of moving or as well as shooting and ending up being very niche. But yeah okay, staying concealed, moving, ploys everywhere giving you a free dash, you can have a lot of MLs on the board after turn 1.
There's going to be SO MANY Tau everywhere :P
@@GlassHalfDead my friend also was only running 2 dudes with markerlights actually and ended up using them most turns since you don't need line of sight just visibility
Main reasons to use you have good vantage already and your not planning to move so marker shoot
You don't have a good legal shooting target
And while concealed you pop a marker down
So we think he may end up using 4-5+ a turn just because we think the markerlight drone will be a great concealed objective holder
After your review, I was actually pretty intrigued by this faction. It does seem powerful, but also very fun and multi-faceted. On top of that I had a feeling it would really be able to handle Talons, which I normally find an unpleasant matchup. Tried a practice game, Chalnath v Talon...3 Custodians died on turn 1. Gonna need to try a second matchup and see if I can play the Talons any better, but man, there is no hiding from these guys. Put out 10 markerlights on turn 1 in the process of getting the 3 kills.
Since this video, I've been thinking on them more and have changed my tune on markerlights. I think that the only thing holding Tau back will be terrain. But the enemy will always be markerlit up, that's all but inescapable.
They will crumble if the objectives are covered by terrain and they're against a melee team. But that's expected.
Luckily I already made my prediction that these will be a top team, so I'm still safe :D
The thing about markerlights in the game I played was that a lot of the tau were concealed the first turn - so putting a marker was pretty much the only thing they could do, aside from moving to make themselves easier to charge (if you see anything that says they can't mark while concealed, let me know). On top of that, Custodes are probably the very best team to mark, because you're happy to devote 1/2 your team to killing 1 of them. If you're playing a team with a lot of models, it might be higher value to set things up to just shoot everyone.
Awesome thanks, I get almost all my info from you sir
Love the camera angle. Thank$ buddy.
Am I right in thinking that if you wanted to go deep into this team, a second box of standard 40k pathfinders would do you, no need to track down a second copy of the Kill Team sprue?
exactly, even better if you already have them.
this is exactly what I did! Sadly still doesn't give you enough to build all six drones - just five including the recon drone - but I had a spare shield drone from my Tau Commander so no problem there for me. Otherwise yeah, the second box of regular pathfinders can help you build 2 of each weapon's expert which is the only other thing you need to fill out a matched play roster tbh. The main benefit of the chalnath box is the lovely upgrade sprue that gives you the special operative options + new heads.
I have always had faith in the greater good best thing is we can expect those grenades in the new codex!!
I've been telling myself "I've got compendium T'au to play at home with. I don't need Chalnath T'au"...
I need Chalnath T'au...
Thanks GHD. My wallet hates you though 😂
Oh my dude, you definitely need pathfinders :P
Like, it will play so differently to the Compendium, that if you like Tau, you probably want both!
@@GlassHalfDead I got a T'au tram together at the back end of the last edition and didn't get to play them. The team isn't currently legal either but I've got the models built to make it so. The upgrade sprue in the Pathfinder kit alone makes me want to buy more but these rules on top of that are cool AF!
Tram? Team* obviously.
@@MichaelWalshMusic Newbie here - can you explain why they aren’t “legal”? Is it just the weapons modeled on them? Was there a rule somewhere that says you absolutely need to model WYSIWYG when playing competitive KillTeam?
You don't need Chalnath. Just build regular Pathfinders and do some conversions.
Rad. Thanks for the extremely useful content.
I can’t believe they went back to trip rails.
IN FAIRNESS, I don't think the 2 rails are 100% mandatory. Against 8 and less wound teams, a pulse carbine is still a 2 hit kill but you get markerlights.
Having had more time to think about it, the reason Tau have so many ways of getting a free dash is because this way they can move and ML and dash. I have turned around my thoughts on ML buffs and ML tacops now. I think you'll be able to get loads off, and the more ML the better. I expect to regularly see Tau hitting on 3s!
Great video! Not sure they will overpower Kommandos though. Only having access to Recon feels rough... Doesn't seem like it's something that they can easily score either. Their faction tac ops seem good enough though. I guess time will tell!
Cheers, handy as always
Such treat thx Glass :=)
Thanks for watching!
Great coverage as always. Shame you have lost the last part. We have just started narrative in our playgroup and I went all compendium PF team (vs Warp Coven and Kommandos) and having those extra narrative asset etc. choices would help me a lot. Oh well, I will have to wait for the release.
Really happy how they turned out. Now I can counterplay those pesky Dynamites and Psychic actions more easily. :-)
Hi, couple of questions. What rules book was you reading from? Interested to know if I can play with existing models and buy just the codex or do I need the Chalnath box for the rules? I bought KT 1.0 Tau/Space Wolves January 2020 and shelved it during the pandemic, wondering how much I now need to spend again to get back in as I built my Tau but don't think they fit the new load out rules 🤔.
With those models you could build teams using the kill team compendium rule book. You’ll have exactly enough to make a Space Marine Reivers team and a Tau Fire Warrior team. If you want Pathfinders, you’d either need to generic Pathfinder team box for the compendium version or the new Chalnath box for the version in this video.
Thanks a lot! Pathfinders are like Veterans, but 2 times better.
Really nice Video, thank you for the nice insights.
Lethal only let's you retain successful hits as a critical, so an EMP grenade at an custodes would still only be hitting on 3+.
Having reread, yes, I agree!
Pathfinders looks pretty good.
So I can’t move and shoot a marker light?
Great overview - I'm even more excited for them now. A shame you lost the last part as I was looking forward to your thoughts on the ploys - any chance you cover this in a separate video?
I sent these to a guy to paint them for me. Once he sends them back I hope to do a batrep with them, and so hopefully during that I'll give them a mention!
I'm assuming they're including the default version of the operators in these so the people who don't want to buy the box will still be compelled to still buy the book & at least get the fire team
Wait. Is it possible to chain activate 3 dudes before the opponent regardless of initiative? Turn one drone controller to objective marker, deploy recon drone on or near another, turn 2-4 play A Worthy Cause - Drone controller - Recon Drone does analyse on, gee I don't know, Grenadier that has +1APL from previous turn Comms? 2 activations on objectives and third giving fusion grenade relentless (move, dash throw). Or even better on Transpectral with fusion grenade equipment, +APL from comms previous turn, Mont'Ka Art of War to Dash, Move, throw relentless Fusion and cripple another guy's APL?
are there new rules terrain-wise (there were a couple leaked on warcom), but anything else? any additional rules in the book? will you make a video about them?
There are new rules for terrain, hurt it's just the 3 shown on warcom. Doors, hatches, and punishing vantage point, so I won't be covering them :)
Did you buy a new book after the rip? Do you want to sell the ripped one at a good price?
Are these models unique to Kill Team or recycled from 40K? I want to build a small force of Farsighter T'au, based off the Boarding Patrol, and I'd like to fit these guys into that - but are they the same as the Fire Team included in that box?
Tau looks like a ton of fun to play.
Do the Tau symbols on their dice look deep enough to throw the balance off in favor of sixes?
I don't know, but time to go buy some tau dice!
Recon drone has a new ability
wait so the Recon Drone has 4 Def again...? I wonder if GW will FAQ this away again
And pulse accelerator drone too.
It's an obvious typo, yeah. What can we do, hey? GW is a small independent company that can't afford AN ENTIRE TEAM OF NARRATIVE AND TECHNICAL editors. Such a shame :(
What is that reference book I only have tau codex
I like the spiral bound book
does the new pathfinder kit have special/new bits and gear that isnt on the old pathfinder kit? I have the old pathfinder kit and dont want to buy another one lol
It does, yeah. So it's the same old kit but it has an additional upgrade sprue inside. If you have a bits box you can convert them yourself!
Where can i get this rulebook?
I inact the galactic dibs protocol on your ripped copy! Lol
I want some close combat tau which
Excited Tau noises
A short question can I put together all the options from this box, taking into account that I will magnetize them? Or is there something missing?
I believe this is the very first thing I answer in the video... but yes, you can.
@@GlassHalfDead Ok cool thanks I heard that it is impossible to assemble two same weapon expert and all types of drones.
@@user-fg5cn2re5s yes. If you magnetise the drones. And this is assuming you don't want any regular pathfinders (I'm not sure why you would)
Move your hand! Im trying to screenshot! 😅
How do I get that book. It's sick
This is the Kill Team Chalnath codex. It was available inside the large Chalnath box if you can still find that in stores, or it's available on its own now as a regularly stocked GW item.
The spiral binding is something I did myself at a local printing shop.
Those markerlight multipliers and grenades seem pretty impressive, I'm looking forward to these guys!
Yeah, since recording this I've had new thoughts on ML. I think they'll be very strong. I thought the team would be strong anyway and luckily I already finished this video by saying tau will be the strongest team so far, but damn
Yeah, ML looks interesting. I always think about how a team might deal with something like a Genestealer in Cover with a Conceal order, and these guys definitely have it. It would take 2-3AP of High Intensity MLs on the 'Stealer (which also involves some 2EP Equipment choices), but from that point on, it's got nowhere to hide.
Kinda worries me if they just overpower these to the compendium
My dude. You have to accept that the bespoke teams are better than the compendium teams. It's just how it is. Compendium was to allow us to play as they rolled the rules for others out, but Compendium isn't the game as it should be played.
This isn't talking about the business practice of this, just how KT is going forwards. No one in 40k 8th edition wanted to stay with their index after their codex released. It's meant to be the same here.
No stealth suits is a huge disadvantage compared to the compendium team. They’re easily the best unit in the Tau roster right now
Tau are back baby!!!!
I wonder how a battle between the genestealers and pathfinders would look
I think that's still gonna be a bloodbath in the genestealers favour, though they may lose the occasional model more than previously.
Yeah, I suspect a lot of AP would be sunk into Marker-Lighting 1 Genestealer so it can't hide anymore, while the other 9 are just ripping Tau heads off. Good that Tau actually HAVE a way of smoking them out, tho!
Happy Dance
I don't think emp nade is hitting on 2+ vs custo Like you said. That's just lethal 2+ rule but BS is still 3+. If you want to get that BS to 2+ get some markerlights...
I think you're probably right, yup!
MLs are specified as not affecting grenades, sadly.
The Lethal 5+ rules specifically says the shot needs to hit, and then if it does, it's a crit if it's within the Lethal range. So yep, Lethal 2+ still misses on a 2.
So it’s not a update to the Tau list, but pathfinders only. Honestly not cool if so.
thats how it's going for everything, You can't mix the Novitiates with normal Battle Sisters, Kommandos with Orks, or Krieg with Guard.
@@theswampus670 shame, really glad I didn’t buy into this system. Better to not bother than wait years for updates again, to much to play !
When the vid started i thought that book looks easy to tear, 10 mins in the book rips. I'm not a fan of the design choice.
To be clear, I got the spine cut and coil bound because it's infinitely better. I did it for my last 3 KT books too. I'll never go back! :D
@@GlassHalfDead how you choose the book
@@vynatonamikaze4501 in my original reading of the kill team core book I explain how I bound my book this way :)
So what to do against Tau... Sneak on them and hack them into little blue pieces :-P except for the Leader, the Blooded and the Big Drone they have no CC Skill at all.
Still think the DKOK is much more versatile^^
Who asked for a sprue full of smelly fish bare heads though? 🐟
