I think the concept of Gotham's powers being depending on his life force is a great fucking idea. I mean imagine him with absolute power vs darkseid. It wouldn't be a long fight, but two punches from Gotham could boost Darkseid's power threshold and as I type this it sounds more stupid than it does in my head Gotham still rocks.
Andrew Rodriguez Supergirl is too much of a teenager now. With Power Girl back on Earth 2 Gotham Girl can fill that void as an adult oriented Supergirl like character.
+Aussa Aegis Nik Vas It seems that she boosted her powers just long enough to defeat Gotham. He on the other was on the verge of burning out after single handedly defeating the Justice League.
I wonder who did they pay? I'm guessing magic or some evil version of Constantine. If it was magical of course Gotham would whoop Superman makes sense. Just every now and then S needs his cape handed 2 him.
I think the fact that he had such power, power that definitely could have helped Gotham City out a ton, makes his manipulation and death even more tragic... he spent his whole life preparing to help the city, even went so far as to "sell his soul" we to speak to get powers to do so, only to have his good intentions turned to bad in a moment and his life and purpose destroyed... pretty sad, man.
Meh. I think Gotham Girl could have some potential and I like the conditions of her power, but it all felt a little too fast paced and somewhat forced at times. Not bad. Not great. Let's see how Gotham Girl turns out; I'm curious to see if Duke finds her other G-spot... ~_~
This has beeen my favorite bat story ever. It takes everything that makes batman and turns it up to 1000. we get all the crazy tech. Millions of exploding batmobiles, crazy batcycle cover ups. matches malone. batman almost dies like 90 times and he faces it. He stops a plane from crashing and killing everyone. delving into the dead parents. alfred being awesome, and a pseudo robin. This was such a fun read for me. It screamed Batman a million times over. I respect the hell out of tom king and with that on top of david finches' art, i couldn't have asked for a better start.

i think it was a good start for Rebirth Batman. it brought us a new character like you said and it really sets the tone for how this batman and even alfred will be during tom kings run. i also think that dc doesnt want to bust it's load to early with the whole 3 jokers story and space it out so that way they keep their readers hooked longer. last is tom king is also just finishing up Vision for marvel while he was working on this arc. so now that and sheriffs of babylon is over as well. im sure you will get more in depth stories in batman
This comic brought me a few new perspectives to Batman. I like that. Also the fact that this comic left a huge question mark on the origin of Gotham's power is amusing.
It was pretty much what I thought it was: a way to have a Superman-level character without Clark's morals, even though the end result really wasn't his fault, making it a real tragedy. I don't know about keeping Gotham Girl around though; she still seems like a knock off of Super Girl, although I guess she could be an interesting enough character on her own.
The explanation of how they work was pretty cool, but not telling us where they came from was lame. Plus for a human who bought powers somehow to punk the entire league was also pretty lame. Especially Pre52 Supes. He's fought Gods before, Darkseid, and he beat Doomsday to death. So for him to stand no chance against this guy wasn't the best writing. He could've still lost, but not that easily.

I liked the story, it was tragic but it has made me look forward to Gotham girls development. Hopefully she does not get forgotten by King and they use her in stories to come. So far shes taking part in Night of the Monster Men, so all is well...so far.

Biggest plot hole was that Batman has only had this new suit for a few weeks, and yet when he saves the kids, he is seen wearing this same suit at least nearly a decade in the past. It is kind of weird because new 52 was pretty good at showing the older Batman suits to correspond to the timeline. Makes one wonder what time this event actually takes place, but with Duke as a reference it is just a major plot hole apparently.

I liked the beginning o the story, but by the start of this vid I knew how it would end, with Gotham Girl overcoming her fear and killing her bro. I really wish it had gone in a different direction, introducing these two new superheroes in Gotham and how Batman would fit into all of it. I still liked it though. The art was great, too.
Question Rob: With the premise of rebirth being that years were taken away from the DC Universe, how can we account for Gotham and Gotham Girl existing? Wouldn't some version of them had existed pre-rebirth, possibly older versions of Superman-ish crime fighters? Or are we led to believe that because of the missing time Hank's origin occurred? And if so, how do we account for them going through the"batman" training over years when new52/rebirth is only a few years for batman?

Well it is different .I thought Gotham would ended up at Arkham ,Instead he is killed off by Sister .It is all right of story for Batman ,Is the Lazurus Pit still in the Bat Cave ,Or has been taken out for this whole Rebirth thing .Than Batman could revive Gotham that way ,It just feels like it is kinda empty as story .If it just ends on such low note to it .But great video Rob and thanks for keeping me update .

I have to say I'm disappointed with how the powers were explained. DC has now introduced a way to make suicide bombers unstoppable gods if they have enough cash backing them.
what if they got their powers from the chaos gem thing kind of like how Damian got his super powers and that the reason bat man took away damians powers wasn't because he needed to be grounded back to mortality rather it was a danger to his life essence or life force??
That was different. Damian used used up all that excess energy and was returned to normal, a normal lifespan and all. Gotham power is inversely related to his lifespan. The more powerful he was the less time he had to live. He would have been dead by sundown no matter what.
If he can buy his powers, and be strong enough to be able to defeat The justice league. whats stopping any weak villains from doing the same. all the superheroes will die in a day.

Also the Lady Hokage (forgot her name) had a mystical heal jutsu that could heal anything in return for years of her life.

Not really comic books but the Druids in Terry Brooks Shannara series had the same drawback.
