Something I haven't seen anyone criticize this movie for is Kai's appearance. Po obliterated his spirit in the spirit realm. He had NO reason to show up.

Megamind 2 was done by their television studio so that's justified but they have no excuse for Kung Fu Panda 4 and that's making me worried for Shrek 5.
Tai Lung: My father figure lied to me about a title he promised I was destined for.
Shen: I committed genocide to avoid a predetermined fate, even if it got me banished by my parents.
Kai: My friend who I loved like a brother betrayed me and sent me to the Spirit Realm.
Chameleon: aM sMoLe!
Honestly her backstory could have been an animal hierarchy like, "People like you aren't meant to be fighters." It could show real world themes of Racism and races being unfairly treated. It could make her character have a more emotional and realistic level that people can relate to. She and Po would have shared the fact that they were both underestimated but overcame it. So instead The Chameleon (insert actual name) would want the staff to free the world from hierarchy, give any species the right to learn kung fu. Po would sympathize with her causing a great fold in their characters. The Chameleon steals the staff to steal everyone's kung fu so she can release it into the minds of every creature on earth. Po would defeat her and The Chameleon would be absolutely obliterated by Mr Ping.

If you listen to her in the movie, she first wanted to learn kung fu and was rejected. Only later she went into sorcery, she didn't have it before.

Kung Fu Panda brought back Ian McShane just for a few lines as Tai Lung and that sucks.
Imagine a redemption journey of Tai Lung and reconciliation with Shifu.
And they don't even bother to do anything with Kai or Shen. Even moreso, you'd think Shen, of all people, would have more to say about this.

I'd almost forgot that Po straight up murdered Tai Lung.
Lord Shen literally committed a Genocide of the pandas to where the had to go into hiding, hunted down Po because of a prophecy, took over a kingdom and was actively developing weapons of mass destruction and setting out with an armada at the end of his movie. He died HATING Po. But Po did some kung fu and beat a lizard so he's chill now.

Why didn't they go the original Shen route with the Chameleon by making her born sickly and then be rejected by every Kung Fu school? There by giving her a far better motivation than "being too small" which is goddamn ridiculous considering Mantis exist.
From what I’ve heard the co director kept wanting to add more impactful content but the main director kept shooting her down.
For every good sequel like Puss in Boots the Last Wish comes with a sequel that is unwanted like Kung Fu Panda 4

well if they weren't fated to be the Dragon Warrior before Po, what makes you think they are likely to be the Dragon Warrior after Po, especially because Po is younger than them and too old to be the Dragon Warrior now.
Honestly the whole "next dragon warrior" thing is contrived in the first place, but I'll say if it needs to happen I wouldn't want it to be the 5. They're all deserving, sure, but it almost feels like their role is cheapened if they just get hand-me-down Dragon Warrior'ing just for being Po's friends/someone he knows, considering how he first got the role. Their deeds are notable but not a pathway to just EARNING the dragon warriorhood.
@@PanSpacemanthis is why I liked the shows lore of The Furious Five, they weren’t candidates to be the Dragon Warrior, The Furious Five were the Top 5 Kung Fu Masters in all of China the 1st Furious Five members were Shifu, Master Owl, Master Elephant, and I forgot the other two, and it was said that the strongest member of the Furious Five usually turns evil so it makes sense Tai Lung wasn’t the Dragon Warrior became a default member of The Five and became evil

The Chameleon’s first impression sucks, especially compared to the other villains in this franchise. What do I mean by this? Let’s go through a roll call.
Tai Lung: escapes a said-to-be-impossible-to-escape-from prison with ease.
Shen: kills a master who’s also a rhino.
Kai: defeated Oogway after beating every Kung fu master in the Spirit Realm.
The Chameleon: kicks someone down the stairs…wow, soooo menacing. (God, the Chameleon sucked so freaking much)
The sad thing is that was the Chameleon at her evilest.
Chameleon's first impression was literally burning down an entire mine worked on by the majestic G.O.A.Ts.

The Chameleon's main feature is shapeshifting, which involves turning into other people. Not acknowledging her ability is wild.
She used Tai Lung's form to do what she did, so techinically its still something

1) Like Tai Lung cannot get to the Jade Palace before escaping prison.
2) Shen cannot conquer China without conquering Gongmen City
3) Kai cannot get to the mortal world without Oogway's chi.
4) But Chameleon, she is also already in her fort. She does not need to kill or beat anyone up. What she needs to do however is steal iron from the mines to build her cages and lure Po here to steal the Staff.
89 was not deserved. We learned earlier that all pandas left cities and fled to the mountain thing in the 3rd movie
MOST of these sins weren't deserved. CinemaSins end up missing every now and then but this whole shebang was atrocious.
Also at the end of the Third Movie you do see citizens of the valley in the Panda Village meaning they did open the roads to the village again

4:45 - 5:06 leaving a timestamp to the "I've lost count" percentage of people who had enough of Awkwafina appearing in any animated movie in recent memory.
Okay im going to say this at least once now: the reason why Kung Fu panda 4 wasnt as great as the last three is cause, okay im not sure if i got this right, but whoever decided to do the film was kind of forced to rush through it instead of having the plot which she wanted to do flesh out more.
And you can tell in the story itself. The chameleon and Zhen were going to have more of a detailed background but majority of that was cut. Plus, the Furious Five were going to show up, majority of return villains were gonna have more lines and more scenes; but again most of that was cut out
They let a director called Mike Mitchell direct it and gave him to much freedom with the movie. He didn’t want it to be long because it would bore the kids. People suggested better ideas and scenes than his (giving tai lung an actual redemption, actually having the furious five)
Even one of the artists left a week later for it been frustrating.

@@03mbc What about Chicken Run or Megamind? A majority of their catalog is adapting children's books like Shrek or How to Train Your Dragon. If you like Kung Fu Panda 4, that's great, but the heavy increase in sequels is becoming more frequent in recent years.

Frankly, yeah, if they find panda fur, it's definitely Po's. The real sin is recognizing it as panda fur in the first place.
The first KFP was pretty great. Not every movie needs a dozen sequels and thirty-two spin-offs.

One more thing, the Australian government was on the verge of deporting both of them, which if their immigration laws are anything similar to ours, deportation carries a several years long ban from the country. So yeah, pretty big fuck up. Australia doesn't have the badass level freedom of speech we have in case you were wondering.
I wish instead of the movie being about Shifu telling Po he needs to pick a successor, Shifu instead announces he wants the Furious Five to disperse across China to spread his teachings. Have THAT be the change that Po and the rest have to adapt to. Then they go have their one last big mission together to stop the Chameleon where they all realize the value in change and we get a tearful good bye at the end of the movie.
Scrap the character of Zhen entirely.

About the tree nut not growing inside a pocket, I have a counter argument. At some point during a shift I was working at a grocery store, a small clove of a garlic fell. I picked it up and put it in my pocket to throw away later, I forgot about it for 3-ish weeks and when I remembered it and took it out, it had started to sprout in my dark, dry, but warm pocket. I don’t know how, but it did; so -1 sin for pocket plants!

Honestly, this movie is fine. Is it as good as the other three Kung Fu Panda movies? No. But it's still funny, well-animated, reasonably creative, and has some nice messages for kids AND adults to chew on. So for the weakest movie in a film quadrilogy to still be reasonably good, that says alot about how AWESOME the other three movies really are.

It's the Dreamworks Animation Sequel curse.
The 1st Movie is great with concept introduction and execution. Characters are engaging and the story has a positive message/meaning behind it.
2nd is outstanding, builds on the source material effectively and matures the subject matter without sacrificing substance or humour.
3rd is kinda mid, the story isn't terrible but there's not much development of characters or overall narrative of the series. Tries to capitalise on the previous entries' popularity by cherry-picking the best bits, but doesn't use them to their potential.
4th (if the previous entry's ending was open and it performed well enough at the box office), fails to live up to the standard of the initial two installments, with the core narrative failing to meaningfully develop the characters and usually being facilitated by the protagonist acting wildly out of character.
Shrek 4 happened because Shrek decided he hates being accepted (which he spent 3 films actively seeking), and KFP 4 is full of active contradictions and logical stretches (Po actively coveting the Dragon Warrior title and openly disregarding Shifu despite 3 films affirming his identity as such and seeking Shifu's wisdom, not to mention the whole "giving the staff" nonsense. WHY would a staff that powerful only require it to be physically handed to someone to work, regardless of intent behind it?).
