And once he gets them all the reward isn’t even that great. At least go the metal gear solid route and provide a stealth device that makes you invisible.

The money in the belt reminds me of how main timeline batman actually carries candies in his utility belt to help calm down children who've witnessed crimes or who are victims of it.
Batman also gives autographs to kids.
Iirc that's a very minor part of Batman Year One, when he's first preparing to go out as Batman and he's like "yup, I thought of everything"
Street-level Batman stories are always my favorite DC material. The gritty, realistic touch always gives us such phenomenal stories.

Depresses me every time I go to Wikipedia to see if there’s any updates. Not giving up hope but damn I wish they’d just do it. Some amazing stories could be told if they just keep them going

it's a really cool metatextual reference if you know the biology behind it! Crocodiles will commonly lounge with their mouths open outside of spooky dracula castles and allow the bats to land in their mouths and clean their teeth with little brushes. 90% of the time this ends with the bat getting eaten and the crocodile contracting rabies, and I think that was referenced in the moment where Killer Croc accidentally swallows Damien and Alfred has to pump his stomach; bats do often carry rabies! as a biology nerd i love this arc :)

Also, reptiles cannot acquire rabies, rabies is a disease that only affects placental mammals.

Extended for clarity:
This whole idea of "plot armor" was born from people's unreasonable expectations of what comics are spposed to be. So what if Batman does "impossible" feats that his character shouldn't be able to do? That's what makes him Batman. Take that away and he's just another Sherlock Holmes archetype like The Question.
I don't wanna see him get destroyed by gods simply because "hey he's human and they're gods so they're more powerful than him". I wanna see some imaginative, ingenious, clever idea that a writer can come up with to beat those odds. Something totally out of left field that you never saw coming. But most of you guys hate that because you are tooooo fixated on "power levels".
This is the Batman y'all wish was in vs matches basically nerfed and fodder which isn't the case makes for fresh story though

85 years of Batman stories and the gritty down to earth dramas along with exceptional artwork never gets old.
Harvey Bullock descending from a beautiful celebrity into who his is in BTAS is the kind of tragedy that makes the Batman franchise work when it's at its best. The Clock King, Killer Croc, Baby Doll, Two Face, Clay Face, Mr. Freeze, etc all had tragic backstories that nudged them into becoming villains and supervillains. Bullock just didn't have the fantastic circumstances or genius that transformed the rest into villains. Throughout the time we see him, he is dying a hero, just very, very slowly and in a self-inflicted, para-suicidal way. It's really good writing.
Sweaty money is invaluable: you break something you pay for it. The shadowrun game teaches you this - make a mistake, you pay.

Thanks for covering these Rob. Great stuff. Johns' has done so many great things that this line of stories often gets forgotten about. DC didn't do the best job promoting this line and keeping it going. It really is one the greatest Batman stories ever. Art is phenomenal as well. I love the twists and turns, and the bigger commitment to grounding this in the real world as much as possible. My favorite thing is having Killer Croc become part of the Bat-Family. That blew me away when it happened. Bruce goes out as the street level vigilante/detective, Alfred mans the Bat-Cave providing assistance from afar, and Croc is the one scouring the sewers and providing heavy muscle when needed. I love it! Take care and peace everyone.

The first one is the elevator rider is a dwarf. He's tall enough to press G, on the lowest row of buttons, but can't reach his floor's button.
The second one is white paint. All paints "smell and pour" the same, so it looks like what ever color the van is, which is white

16:45 I really like that part : Riddler talking about questions that he doesn't want answers to and you talking about 'the reality here, in the city of Gotham'. The middle panel shows that Magritte's exposition is in Gotham. Magritte is a surrealist. He paints about another perception of reality and creates illusions. Many people have tried to probe his psyche and, yet, he basically said he just paints things that way because he feels they're nice that way. So, in a way, Riddler asks questions to random strangers and people in general ask questions about the deep meaning they think they should find in Magritte's works. But Riddler doesn't want answers and Magritte says there's no deep answer to seek. And you talk about 'the reality here', despite the fact that Magritte is a master of surrealism and his most famous work of art has to be the famous 'Ceci n'est pas une pipe' ('This is not a pipe'), from the 'La trahison des images' series ('The treason of images') : he's basically drawing a pipe and saying it's not the actual 'reality'. Oh, and the bowler hat ? That's Magritte and Riddler.
Personally, I like "The Listening Room." It's just funny to me.

I might be in the minority but I really like the idea of Croc being a chaotic neutral in the sewer. Some get his respect and some won’t. But I always love the interactions between bats and croc. The teasing of “I’ll eat you eventually” mixed with croc being an extra set of eyes for Bruce is well done. And their relationship makes more sense now that croc is essentially a “team member” of Batman
