I had monster hornet nest under a platform in my yard for a gazebo. I was actually sanding it to stain when I discovered it and it was not fun. they got me 8 times and all on my one leg. I had to lift it with floor jack and get on my back to reach under and spray it. My wife got me a bee suit off Amazon for 40 bucks which actually worked pretty good the day of, no stings. The suit made me a lot more confident going into it since I was laying on the ground when engaging the hornets. Worth the buy. The spray I used was black flag, and I sprayed it right in the entrance and layed on the nozzle for 5 seconds first time. Next day I went out saw a little activity and gave it another spray. Second time around did them in and it was safe to remove

Hornet spray just before dark will work, I would not advise that to a lawn care business, unless it was a service you offered.

Currently yes. Stihl cordless. Gas just doesn't last with the angles I use it at. But just use it an a few old boulevards.

I've been in business for 3 years now, and it seems like in my area word of mouth just does not work. I'm near DC and people are just not as friendly or talkative to neighbors up here. I have gotten literally one client from word of mouth - I do good work at fair prices, but I've gotten all of my customers from my google page and Nextdoor. Kinda sucks but I have 1,000 flyers I need to distribute. Probably will get some shirts for myself too, might help a bit. At the end of the day every market is just so different, I'm still trying to navigate mine. And not to be mean but so many of the people in this area are immigrants, especially Indian and middle eastern, and they are just unfriendly, cheap and rude. They will never say a good thing about you or your work to other people or to you, ask me how I know lol.

I carry a 36 SWZT daily, but don't carry a push mower daily. I do load it for 2 jobs that I have, though.

I don't advertise. Like others have said, word of mouth, appearance, being present in neighborhoods,etc. I feel like advertising would lead to more business, but definitely more "can you cut my grass for $20" calls.

No I stopped using a push mower 15 years ago I use my weedeater I can cut just as good with my weedeater than a push mower and faster.

I am in eastern Virginia. I run my 52” Vantage 90% of the time but also have a Lazer Z X-Series 60” for the big yards. My HRX217 is barely used. I had a 36”Turf Tracer for a while but it was too slow. We have a some steep hills but the Vantage doesn’t hesitate.

When I started 31 years ago I took a 6 week long ad in my local news paper and I had 100 cards I put in the country stores that was all I ever did. I turn many lawns down now I have been solo all these years plus I work a full time job. I only have 21 yards this year I am down sizing

This is my motto. The customers that I have gained in the last few seasons is from referrals from present customers. And I have all the yards I can do being part time and solo

I did when i started. But now im full and the work plus the logo on my enclosed trailer has me turning fown work. Until it's dry out. Then ill wish i had more work.

I don’t do mowing agreements. I do service agreements. Incase it’s too dry or wet I can pick up sticks or blow sidewalks off or something so I’m not crippled by droughts or rain

2 calls is pretty good. I use it for lighting and Christmas lights. Pretty good return on 1000 flyers

I've found good work and making a good appearance when you're on the job goes a long way. Word of mouth really grows your business.

As someone who owns a lawn care biz, I simply don't take accounts like this. I've discovered in 30 years of it to have a ton of $30-$50 lawns, no hills, no requirement for any mowers smaller than a 48.

Unfortunately theres no law saying they can't be in the left lane in Tennessee. These people will set their cruise control on 70. Holds everyone up. They feel they are entitled. Even worse when truckers drive at 60 mph in the fast lane trying to pass another truck.

It also doesn't help these people are not paying attention to the road. I'm on the road for 10 hours a day 6 days a week and half the time I just see these people either swiping Tik Tok watching CZcams or anything else on their phone. As far as the standing in the left lane going 50 and then when you pass and they speed up, it's just because they're not paying attention and their cruise control isn't set so they forget that they're not going the speed limit they should be and then as soon as I see you pass it's like oh s*** I got to put the foot on the gas. It's annoying

The right lane is way more rough from semi trucks, especially on I-10.

As far as I know the rule is you can drive in the left lane but if someone comes up faster than you you are supposed to get over. In other words the left lane isn't strictly a passing lane

They changed the law, now u have to drive in the left lane

I just keep my business solo. I've found it's just as lucrative and you don't have to depend on anyone else. Happy birthday dude.

Happy Birthday, dude! I'm guessing you're 38? I got lucky with my part time guy. He's a friend of my sons, and was doing finish carpentry, but says he likes lawn care more! Super good attitude and a hard worker.

It does get hard but I am taking a 2 week vacation right now. Just sent an email to my customers. It was supposed to be 6 days but with it so dry I decided to extend it and skip a week of mowing.
