Hits home! Great advice
I spent a lot of time in the off season thinking about this one. Thanks for watching
Some very smart comments about your route, your body. Well done!
Cheers, Bill
Thank You, I appreciate that👊
You’re applying one of the best lessons in life to your business, learning to say “no”.
It took me a long time to be able to say that. But now I can yell it all day..lol
This one really hit home. Ill be 44 this year and 25 years in the business. I have those same yards and I choose the "deal with it" route as well. You made the right call bud. I need to learn to do the same!
Its so hard sometimes tontake the personal element out if it and remember its our bodies and our business and we have to do whats best for us.
Glad to hear someone say something other than the typical maintenance answer lol.
I knew that is what everyone was expecting. After a week of rain i had a little more to talk about😂
Great video
Thanks as always
I have a pressure wash customer there in Colonial Heights!! Just saw her home.
Then it was probably close to where i live
Flyers work pretty good for me. I use ‘‘em all the time for lighting
Yap, bout all they are good for. Out of 1000 i got a spring cleanup and 2 regulars
@@pandhlawncare that’s pretty good return.
I greatly appreciate you making this video.. Hard to explain, but just understand the long video is valuable in this instance because of the breakdown given.
I have the opportunity to take undesirable lawns more established businesses don't want and I should be thankful they're coming.
Now im going to have to go back and watch it. Lol. But im glad you found it helpful. Thanks so much for watching and Happy New Year

We call that CHERRY PICKIN lawns...we do it every year.. I prefer small lawns, but living in rural WV makes that tough
So if we can pick up a small lawn that is easier an can price close enough to larger lawns, we do it..
Route density is key.. good video..
Thats what Im doing, Cherry Pickin. I wish that term had came to mind while i was doing that video. And I love WV, we try and camp up there at least once a year.
Door hangers have been very good to me over the last few yeara
I dont get much off of them, i just really want customers as close as possible so i thought i would give it a try
Good to see ya again Nick. I hear ya bout wanting easier lawns for sure. Some people swear by then and no I'm a believer too, but you should look into a stander. Much more comfortable and productive than a sit down
i may demo a vride, i hear you either hate them or love them. I just love my Turf Tiger though. If i do il do a video on it
Great video Nick. I let go of 10 lawns at the beginning of this season. I'm happier than I've ever been. If you do hire employees, Don't ever forget this quote from Johnny Mow " If you don't want to mow the lawn, your employees probably don't either".
That is a great point. Dont pick up garbage yardd just because you have someone else doing it.
Good video
Normally I do not comment.
Im 61 solo lawn service business, retired over 10 years ago. We have youngest daughter/2 grandboys that have lived with us 5 years. We call it a Gramily!
All the comments you have made are so true for all in this business.
Any time Ive questioned how to approach pricing, lawn qualities, customer qualities etc...
I use the old school term, honesty is the best policy. Be true to yourself/family, then to your business as a whole. Kinda corny?
I also have used the term "Im as busy as I want to be". Not to sound coky or disrespecful. But to be true to myself/business.
When we need to raise prices or drop yards or clients, be staight up!
The larger percentage of folks will understand and if not. After time in most of my cases, they will call you back. Why because you care, do a quality job, on time run a good business.
Stay safe and hydrated
Wear your dam saftey glasses!!!
Not corny at all. And i agree with everything you said. And i always wear my safety glasses. I give people 💩 that dont. The ones im wearing in the video can take a 12 guage shotgun blast
Man o' man, did I need to hear this. I have three yards right now that I need to let go. Same reasons, i.e., $h!t yards with more sticks, excessive dog crap, miscellaneous yard ornaments scattered all over like a rummage sale, etc. I would love to let them go tomorrow, but I they are along my route making them hard to pass up, at least for this year. Its always the same ones too that I text a day or two ahead of time to let them know I will be there and they still don't pick up stuff. Frustrating! Any suggestions on that topic? I am there to mow not pick up the yard, especially for $45. I actually bid one high hoping they would pass but.....Anyway, I understand your frustration and I too have a couple yards that I should increase my rates on, but they are great folks who have assisted me thoroughout the last years with getting new clients, therefore, I just leave them as is. They don't make me chase my money and are great to deal with and you can't beat that. Turf Tiger is laying them stripes down. Keep up the great work. From Mid-Missouri...Fezz
My 2 cents is drop that yard, over the past couple years ive came tonthe realization that if i am dreding mowing a yard the night before its not worth it. Especially if youre not getting what its worth. If youre doing the right things you will pick up another yard to replace it. It may be a little more out of the way but its worth not having to deal with the 💩. BTW, you can charge for excessive feces. Ive done it. And thise older customers that arent at what they should be, if they are sending you more business then they are making up for it. Thats why i havent dropped mine
I’m 37 and I have no interest in 60 yards that’s crazy I can’t believe you do that many yards at your age
The weather worked with me and i did 65 this past week. Im going to do another route density video soon. I dont have small cookie cutter yards but they are all close together which makes it possible. Not going to lie, i stay sore a lot. Thanks for the “at your age”😂 youre only as old as you feel. Thanks for watching my vids Man, i really appreciate it
I watch all your videos I enjoy your videos. Agree with what you say about customers an bad yards
@@jaynelson573 its hard to not notice the Hulk. Thanks Man, i should have some up on echomeansbusiness soon, but i dont control when those go out.
What's crazy is how these 30 somethings and younger have no work ethic. Somebody has to pull the weight. Let that sink in a bit.
My area is so poor I can't go up on anyone this year after going up last year. But, side work with my dump trailer has made a huge difference
A lot of my customers asked me at the beginning of the season how much its going up this year🤷🏻♂️. And i want a dump trailer so bad. My two purchases for taxes this year are, hopefully, a clam shell bagger for the scag and a dump trailer. Most likely from oquins
@@pandhlawncare O'Quinn has great prices on their trailers. I got a big tex from iw trailers and love it
@@BioHazardra ive bought 2 from them. Including the one i have now. Good people to do business with
As a side note:
I have been thinking about switching to battery. Not to be PC/green necessarily but to be practiacal, less maintenance. Trimmers, blower, edger. Not mowers: I use 1-self propelled 2-zero turns
Does this make sense?
Do batteries work for you all?
Thank you
As mentioned, im a member of echomeansbusiness, and i have been trying the battery stuff out for the same reasons. Im definately not a PC/green guy. I personally cant stand it and im not hearing any disagreements, behind closed doors.
I'm 50 & understand what you mean. As far as the back issues, the medical doctor told me I'd need surgery. I decided to research it thoroughly & came upon what's called a "Gonstead Chiropractor".
I then researched my area & found one that is 30 minutes away. I had to sign on for a 15 month program where I go 3 times per week for the first 40 adjustments , then I go 2 x .
In May I get bumped down to 2x per week. Their practice is evidence based. They xray your back to begin with , then do follow up x-rays that show the corrections & progress. Let me just tell you that I'm showing remarkable improvement! Just thought I'd take time to share this with you.
That all being said, I have junk yards too that I'd like to drop. They have dog feces all the time etc. Hills, weed whacking etc. I'm trying to come up with an articulate honest way to drop them
A good friend of mine is a chiro, i will ask him about that. Thank You. And a good way to drop them, im having to scale back. Its just so hard to find help. Its the honest truth. And they understand that. I have a no dog 💩policy in place anyways. Ive had too many facials🤦🏻♂️
@@pandhlawncare what does your no dog feces look like? How is it worded? Is it something like if there's dog feces you don't know or they get dropped? I kind of don't want to get involved with the dog feces at all myself because if I have to skip their lawn because there's dog feces everywhere the next week it's going to be super high
@@ericmckelvey1264 i tell new customers if they have dogs up front. I will not mow dog poop. They know when im coming and they can have it cleaned up, you get 2 strikes. I wont be back on the third
Go VOLS 🍊🍊 I’ve got several of those yards that are severely underpriced due to inflation and the fact I’ve had them for so long. But I just don’t have the heart to increase prices where they should be!
Need to find a way to fix that. It shouldnt cost us money to provide other people with a service. I actually had a customer tell me yesterday that he watched my video and apologized saying i needed a raise. And his yard is about where it should be
Your killing it bro!!! 💪🏼
Thanks Man👊
Unfortunately due to some health issues I was forced to make some serious changes
Im sorry to hear that. I hope your doing ok, and prayers to you.
Luckily I was overpriced for years (since 2017) which made this transition into high inflation bearable at best. I put em all on some sort of drip where the price goes up every year.
Yea, i love your $1 drip, thats great. It doesnt seem like much so they dont mind it
@@pandhlawncare $1 drip if its under $50, $2 drip if its over $50, $3 drip if its over $100, and $4 drip if its over $200. I've never had one complaint over the increases
