My late great uncle was a master sergeant in the 2nd squad (24th). Among his bring backs was the flag that flew over the post office in Cologne, which I still have to this day. I was the only one in the family he would speak to about his experience, and only then the bare minimum and only because as a child, I asked him all the time. But he would give me things to feed my quest for knowledge about WW2 and his service. Thank you for posting this. 👍

Based on the date, this footage was taken shortly before the 8th was sent to the incomprehensibly hellish (and ultimately failed ) battle of the Hurtgen Forest in November, followed by a short respite in Luxembourg before being called back into action to help defeat the Nazis at the Battle of the Bulge.

Yo conocí a Otto Scorzeny.

My great grandfather fought in ww2, he went through Omaha beach, fought in battle of the bulge, and wrote letters everyday, he was also in the 2nd infantry division and every time he killed or saw a dead German soldier, he would take their medals, patches, flags, helmets, mini flags, pictures, uniforms, hats, and stuff. After ww2 he married my great grandmother and had this big chest filled with the stuff he took from the dead germans, but when my mother and her sisters and my grandpa and my great grandfather went to six flags, my great grandfathers house got robbed, they took everything especially the boots and also the big chest, they took everything and trashed the house. The only thing that remained was his jacket, his letters, and his pictures because the jacket was with my aunt who lived elsewhere, the letters because they were hidden, and the pictures because they were with the letters. He never talked about the war to my grandpa or anyone even when they took him to therapy he would not talk, the reason that my grandpa knows is because he found his letters, pictures, jacket, boots, pants, medals, and his stuff. I think the reason why my great grandfather didn’t speak was because he was shell shocked.
