44th Infantry Division with Götz von Berlichingen Prisoners in Wittring, France; January 6, 1945

  • January 6, 1945: US soldiers - likely men of an IPW Team - at the headquarters of the 114th Infantry Regiment, 44th Infantry Division in Wittring, France with German prisoners. The German PWs are like from the "Götz von Berlichingen" Division from the formation mentioned on the slate at the beginning of the footage. You can see that these prisoners have already been through initial processing from the presence of their prisoner of war tags.

    Those guys look more like they were Totenkopf,concentration camp guards?

      I see the collar tabs, but I know these men were in Götz von Berlichingen at this time. It is possible they were replacements, camp guards sent to combat, etc., but the unit designation is definitely 17th.
