Units of the 30th Infantry Division and 112th Cavalry Regiment move on Maastricht, Holland. The soldiers in the boats at the beginning of the clip are from the 117th Infantry Regiment. These images were likely taken between September 11-13, 1944.

This is truly moving. Just found out my Great Grandfather was in the 117th. I’m so thankful for his service and bravery.

The GI getting on the boat at 1:03 has his haversack torn off and just using his suspenders. I’ve heard of soldiers doing this, but I don’t think recall seeing it in action.

I have seen it in multiple units in multiple locations. There is also a US soldier wearing German Y-straps (Koppeltragegestell).
