    This is truly moving. Just found out my Great Grandfather was in the 117th. I’m so thankful for his service and bravery.

    The GI getting on the boat at 1:03 has his haversack torn off and just using his suspenders. I’ve heard of soldiers doing this, but I don’t think recall seeing it in action.

      I have seen it in multiple units in multiple locations. There is also a US soldier wearing German Y-straps (Koppeltragegestell).
