I was born in England but I was raised in the U.S. My mother's side of my family is American and my father's side of my family is British. I actually understand why people would have negative feelings about America. Our government tends to bully other countries. There are many Americans that have never left their country and then claim that America is the best country in the world. A pathological obsession with consumerism, money and financial success is forced upon many Americans from a very young age. A large number of Americans not only tend to vote against the interests of others but also against their own interests. What people in other countries who dislike Americans don't realize, is that a huge number of Americans are also critical of many of the aspects of America that other countries complain about. The people which much of the media depicts as representing American culture and attitudes are usually not representative of all Americans. The most pompous and obnoxious Americans tend to be the ones who get the most representation in the media and in the American government. I don't agree with the belief that all Americans are stupid. I was reminded of the stereotype that Americans are all stupid and unsophisticated, when the British woman in the video chastised Americans for using the word "Fall" instead of "Autumn." Neither the word "Fall" or "Autumn is any more relevant or eloquent than the other. Americans use the terms "Fall" and "Autumn" interchangeably. No one in the U.S. would look at you strangely if you used the word "Autumn." It's also quite pompous of that woman to claim that "Autumn" is the only correct word to use for that particular season. When 20% of the world's population speaks English, the English no longer have to right to consider themselves the arbiters of the English language. I don't think that Americans are stupid but I do think a lot of Americans are willfully ignorant about the rest of the world. I prefer foreign news platforms over American news platforms because American news usually only covers American politics and nothing else. Most news organizations in other countries report world news because they usually don't believe that their country is the center of the world. I have to admit, I was surprised when that one British man said that he thought Americans look down on the English, it's actually quite the opposite. In my experience, many Americans love the English, they love their accents, they love their culture and they tend to think that most Brits are smart, sophisticated and classy. If there are any Europeans that some Americans really do look harshly upon, it's the French. There is a common stereotype in America that French people are rude and snobbish, which I'm sure many French people would disagree with. The truth is, not all Americans are what the media claims they are, just as not all the English are classy intellectuals and not all the French are snobbish. Assuming that all people in any given group share a single, overarching personality trait is really just chauvinism and a symptom of lazy thinking. I might be understanding as to why many other countries have negative stereotypes about Americans but that doesn't mean that I agree with those stereotypes.

One tip I recommend for those who find 15 or 20 minutes too much. Set a timer for one hour and work on it throughout the day. Each time before meditation unpause the timer. Meditate only until it feels comfortable. Then pause the timer again. Keep doing this at different times throughout the day until you have meditated one hour. Eventually you'll be able to sit for longer periods, even one hour in one sit, but this is a helpful aid in the beginning

It seems ridiculous to even try to stereotype Americans. The various regions are so different. You can say that people from New York City are loud and overconfident etc, but if you're in Appalachia, or the Deep South, or the Great Plains, or the Great Lakes, or the Mountain West, those people are generally very humble and private. Texans can be kind of loud and boisterous, but also have a Southern influence as well. It's funny how snooty Brits can be, like they think they are so cool and better than us. If you go to some small town in Wales or Scotland and then go to some small town in maybe Ohio, they are probably the same people heritage-wise, but the Americans are just a little more friendly and laid back.

There is a lot of things going on in America. But coming from a third world country, I would just put it as a first world problem. It's a cycle that we are inclined to go through. The country is decades ahead of ours, it's human nature to create problem when there is actually none. We have heard a lot of racial problems and all kind of sort but America is just the most accepting country. If it wasnt, noone from my own country would have moved to the states.

Agree wholeheartedly, especially grateful that you called out Instagram and how unnatural and unsettling it is. One thing I might add: to me, it seems that men more easily invest time on themselves. Women would do well to learn this from men. We’re socialized to seek partnership asap. But I’d also venture to say it’s unfortunate that women have the biological clock to consider, which sets a deadline for the time we can invest in learning about ourselves and expanding our skills in our 20s. It can be challenging when men aren’t on that timeline and only begin to feel like they know themselves enough to seek partnership after 40.

I don’t think the uncultured stigma in terms of Americans is about a lack of creativity or output- uncultured as a term usually means bad mannered- and tastelessness- i think it’s more about behaviour. People associate Americans with being loud, lacking understanding of others, thinking they have right to everything, viewing everything through the lens of money and success. Those things are where the “uncultured “ badge comes from. It’s not really about culture per se in terms of like music or art or whatwver I think you could says its a misleading word because it sounds like it’s about culture but its more about decorum

Too many of the untraveled, and with no personal interactions, have a Hollywood movie view of Americans. Which is grossly inaccurate. Sad, but true. Of course the same goes for untraveled Americans and their pre-conceived notions, too. The wonderful advantage of the Brits is their mother tongue and accent. Even a Brit middle school graduate has a vocabulary that is beyond most American high school graduates, if not a majority of college graduates. They immediately sound more "intelligent."

As a parisian, I find this video interesting, even if I disagree on several aspects. Regarding deliveries, most of the time it's expected for people to come to the front door to get their package, I consider disrespectful asking the delivery guy with a small pay to climb the 5 floors of a non-elevator building. Morover, it's technically illegal in your "building rulebook" (reglement de copropriété) to give your code to outside people to avoid intrusions. About parisians, I never understood this idea in which we are close-minded about new friends outside of our circles, every real parisians I know have more than 75% of their friends who are not parisians, but 90% of people in Paris are not born in Paris anyway. Parisians are just rare in general. Regarding bikes, well it's not the best but it still is better than 99% of big cities in the world, except Netherlands, Denmark and some Germany. All the rest of the world is like "no-bike land" so I don't really see the issue on this one, Paris is extra dense so biking is really fast (you can bike from one extremity to the other in 30 min max). Same about service, never understood this backlash. There are so few non-touristic places where servers aren't nice that I think it's really a tourist/newcomer thing. Also, you can't expect "service" in brasseries since it's mostly place to drink with so many young people, servers being so young people with no money who get yailed at by drunk people and foreigners 24/7, yes they can be rude, but if you know your places, you know where service is good and you just don't go where service is bad, end of story. Also, it's normal if peiple don't give you the check, just stand and go pay at the bar, it's obly a problem in crowded places, never in small restaurants where servers have the time to serve you well.

We are a melting pot, not a dumping ground for other nation's welfare states and reject, spare, feckless princes dumb enough to marry a narcissist yacht girl.

Why do people pay any credence to these inflammatory “pit peoples against each other” videos? I’m 60, British and have never met any of my countrymen/women “who look down” on anyone from the US. Yes, we are sometimes divided by a common language (spellings etc) but in my experience having worked for US companies for over 30 years in the UK there is huge respect between our peoples. Yes there are idiots in the UK who are xenophobic but no more than anywhere else. Videos like this just feed off of the tribalism of those that want to focus on the small things that divide nations rather than the vast majority of things that unite us.
