the oliy stuff is called "pickled" and Ive noticed it usually has less mill scale on it.. if your buying small pieces (like 2 x2 or 1x2) lots of places that sell will wipe it down, especially if they are shipping it to you. . "Muratic" acid, (2-7% HLC) works in second s(to destroy mill scale) though you have to wash it off f and dry your work piece thoroughly or it willl rust quickly
just make roller shutters on the outside of the window 😂
The old school strippers were insane. The new stuff sucks but is safer for people not wearing gear.
Fantastic comparison video! It must have been a huge time sink for you but you created the definitive paint stripper review that's helping people years after you made it. Thanks so much!
Hello! Not sure this film is a double pane safe to install.
I have 205/50/15 with 25 offset Advanti Storms on my turbo Miata. I don't seem to have rubbing issues (I don't think). I want to put 225 or 245s on for autocross but I am pretty reluctant on rolling the fenders as I think I wanna try to keep it looking stock/sleeperish.
Wow, This is incredible. One day this will be considered a classic Miata vid.
Cool. But the tests were done on rock bottom THIN paint and primer (car paint). As soon as you try to strip anything thicker than car paint you are in a world of shit. Some areas hold like a mother, others fall off right after applying stripper. Removing the areas that hold kills you. That is how paint or coating thickness works - it does make the surface way, way, way more durable. And beautifully fucked up to strip.
Follow up video? how is it holding up?
excellent, thanks!
Old School Aircraft Stripper.scuff w 80 grit and coat thick and cover w plastic for 40 minutes
Even with those plantation blinds, the house gets heated? Also, now after one year what's your experience, is the film working as it should?
Loving this series! The 280 was my favorite car as a teen. I finally got to buy one years later, an 83 280ZX that was super fun and had no frame rails pretty much. It came with what can jokingly be described as Nissan's factory installed rust. A fun screamer of a car for $600 bucks though. It got hit in an intersection and was replaced with a Nissan Pulsar NX which was also a very fun, albeit slow, car. Did finally get another Z later for a brief period, a 76 280, but ended up selling it because I had nowhere good to store it and was afraid it would end up rusting. You are basically doing here what I always wanted to do with the 280ZX. Just redo the whole thing. Cool to watch someone actually doing this!
Izzat a 240Z?
Thank you! trying to get mine running after sitting for many many years. no spark!
Erik Satre, mechanic hobbyist, and deformed fingers. We have a lot in common!
Is 5-w40 ok that’s what I saw😭
I have older windows and had to cut about 50 squares 😂
You try to keep your house cooled to 70deg when it’s 90deg outside? What? Yea, that’s excessively cold; no wonder your ac can’t keep up. You might want to move to Canada if you want it to be that cold. Good video. Thanks for the info!
Why is it when I ask google specifically,, how to change clutch plates in an 1996 automatic , AWD,AWS, GTO gives me this ,,,no disrespect to you guys good job
What model GoPro are you using and how much does it cost you
Nice vid. Somebody put the alternator belt on upside before you.
Any update on datsun ?
If you included an example of stripper that had methylene chloride, around 90% of the paint would have come off within 2 minutes and left bare metal.
Great video...well done!
Do you clean the metal before using the grinder to remove mill scale
I was not on the fence. I had a 1973 Blue Datsun 240z 4 speed.I enjoyed the car in my college and dating days!
Absolutely what I was looking for. I’m a complete beginner when it comes to car repairs etc. I’m a car person but not a mechanic. This video was completely what I was looking for since I had no idea where the lift points were for the miata. However I don’t think the jack stands should be on the frame at the very ends, not on the ribbed part of the body.
There’s not even anything wrong with my Miata, I just love rewatching this video because of how relaxing and in depth it is.
Hi, Is the reflection making some discomfort to your neighbor in front of you? Mine is closer to my hose rather your but I wouldn’t cause any discomfort over my own comfort. What can you share about?
How about 225/50 r15 tyres?
Well, try something else. 3M fibra base plate 64861 combine with fibra stone grinding disk. You will be surprise.
You can thank Joe Biden for banning the good paint stripper and leaving us with this crap.
Great vid. I've got 2 big trapezoid windows in my great room. When the sun is out it's like being in Krammer's apartment with the chicken roasters sign.
Thanks for the helpful video! 1st oil change successful but whoever designed the oil filter to go where it did in the Miata is a jerk with tiny hands
Never, ever , ever, ever take a razor blade to your granite counter top or any knife for that matter
Fantastic video !! I’m on the way to purchase it. Thank you 🙏
Oh, yeah millscale is a problem. Wire brush does not take it off, and those flap discs barely take it off. To clean all the millscale off of a project as big as the one in the video. You could easily burn up 10 flap discs at about 8$ a disc, maybe even more. I am going to try using a DA sander, but if that doesn't work then I will do the vinegar thing. Sandpaper for a DA is a lot cheaper than flap discs for a grinder. thanks for sharing, how you do it.
Damm u know every single part . And I need to do this ewww😮
Thank you! That was helpful. I tried installing it and it is 1000% better to pre cut. I definitely wasted some film before stumbling on your video
NICE DEMO !
Awesome content, thank you!
You should have had the thermometer gun right next to the tape, at that distance your gun might have a 1 foot reading circle.
I realize this video is older, but I've been working in metal fab for about that long and I think you might find the velcro head and scotch brite pads more economical. I use both 4" and 8" at my work. Just make sure you have putty knife or paint scraper handy for changing them to get between the hook and loop surfaces. Also, for structural surfaces, 16 grit pro will definitely eat all the mill scale but not for very long. We're looking into the new diamond dusted wire wheels at the moment because the Lazer removal demo we had was disappointing. Great for rust but not so great for mill scale.
I purchased a coil with the built in resistor for my 1970 240Z. You said that you don't recomment bypassing the external resistor. Would you recommend getting a coil that does require the external resistor rather than getting a coil with a built in resistor? Thanks and great video!!
The prices 😅 😢
Pretty much loved everything about this except no safety glasses and other safety stuff. Although I must admit i tend to be bad and not do things the safe way. Might be one of my first beginner projects.
2:18 minor asianism slipped through
Thank you for the clear and well thought out explanations is your Datsun L-series videos. Its been of great help to me. Currently trying to finish tuning my recently re-built 77' 280Z L28. I'm in California and trying to pass smog.
Very nicely explained. I really like that you showed all the pitfalls you encountered. I'm the kind of person that can find more problems than most people knew were possible, so this really helps. Thank you.
