    Although it was mentioned, for me I think the Z community would have made the number 5 slot officially. I've had a love for these cars since I was 16 years old. My first car was a 1977 280Z. But as you grow up and the responsibilities of life begin to kick in (wife, kids, house, real jobs etc...) we're force to become more practical.
    Fast forward to the time I bought my 1978 280Z, at the age of 54, I'm not sure I would have actually gone through with the purchase if it wasn't for channels like this and the awesome community of Z lovers.
    Anyone coming across this channel for the first time needs to scan through Min's older videos. Aside from being one of the people who inspired me to make that purchase at 54, he has some of the coolest, most interesting content on CZcams. The videos where Min built a valve cover out of plexiglass so you can see how the oil is distributed over the head is one of my favorites. Also don't miss the one that goes into great detail all the connections and holes on the intake manifold - a must see.

      Thanks Mike! Yeah the good ol' days when Min actually knew what he was doing :)
      My first car that I purchased myself was a used infinity G37 that I blew my signing bonus on right after college. Wasnt the smartest financial decision, but it was the car that I so badly wanted in highschool. I didnt know much about Nissan's history at the time but it did get me interested in learning more about the heritage.
      I fantasize about bringing the car back to the first owner after I'm done restoring it. I think theyd get a kick out of it.

      @@RestorationForBeginners Hahaha! Funny - when you knew what you were doing!!!!! I think you'd agree this is not about knowing what you're doing. it's about getting absorbed in something you love and trying different things or going outside your comfort zone. I subscribed to this channel when I think you had 100 - 200 subscribers. Just looked and now you have over 5k. That's a big deal. This channel has done something not many others have, and that's to present really interesting, engaging content. The videos I recommended above are a good example. The videos pull the viewer into the situation. I find myself watching saying - "crap I hope that rig he has elevating the car doesn't fall on his head" or "Geez, I hope he can replace all that metal he just cut out of there". No criticism at all - just an example of how these videos get the viewer invested in the project.
      Funny about wanting to show the completed car to the previous owner. The guy I bought my car from was awesome. The car came from Tennessee (I live in Massachusetts), but he's since move to New Mexico and we've lost contact. I told him my plans for the car and really wanted to be kept up to date with progress. The car was his Dad's who has passed away and I think it being restored was meaningful to him - eventually I'll find him.
      Keep up the great work.

      I have a buddy in the area that is restoring a 240Z that belonged to his late father as well. I like listening to him talk about it. While I can't pretend I have that level of a bond with my car (at least yet), I understand the connection and nostalgia some people have to their Z's, even if they weren't able to hang on to them.

I picked up my 76' 280z for really cheap in excellent condition (I don't think the guy knew exactly what he had). The S30z's are beautiful cars that just about everyone from classic muscle to JDM can appreciate. I think you're right that we will see S30 prices start to rise and soon.

    1. As someone who lives in LA, even driving through areas like Beverly Hills etc I get thumbs up and looks all day long in my 280Z and sometimes makes me feel like i'm actually driving an exotic car the way people try taking pictures of it on the freeway.
    2. Bought my Z two years ago for $3500, to find one in similar condition today that I got mine for, bump that price up to $7000 at least. I put a total of $11000 into my car and I am positive it is at least worth $20000 now. They are 100% going up in value and becoming harder to find at least in my area.
    3. Agreed, did all the work on the car myself besides the body and paint work. The L series is also near bulletproof so you shouldn't have to work on the car often anyways.
    4. Almost never had a problem getting parts for the car. There are a few things I have not been able to find but most of the important things you can buy off multiple sites.
    5. I agree 100%. While its not the fastest car ever, it still picks up and likes to move. It's also not hard to get more power. The car however just handles so damn good even without any suspension upgrades. A few suspension mods later and you will be keeping up with supercars in the canyons and destroying them in autocross. The car is just so raw and everything about the driving experience is just pure fun and will put a huge smile on your face (besides not having AC in California lol). And there is honestly no other car out there that sounds like an L series, the sound alone will make you smile.

    • @RestorationForBeginners
      @RestorationForBeginners  Před 4 lety +2

      Yeah man, I miss that "head turner" experience for sure. It gets a lot of attention, I think because so many people recognize it from way back when. On numerous occasions Ive had people come up to me and tell me that they had one 40 years ago or how they remember them in high school parking lots in the 80s. It's not the same type of attention as driving a flashy exotic, it's really more of a warm nostalgia. And I love that.

    • @AnthonyCessor
      @AnthonyCessor Před 4 lety

      @@RestorationForBeginners Shocking, while I occasionally do have those people who like to talk about how they owned one or their parents use to own one, I think I get a lot more younger people asking me about the car. Especially after I got mine painted. Occasionally the girls will give it a complement too. Might just be an LA thing though. But it's definitely not bad attention and I do enjoy having the people who like to talk about when they use to have one.

    After I bought my house with a garage, I was on a hunt for a project car. I really really wanted a 510 but they seem quite rare in northern Alberta where I'm from. I ended up scoring an s130 that had been modded about 25 years ago (paint, webers, engine build).. It was not taken care of and now its got a ton of rust and hadn't run in 10 years when I got it 3 years ago. I consider this my "learning car". I don't want to take it to a show, I just want to fix it and drive it. Try some rust repair.. Try some body work.. If I like it the work, maybe I'll try for something older with less rust and really restore it.. But for now, this is a fun car and at the moment, I can't even think of selling it.

    • @RestorationForBeginners
      @RestorationForBeginners  Před 4 lety

      I bought mine when I was almost 17 because it was the coolest car I could afford 30 years ago. My earliest memories with the car were when some of the cool kids were coming up to me for the first time ever just to say something to me about my car. So the coolest kids way back then thought my car was great and it was then I started to think I had something really special. Girls...I think girls were hit and miss whether they liked the Z or not, but the love of my life really liked it and the memories we shared made the car that much more special.
      Also relevant is that I injured the same finger on the same hand when I was 15 at my first job where I was a busboy and dishwasher. I did something WAY dumber than you I promise. We had a big trash can that food waste was put in and it was made out of soft plastic. While washing dishes I had stabbed a few holes in it with a chef's knife just fooling around. Well later I did the same thing with another knife but it didn't have the point or sleek design at the tip and when the blade hit the can it stopped, and my fingers slid across the blade for inches and with a lot of pressure. I cut my index finger half way off and also caused a deep wound in my middle finger. I had to get surgery to sew a major nerve back together or I would have lost feeling permanently. So I hope that helps you feel a wee bit better! :) Good luck with your recovery!

      @heymisterderp Oh gosh I wish I didnt read that second part. You were 15, I'm 30, the bar for stupidity gets raised as you age :/
      I was telling another guy that the attention the Z gets seems to be more out of nostalgia than fleeting interest of an exotic. Maybe thats really just my own experience, but I dig that. Cant count the number of times someone told me that they or their family member used to own one and that they remember it fondly.

      @@RestorationForBeginners Yes! I relate to that. I've also heard a lot of stories from the ex-owners I think because they're much more likely to come talk, and every single one of them made me feel good I held onto it. I got a ZX a few years ago. It’s hard to find decent Z’s in Canada especially in Ontario. I got mine in Ottawa which is 7 hours from where I live and went to Uhaul it back on Canada Day weekend in 2017, that is a whole story of its own haha needless to say I got it back in one piece and drove it daily in the spring/summer/fall seasons and I absolutely love it. I follow a bunch of Japanese S130 owners on Instagram and I get really inspired by their vehicles and the Z culture in Japan. Currently I’m in the midst of restoring what I can and will have to do an engine rebuild as my L28 has almost 500k miles on her and with this pandemic going on it’s given me time to start the process but also difficult to continue due to not working. All in all I will be keeping my car for life. That’s my vision with my Z, thanks for taking the time to read and hope you’re safe! Also hope you have a speedy recovery on your finger!

    Just excellent cars. They can make high power but the amount of chassis work needed to be done usually isn’t work it. Personally these car perform best at the 375hp mark. That’s enough to get into a bit of trouble in the straights and to be a beast in the corners
    The engine bay has enough room for you to put a turbo that could make over 1,000hp. With that information I will let you do what you wish.
    However if this is a car you want to do a faithful restoration on you should probably pick up a classic mustang instead .
