You'll need another locking tool as the vape tool doesn't fit Mmw big fin
lol you don’t need every tool to do the job . Paying for every custom made tool by MB or BGM is not what everybody can afford easy to make a tool your self .😍
They should Pay you 🎉
You are making avertaising to jack Jones 😅
Happy birthday
Interesting as always Steve. I always open up the cowling aperture around the head as you mentioned here, it seemed an obvious thing to do! However, I do have a cooling question for you. I'm currently kitting an Italian GP with an RT195 (piston ported). I'd like to keep it's original cylinder head cowl which has the internal deflector / baffle (which seems to channel more air towards the exhaust manifold). So, my question is . . . do I leave the deflector / baffle in place or remove it? Your thoughts would be most welcome 8-).
It’s to push air around exhaust port not sure if it’s robbing from head ? I’d would remove and fit a fin where the gap is bellow exhaust port
"Black sabbeth " you mean ride like youv'e got the wind 😂💨
Ave it.. 🤪
What’s the name of those temp guages and where to get ? Cheers
NORXI you can get on ali express
Nice video Steve !
Enjoyed that Steve but just a thought. Crankcase has oil splashing round and has a vent albeit small to dissipate pressure and therefore heat. Stator on the other side has neither and probably cant get to the stated “140°C so chances are in England shouldn’t be an issue. That said 100% agree with the cylinder head cooling. Think I’m gonna drill a few holes as you said but it’ll be after 1000 mile run to Aviemore and back starting on Thursday 😉
IF YOU ONLY HAD AN OIL COOLER 🤣🤣🤣 mmm stator makes its own heat on top of the casing heat . i think more testing needed
good luck on the ride pal🙏
If your a real mechanical engineer then a Auto mechanic shit makes sense.
You little teaserl
☺
While you do make valid commits . The big head when used with the Avanti barell is good at cooling the engine. As for the "fancy brackets for Cdi mounting mine are on lugs specially to allow air to circulate both sides to aid cooling andadeon alloy to act as a heat sink
Yes when the barrel is the same size as the head , it fills the space correctly and stops air spilling out , it also creates more pressure over the head . But fitting with a small say ts1 it doesn’t work
What a great video to get you thinking, makes total sense, have cut my flywheel covers out previously but the holes in the cowling are gonna be next, keep em coming Steve , great work.
Glad it helped
Those Scootronics stators are junk just cheap components on a fancy backplate be lucky if they last 1000 miles .
tell me more , have you used them ? im on vape my self so no bias .
Strange that mines done over 5 thousand miles and still sound !
always someone with negative vibes , still waiting his reply ?
@@TheSteelweasel Yep the world’s full of em mate ! Have been all of the uk since I fitted it and to Lyon and Issourie and then went to the Euro lambretta this year and it’s not missed a beat, I’m running it on a Proprting 296cc engine as well so it’s been put through its paces too !
Avanti? 🇦🇺
yes Ron moss
@@TheSteelweasel thats why I have one in hot climate, no issues... 🇦🇺
Listen to the Stealweasel = Kool thinking.
Have put some of your tips into the race scoot 😉
Great video Stephen! I Never even thought about that air flow OVER the head!! My LI 150 used to heat seize when I was 16 (53 years ago) - I’m now thinking it was either bad cooling or the little hole was blocked in the petrol cap!! Fuel starvation? Alas, I will never know.
Thanks for the interesting comment love hearing stories like this . All the best mate
Fascinating explination on the theory of Air flow & over heating Steve, brilliant. Now enjoy a nice cold one 🍺👍
Cheers Kev hopefully I can finish building my flow bench to test flywheel s more accurately , see us soon
Had air cooled 2 stroke quit, only to start later when cooled a bit. Fuel vapor lock or electrics? Excess heat anyway
Hi mate how’s thing in the USA
A IR temp gun could be used to measure surface temp, instead, right? On my current engine in my blue and orange GP225 TS1, cylinder head temperature on the motorway after four hours of riding on tour with short breaks and only one long lunch break, measured from the lower right cylinder stud, went up to 168 C on the day I holed the piston when I ran the tank dry of fuel! My next TS1 build for my other scooter is using a big, square MB cylinder head with a scoop to direct air to it, with the shroud cut away and directing air only around the cylinder. Would that work? I think the climate here in LA is about the same as you've got in Spain which is why I prefer to ride more in the Winter and Spring. Many edits to write this fully. Btw, I've bought a thermal barrier (plumbers' welding blanket) to protect the carb from heat. What's the best way to secure it?
Yes but remember bellow 4000 rpm the fan is not efficient, so at low rpm the engine heats up anyway .
@@TheSteelweasel okay, good to know, although a majority of my riding is between 6500 - 8000 rpm.
SOMEONE UNSUBSCRIBED LOL IT MUST HAVE HIT THE RIGHT SPOT . 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Best episode of the year. Been looking into this for last two weeks. I cut the flywheel cowling centre out and i am going to cut the left hand side of the head cowl as you have described. A article has a stainless steel plate over the right hand side of the head to stop the air out of the exhaust manifold, it said the fuel kept that side of the head cool . I am going to put a shroud behind the manifold and tap out my flywheel dust cover to make it more pointy. What gasket sealant would you recommend?
THREE BOND
@@TheSteelweasel is threebond petrol resistant?
Can you put a gp200 gearbox in a spanish li150? Or should i get the AF 4 gear close ratio box?
@@Zacky12345 Threebond 1215 and (I think) 1104 are. Permatex do a cheaper alternative, but you'd need to research which one(s). In answer to your question below, yes you can put a GP200 gearbox in a Spanish LI, though you would need to change the sprockets - as to which ones exactly would depend on what top-end/carb/exhaust combination you are running and what you want from it - search Lambretta gearbox ratios (the AF and Cambridge Lambretta pages are helpful).
@@Zacky12345 no you need to change clutch has the LI has a shaft in the center that wont fit in the GP cluster .
Interesting video Steve, Honda had a issue with there V twins and fours due to the body work and location of electrics i.e. regulators even causing fires.
No mumbo jumbo. Facts that make sense. Keep on keepin' on!
I've always cut the centre of the flywheel cowling out since the mid eighties, and I've done the mod to the head cowling(holes along the cylinder head part)a few years ago and no problem as yet even on hot summer days on the M4.i found the coil part interesting and hadn't thought of that.intresting that the mammoth head was thought of by a racer, but you'd of thought they would of known better about cooling🤔nice video Steve very interesting indeed.👍
You drill holes where?
Top Work again , simple and straight forward, how has no one redone the head cowling ,everything makes complete sense
THANKS
See it all the time from so called welders 😂there all over you tube
So bad , hope you were able to fix it properly. 😊

Looks like a piss poor job, bloody cowboys
Wow. We have come a bit further from the under kick start Frescos from the 80's. My hat goes off! 🎉🎉🎉
Hi steve, are these on the market yet, and wot exhausts are they for ,cheers
MADE TO ORDER MATE
Hi Steve, Great channel keep it going. Can you explain how an engine runs in reverse? i rebuild an engine with a 195 kit (BGM) Set the timing to 19• BTDC with a 360° disc. i decided to have it checked by a friend with a buzz wangle and strobe light and it was out. On a few occasions the bike has reversed in first gear, please can you explain? Help!
its an ignition anomaly due to a faulty coil or pick up .
Hi steve ,is there more info or a longer video, cheers
Yes on my channel
