    Top Work again , simple and straight forward, how has no one redone the head cowling ,everything makes complete sense

    Enjoyed that Steve but just a thought. Crankcase has oil splashing round and has a vent albeit small to dissipate pressure and therefore heat. Stator on the other side has neither and probably cant get to the stated “140°C so chances are in England shouldn’t be an issue. That said 100% agree with the cylinder head cooling. Think I’m gonna drill a few holes as you said but it’ll be after 1000 mile run to Aviemore and back starting on Thursday 😉

      IF YOU ONLY HAD AN OIL COOLER 🤣🤣🤣 mmm stator makes its own heat on top of the casing heat . i think more testing needed

    Great video Stephen! I Never even thought about that air flow OVER the head!! My LI 150 used to heat seize when I was 16 (53 years ago) - I’m now thinking it was either bad cooling or the little hole was blocked in the petrol cap!! Fuel starvation?
    Alas, I will never know.

    Interesting video Steve, Honda had a issue with there V twins and fours due to the body work and location of electrics i.e. regulators even causing fires.

    I've always cut the centre of the flywheel cowling out since the mid eighties,and I've done the mod to the head cowling(holes along the cylinder head part)a few years ago and no problem as yet even on hot summer days on the M4.i found the coil part interesting and hadn't thought of that.intresting that the mammoth head was thought of by a racer,but you'd of thought they would of known better about cooling🤔nice video Steve very interesting indeed.👍

    Interesting as always Steve. I always open up the cowling aperture around the head as you mentioned here, it seemed an obvious thing to do! However, I do have a cooling question for you. I'm currently kitting an Italian GP with an RT195 (piston ported). I'd like to keep it's original cylinder head cowl which has the internal deflector / baffle (which seems to channel more air towards the exhaust manifold). So, my question is . . . do I leave the deflector / baffle in place or remove it? Your thoughts would be most welcome 8-).

    • @TheSteelweasel
      @TheSteelweasel  Před 26 dny

      It’s to push air around exhaust port not sure if it’s robbing from head ? I’d would remove and fit a fin where the gap is bellow exhaust port

    Do you think coating the engine whole or just the casing will help

  • @Lambrettist
    @Lambrettist Před měsícem

    A IR temp gun could be used to measure surface temp, instead, right?
    On my current engine in my blue and orange GP225 TS1, cylinder head temperature on the motorway after four hours of riding on tour with short breaks and only one long lunch break, measured from the lower right cylinder stud, went up to 168 C on the day I holed the piston when I ran the tank dry of fuel!
    My next TS1 build for my other scooter is using a big, square MB cylinder head with a scoop to direct air to it, with the shroud cut away and directing air only around the cylinder. Would that work? I think the climate here in LA is about the same as you've got in Spain which is why I prefer to ride more in the Winter and Spring.
    Many edits to write this fully. Btw, I've bought a thermal barrier (plumbers' welding blanket) to protect the carb from heat. What's the best way to secure it?

    • @TheSteelweasel
      @TheSteelweasel  Před měsícem +1

      Yes but remember bellow 4000 rpm the fan is not efficient, so at low rpm the engine heats up anyway .

    Had air cooled 2 stroke quit, only to start later when cooled a bit. Fuel vapor lock or electrics? Excess heat anyway

    Best episode of the year. Been looking into this for last two weeks. I cut the flywheel cowling centre out and i am going to cut the left hand side of the head cowl as you have described. A article has a stainless steel plate over the right hand side of the head to stop the air out of the exhaust manifold, it said the fuel kept that side of the head cool . I am going to put a shroud behind the manifold and tap out my flywheel dust cover to make it more pointy. What gasket sealant would you recommend?

      @@Zacky12345 Threebond 1215 and (I think) 1104 are. Permatex do a cheaper alternative, but you'd need to research which one(s). In answer to your question below, yes you can put a GP200 gearbox in a Spanish LI, though you would need to change the sprockets - as to which ones exactly would depend on what top-end/carb/exhaust combination you are running and what you want from it - search Lambretta gearbox ratios (the AF and Cambridge Lambretta pages are helpful).
