I know I'm late but props to the fencer who acted as the dummy. Imagine spending a day just walking into schiels on purpose!
i respect the commitment to do the moves full speed and give eachother concussions
The chillhaw is a great strike in this demostration
Dude... this is mental. Great storytelling, fantastic choreo, excellent cinematography choices, amazing camera work. 10/10.
I see that the english subtitles are here. Thank you! 🙏
Wow, amazing action! So fast, agile and precise. Love it!
I think this video is just the right one to show someone who is not familiar with HEMA how Longsword works.
Jesus, I can see people move at my club, these guys are so fast it's like guns going off
"you should try to slow your attacks so as to not hurt your partner" hehe sword go SWOOSH
Whatever ,Kendo guy wasn't the top part of that event ,but Anto must be a master of HEMA,its not proper to declare HEMA is better than Kendo。
No one is making such a declaration. Why do you sound so offended?
Impressive and savage!
Yeah no wonder why you win every tournaments or so.... hours upon hours of repeated drills.....so crips and acvurate targeting. No waste of motion and what a mastery of tempi......you and Martin are beasts.....i w8sh i was still in europe . i would havea came for some workshops or intensive private lessons.....i need to be destroyed like that to learn where my defaults are.
👏👏💪
the dude not wearing gloves is giving me anxiety
Thanks, greate !
I keep coming back to this vid. Awsome.
This is amazing.
Where can I buy the swords you are using?
There are a number of sites you can go to. My group generally starts out at purple heart armory, but they do mostly protective gear, they do have a few feders (sparring swords). I personally like sigi-forge, they are a little pricy but worth it in my opinion. Look up HEMA sparring swords and a few options should come up. Good luck!
solo eres un cobarde Anton, lucha con un autentico campeón de kendo como Susumu Takanabe, no con un aficionado como el del video czcams.com/video/YN_BX-7x6fs/video.html
13 years on, still one of my favorite longsword videos...
(totally Non-objective) phatetic video, sparring with a amateur practitioner of kendo. look, thiis is a real combat kendo vs lonsword. czcams.com/video/2vbUVz9POQQ/video.html czcams.com/video/PljOjB3tL2g/video.html
Beautiful footage!
Work that zwerch!
It looks similar to Hokushin Itto Ryu's 'Kiriotoshi tsuki(zuki)'. also kendo's 'kiriotoshi'.
Really shows how game under estimate long swords speed it just happens in a blink of eye
01:53 Holy shit, you literally made sparks upon clashing....
very good video
This is what duels are supposed to look like. By historical accounts a duel would be over seconds after it begins with only one or two swings at most (if a point hasnt been scored in two swings usually its cause they're both not very experienced). Crazy this was 12 years old and still much better than 90% of other German longsword practitioners who take turns striking each others swords and moving back and forth which is good if youre using a sabre where you have to go back and forth between offense and defense but dedicating a longsword to defense in any situation is a losing proposition. When your opponent swings and your response is to attempt to block it your opponent has a chance to score against you, and you have no chance to score against him unless you first succesfully block and then successfully counter. In longsword your attack is your strongest parry.
nice
It's so satisfying... it's my new bedtime video, it helps me relax 🤤
I would have loved a more detailed version but from what I can observe it's a lot about the second hand. On sequence 6, instead of moving the left hand as a false edge swing, you keep your hand as a normal strike, right? Hence the verticality. Or am I missing something?
Simple, basic yet deadly effective! And no doubt such styles of proper longsword fighting wreaked tremendous amounts of bloody havoc on the European battlefields of the late 1400s till the mid 1600s (before it fell out of fashion within the combat context, outside of personal duels!). You guys gave a spectacular demonstration, & what amazing dedication, tenacity, timing & skill!
Longsword fight in Europe was already an ARTWORK before Katanas even existed: czcams.com/video/mjT4JepA-Vc/video.html Katana... NO chance against Longsword
This is like crack for me
@Anton, I met you on Schwabenhau this year and your teaching really inspired and helped me. Please keep going with this series. I would definitely pay for it on Patreon, ever though of that as alternative to CZcams?
I've seen Olympic fencers doing this drill, it's very useful for any point-centered weapon.
You're right! I spoke to Anton Kohutovic and he implied that he and the other fencers of the "Gesellschaft Lichtenawers" use elements from sports fencing for HEMA (which makes perfect sense).
Why do they do that in the mom's basement tho
Because it's cheap?
Excellent video! Mr. Kohutovic, have I seen correctly, you recommend sports fencing as a foundation for people who want to learn HEMA?
I don't say it's necessary. But it won't harm. And it can be pretty beneficial.
Boxing or Judo translate more into HEMA than sport fencing
@@catsultan949 depends on what you mean by HEMA. But I actually don't believe you unless you're top Judo and Hema practisioner at the same time and can elaborate it a bit ;)
@@AntonKohutovic Judo is for throwing when you get into grappling range. I have seen boxers try hema for the first time and sport fencers try it but the boxers always did it better. That is just my opinion based on what I have seen.
@@AntonKohutovic Maybe it's because olympic fencing isn't as big in the US as in Europe and they are not as good here
vypadá moc hezky a přehledně! Úcta!
awesome promo video
very nice moves, love it
Nicely filmed.👍🏿 Please make the captions🙏🏿
Perfektní promo!
Super promo! Skoro by se člověk stěhoval. :D
I wish this had caption subtitles
Will try add them. Thanks for the feedback.
@@AntonKohutovicWorks for me with captions. Great video!
Parádní promo!
This is bullshit, european swords are clumsy.
Weeb in denial
Excellent as always, we need more videos like this one! But I recommend sparring against a practitioner of Kenjutsu, not Kendo (Kendo is more sportive with many rules and regulations).
Thing is, kenjutsu guys don't spar at full speed...
Splendid demonstration, gentlemen! You're by far the best historically oriented swordsmen I'm aware of!
Still one of my the most favourite fencing videos! I hope you will make some new like this...
