Railfanning Southwestern Pennsylvania and beyond!
This channel focuses primarily on railfanning footage from Southwestern Pennsylvania. Most footage will come from Norfolk Southern's Pittsburgh Line, as well as footage from the CSX Keystone Sub. I live in Westmoreland County, PA, so most footage will come from there or nearby counties. I do travel occasionally, and try to shoot at different places on occasion.
Videos shot in 1080 HD, with new uploads multiple times a week. Special videos and compilations will be put up from time to time. Video content includes, but is not limited to: heritage units, rare and unique engines/lashups, or shots at unique locations.
For anyone interested, I also do still photography, and there is a link to my Flickr account on my homepage.
I hope you enjoy what you see, be sure to subscribe!

Two CSX Trains Meet At The Lakeshore Rail Museum - North East, PA
We're at the Lakeshore Railroad Museum at North East, PA on a warm, summer evening. As an eastbound CSX intermodal (I believe CSX I010-31), CSX M267-31, a westbound train of empty autoracks, comes thundering west. Watch as this train with a single SD70MAC leader rolls quickly by. Filmed June 1, 2024.

We're at CP TROBE at Latrobe, PA on Norfolk Southern's Pittsburgh Line. A rare thing is seen in this video - two CSX engines are leading a westbound tanker train through town. Non-NS engines don't lead out here often because of cab signals, but these CSX engines had compatible cab signals and were sent west leading. Talk about rare! Filmed February 24, 2024.

Amtrak Dash 8s Leading The Pennsylvanian (2013-2015)
zhlédnutí 295Před 4 měsíci
When I first got into videoing trains in 2013, it was fairly common to see Amtrak Dash 8s leading The Pennsylvanian on the Pittsburgh Line. At least once or twice a week one would lead the train to Pittsburgh and back. As time went on, they became less and less common leaders, until Amtrak banned them from leading on the Pittsburgh Line in the spring of 2015. Since then they've made virtually n...

It got stopped at Latrobe, allowing me to shoot it at Derry and drive into Latrobe to shoot it again. Both clips are seen in this video. Great, well done Adam!
Awesome catch catching this heritage unit on this train
😢
Like paper towels but less absorbent
Nice catch. I'm in Alabama now, but still check on vids from my hometown in Westmoreland County. Question: Where is this in relation to the bridge that spans the Loyalhanna Creek?
I was about 50 yards to the west of the bridge. You can see the railing for the bridge in the distance.
That is one fast tanker train!
Was unfortunate to not be able to catch them, Latrobe would’ve been my go to spot, would’ve made great pictures
Unusual to see CSX up here or not ?
Not uncommon to see them trailing. It's very rare to see anything besides NS power leading out here due to cab signals. Some CSX engines, like these ones, have compatible cab signals, so they can lead. Definitely few and far between though. Thanks for watching!
I’m glad to see somebody caught it in Latrobe. I had to work this morning, and when I saw it on the HSC cam, I figured I would miss it. Great catch!
Thanks for watching! Didn't want to miss this unusual move!
Great! 👍👍
special gravy special sauce
Nice grab on that! 13v stalled out on horseshoe curve this morning around 7am; they had to throw the helpers in front because of the transformer load.
Mark of the beast. MAJOR DISLIKE
I used to go down there with my grandmother as a kid, i loved those signals with a passion, not that I’m a fuller Railfan with cameras and tripods and all that, I really regret not asking for my own pictures of these, Derry was the first place I saw a train, I was 5 when my grandmother took me here, first train I ever saw was a WB intermodal, can’t believe they’ve been gone for about 4 1/2 years 😢
Those signals sure held a special place in my heart. I grew up in Derry until I got married in 2017. The 307 signals were my go to shot for just about anything. I remember driving into town the day they were coming down - it felt like driving to a funeral! Definitely a sad morning. I'm glad I got to shoot so much under them, as well as all the other old PRR signals like the ones at TROBE, PACK, 318, the Slope signals, to name a few. It sucks without them now, just doesn't quite feel the same. I still make it out to my old stomping grounds between Torrance and Latrobe from time to time, although not quite as much lately. Hard to believe it'll be five years in July. I have tons of footage from trains I shot under the 307 signals, including NKP 765, the UP OCS, the NS OCS a few times, and other ones. The three trains in this video were the last three under the signals before they came down an hour later. I have a video of them tearing them down on here. One of the maintainers from NS on hand that day gave me the track two eastbound numberboard from the 307 signals that I have hanging in my office here at home, one of my most prized possessions!
@@AdamKlimchock Yeah, my prime memory of the CP TROBE signals was with my mother when I was young, ther was a WB helper set on main 1, and as it was passing, a WB auto rack came through too, SD40E’s were still in the helper service, a SD70 and a Dash 8 lead the train, was really something to see both signals over the main lines showing clear, I’ve seen both mains be on clear before, it happened last year when a surge of WB’s and no EB’s led to it, want lucky enough to get a race out of it sadly, I think it has happened to me twice with the new colored signals, and if I can recall correctly, are both posted on my channel, Thank you for subscribing to my channel! My notifications turned off for some reason hence why I responding a little late 😂
I really wish I would’ve known the dates that they were coming down, one of my other most memorable signals were the ones at CP TROBE, I remember a time when my mother took me there and both signals over the mains showed a clear. A helper set on main 2 was the first train to show up. Both were SD40E’s. About 5 seconds later, a WB Auto Rack train came through on main 1, made for a really nice sunny evening. I have seen this twice with the new signals up, once on March 11th, 2023, and July 4th, 2023. I believe I have posted both of which onto my channel. I also wanted to thank you for subscribing!
4:13 Bolivar and Cresson sure do look similar
Isn't that funny how that goes! Whoops!
Great video as always Adam. I always love seeing what you were able to catch especially in Derry. Makes me wish I appreciated certain locomotives and sights like the signal more when I was younger and could railfan that area more. All the best!
Great! 👍👍
Awesome video! It has taken me back to when I was younger and remember seeing these units on the Pennsylvanian all the time
The Dash-8s have made one rare appearance in early 2020. And that was it...
I have a video of that on here somewhere. I think it was January of 2020 or 2021.
The result of the former NS president lining his pockets before retiring; selling off needed locomotives to shore up the stock price…..and his own wallet. NS is now in a hot mess with lack of motive power now because of that idiot.
I thought the Strasburg Railroad was going to restore #39 to service? Are they still planning on that? I heard they might be giving it to a museum now
Wow interesting… did not know they even ran a B32 on the Pennsylvanian in the 2020s
How did you get to the shot at 6:35 ? I’ve been back there, but it was like a 3/4 mile to a mile walk, is there any way shorter to get back there?
Behind Dunkin Donuts in Latrobe, there's a business with a small parking lot below the industrial track there. I park in that lot. There's a small path up the hill there. You walk up the path and have to cross over the Unity Industrial and up a small hill to get to the tracks, but it's only about a two minute walk up to the CP TROBE eastbound signals. The trains fly through there, just a warning, and eastbounds tend to show up without any warning. Sometimes you can pick up the 304 and 317 detectors. In all my years trackside, it seems like Latrobe picks up stuff on the radio the worst, so it's easy to simply not pick up the detectors. I've never had any issues being out there, and have had MOW drive by me there. Hope this helps!
@@AdamKlimchock Thank You so much! Walking from the station down past the WB signals sucks, I didn’t know there was a path back there, do you need permission from the business owner to park there for 2ish hours of no?
@@Railfan_Matthew8104 I've been parking there for years with no issues. There's a sort of smaller area of pavement away from the business I park at and no one has ever said anything.
@@AdamKlimchock ok, thank you!
Really nice with the ear buds in ! I wonder if Hobo Shoestring was in the boxcar with the door cracked open ? Lol Nice video
Fortify the salmon!
Nice video Adam. Always nice to see your catches, but I feel the same. Haven't gotten out much recently. Maybe soon things will feel different, at least we can hope. Have a great new year!
You also, thanks for watching!
I don't know if anyone noticed that jumping kid at the end, but that was me.
Just visited Derry today. Can't get over the view with no signals even 4 years later! Did the crew let you keep anything else from the signal rather than the numberboard? Would love to get my hands on something from the signal since I grew up watching trains roll through there. Keep up the great videos!
Sadly no, most of it was ripped apart as they took it down. The upper cross section sat there for a week, along with some of the beat up signals. They took it out to Torrance and threw it in a pile along with other discarded signals where it sat for about a year. The other two numberboards that were on the signal were saved and are in good hands. It sure does look different out in Derry without the signals. Hard to believe it's been that long!
Nice job , nothing wrong with the camera angle to me.
Was it restored to running condition?
No just repainted
@@skipperpenguinofmadagascar8273, that sucks that it's a "dud" engine. I'm hoping UP does another DDA40X to be a runner.
What time did this pass? I'll see it in Sewickley if it hasn't already gone by
This passed through PACK at around 12:30ish. I imagine it's gone, but if you've been out for awhile and haven't seen it, you might get lucky. It was behind 269 by 45 minutes.
@@AdamKlimchock definitely past me by now. Thanks for the information
this is also the same location were signal tower dr was located, it was in a persons back yard.

we'll get paperwork and a qualified crew to run this train at Amtrak speeds - gives a good impression of how the track rides for management
