CurryKitten Sim - using proper radios on iPhones/iPads
This is something I've been working on for the past few weeks ever since I learned that ELRS is including Wi-Fi-based joystick support in ELRS 3.4. I got onto this a bit late, so I'm paying catch up a little.
It was working on the desktop pretty quickly, but when actually testing on a real iPhone I had to fundamentally change the way it worked - twice! Anyway, this should be coming out soon(ish) along with support for Tracer/Crossfire modules.
It was actually the Velocidrone folks that pushed this idea through - so props (pun intended) to them for the idea!

ZLL SG216 Brushless RC Drift Car - supplied by Banggood

I'd tried a drift car before which had a gyro in it, but I found it quite difficult to get it pointing in the direction I wanted. This ZLL version has no gyro - and also road tyres if you want to drive around normally. Will the absence of the gyro help or hinder the drift abilities? What KV motors? That looks to be slower on a punch out then a Phantom2, which admittedly is the fastest of that product family. The DJI Naza flight controller does have a full manual mode, but it's difficult to access on the DJI Transmitter, as the same switch position does either RTH or Manual, and RTH is more useful on those, but in full manual it will climb and roll a lot faster then expected.

    • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten Před 5 hodinami

      900kv those old thing. Naza does indeed have a manual mode, but you don't have any control over the rates, so if you've ever done a flip or roll, it takes around 2 seconds to complete so you need to be pretty high :)

    Note that any metal near an antenna will change the "antenna pattern". So Even though the battery at times is not between the antenna and receiver, it will reflect some of the transmitted energy towards the receiver. Depending on the distance from the VTX antenna, that power might add or subtract (and with different effects at different angles). Moving the battery to the underside probably gives you more uniform reception regardless of Quad orientation.

    • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten Před 8 dny

      You can't - at least in any way I'm aware of. The easiest way of accomplishing this is to simply add a flight controller in there and treat it as an OSD. I'm just doing this at the moment (for an analog setup) I'm using betaflight on a car, with a single arm switch and the only thing I needed to do extra was set runaway_takeoff_prevention=off

    • @yaronskp

      @@CurryKitten how does the FC connects to the ESC? I don't understand as it seems the design is direct PWM receiver->ESC. How the FC will operate the PWM ESC? Is the gyro on the FC used for traction control in such configuration instead of a gyro module? I wish I could see a connection diagram 😢

    • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten Před 8 dny

      It doesn't - I was actually using a 14 channel BetaFPV ELRS PWM RX for this, but in doing so I was able to connect to the FC via CRSF and then to the cars servos/esc directly from PWM. The FC in this case is doing nothing other than acting as a dumb OSD

    • @yaronskp
      @yaronskp Před 7 dny

      @@CurryKitten I think that a FC can operate a PWM motor like a servo. You should do a resource mapping and some definitions and it supposed to work. I think I'll try out a drone like configuration.

    • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten Před 7 dny

      Yeah - you can run an ESC on PWM to use the motors in that way - but it's not going to help in terms of the telemetry, which was your initial question. In terms of using an RC bar and an FC, the reason I'm directly connecting the servo outputs and ESC to the RX is that Betaflight doesn't know how to mix motors for a car, and if you go the iNav route - it does, but you'll need a GPS/Compass as well

      I never measured it. I did know the motors can take 4S and the ESC board can handle a lot.... it was really a question of was I pulling too many watts for the motors to handle. Based on the fact that nothing exploded I think it was ok. What I'd heard in the past was that although DJI used to sell those motors with 30A opto ESCs, they were being very conservative about the amp draw, and really only needed around 18A escs

    Gawd, there's even a MultiStar LiPo on it, you're taking me waaaaay back my friend! I just did this a few months ago with a Reptile 450 and a SpeedyBee F405/50A stack, as an homage to my first builds with HobbyKing DeadCats, same sort of wobbly mess for me too, but good enough for a shelf queen.

      Can't get those anymore can you! Back in the day I was flying on 3S with 2 x 2200's in parallel. They are a good laugh to get out and see how we used to fly

    Wayne, isn’t there a pitch nearby that has a running track around the outside parameter? you should take it over there and just see if you could run it for a short bit. That’s impressive.

      Not really - we're devoid of any wide open spaces. Best bet are car parks after dark

      My goto is RushFPV for VTX's AKK have been ok in the past but I haven't used them for a while. I've just got a 10W version in from them, so that'll be interesting

    Bi blade props, but Im guessing you dont have a prop balancer..?..Those plastic arms are very flexible though....🤔🤔🤔🇬🇧

      They were balanced. These are my beloved Graupner E props and are over 10 years old themselves. It is a really flexible frame though

    to get rid of the wobble you need to balance the biblades props. that's what I do back in the days when I flew this kind of 450 or Hobbyking 450 deadcat. and the sound of it is still amazing...❤

      They were balanced... well I balanced them 10 years ago and the little bits of tape are still there. the frame itself is quite flexible which I think is an issue. I;m sure it would tune up a bit nicer with some effort
