  • On test today we have another little USB-C based charger (although it can run on DC as well) the extra thing this has though, is its own smartphone app so you can monitor and start/stop it remotely.

    In today’s electronic world of miniaturization and unbelievable multifunction capable displays, it’s beyond me and those I know that a charger would not offer the option of a storage charge and a discharge to 50% storage level. Just today and yesterday as well, I had several batteries I needed to discharge back to storage level and several I needed to bring up to storage level. Factually in the field or at home It is something you truly use on every outing.

      Chargers are dreadful at bringing a charged battery back to storage voltage, they struggle to disapate the heat. I have a FD200 from ISDT and that makes bringing such batteries down to storage voltage a doddle. It is quite noisy though as the fans blow the air over the heat sinks.

    • @Mikeylikesit1968

      If you would storage a lipo on that charger would take hrs and hrs . Everyone should be using a separate discharger for that. Also the heat from discharging a lipo would destroy the charger

    • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten  Před 4 měsíci +4

      If a charger tries to discharge at a higher rate than it can dissipate the heat, then it's a pretty crap charger isn't it. Storage charge is also for bringing lipos back up to 3.8v per cell as well as discharging, and this charger does neither.

    Totally agree, B6neo is totally a better option due to the 608PD lack of storage charge/discharge! Hugely dissapointed with ISDT! And thank you for pointing it out, you are the only reviewer I found that puts it clearly.

      For me, it's an important function. It needs to be pointed out

  • @ocelee7794
    @ocelee7794 Před 4 měsíci +4

    Storage charged is an essential function. After a day of flying, i would go home and storage charged all my packs before keeping them away. ISDT has added some non-essential function but left out the most important and essential storage function. Such a deal breaker.
    If this decision is due to cost, trying to keep the price competitive, I would rather they remove the app function as its actually more inconvenience to take your phone to connect to charger than to simply pressing the buttons on the charger directly. It cost money to put an app on playstore too.
    Lastly, the PD must have a separate input and output and having a USB A output would be useful at times too.
    Hope a v2 addresses all this, or perhaps Skyrc can come out with one too with an upgraded fan supplier of course.

      I can tell you know not much about chargers. As small as the charger is , it would take hrs and hrs to discharge a lipo. Discharging lipos generate a lot of heat . That charger wouldn't be able to handle it and fry it. Best to use a dedicated lipo discharger

    • @ocelee7794
      @ocelee7794 Před 4 měsíci

      @@Mikeylikesit1968 no one(at my flying) use chargers to discharge batteries. We use it to charge batteries back to storage voltage before keeping it. We usually have more than 10 packs way below 3.8v after flying, so storage charged is essential to our chargers. I personally do not like parallel charging, so i have more than 10chargers to do the job fast

      @@Mikeylikesit1968 Its a choice. You simply choose to sacrifice to fully utilize the battery's capacity and flight time by using it only till the storage voltage, thereby not using your charger's storage function. I made the same mistake :-(. Just assumed a modern charger would storage charge. It’s a shame as the charger itself is good,and the app is quite good. They could have done so much more with the app as well - keep logs for each battery for example.

    Come home with everything broken and 10 charged batteries...
    My friend, been there, and while throwing them on my chargers would eventually get the job done, ended up buying lots of "LED Discharger Plugs" with XT60 and XT30 ports, plus plenty of 1S variants for the Whoops.

    If only its possible for them to add a storage/discharge function that allows you to plug the lipo via the balance and charge lead...and discharge it by charging a device via the USB C output. The lipo can be monitored to stop at 3.86v (or something that you can set via the app) when its charging the USB C device. Even their Batt Checker Batt GO BG-8S can do that.

    Batteries with bad balance leads are not trash. It can be perfectly safe, and it certainly isn't difficult, to remove the wrap above the tinned cells, and remake the balance lead. Seems rather wasteful to throw away good lithium because of a tiny wire.

    • @MCsCreations
      @MCsCreations Před 4 měsíci

      Sure, just keep the fire extinguisher near you. And that IF the other cells aren't really dead.

      @friendlyfire01 Před 4 měsíci

      @@MCsCreations If you need a fire extinguisher handy you've already done something wrong. Firstly, an extinguisher will not put out lithium. Second, if you are doing this around other easily flammable objects you've done a no-no. Thirdly if the cells were just dead you would get 0.0v from the charger, not an empty cell. This battery is 100% fine, and its balance lead has a small break. Happens all the time!

      Opening up 7 or 8 year old lipos on the off chance the the cell might not be dead isn't really something I'm super interested in and looking at the voltage from the xt60 it would reflect that at least one of the cells has gone

      Well it's not like there's a "reviewers group chat" in Whatsapp we all use to decide what product to look at next. In the case of many companies when they have a new product that they've made, or are looking to promote something, they will approach multiple people - so you can end up getting lots of reviews on the same item. While it can seemingly fill up your feed with the same thing, at least you have access to different opinions from different channels
