As an adult, I was (mis?)diagnosed as bipolar, then diagnosed ADHD, and it wasn’t until I was in my 30s that I started learning about ASD. I recently had a neuropsych eval and they said bipolar, GAD, something neurological, and that I needed to have an ASD assessment to rule it out. My results won’t be ready for a while, but I’m afraid of hearing them… ASD makes my entire life make sense, but what if they tell me I’m not? I’ll be lost and confused again. Nothing else checks all the boxes the way ASD does. Life is so tiring, and not understanding the “why” behind my experiences/behaviors makes it so much more… Confusing. Exhausting. Unbearable. Thank you for making these videos. I have never related to anyone more. Somehow, it is comforting to know I’m not alone in my experiences.

So many steps to prepare for to get ready! So I have all my things to help me cope I always had a back pack full of snacks toys showed up campfire with rolling cooler basically pulling out things to entertainment but also intentionally raise eyebrows if anyones watching . I loved this video! This helped me to realize just how much I actually stim and never realized that's what I was doing. Being around people in public or at work is extremely anxiety and stress inducing for me to the point I'm almost constantly doing something to ease my nerves. I love singing along with songs I know. If I'm at work, cashier at a store, I have to sing or tap along with whatever song I'm listening to while waiting on customers. Also, I'll randomly feel like singing while at home and it depends on what song decides to pop into my head that I hear like it's actually playing. I have to have a tidy environment around me or I start panicking. My house and work area at work always has to be picked up. I absolutely abhor hair salons. I hate people I don't know touching me and making snarky noises as I pass by after my hair is cut making me think it looks bad or I look ugly. This is why I've learned to cut my own hair which I like to think looks good. When I was young and in school I'd tap my foot a lot while in class and still do this quite a bit. I also tend to rock I've noticed if I'm sitting watching videos on my phone. All of this plus many other things, namely the scratching, have led me to believe that I have Autism. While it doesn't make any of what I have to go through go away, it makes it easier to deal with knowing a little bit more about myself. Again, thank you for this video. It was very informative to me and very helpful. I greatly appreciate the video you made. I wish you and your wife the best and hope you have a very happy life together.

I tend to repeat individual words in accents, like if I hear someone with a really great accent say a word that just hits me right, I'll mimic it. Right now it's the way Izzy Hands in Our Flag Means Death pronounces the word "there." He points to three targets and goes "There, there, and there" but it's a Northern English accent so it sounds nothing like my midwestern American, and it's just REALLY FUN to try to get his pronunciation down. Same with almost anything Rhys Darby says - his voice is delightful! I don't know how to explain why I do it other than it makes my mouth feel nice.

I drink kefir for breakfast. I eat crackers and cheese every day for lunch. The kefir is for gut problems. I eat whole grain crackers and cheese because it is easy, not too unhealthy and I don't have to decide what to eat. I eat different things for dinner every night. I try to be healthy but I hate to cook because I have executive functioning problems and have a physical illness (POTS) that feels like having chronic fatigue syndrome. So my boyfriend cooks dinner and I wash the dishes.

We all eat different foods in my house. I have a suspicion that my son may have Aspergers autism like I do. I have always been into cold or room temperature foods. Have to be in the mood for something warm. I do have issues with responding to the needs for food or drinks so I put an alarm on every 2 hours to help me with taking a drink of water or snack on something. Love eating while I stand up so does my son sometimes we have to walk around while we eat, can’t stand noises ,no music, no tv, no talking during a meal. Have to pick quiet restaurants. I do have some restaurants under my needs when I am in public I don’t do any walking while I eat but I do still get to stand. My son eats only hot food majority of the time so his cold and room temperature foods are only 2 of each kind. When I get a reminder for liquid I remind him at the same time. Sometimes we both get dizzy at some point. I used to panic and try to drink and eat until the dizziness went away but that sometimes ended up with a stomach ache. Now I have gotten help to understand my eating habits so I don’t over indulge or panic from dizziness. My parents thought I was over dramatic when I refused to eat any kind of meat, I just hate the way it feels in my mouth and I can’t stand it. So I would end up spitting it in my napkin or waiting for my parents to leave the table to give it to my sister so I could eat her veggies that she didn’t like eating and she could have the meat from my plate. I was always swapping food with my siblings because I just can’t stand hot or warm food most of the time. Cold and room temperature food is my favorite kind of foods because of the temperature and most of them feel good in my mouth and are enjoyable. When we can a diagnosis for my son they will help us with my son’s eating habits. Hopefully this will help parents understand that there is nothing wrong with the way we eat because you have your way of going about it which you are not aware of what you are doing during mealtimes. Your habits seem normal to you just as much as we think ours are normal. It seems most people without autism don’t mind noise during their meals and conversations. Plus most of you open your mouths when chewing, make humming noises, and tap on the table with your fingers or a utensil. It’s just too much noise for me and my son most of the time agrees with that. He hates being in restaurants, we have to take our food to go or get it delivered. He has to do his fast walking during mealtime.

I'm so confused.. as an adult (37) I had professional testing for autism and they said.. a lot of traits..but nope, you can't have autism because of emotional intelligence score, which was not only higher than they expect for autistic people but much higher that for neurotypical (even they told me they never saw such a high score on that part of test) .. diagnosis - sensory integration disorder.. After years I still don't know what to think about it.. I'm just a weirdo (and I like it 😂) but when I'm listening to Chris it's so strangely familiar.. Please if anyone had any experience like that or heard about a similar situation.. anything.. please share

I thought my hatred for people watching me eat, eating the same food every day, hatred of listening to people eating, picking at my food in a systematic way, all had to do with my anorexia nervosa. I was alone with Dad one morning as a kid, eating breakfast. We were sitting there eating, no tv, no radio. His chewing got louder and louder. The tongue smacking, swishing, swashing, swallowing, crunching. Finally I screamed, “Stop!! Just … STOP IT!!!” Poor Dad sat there like a deer caught in the headlights, a piece of toast hanging out of his mouth as I ran from the room crying. I remember every second of that encounter. I cannot stand listening to people talking online without music or background noise. The sound of their spit bubbles in their mouth popping, their dry tongue getting stuck on the top of their mouth and slowly pulling it away like it’s velcroed on their mouth, their throat making odd noises. Yuck! Thankfully, this video didn’t have those noises. And yes the plate sounds! I hate the sound of forks and knives scraping across a plate. Just THINKING about it makes me cringe!! I hate hearing people drink. So I wear earplugs when I have to eat with someone, and they refuse to turn on a tv. It takes the edge off the sounds. Tip: if you can’t handle certain noises, don’t get an African grey parrot! Oh! My! Gosh!!! I inherited Dad’s bird and I caught him making Dad’s chewing sounds!! Seriously??! Sheesh!!

I have always self-soothed by gently sliding fabric under my nails..the bias edge of cloth, some ribbons, cuffs, collars, button edges. My mom called it “picking”. I also love the sensation of “weaving” things between my fingers or pressing into the bend of the joint space between my palm and fingers.
