Not a fan of ads but they have been used as a gameplay mechanic. FF15 had a few and a quest it was cringe but more palatable than a pop up.

Modern sensibilities assume ad-free as a default part of paying for something. Imagine paying for a DVD but they put cable commercials in the middle of the disk.

I can see it now, instead of a 5 second loading screen I get a two-minute ad about how I can save 20% on my car insurance by doing such and such.... Pretty sure i'd just stop gaming at that point, or play games so old that they cannot put in ads for them.

I don't even see how it could work outside of sports or "modern era" videogames. Like.. how would you advertise an IRL product in say, a Star Wars game? Or a Fantasy game? Or any game that looks like it isn't set in the 21st century?

We know their corporate bullshit "thoughtful" already. If you cut CEOs and Managers on the one side (getting most of the money) and Investors on the other... you should have a very successful studio. Let Investors and CEOs (and no other staff) make their own games.

This has already happened in some games. If you remember ff15 had a cup noodles hat, stands/ads and even a sidequest. That said i do hate the idea.

Ingame adverts that interrupt gameplay are gross. If I was dumb and played EA' Sports titles. The billboards surrounding a sports field...at least that would be authentic, and a bit of product placement adverts. I don't watch TV partly because of adverts. I'll be angry if a premium title gets them.

The only exception is a free to play game. As soon as you charge the players, piss off with your ads.

Disruptive ads are 100% unacceptable. Only things I can live with is „immersive ads“ that fit into the game world. If you have real-life ads in football (soccer) I‘m fine if EAFC has the same ads on ingame bilboards. Anything that breaks the immersion is an instant dealbreaker. A SW: Jedi game cannot have any real-life ads in it

I will never "buy" anything again that is associated with EA. And you have to be cautious with the term "buying" because effectively you only rent games with a limited time.

Ads in games should begin and end with product placement, like how Sam in Death Stranding drinks Monster Energy while resting in the bases. It's not in your face, it isn't actively trying to sell you something, it's just pruduct acknowledgement that makes sense within the context of the game. Same thing happened in MGS4, little energy drinks for Snake, or listening to a branded iPod. If done tastefully it can even be funny. But I don't trust EA to do this right or tastefully.

All triple A studio is gunning for the worst gaming studio. Only smaller companies so far been doing great and FromSoftWare.

It's incredible how the games industry is still figuring itself out like this. Like, have you heard of product placement, EA execs? Other cultural entertainment industries have advertized to their audience in artful commercial products without creating animosity, because they sneak it in instead of taking you out of the experience.

So we pay £60-£70 for a game, they put in microtransaction / battlepass etc. Now they want adverts in our games!. WOW when will the greed stop with these people. I think they should put adverts in their software that they use to do bussiness with. Every few mins an advert pops up and they have to wait 30 seconds to continue their bussiness, see how they f*cking like it!!. Very bad idea (but they know this), i will not buy any game that has any kind of bullshit in it. "AAA" games are a thing of the past (for the most part).

Any ad in a game that I paid full price for, is an instant refund request. It *might* be acceptable in situations where ads are naturally seen, like around the field in FIFA or racing games.. but that's the limit.
