I hope the game turns out cool as as the trailers make it look, but from the overpriced editions that lock content and "early access" to the online requirement to play the physical edition to the Stop Killing Games movement Ubisoft is embroiled in, it's not hard to imagine why optics are so negative right now.

Me: Fine. Be comfortable not owning my money.

The guy was answering the question: "What is necessary for game subscription services to take off?" Obviously a gamer needs to be comfortable with not owning games to use such a service.
Well said dude!

@@YuniorGamboa It certainly makes for good video clips. There's nothing like watching these self-satisfied jokers eat sh1t onstage.
Also, as a Canadian, there's a cruel irony to a Ubisoft game costing so much here; they're one of our countries biggest studios and get millions in tax relief and government grants, support programs etc. but we still pay way more to buy their products
Of course, Ubisoft found that government funding is an untapped potential, merely to exploit (as was the case with Skull and Bones.) That's all they do, provide a product purely to exploit as many people as possible. They've unfortunately done it for the last decade, and its only getting worse.
Huh one would expect them to facilitate somehow in their own damn country. I remember during the times of Far Cry 3 here in Brazil Ubisoft had a policy of making their prices lower for new games, it was great and actually worked for a few years. Back when they still used to make fun games.
Video games are almost always [relatively] cheaper in the United States than anywhere else.
Even games developed here in the UK will cost say £60 here and $60 in America - which saves Americans $15 more than their UK counterparts.
Same case for Skull & Bones in Singapore. They had government grants and huge subsidies to support local video game developers in the Singapore office and yet the project was terribly mismanaged to churn out a half baked product which they called "quadruple A" game. I'm legitimately surprised how they are still not held legally accountable at this point.
Just wait a month and it will be on sale for half it original price, that’s how Ubisoft works

Since when did people learn their lesson. Average people are s tupid and will just consume everything they can get. I never understood this premise. They do know when we play games that it's a part of our day we've set aside for entertainment. If the game was actually good then there would be no need for time savers, they should want us to enjoy each moment of their game not skip past it.

Ya'll need to get this through your heads: They don't WANT this game to be played in 20 years, like Skyrim and Fallout. In 20 years they want you renting streamed games like a videogame version of Netflix. They want to be able to delete your entire game library for Wrong-Think. They want to own YOU the way you want to own your games.
If we refuse to buy any Triple A games for the next two years, we will be reminding them of one critical fact: They need us more than we need them. There's plenty of AWESOME indie games out there for you to enjoy for the next two years. And you PC gamers reading this know you have a Steam backlog that can easily keep you entertained for the next two years.
Close your wallet to ALL Triple A Studios for just TWO years and the gaming industry will come crawling and begging us to return with good, consumer-friendly practices front and center. But you have to do it for at least two years. That's the minimal development/fiscal cycle needed to force the bean counters at these Studios to take notice and implement the necessary changes.
You're dead on that they want to put a stop to people playing games beyond their shelf life in an effort to force consumers into spending money on the next thing.
Waaay ahead of you. My favorite game right now is Valheim. I have no interest in any AAA game.
i dont think you understand how the game industry works my guy
@@CameronShember Any other time I would have agreed and not bothered. But in this "Fool's Golden Era" of Triple A gaming where the studios now go out of their way to spit in the faces of thier customers all over social media while simultaneously cranking out trash games with ugly characters and brazenly predatory payment models....they're doing the bulk of the work for us. They're making it hilariously easy to boycott them.
We've already proven we can perform a spectacular BUYcott with Hogwarts Legacy. Now it's time to really show these studios who's in charge. We'll never have a more perfect confluence of events and circumstances than we have right now.
And it ain't like we even all have to do it. If even a quarter of the people reading this do it, the Studios are gonna FEEL it. If every four person friend group has at least one person doing it, that will get the job done.
No more excuses guys. We do this or it simply gets done for us a few more years down the road when the industry as a whole caves in on itself.
Controlled burn to get rid of the dead weight within two years, or complete industry-wide implosion within ten years. Those are our options now.
@@CameronShember I said Buycott. Not boycott. Hogwarts was a spectacular BUYcott. Boycotts are harder to do and maintain than Buycotts are, I agree...but again, the Triple A studios themselves are going out of their way to make it easier than it has ever been. And easier than it will ever be short of total industry-wide implosion.
If we still can't do it with all these factors in our favor, then we deserve to watch the industry fail.
CEOs need to get comfortable with us not buying their slop
Well in this instance you could pay $18 for a month's sub to Ubisoft+, play the Ultimate Edition that costs $130 on their cloud gaming service and then immediately cancel the sub in the same month...you don't own the game, but you've probably had $18 worth out of it...and Ubisoft don't get the $130 sale. Another thing that isn’t even mentioned here is the fact that there’s a disclaimer at the beginning of the video that says “Not all images appear in game”. This is giving me Aliens: Colonial Marines and Anthem vibes. Like, this trailer is false advertising and not representative of the final product, but it’s totally fine legally cuz it has a one-second disclaimer “warning” everyone, so it’s all of your faults if you missed it.
Why the fuck is shit even in the trailer if it’s not in the game unless it’s to trick people…?
They make the trailers before they finish the game. With regard to the initial trailers they release, those are made and put out a year to years, plural, before the game itself comes out. Same happens for movies pretty often.
The complaint that would be heard here is that studios release trailers too early in development, because that's really the only way to fix this. You definitely don't want devs locking into something just because it was a feature early in development, that would be a massive train wreck lol
I agree, in-engine trailers should be banned unless they're reveal trailers.
Having a launch trailer being in-engine is disingenuous
Sounds like cyberpunk
idk why shit like this aint illegal yet
Also Watchdogs. Not all images appear in game also means actual quality of the graphics may be seriously downgraded. See that lighting? See that reflection? See that texture? Those are all images in a video. Don't expect them to be there.
I expected Ubisoft to mess this up, but I didn't expect it to happen so quickly
Game's not even out yet and they're tripping on the umbilical cord.
Not quickly enough.
What have they messed up
As a Malaysian, with that kind of price tag $130 for ultimate bundle converted to MYR is equivalent to more than MYR500 to us here. Most expensive I've seen in video game thus far.
You don't have to pay for it
FF7 Rebirth is now the gold standard for what a triple A game should look like in my mind. If you can't hit that level of content and quality, I'm not paying full price.
Every who owns "The Crew" should support Ross of "Accursed Farms" to help stop companies from killing games.
An online requirement is a bigger deal breaker for me than the price, to be honest.
EDIT: Adding this since some people are getting triggered. My reasoning for it being a bigger deal breaker is because it doesn't matter if the game is $1 or $100: the online requirement will still be there.
Yeah that’s kinda bs not being able to play it without it
Stop paying 100$ for a shit game
So, if they remove the online requirements, you would buy the game $110?
Me too. I kinda refuse to get most AAA games now. Indie games are where it's at.
@Windupchronic
What a clown!
The price.
The always online.
BOTH suck!
The longer time goes on the I realize how much more I appreciated the near-unlimited replayability of games like Civilization, Skyrim, etc. that need no online requirement or endless seasons/DLC to enjoy. Of late I'm getting more fun out of primitive games like Dwarf Fortress, Path of Exile, Vampire Survivors, Rule the Waves 3, etc. than any "AAA" company is dumping out.
Don't forget mod support, something these always online crap will never get.
That and smaller indie titles made by people who wanted to make a game, not a product. I look at stuff like Brigador, Deep Rock Galactic, Art of Rally (all 3 which I could get for the base price of this game) and I'd so much rather spend my limited time playing those.
As others have said why pay a premium to play the game "early" when the game is likely to be released in a buggy, incomplete state? Nowadays it's usually best to wait a year before you buy a AAA game. It's not only cheaper, but also has had a chance for bugs to be fixed. AAA used to mean high quality both in terms of production values and in terms of QA. It used to be that AAA studios had the time and budget to do a thorough QA pass before they released a game. Now a lot of indie games and AA games are released more complete and with better visuals than many AAA games. That's one reason I am happy to see GoG and Steam covering the triple-i initiative this week highlighting indie games.
It’s possible for The Crew to be playable offline. Sony made a offline patch to make Gran Turismo Sport completely playable offline. Car costs in game were also devalued so they weren’t crazy expensive.
Ubisoft deleted my Ubisoft account and all of my games I purchased. The entire company should be shut down and everyone involved with deleting games and accounts should be thrown in jail

Some advice i have is. Play all the old games you never had the chance to play that are 80% off on steam while you wait for the new games to inevitably go on sale because large publishers are so desperate for immediate results they will drastically lower the price of a game just to boost the "copy's sold" number and make some extra profit as soon as they can.

Anyone else remember when the $130 Whale Edition of games included stuff like a metal case, a large physical artbook, and a nice looking statue?

Ross Scott's video exposing the Crew, is the center reason why people hate Ubisoft.
Represent, yo.
Facts!
I've never heard of him, but I'm interested. What video? What was it about?
@@billybob7135 It's mentioned in the yongyea video. Just search for The largest campaign ever to stop publishers destroying games. It's by Accursed Farms
i think is a solo player game has a must-be online part, once they close it like The Crew, they should patch it so it make it now server/close that call command and allowed a offline function so can still play it after the servers are gone.
The online requirement kills this game for me, even tho im a huge star wars fan. No way will i buy a single player game that NEEDS an internet connection because thats just one step away from the consumer not owning their physical media!
Good on you for giving Ross a shout out. His efforts when it comes to fighting this always online stuff/games preservation is def to be commended.
I've been watching Ross Scott since the Machinima days, when he did Freeman's Mind and Civil Protection. He still does Freeman's Mind to this day, but I imagine this issue takes precedence since he's slowed on releases.
He's a real one. One of us.
Can you imagine how the heartache of creators like you and me will amplify over the years as the games and cartoons we work on vanish?
I got into vo and game design partly because of a chronic disease. They told me I didn't have long to live (so far so good, anyway). So I wanted to leave a legacy of some kind, especially as I don't want to pass this on to any kids I would have had.
Now? Games I've worked on are gone. Cartoons, poof. Commercials you expect to come and go, but any sense of legacy is just... eliminated. A body of work is hard enough to make in an industry going through this much competition and transition, but this steals the future, itself.
Characters used to not be ugly, now they are..... not an accident

I don't even have a horse in this race, though. I'm not buying it anyway solely because it's a Ubisoft game
Okay 👍
When I saw the pricing my jaw dropped then I realised it’s Ubisoft then it all made sense.
Surprised it’s not branded as a new AAAA game.
Cuz this one is world first quintuple games ever!
"AAAAh shit, look how much that costs"
the sad thing is, when this flops, they gonna go "no one is intrested in starwars" rather than it a case of no one wants to be robbed.
"And more" way to dance around the issue, young safe
Here in Australia the base version of the game is $99.95, you want the bonus ripoff edition? Well thats $189.95. $190!!! What the actual fuck? You know how many indie games i can buy for $200, somewhere between 10 and 20 games... This is just ridiculous, Ubisoft is pricing themselves out of the market, and you know what, i am okay with that.
Curious, if this game doesn't do well, will Ubisoft say single player games are dying? Like it wasn't there own fault.
Maybe, but who cares? They're losing relevance by the day. That "Ubislop" line is so accurate lol.
@@roflBeckTheir singleplayer games usually do extremely well and I dont see a reason this one will be different, there's always people calling them a shot company but that hasn't changed anything, they know their core audience and they know what they want.
It's fairly obvious why a game would require "always online" it means they are going to have micro transactions/in game currency. If it wasn't always online you could cheat paid resources into your game.
Yeah it’s that simple.
But it’s not always online. All it means is you have to do a one-time online connection to install the game.
@@Ryan._ bet?
@@Ryan._ Yes and by connecting to their servers they can ensure that you're not altering your game data.
It also means they can shut it down at some point and you won't get access to your $130 purchase.
I remember when i paid $100 for Diablo III from Gamestop. I waited in line at midnight to pick it up. It came with Diablo II in a soulstone thumbdrive, came with a DVD with special items on it, a hard cover game guide, a music cd... and a special box case. I seriously wish we could go back to that. Physical beautiful stuff... and i can still use it all years later

I really hate how before the game is even out they strip it of content to sell it later as fake DLC instead of making real DLC full of content.
The only company who does DLC right is CDPR (Witcher 3) all the rest are thieves who just deprive a game of content to steal more of your money.

Yeah don't forget FromSoft. They really deliver on their DLC content.
There's also Larian. They WON'T do DLC because screw WotC and Hasbro.

Stellar Blade over Starwars Outlaw.

Same. I can put my money to better use other than towards some "game" that scams me.

It's hard for me to get angry at this point. Ultimately, they wouldn't sell these editions if people weren't buying them. The sad truth is there's a large portion of gamers who are ever-willing to spend their hard-earned money on stupid shit. And so the companies sell us stupid shit. It's sad, but not surprising.

I think that you, YongYea, as many other influental content creators, could contact your government as a whole and demand for game preservation or either a way to no get blasted by a company that relies on "live service" games to prevent us from enjoying them in the long run.
You have the power and you have the voice, so why not start it?
I remember the days when Ubisoft actually was a half decent company who was capable of making solid to good games on a fairly consistent basis. Those days are long gone unfortunately. Everywhere I look it feels like Ubisoft is always doing or saying something stupid.
Unless you’re the new Prince of Persia game.
What is the point even watching the trailer? It will either be cancelled or look nothing like this.
This is such a solid take. Thank you! I love how you always present gaming news with a level head. You seem like such a genuine person who truly cares about the gaming industry and wants to see it thrive, not burn.
I'm excited for this game but I do think it's an example of a larger issue at play in regards to corporate greed and how greed is messing with the gaming industry. It's also like only to become a larger problem across the board for all media preservation if we don't take action now. With the new digital era, media and art preservation should be more, not less, common. And yet it feels like the digital age is threatening to control what media we get access to, and at our own expense. Focusing purely on what makes money at the time, as opposed to ensuring that art and culture are preserved as time goes on so we have access to an ever growing and expanding library.
i basically refuse to play any game with a season pass any more.
Here is a question, if Ubisoft think that owning games is a thing of the past and that we should embrace subscription services, then why are they charging more than $70 for an online game that it can be worthless if the servers goes down? 🤔
You know what? Yeah lol we should start asking them for subscription level prices XD
You can always get the ultimate edition through ubisoft+ or whatever lol
Are you stupid? Because they want you to subscribe to Ubisoft+
profit. they dont care if the servers go down, the only thing they care about is that they got your money. also here in canada that standard edition is 90 dollars, with tax it comes to $101.69 sooo.... yeah once they get your money they dont care. these game companies are trying to force you into the online service thing simply because they can control it and you. they dont want you to be able to use that physical copy you paid for so if they tie it to the online aspect and once the servers go down you wont be able to play it anymore and no matter how much you complain theyll laugh at you because they got your money. they dont care about anything else.
@@zarrurer12 every you said makes a lot of sense. I just feel like Ubisoft is not being consumer friendly. They want to be charging a lot of money on games with the online service aspect and games that don’t even look that great or longevity since they don’t want to keep it up to date for however long. Even if we own the physical media, once they shut down the servers there goes $130 and it just becomes paperweight. Their subscription isn’t that great either.
