It looks like console players will benefit from some graphical upgrades and performance enhancements, but for PC players especially, the next-gen update seems to break more than it fixes.

Those games aren’t comparable to Bethesda typa games.
@@youngceez7144 Comparable in what way? That they're not AAA? Cuz if that's the case, you can look at how GoW Ragnarok had a free dlc update to add a new game mode

Because the update is to sell their paid mods. They don't give a damn about free mods whatsoever. The 'Next Gen' part of the update is to try to appease gamers and this is obvious by the amount of time they clearly haven't put in to it , but creation club sales is the goal.

@@TheInnocentRabbitofCaerbannog I would NOT let Bethesda touch New Vegas. Obsidian did a great job making that game with what they had to work with. They were given an impossible task to make a Fallout game under Bethesda's stupid restrictions and in a game engine that is busted. Still, Bethesda screwed Obsidian over after the release of New Vegas. Yet, Obsidian at least made a game. Where your choices mattered. Made you feel like you made a difference. I do not think anyone remembers the original ending of Fallout 3. You die. No, seriously. You die. Game Over. The End. The Story was over. No, end game. It was not until the Brotherhood of Steel DLC that retconned that ending. That WAS the ending. If you wanted the "Good" Ending. You end up dying.
So yeah. Bethesda cannot write a story to save their lives, some times. They are great at world building, some times. But, a story? Not so much. Even ones that make you feel like your choices mattered. Fallout 4 made the biggest mistake. Pretty much railroading you into a story of being a parent looking for their child. Or in Fallout 3, had to find your father. Kind of a mistake of story telling and railroading you into doing. Even if you do other side quests. Those quests really do not matter much. New Vegas had you be somebody that actually died and somehow lived. Then, going through to get revenge and finish a job. Yet, that is not the main plot of the game. The main plot is whoever control a freaking dam and New Vegas. You only get involved if you choose to. Behind that, you get your revenge, deliver the package, and could go on with doing other things. Which makes sense.
Bethesda ever touching that. They will screw it up. And highly doubtful Obsidian would ever work with Bethesda to even do a remaster of New Vegas.

They meant to release the update on April 1st but needed some more time for their April's Fools.
Despite confirming this update existed for over a year, they legitimately must have started working on this about a month ago.
More likely is they stopped working on it last year and just held off releasing it until the show came out to maximize cross promotion.
More like they finished up on the update, got confirmation when the TV show is supposed to air and hold the update to this date to push it out alongside the show.
They probably spent 2 days on the update, then shelved it for over a year without ever playtesting it so they could drop it at the same time as the show.
Honestly as a console player, I was hoping they’d just increase the mod file size, the amount of room you have is pitiful.
That's all I really want with this and Skyrim. I trust modders for actual fixes.

It's probably not going to happen in a global scale kind of thing but probably it can happen with a company by company case, like CA which is trying to fix the way they've been handling Warhammer 3 after messing up most of the times during the lifespan of the game, probably because the players got fed up and started voting with their wallet.
@@arsenii_yavorskyi You're not understanding how precarious a position these studios have put themselves in. They've become bloated with bureaucracy and nepotism, and in-fighting. Their talent pool is as shallow as a kiddie pool. Most of their major decisions run through the Karens in the HR department. Their staff is full of people who care more about promoting fringe ideologies and creepy fetishes than about making games.
In an environment like that, they've backed themselves into a corner where internal overhead costs are constantly rising, but their audience engagement and customer goodwill is constantly shrinking.
While I would personally enjoy driving some of these studios out of business, it's not actually necessary. If we just deprive them of enough revenue that they HAVE to downsize the Nepo-hires and start seeking actual, talented developers who will at least PRETEND they don't hold the gaming community in open contempt, that alone would be a massive win for us as customers.
The hard truth is, execs, ceos and investors don't need to learn shit from this industry, they will always walk away rich no matter how many projects bomb, more and more studios will shut down, devs losing jobs and thecycle will repeat its self.@@TheCrimsonRevengerUnless, AA and Indies become the standard, since publishers aren't usually needed for those projects.
@@karls4937 I mean, that's just life. An endless series of repeating cycles. You don't get to break the cycle. But you absolutely can influence it's speed. You can impact how quickly...or slowly...we traverse through the ugly stages of the cycle, and how long we linger in the good stages. So let's haul ass through this ugly stage we're in right now, and then take a nice leisurely scenic route through the good stage to follow. Deal? Deal.
This is why they should've taken the time to redo the entire thing as a new release titled Fallout 4: Special Edition. All they did was update our modlists. :(
I'm kinda baffled they didn't. how many times have they rereleased Skyrim and millions of people buy the same game again?
Probably cause Todd doesn’t love fallout like he does Skyrim it’s his baby after all
I found some of the new bugs that came out to be hilarious. Over by the Asylum where mercenaries and guards come out, they got bugged and spawn now stuck to the ground. Makes quite the easy farming for combat armor and .45 ammo!
Bethesda reminding us they're miles behind the competition....
Corrupted my saves. all that progress, gone. I shouldn't be surprised though.
This is the reason I haven't opened the game up since the update dropped. I have a 200+ hour file I'd rather not lose.
Just copy your file save and send it somewhere for safe keep before trying something with the update
Guess it all depends on how much you care about those previous saves or not
Jesus, were all your mods scripted? My entire game runs like a mtero/ stalker game, all of my mods besides nac x and gun perks overhaul work, still playing as my ranger alt start, I'm not doubting you in genuinely curious what kind of mod load would do that
This is Todd's revenge for us not liking Starfield.
Watches Show
Gets the itch to replay a fallout game
Boots up fallout 4

Well done Bethesda
Literally happened to me, so I've decided it's not worth a replay. I might play New Vegas, tho
@@angela8533I tried playing New Vegas first. The game *refused* to stop crashing when leaving Doc’s.
So I redownloaded 4 to play the new Sim Settlements 2 updates. Definitely going to stop auto-update when I boot up Steam later.
@@mattstanford9673a simple Google search about crashes will fix new Vegas crashing but you were too lazy to even do that. Pathetic.
@@mattstanford9673 I love new vegas but it takes a lot of duct tape to make it run sometimes
@@GRIMHOOD99 Even unmodded it’s a jankfeat. I remember the first time I played it and the radscorpions would just fall through the ground while they chased me. And the geckos were constantly getting stuck in rocks.
Definitely not Obsidian’s best.
It seems strange, but after completing a new quest from the game update, I began to notice that the game periodically freezes for 0.2-0.5 seconds while walking around the Commonwealth. I specifically checked this using old saves. The check confirmed the observation: until the new quest from the update is completed, the gameplay runs smoothly (well, as usual in FO4), but after completing this quest, the game periodically freezes.
I've only encountered enemy corpses being frozen midair so far as a new bugs go. Sometimes I'll come out of a building and the enemies I killed like 10 mins ago will be frozen in the air or standing until I shoot their bodies and they fall. The other bugs are ones I knew of and encountered at launch years ago. Sometimes weapons I favorite won't equip from the d-pad and I have to go into the pip-boy to equip them and then it's fine. The inventory and swapping weapons really is the only issue I get annoyed by as it can still end up with either not changing guns, not bringing up the gun you favorited when you press the d-pad but instead bringing up the gun that used to be in that slot, or you get the gun and it just won't shoot. Had one instance of vats not showing the chances of hitting too. It just showed the green boxes with no numbers but I think I remember that from before too.
Bethesda is a petty company when it comes to fan-created content.
that's an understatement.
because they see it as "their content that they could sell you".
@@disasterincarnate Oh yeah. When they see the numbers of people playing their old games, Bethesda reacts like people are actively stealing from them.
“For how long it took to be made, it does not work as well as it should.”
We, as gamers, have been playing Bethesda games for how long?
This was the least surprising outcome.
To be fair, this update probably works as well as it should for the amount of effort that went into making it. The update was most likely delayed to coincide with the TV show to maximize the cross promotion opportunity. And in the extra year of waiting...probably zero testing was done. Which is absolutely consistent with the quality of releases Bethesda has put out for the last decade.
"gamers" stopped playing Bethesda games long ago man.
This shit is unacceptable and damn you for being okay with it.
@@Mystipaoniz Oh yeah, that's why starfield sold well over 10 million copies. I guess all those weren't "real" gamers though. No one will learn anything. ES6 will come out, be the best selling game in history and be broken as fuck just like every bethesda release.
@@devilmikey00 the system works, what do you want me to tell you?
Oh wow a Bethesda launch being broken? Who could have seen that coming
Classic bethesda, they got the biggest advertisement on fallout franchise and then shot themself on the foot with these god forsaken update on their almost a decade game.
Got back into it 3 days ago.
Didn't hear about the update.
spent a stupid amount of time modding.
I had a great build. finally ironed out the kinks and it auto updates while I am not at my computer.
I am just now figuring out how deep the problem of fixing it and trying to revert back to the previous version.
I'm pretty upset to be honest. its been years and the timing to me is absolutely crazy.
Leave it to Todd Howard to fuck up a renaissance
i saw the update which mirrors the disaster from skyrim and just uninstalled it all.
Same, I didn’t even know about the update till I got on and couldn’t play my saved game correctly smh. I’m to lazy to play again now
Should have set the game to read only so steam can’t update it and just launch through script extender
Thanks to a combined arms effort, both friends and reading online, I'm back in business.
It doesn't change the fact I had to go through all this heartache in the first place but there IS hope if you're willing to really dig into it.
Without asking and having some savvy friends I would have been out of my depth.
If anyone does decide to try and roll it back I truly wish you the best of luck.
Now I launch through the script extender and I have auto updates off on everything that is relevant, I think.
"Fuck your mods. Buy Starfield. Buy Starfield. Buy Starfield. Buy Starfield. Buy Starfield. Buy Starfield. Buy Skyrim. Buy Starfield. Buy Starfield. Buy Starfield." -Todd
Fuck Starfield, another settlement needs your help, I'll mark it on your map.
It's almost as if Bethesda/Microsoft delayed the next gen Fallout 4 update not to polish and improve it, but just to deliberately f**k Fallout London.
I don't understand the sentiment that the Fallout London mod team should have gotten a heads up from the developers about the release of the patch. They are a fanmade unofficial community mod project. It doesn't matter how big or ambitious or anticipated their mod is, they are still just fans like the rest of us. They are not owed any special treatment or insider information from the devs or publishers.
Agreed.
Respect for Fallout's (aka Bethesda's) player community. There's a lot of their player base that has been waiting for Fallout London and Bethesda knows that. Effectively Bethesda has shown that they simply don't really care much about their players.
Starfield has shown that Bethesda alreads failed to communicate in house. Informing external teams about changes is asking a lot
It's makes the hope in Elder Scrolls 6 and Fallout 5 seem very Bleak.
@@RaikenXion For sure. Nothing suggests they've learned anything from the starfield mess and looking at their definition of "next gen" the last 10years of game development in general.
Single indie devs can create more exciting experiences with UE5, even Unity than the huge team at Bethesda with the creation engine.
They can't keep up and it seems that they've stopped caring what other devs or engines do, a long time ago.
They find out when it gets announced to the public.😂
@@florianschmoldt8659I don't see how you think they haven't learned anything considering Starfield rolled back a lot of changes Fallout 4 had that people disliked such as voiced protagonist, less choices, less dialogue in general, etc etc. Like whether you hate the game or not Starfield addresses multiple complaints about their previous game Fallout 4
@@irecordwithaphone1856 I was talking about their technical skills but fair points. Gamers still prefer 9y old Fallout over Starfield. Thanks to their stiff animation system and lifeless NPCs, Bethesda dialogues aren't great in general. I'm not surprised people want less of that. But it would be important to tell a story and care about anything.
I know Bethesda isn't Rockstar but motion capture isn't hard or expensive anymore. Maybe even some more expressive animations in dialogues or different, more interesting camera angles. Small stuff.
I get that there are many people that think "that's a classic Bethesda game" but to me, it feels old and outdated. They are stuck with their formulas and don't see how small improvements would make a huge difference.
At this point I've lost hope in Elder Scrolls 6 being good or at least working.
Oh it will work. . . .5 years after release.
@@fernandosepulveda7297 Are you even sure about that? Starfield feels practically abandoned already.
I predict we will all buy in yet again and the game will feel meh.
why you even had hope at all this far along is telling.
Keep in mind steam guys this update is labeled required and auto updates. Unfortunately, I’m not sure if not updating will block access to Bethesda store mods. So if you want to remove those you might be screwed. IMO mods should always be client side.
I noticed some texture bugs. pre-nuke, they use the rusty damaged vault door
That new 40mm grenade launcher is invisible when I equip it. It's quite hilarious to see my characters hands just floating there.
"That's just a feature."
-Todd Howard probably
"KAMEHAMEHA!"
(shoots grenade from hand)
They finally fixed the Tunnel Snakes add on so it doesn't break the Out Of Time quest. Very happy to see that! Also haven't seen the 0kb save bug yet and that's definitely a plus. Had a couple of minor issues with some mods but nothing big. PS4 and so far so good.
What did you expected coming from none other than Mr. Todd «Sweet little lies» Howard?
Pathetic… my heart and sympathy for those who worked hard for the Fallout London huge fan game. ❤
This is the complete opposite of Cyberpunk's Edgerunners update
That’s not fair. Cyberpunk was pushing everything from graphics to customizable dongers to the very limit. Fallout 4 came out on PS4 looking like a PS3 game
16 times the bugs. Never change Bethesda...
Yea. The moment i heard rhat Bethesda would bring out a next gen update, I damn made sure to prevent the update on my system.
Thanks for the review. I took protective measures and will hold out until later. Not losing the mod set I have for some minor stuff...
Bethesda doing the bare minimum as usual.
bare minimum is not bothering with an update
this is worse
Bare minimum is generous lol. It's as if they did 10 minutes of actual work and then slapped their wieners around the rest of the time.
The bare necessities 😂😂😂
And still fails
Bethesda: They promise nothing, and still manage to consistently underdeliver
I literally started a new game and it bugged out when the vault tech guy visits your house. I opened the door but I couldn’t talk to him. He was just… staring at me.
Menacingly
Reinstalled after 3 years after watching the series, got an entire floating texture floor a foot above the ground. Mind blowing they’ve taken mods that worked and fked it up. Everyone knows FO is the adopted child but damn it’s like they’re trying to kill it off.
@@ryp1562 not only that but they also messed up the giant project of FO London. It was supposed to be released two days prior the update but they held it off. And it did pretty much break many mods sadly.
I would like to add that not only is Fallout London gone ... So is Fallout Miami :(
I was looking forward to both of those for so long
Dang it Bethesda. Fallout Miami looked amazing. :(
I mean...they're not gone? They just have to figure out how to fix the stuff that was broken
They are not gone. They are making the needed changes
They didn't spend over a year on this update, they spent maybe a weekend and then held off until the show came out
That's... probably what happened
Don’t underestimate how unproductive a corporation can be.
Nah bro, they didn't even spend a weekend on this, they made this crap the day before the release date.
The only problem I had was I had to delete The Unofficial Fallout 4 patch update other than that the game is running amazing along with 35 mods now I did have to delete some of the mods or could not find them in the store
I wish they would take a page from Mojang updates where there's a snapshot for the update and then let the community give feedback before full update
are people really surprised? ITS *B E T H E S D A!!* 😂😂
"Modern" Bethesda.
