Hi from Australia! I watch all your vids as they come out :)
Thank you for the free code!
cheap labour is exploiting the entire skilled and unskilled workforce in every country everywherre. The employers dont care abot anything other than cost of labour. cheap or nothing in their eyes
I am just as flabbergasted by this entire situation -- not even full two days since sony had to give up under combined pressure of entire Community, and cancel their BS linking idea, Microsoft just goes out and closes the studio behing Hi-Fi Rush, while the 343 is still in good and not going anywhere, despite their Numerous fumbles with Halo franchise in recent memory
The heads of these studios in Gaming all have the same problem as all cooperate American. All the heads are the ones that need to be cleared out and fired instead of those who have made you all the money and the reason the company even exists. They have idiots in charge, and the real people suffer for their stupidity
Company: makes a bad game
Microsoft: Perish
Company: makes a GOOD game
Microsoft: wow that’s great. Perish
If only they did the same with 343 industries.
But we do lack details on the tango closure, I keep watching videos wondering if people have details on what happened to the studio since Hi-Fi Rush was a banger.
The only thing we know is that the former lead of tango left the company to retire but also came back out of retirement, maybe people left tango afterwards to rejoin their former lead, but we can only speculate.
@@KnowThatIDontKnowYou Everybody left. Okay, not everyone but a large portion of the team that made Hi-Fi Rush. Tons of them left to either join other studios or pursue their own projects. It was only a skeleton crew left. In this specific case Microsoft were not the bad guy.
You can make a good game and still flop financially. Hi-Fi Rush getting shadow dropped along with being on game pass day one didn't help sales.
Company: Makes a church.
Microsoft: _Parish_
@almalone3282 a lot of people keep saying it didn't sell well but by August 2023 it had over 3 million copies sold and that number includes gamepass, in terms of exclusives at the time it was the most successful one Xbox had.
Buying the competition and then destroying them. Classic move.
Actually, it is an EA move.

@@aurorademiseWhy do you even bother to say that? You know full well it’s not gonna do anything.
this is partially due to how the law works in japan... i paraphrase; before giving up on a studio and closing it you have to do everything that's possible in your power to show you made the effort to prevent it from closing
i work in japan as gamedev. i'm actually really suprised. because layoffs, let alone mass layoffs are legally reaaaaaally hard in japan lol. they went above and beyond for THAT move.
Hello, I hope you can answer two questions or refer me to a source on the matter: As part of a Japan-established business, could the Tango Gameworks developers have a legal recourse or some way to denounce the closure of the studio to an authority? Considering their parent company is a foreign entity, would there be special considerations or difficulties if they decide to take legal action?
Sorry in advance if it's hard for you to answer everything, but I'm unsure who or where else I could ask about this.
It's a closure.
This year feels like every major company is trying to outdo each other with who can make the worst, most nonsensical decisions ever.
and indies grow.
They've been playing this game for way longer than just this year.
Sony: demands PSN account for Helldivers 2.
Microsoft: “Sony, hold my beer…”
They really try to outdo each other... maybe Nintendo can sue some players to keep up the pace? Let's see what Ubisoft and EA do next. The race is on. 😠
and then i just wait for Nintendo to do more lawsuit against fan-made game so we can finish the trio-bullshit check list
@@Gwydionysus Nintendo has the thing with gmod right now, but i don't think that's on the level of this stuff
Atleast Sony changed their decision after the Democratic Helldivers united, but nobody can change what Microsoft done.
Plus some guy said Nintendo above me so just saying, Nintendo is currently suing G-Mod to remove 20+ years of content, some of it made by dead kids.
If Nintendo screw something up big next, it's going to be a grand slam of first party fumble.
This tells us one thing.
Gamepass success means NOTHING to Microsoft.
If Gamepass success is meaningless then what exactly IS Microsoft going for? They're obviously looking at ditching console hardware and Gamepass is a direct cannibal for game sales on the platform.
I don't necessarily disagree with your point but some explanation would clear it up a bit, thanks mate
@@saberszit’s likely they have no idea and are just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks. The slow but inevitable collapse of traditional consoles no doubt has them in a panic.
@@sabersz They've shown again and again that the suits have no idea what they're doing. They're making arbitrary targets, and no matter how acclaimed games like Hi-Fi Rush are, if they don't meet however million dollars made, they get shuttered and shelved, never to be seen again.
Exactly game pass a failure is reason why they downsize Xbox department.
It's not a success, developers are getting far less money and player retention from it because everyone is playing their games for "free" now like trials or demos.

They should have released this game on Xbox and PlayStation simultaneously, the hype and word of mouth would have carried this game a lot
I’m glad for the ps5 port but a year later and releasing between ff7 rebirth, helldivers, dragons dogma, rise of ronin and stellar blade didn’t help the game
I think alot of the staff is being folded back in with other Bethesda devs like Arkane Lyon etc to work on IP like Dishonored 3 & Blade.

It feels like whole industry started a race on whose gonna screw up the industry more in shorter amount of time.
EA often not booted everyone, many got fused and consolidated into EA studio *insert city name*
Still terrible company limiting creativity, lot of killed IPs and many lost their job under their command
Everyone is saying AI is a big threat to the game industry. But, it's never the devs or the tools that are the threat. It's always upper management. Corporate executives tend to make huge decisions like this in all business sectors. Layoffs even after having record profits so they can get their bonuses. It's disgusting that some of these bonuses can pay for the salary of many employees for years.
Exactly
Iron Pineapple's comment is too perfect. "You can be one of the best in the industry, but you're still disposable to the suits up top."
Reminder to support indie devs so they don't need to go through this BS.
Doing my best. Find a few cool games on steam I love. Also don't forget old game mods.

Indie and retro are basically all I ever play anymore.
I actively seek out indi games cause they seem to be most consistent in having great soundtracks.
@@pizzatparker hades 2, just sayin......
Imagine you're Tango, you only made less than 10 games and your most recent game is one of the most successful titles in your resume, then you are still instructed to shut down regardless.
There's no room for good people in the game industry anymore, Sony even fired the Destiny 2 composer who was the ONLY one doing a great job on that game.
@@mightylink65Nah, I know people who work at Bungie. They are definitely doing great work, but as usual are hamstrung by terrible corporate decisions.
@@mightylink65sounds like the position is just cursed! It's weird that it happened a second time
All the executives see now is that none of their past or projected future games will make COD levels of growth and money
Typical corporate bullshit.
Imagine making one of the best selling products of the year, and still get your head on the chopping block.
How can people have any job security in this industry, when shit like this happens left and right, while the executives reap the rewards.
This is why I very rarely invest money on AAA games anymore, because it has been shown again and again that none of that money goes to the people actually making these games.
economy is basicly making it impossible for that stuff now currently
It's very hard to invest in any game or game studio these days without doing a lot of due diligence. Yes, the ones under large corpos are getting majorly shafted, but there are also indie devs getting the same treatment. Anyone remember ZA/UM? Yeah, the industry is just fucked at this point. There's just no way of telling who gets axed and when, and that's the sad part.
This is what meetings at Microsoft look like:
Satya Nadella: "Rahhhaguuaaa rahh" (drools abundantly)
Phil Spencer: "Geuhhh raaaaahh" (drops eyeball)
Matt Booty: "Gurgguggggarr" (falls on the keyboard and fires half of Xbox staff)
They pull themselves together to yell “AI” out the window.
Probably that's what happens behind the closed doors
😂😂
I feel like the irony of a game developer making a game about overthrowing a megacorporation that lost sight of its original goal for the sake of greed and then getting shut down by their publisher just over a year later for reasons that we can only assume to be greed shouldn't be lost.
I wont even compare the executives at Microsoft with Roquefort, not because Roquefort would not do something like that to save profits, but because i actually like the character
Reality has become satire
Microsoft (probably): "We can't allow you to keep operating. You see, if you make good games then people start expecting good games. The Company can't afford to sell good games that can't push their weight with Microtransactions and Day One DLC..."
@@seraslain962 This hits the nail on the head. If it doesn’t have micro transactions to fuel endless growth it’s not gonna cut it for them. This is why I’ve been saying for a long time the Stock Market needs to be removed and outlawed. All it does is PROMOTE THIS BEHAVIOR.
@@maxmikester8185 real

The sad part is Mikami said he agreed to have HiFi rush made to train the studio's newer developers so they could hang on their own after he left, they made a banger of a game and got rewarded with the studio being shut down...
Yeah honestly I love the game and will honestly look forward to buying it when it does get to switch again.. but damn.

That's why people are speculating that Ninja Theory is next to be closed, because Tameem Antoniades left the studio, but he hasn't been replaced. So, once Hellblade 2 is done (and maybe a PS5 port as well), NT will likely be gone.
This is bad for the industry and bad for gamers. Small indie studios are winning right now, laughing as big Corp companies crumble and fall down.
Poor Mikami all he tweeted out in response to this is: He is sad
The problem with almost all corporations is the fact that they are in an infinte growth/acquisition model where their sole focus is increasing YoY returns to make shareholders happy. To make matters worse, these companies' financial projections are becoming more unrealistic every quarter.
"Last year, we made $2.7bn in profits. Unfortunately, that is 0.7% off of our projections, so there will be layoffs. Our goal for this year is $5bn. Let's go team!"
On planet Earth, this system is just unsustainable. Limited resources, limited space, limited energy. We have one planet for a model based on endless growth; which is impossible. Things have to go down eventually. Capitalism, although it is the least worst system, still has annoying ass flaws like that one. if we had endless planets that we were able to colonize, this wouldn't be a problem, but with just planet Earth, we're gonna hit limits (we already are).
I audibly screamed "WHAT?!" when I read that they closed down Tango. What the actual fuck...
3 Trillion dollar company goes on buying spree, then fires thousands of the staff they just bought.
It means they just wanted the IP's and have no intention of continuing those franchises, at least not as games... the Fallout show was hugely successful, we're just going to get Dishonored on Amazon Prime in the future.
Such a scummy way to get rid of the competition; buy them up and shut them down and who's left?? 🤔
RIch enough to afford ridiculous multi billion purchases of existing companies, but not "rich" enough to pay the worker that were making the games they just paid a premium for....
Big thanks to the US government who considers our anti-monopoly laws selectively enforceable... 🙄 The FTC was right to be concerned about these acquisitions. I hope Micro$oft ends up back in court for this.
@@tealishpotato If I recall correctly, this was one of the points Sony was trying to make when fighting against the Acti/Blizz acquisition. Microsoft said "oh no we won't buy a company, then layoff/fire its employees"
Microsoft: Proceeds to continuously do exactly what Sony and the FTC were concerned about.
As a senior 3D artist in that industry, here's what I find the most shocking about this:
Microsoft is clearly saying to all the studios they own "even if you do great work, commercially successful work, you're not necessarily safe"
That's when people stop pouring their heart and soul in what they do, and/or jump ship.
Just Microsoft once again lowering the bar. That's what they do.
Your pfp encapsulates this perfectly
@@ContinuumSpanner lmao yep I guess it really does
For real I've been trying to imagine that too.. Microsoft is continuing to support studios who have produced Zero games. Such as Perfect dark, fable, etc. Etc. Yet the studios who not only put out some of their only decent games but have a great array of IP's to utilize as potential.. Yet NONE of that matters
Because they rely so much on shareholders and whatnot, and shareholders probably couldn't care less about these games. They invest in the company and expect to see profit from it immediately. As such, it doesn't matter if your game is successful and sells well in proportion to it's development and budget. If it's not making that Call of Duty money, they don't see the worth in keeping it around. To them, games are nothing but a product, and so will cut whatever losses they deem necessary.
20 or so years ago, these companies saw the true value of games, but as they've grown more corporate, so to has their treatment of the games they make.
This can't continue. People're gonna look at what happens to those in the gaming industry and go yeah nah I'mma flip burgers instead. Or something. Then the gaming industry (indie devs aside methinks) will die.

Cases like this just make another video game crash like in 1983 more and more likely to happen again. The prospects for Ghostwire 2, The Evil Within 3, and Hi-fi 2 is forever gone with Tango Gameworks closed. It's never going to be the same without the original studio.
It will be a lot bigger than the 83 crash when it does happen

@@doomtriggerHe didn't get fired, he retired.
The crash of 83 was a situation that was due to factors that aren’t at all similar to what’s going on now. 83 was caused by a flood of garbage games made cheaply due to Activision winning a lawsuit against Atari that caused them to lose protection over cartridge manufacturing. The market got scared aware due to the product quality which resulted in Atari crumbling. That’s not at all what is happening in todays market.
The Arkane Austin studio closure is so disgusting. First Microsoft forces them to work on a game they don't wanna work anymore because they themselves saw no audience for it. Then the game bombs because they saw from a mile away that it would bomb, and Microsoft closes them a year later.

Not to mention Bungie gave them Halo in the absolute best state, healthy player base, big fandom, best blueprint for the game etc in 2010, all they had to do was continue it by just updating the graphics. By 2015 the franchise was holding for its dear life and is basically dead now. Anything Halo related now is not anything to be hyped for, which is an absolute tragedy, Halo used to be a word uttered to describe how great the video game industry was, now it's uttered as an example of incompetence of a flagship product. Halo Infinite was just okay unlike Halo 5 which was genuinely bad, but if your comeback game in the series is just "okay" then you've got a big problem, not to mention the graphics were panned before launch and caused a delay. I don't even play Infinite, I booted it up once and got bored because there was no forge mode, they created some stupid battlepass that was so hard to finish and the gameplay felt dated. I was one of the biggest Halo fans in 2010, I used to boot up Reach at least 3 times a week to play for hours on end. Now I miss those days. Microsoft kills everything they touch.
@@GetERekted The thing is Microsoft had nothing to do with the inception of Redfall as a game, but they should've pivoted it to a singleplayer title or just swallowed the loss of it and allowed Arkane Austin to move on with new projects. I agree that Arkane Austin deserves Redfall's disaster because they and Zenimax greenlit that trash title as a games as a service, it never should've been made or gone passed concept stage, but Arkane Austin have made some good games in the past like Prey and Dishonored, they even helped on Call of Duty World at War. They still had some potential, if their next project failed, then fair enough, pull the plug then, it's somewhat justified. But it was too early imo to get rid of them. It starting to look like Xbox just doesn't care about anything Zenimax does beyond DOOM, FallOut and Elder Scrolls and sure those are the big titles, but Dishonored and Prey are cult favorite games, they deserve attention too.
Is arkane studios developing Blade game right now? And also internal studios that similar to arkane studios at other publishers might include a clause in if their parent owners get brought out by other cooperation where they have option to buy themselves out like if EA gets sold to Disney studios like Respawn or Dice can be under Disney umbrella but they clause that prevents Disney shutting them down by allowing Respawn buy themselves out from Disney

It’s like at some point during the year, publishers like Sony and Microsoft compete to see who’s the most soulless and greedy
Unfortunately, people seem to be like, "oh it's just business", when the problem with buying your competitors and then shutting them down or absorbing them leads to a few very negative and noticeable side effects, and the best example is most likely pro wrestling. WWE is an amalgamation of all the past smaller pro wrestling circuits that used to exist in the US, and after WCW was no longer there, the product had a steady decline in quality, as with no competition, there is no motivation to put out better content, and therefore people will either consume your product, or have nothing. We're currently in a second crash. This is what happened in the early '80s. Companies weren't selling as many games as they thought they would. E.T. was a part of that because Atari infamously produced way too many copies of the game. Sales declined. Profits dropped. Layoffs happened. Closures happened. That's what the crash was back then. It wasn't a total evisceration of the industry like people incorrectly believe. It was a major shake-up of the industry, a contraction, and that's what we're starting to see now. And because of inflation and the recession, we'll see more of this happen. It'll get worse before it gets better.
I feel bad for the studio that made Hifi Rush. Redfall, nope not at all. Whatever the circumstances were, they made the terrible game in protest of it being a games as a service. They could have made a decent game, thus proving themselves & maybe they would have survived to work a better game.
